IR Blaster remote app.... - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi!
Another question, sorry guys
my tablet arrived from John Lewis today and very happy, loving it
Can't get the IR Blaster to work, i put in my postcode (in the WATCHON app) and it says invalid postcode, with or without spaces.
Is the IR Blaster a USA app only?

WatchOn may be US only. Try Peel Smart Remote app, tablet came with it.

It's not a USA app only. Works fine for me here in Australia.

Works fine for me im Brazil too.

sounds like its a None UK app, i have raised a support ticket with Samsung, so will await explanation
the Peel app i had to download, my TV won't work (is it because its not a Smart tv? Panasonic Plasma thats 5 year old) but I chose SKy+ (I have sky hd box) and that seems to be changing the channels which is a step in the right direction!! TV Model TH50PZ80B) http%3A%2F%2Fmypdfmanuals.com%2Fuser-manual%2CPANASONIC%2CTH-50PZ80B%2C540575.pdf&ei=4tqWUvn-JJCqhAeikoHACw&usg=AFQjCNF6Vge8i_zxL829u6IC9i9ufE7T7Q&sig2=mGXF3pWhoFXrx52AGJWPlA&bvm=bv.57155469,d.ZG4

Works fine in France

Do a fake post code that has the same layout as yours.
Ie: if mine was po6 2tr I wouod say po8 3ed
So we know the amount of digits and spacing.

Mine did the same thing. I tried just putting in first half of post code and it worked

I'm using the Touchsquid Samsung IR Remote app. A little pricey, but it is truly awesome.

In my opinion Touchsquid is the most horrible looking piece of software I've ever used. Really.
Smart IR Remote every time...the database of IR devices is so much better than TS. It even supports my random IR lightswitch Get it, get it now!

Missing Apps/Screens from Samsungs web Advertisement

Guys,
Had a search but couldn't find anything, so unsure if this has already been discussed.
If so I apologies in advance to the original poster.
The Question:
On the Samsung Galaxy S web site advertisement it shows a 'Morning' or 'Home' screen with several icons and a large clock.
Also there is then the 'Driving' screen which again shows several icons relating to applications you will want to see and use whilst getting to work.
Finally at the end of the evening we have a 'TV Remote Control' to take over the television.
Have I missed something but I can't find any of these available?
Thanks in advance for any news.
Are these not apps that will be available from the Samsung Store / Market when it launches?

Well if that is the case then why are we not seeing them?
The Galaxy S has now been out since the 4th June and you would have thought if they showed these Apps runnning at their shows we would now be seeing them live on our very own screens.
Beards sorry to say that Samsung is like that... when i bought my Samsung Omnia II, there were apps that were inlcuded with the phone etc when they were presenting it.. then when i got the unit it didnt have them.. also i wouldnt rely too much on the Samsung App store, its useless.. The Windows Mobile Version was really crap too...
Thanks...
Although I am loving the phone I can't say the same for Samsung.
They even got the battery type wrong in the end.... or simply changed it from being a Li-Pol to a Li-Ion ~ which I've posted on in another topic).
Annoyed by this as well, was sold on the phone partly on things like the remote control app as I have a Samsung TV and the remote for it is absolutely terrible.
Will probably be worth emailing them en-masse to see if they have just delayed the app or hoped nobody would notice.

I know and feel the same as you.
I too have one of the latest Samsung Series 8 TV's and was looking forward to having that remote (my Granddaughter manages often to sneakily get the TV Remote. The TV comes with two remotes ~ a large normal remote and a small ball like-shaped remote which my Wife has by her chair)
I will look for an appropriate email address when I get home from work, we should probably get as many people as we can with the SGS to email them and see what their reply is. Could probably throw in some "false advertising" talk and see if it calls their hand.

