Bootloader/Root status - Potential Developer - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question for you guys.
Dev here (from such rootings as the Galaxy Tab 2, and fixing gps on the Wifi Sony Tablet Z).
Considering getting one of these (on sale at new egg for 279 this weekend)
What is the status of the Bootloader? Is is locked? Is LG allowing unlock?
How about root?

we have officially loki'd it but that is about it. We don't have a dev to do the rest. DJRBLISS added it to the list. PLEASE BUY!!!
EDIT* Which if you are not aware allows you to flash recoveries, roms and anything your heart desires. It bypasses the locked bootloader and gives your the same result of a unlocked bootloader.(so far all LG devices are loki compatible, been flashing for months on my G2 with that method) Just need to make a recovery compatible for our device. TWRP has a guide but we don't have a dev to do the work.
P.S. i just bought mine from new egg!

We've got root, but some people are paranoid about the method. A few of us have been working on getting a recovery working but we're new at it. I feel like I'm getting close.

I think I'm going to, the thing we need is a kernel source, which under the GPL we can ask for (they can ignore it lol)
2 of us at CMB (I know is a new never heard much of team rom, my rom) will have them, so if we can create (we being everyone here) a solid device tree we will be good to go.
I have a N5 and had an N4, I think the G2/N5/N5 trees will be the place to start creating one.

how is batery life in rom ?
Anyone want to test a pure aosp 5.1.0 ROM ?
lollipop (15-03-15):
add rastapop 5.1 build.
add vanilla 5.1.0 build.
Any changelog, any bugs? I believe if you update the OP accordingly, more people will install the ROMs.
How difficult would porting this to the e970 be?
Would I be able to use it by just flashing a geeb kernel?
First if you want something you should ask nicely or do it yourself.
This is international thread.
And for your second question I believe so because the only things you guys stay without are camera and SD card an that is kernel related.
Just do a backup first and then try it out with a geeb kernel.
And is because of that kind of people I stopped posting my projects in the community.

I am developing kernels as well, just check my ops. I always update changelogs etc. It was a friendly suggestion/advice as I wanted to know at least if everything was working or tested. I don"t force anyone...
You should be a bit careful with your words before categorizing people as "this kind of people"
Not nice, especially on XDA.

XDA isn't what it used to be. There's so much people lazy to test and learn on they own, that I barely answer to anything nowadays.
Tho, if you're developing, and want to know, I bet the dev of this thread has a github, which you can check. As a dev, understand it is a must.

Yeah, i think its dead. The last update was 9 days ago LOL.
Except for Bluetooth bug (which plagues all roms that use kevs sources) it will run close to perfect.
As with all roms you are curious to try, do a nandroid backup, test rom and if you dont like restore backup..... And read atleast the last 5+ pages thread before asking such questions.
thanx the developer about his time and for sharing his project

TWRP, etc

How long will it take to get TWRP, custom ROMs, etc?
I don't think anyone knows right now. I know our phones have different partitions than others so it may take some time for it to be stable for us to use. I did see jcase post something on twitter about TWRP on a Pixel.
I saw a post in the dev thread (the only kernel thread right now) that they are working on twrp. The biggest challenge sounds like figuring out the file based encryption used on the pixel device.
I hope they hurry!

No disrespect was intended. My post is a lighthearted comment on life without a rooted device.
My guess is that they're trying to figure out how to best accommodate and exploit the dual partition goodness.

Does anyone know where we can monitor the progress of TWRP?
AFAIK, the Dev isn't huge on posting Twitter/G+ updates but I could be wrong.
I'm not asking for a progress update (I may be lying).
TWRP and Xposed for 7.1 are the next huge things we're waiting on.
And then we all wait for our favorite ROM to get developed.
Dirty Unicorns or Broken OS for me please. :good:
Sounds like Ethan is making progress on TWRP but still has a ways to go.