That will be geat..... Rather than all of us looking and finding different email addresses it will make sense to have one common address to hit.
I'm all for sending off messages to those that do not deliver as promised.
Let's be honest, if a certain fruit flavoured company did this, they would be looking at a swift invite to court.
are they not part of touch wiz and switched on when you use the home or car docks? Not sure about the tv remote - but i heard that only worked with 2010 samsung tv's anyway (via dlna?)
i believe there are some developer tools that let you fake various dock schemes on the android marketplace if oyu want to check.
Well for those of us in the UK this seems the best bet:

Thank you for this.
I was just about to start sending off a message when I decided to first go to the Samsung-Mobile UK web site and get the names of the morning alarm and car screens which showed the application icons.
Imagine my surprise when I find the movie they used to play that used to show these screens (including the TV Remote) have all disappeared.
Has anyone else noticed these items seemed to be have dropped from the Samsung sites?
Here's the UK one which used to show them.
EDITED:
Okay, I dropped them off an email.
If anyone wishes to use/copy the one I sent please feel free to do so.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you today in order that I may obtain information as to the whereabouts of various screens and applications that are missing from the previously shown video promotion for the Samung i9000 Galaxy S.
When the Samsung i9000 Galaxy S was first introduced it showed on various Samsung web sites a video promotion of the phone being run outlining various screen uses it would carry out throughout the course of the day.
The first of these screen uses were a 'Morning Screen' which showed the TIME in Landscape mode and had various morning applications.
Next we had the 'In Car Screen' where the i9000's screen had now changed with this time showing (again in Landscape mode) various applications laid out in a pattern that were associated with work/business.
Finally towards the end of the evening we had an 'Entertainment Screen', where one could sit back in front of their Samsung TV and use the i9000 as a TV Remote.
My question to you is ~ What has happened to these screens.
1. Why do we not see these screens and applications on our i9000 Galaxy S as previously advertised?
2. Why have these screens been dropped from the Samsung web site video promotion?
I purchased my Samsung i9000 Galaxy S in part based on the web video promotion and what was shown at the various Live Shows.
Now I find these screens and applications no longer advertised nor available on the i9000.
I look forward to your kind response.
Yours sincerely
Nicely put, I will use the same one, was a little tipsy last night so had to stop myself sending a message in case I said anything silly.
the remote is part of the allshare app - controlls your 2010 sammy tv via dlna. the other screens are dock specific - car and home dock respectively so i assume part of touchwiz.
a bit of googling is all you need to find this out.

Then why has Samsung removed all reference to this from the web site I gave earlier?
Also, ref the DLNA screen...... I don't get any remote showing for my Samsung Series 8 TV.
Well guys, I received a reply from Samsung.... and not one that I was wanting either.
Basically the department have washed their hands of the question and told me to go to 'Tech Supp'.
I've now fired another question to them asking why on earth this is a technical issue?
Below is the reply I received from Samsung:-

As you and anyone else reading this will understand, the only way we are going to get answers is to voice our concerns and questions.
The more that ask the stronger our feelings should be felt.
The answer is probably simple and clear but to make it that way we have to ask Samsung to 'spell it out'.

Wired Magazine App

Can someone with the Wired Magazine app installed in his Kindle, extract the apk and post it?
Or someone can download it form the Amazon Android Market? I tried it, but it says that only can be run at Kindle.
I want to tried it on another tablet.
Regards
I would love to be able to use Wired on my thunderbolt.

I just tried to install this on my thunderbolt. It told me I didn't own the app and sent me to the amazon app store. Then it said I couldn't "buy" the app (its free) in this device.
Can someone get us around this?

Ahh never mind. You pay for a subscription after you download it.
its a free app. i don't see how allowing me to use it on another android device would be pirating. I have a subscription to the WIRED print magazine. I'm not asking for illegal access to the magazine content. I just want to be able to use their app on my phone.

First, go to the Amazon app store online. Search for the Wired magazine app there and buy it there. It will warn you that none of your available devices support the app. Go ahead and buy it anyway (since it is free). You can now launch the app. You'll need a Wired Magazine account and Adobe air for it to work.
I tried. I enter my subscription number, and ask me to sign in. Unfortunatelly, there is no sign in screen, button.
I believe you have to register by clicking on the banner saying "Already a subscriber" after that you should then be able to log on using the email address you register with by clicking the tiny Sign In link above the banner on the top left corner.
I have been using this app on the iPad for months and I can access all the issues I own in paper and have the ability to buy past issues beyond my paper subscription. On the fire app I can only access issue 19.11 and after 19.12 arrived in the mail I could download it on the ipad but not on the fire. Anyone else with this experience?
I already did that (registered), but I never get the Sign In link. I have the iPad subscription too. And same as you, I can get (on the ipad), the December one.

Just a FYI, contacted Wired support and they are only making content for November issues forward.
I subscribe to Wired Magazine. The posted .apk works great on my Evo View. After signing up and logging in, I had to log out and log back in order to get the issues to show as "purchased."
Since this seems to be the charity thread.... any chance someone could post the Entertainment Weekly app? It's another that still requires a separate subscription but the app is only available to kindle fire in the amazon store. Already tried the route of getting it through the web app store but it was no dice.

You sign in at the top left of the wired app main page. It's up at the very top.
Also this thread has nothing to do with Android Development, please use some consideration when creating threads. There is a section under Amazon Kindle Fire called Themes and Apps, this thread should have went there instead of cluttering up the Android Development. Granted it's not a major foul but please just use some common sense people.
Muchas gracias! I wasn't able to download this directly from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" for some reason. I downloaded it to my hackintosh and copied it to the SD card, and installed it from there, once the mandatory Adobe Air installed first. It complains every time I open it or start a download of an issue, but I just hit "quit" each time. Log in worked, and I can now download and read Wired on my Tab! Yahoo...! The January and February 2012 issues are 126 and 178 MB each, but the December and November '11 issues are 371 MB and 261 MB respectively! And I'm sure that's their compressed size. Those must be the only Android-compatible issues because that's all that shows up in the library. On my GF's iPad I see everything available since my subscription started.
Correction: the warning dialog only comes up when I start the app and try to log in. Once I've cancelled the dialog viewing the issues is perfect.

On my Motorola Xoom running Virtuous Inquisition v3 (ICS) I can register, and I see the little red arrow pointing up, with the phrase "Already have access? Sign in above" but there is nothing above the arrow. The word "Wired" appears in the center of the bar at the top, and there's a gear-shaped menu icon in the upper-right, but the only item on the menu is "Restore all purchases" which does nothing but bring up the incorrect "No internet connection" message.
So close, yet so far away. You'd think Conde Nast could afford to hire decent Android Devs.

So I was looking on AT&T's webpage for our phone, and it says that the SGS3 has PPT....
Doesn't that need like a dedicated button for PPT? and how do we access PPT?

Nice wonder if that's an att bloat app.

PTT capable through an App. The button is just there for easy access.
SouthernLinc has something similar that crosses to all platforms/carriers being cooked at the moment.
Sent from my Marble White SAMSUNG SGH-I747 using xda-developers app
What is the app though? Must be that is S3 exclusive or something, its outlind as one of the best features at the very top of the details page, the HTC One X says nothing about PTT and the same for the Note II.
I wanna try walkie talkie now....
Voxer is on the ATT site as well as the play store. For the record, I was able to download it on my wifes GS2 as well. Works fine.
My Buddy has this at work on his sgs 2... Same idea as Motorolas Mike system... The PTT service is available through Bell as well for 15.99 per month I think... http://mobilebusiness.bell.ca/solutions/push-to-talk/
See even the S3 is listed on bell as PTT... hmmm i shall investigate after work.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Searched Google Market for PTT, and there's a specific AT&T app, "AT&T Enhanced PTT"
www.att.com/eptt
Of course it is a $5/month add on for the service. However it says the data used for it doesn't count toward your quota. The app has only 17 reviews but gets good reviews. The negative reviews are not performance based as in speed or ease of use, but that it didn't work on their phone. Also it says it is compatible with existing radio systems, which is probably why it comes up as a business service at AT&T.
There's no ios version, and only 6 listed compatible devices. I think a free version like Voxer would work better for most people.
Edit: Also noticed there is also PC version of the software where you can contact and receive from the computer. Can't tell if that one costs anything or is part of the service. Basically you pay for the service on the phone(s) and you can use the desktop client or the desktop client has to be added on. Seems to be included.