Interested in porting CM 13

Hello fellow XDA members, I recently purchased a Le Pro 3 and a Le S3 during the flash sale and would like to use Cyanogenmod on my devices. I was wondering if anyone on this forum has ever ported a ROM before as I have not, and only know about the CM porting guide and opensource.le.com for the kernel source. If anyone has any tips or would like to assist me in porting CM13 to the Pro 3 please reply to this thread or PM me. Thanks, and let's hope LeEco releases the source soon!
Love to help but this isn't my department ????. But we should probably see more support in a couple more days once they start arriving here
Just out of curiousity, what exactly had you hoped to achieve with this post? If you're interested in porting, ideally you should at least be able to build a rom (for another pre-existing device)... and then you'll have to hunt down help on the CM forums and then eventually IRC.
Talking about this on XDA is pointless.

The purpose of my post was to see if anyone in the XDA community had experience porting a ROM to a new device, and if they'd be interested in helping me. I have read through a few guides and understanding building a ROM, but am struggling to find what I must "merge." From what I've found so far, I'll need to edit/merge the directories in /system/libs and edit the kernel?

No, it's far more complicated than that. You'll need a copy of the kernel for sure, but you'll also need a device definition. You can use the op3's device as a template, it's probably the best example of an msm8996 device you can have.
You really should be checking into the CM forums. CM people are pretty uppity about not supporting things on XDA. They also don't tend to help. Even as a developer I find it difficult sometimes to get their attention. Your best bet is to go to them if you want their help. Good luck.

Where did you get that information from? They "accidentally" released kernel sources not too long ago and seemingly withdrew it. I got a copy of them and that's what I've been working with. I don't have a device to verify if any of it works.

Not a lot. I've identified the CAF tag the sources are based on and have been working to separate the relevant LeEco mods from the less relevant ones. I've also been attempting to remove the leeco specific things from the drivers that i'm keeping since they're a horrible mess and CM won't be able to make use of them anyway. I've also been finding the appropriate open versions of the drivers and taking the latest ones instead.
The mods from LeEco seem to be a mess, the dmesg output I got from a user on the chinese model (the x720) had segfaults from the modifications just after boot. The logcats are so full of errors I was unable to get the user to send me a full logcat from boot.
Interestingly enough, the chinese system rom looks like it came from a Le Max2. This makes sense since it's LeEco's first msm8996 device, and the Le Pro3 is the second one. I imagine the kernel sources work across a number of the 8996's.
Can you send me the link to where you got the open drivers.

Source release for Huawei Nova/Nova PLUS

Huawei has finally uploaded the opens source code for all of our devices (the 3 hardware versions).
I have reuploaded it to Google Drive for easier download.
Grab them here : https://goo.gl/DiAj78
Wooooowwww, if that's the sources all is getting great now. Xelfmade, make or phone great again ?
So anybody have the original download link?
Great news! I Assume custom roms etc will become available now once people have built them?
You can get the original downlaods from here : http://consumer.huawei.com/en/opens...Type=openSourceSoftware&pageSize=10&curPage=1
Just search Nova. The download speed was a tad slow.
Huh, i was asking them several times over the past days about the sources. Pleasent coincidence.

Oh wow Nice! My variant is the CAN-L01 one.
Probably it will work for any variant, even chinese ones.
But my problem is not the rom itself, is the kernel. I'm wanting to learn to mod and compile kernel just for this, as Nova kernel is awful to tweak.

Any AOSP-based Treble ROMs in the pipeline?

It looks like the MultiROM is the only Treble ROM available at the moment. Does anyone know if there are any AOSP-based Treble ROMs in the pipeline?
Global version has just started to arrive to buyers. Once developers get their hands on it, this forum and development will blow up.

Yep, mine was dispatched from Aliexpress on 27 April & impatiently waiting for it!
If AOSP is not an express requirement, try RR, it supports Treble on partition A, but not B. There are 1-2 bugs. but those too are being ironed out, it is a daily driver material! And don't know if I understood it correctly, but MultiROM is not a ROM... XD
Thanks everyone, I think I'll just keep MIUI until the devs come up with the goods. At least I can hopefully unlock the bootloader and root it while I'm waiting.