I guess that's for the best...
Two ways to do this...root and no root...
I was looking for the same to provide support to clients. There are two ways I've found to do this...
1) My Mobiler:
Not sure if ypu guys remember this from the good old WinMo days, but My Mobiler is now available for Android users for some time. Must be rooted and config is a little tricky on Samsung phones (easy on HTC and Moto), but once you get it working it's great for local control via USB or WiFi, or remote control via VPN or some other virtual network. Google it. Unfortunately you have to be rooted so not for everyone.
2) Teamviewer:
For Samsung devices only...no root required, free! One click install! Works great on GN2, GS3, and GN10.1 (those are the only three I tested, may work with others). Just go to the Play Store and search for Teamviewer Quicksupport. With free Teamviewer app on desktop or another Android device, any user with a compatible device can send you an invitation to allow you remote control desktop sharing of their device. According to Teamviewer, this only works on stock rom. I'm running stock MA7 rooted on my GN2 and it works great. Easy reliable connection, setup couldn't be simpler, and Android to Android remote control is great. And since no root is required, if you happen to buy a Samsung smartphone or tablet for your mom or dad, it's a great way to help them out when they call you for help!

[APP]Smart IR Remote for HTC One 1.3.2

Smart IR Remote for HTC One 1.3.2
You can now use your phone as an Infrared Remote (IR Remote)
Why should you need to use more than one remote for all the devices you own ?
With Smart InfraRed Remote for your HTC One, you can add, create and customize any number of remotes, combining controls from any of your existing remotes. Imagine a single remote on which the CHANNEL UP button controls your Set Top Box from your TV provider, the VOLUME keys control your home theater system and the arrow keys control your TV's menu.
On top of all that, since you're holding a phone, why not use some of it's unique features?
AUTOMATIC MUTE WHEN YOU GET CALLED
Don't you hate it when you receive a call but can't hear the other person because the TV is too loud? Now, Smart Remote can automatically mute your current device when someone calls you.
FLOATING REMOTE (CHATHEAD)
Why should you need to switch apps just to send a command ? Activate Floating Remote in settings, and have a chathead-style remote available just one touch away!
BACKUP / RESTORE
Do you switch ROMs often ? Or maybe reinstall apps daily? The backup/restore feature will help you save your remotes, so you can get them back when you install again, without going through the setup process again!
MACROS
With our new advanced macro system, you can execute a series of commands one after the other (like turning on TV, then switching to HDMI 1), add customizable delays between commands, and reorder the commands as you wish.
AUTOMATED TASKS
Extra flexibility in customizing tasks, like sending any command you choose (like MUTE or POWER OFF) at a time of your choosing, or when your phone rings. Feel free to send us other actions upon which you would want to send IR commands!
With infrared - IR Blaster - already included in your phone, why shouldn't you make the most of it? Smart Remote can control your TV, Set Top Box, Lights, Projectors, etc.. Virtually anything that has an Infrared Receiver can be controlled by Smart Remote with the correct remote codes. And we're working 24/7 on adding more! Actually, we're working on adding DSLR camera support right now!

While that may be true, I have heard that a different developer has filed a complaint with Google because this app would have stolen their database with IR codes. Too bad since this app is way easier to use than the app from the company who complained about it. Not even mentioning the candy - this one looks very nice, much better than that other app which I shall not mention the name of.
By the way, the file posted above is version 1.3.2 while the developer has MOD EDIT: Link Nuked as well. If it comes back in the Play Store I recommend to support the developer - at which time this link should probably be deleted.

Negative, this thread is not gonna happen. No way, no how. A paid app from Google Play or once was on Google Play should NEVER be posted freely about XDA, unless by the developer himself.
If you are the developer of this app and come across this thread, please contact me or another moderator, thank you.
