uhm so I need a rooted device to access this, right? there's no other way?
Sorry, my bad.
I didn't mean you need to root the phone. I meant starting from the directory root.
Using OI File Manager, tap on the home icon "A house" then tap system folder then app folder (should be first).
the apk is stored in /data/app/, app data is stored in /data/data/

You need to goto /system/app and replace the dialertabactivity.apk with the one you want. Set permissions to rw-r--r-- and finally, reboot.
i tried and it sad move error...read only file system...i am using astro file manager...

Goto /system/app and delete the old dialertabactivity.apk and contacts.apk. Make sure system is mounted as r/w. If you are not sure which apks are the old ones, move one of the copies to another folder and reboot. If the dialer and contacts are not what you wanted, replace them with the one you moved to another folder.
wen i click on icon it says application is not installed in your phone...i check in folder too and there is only one dialeractivity file..

Are you rooted? Dumb question i know but youd be surprised xD
Which system?
Easy fix: Settings and go down to Root Explorer and Mount File System. Make sure both are checked

Notification folder does exist on the main storage, however it only has 1 file. Actual messages tones are not present
I'm guessing that you're not rooted?
here:
trying to post pic, can;t
Anyway, I have all 15 files in system/media/audio/notifications.

I think so. I was unrooted for about 20 seconds 2 years ago, but AFAIK you can't alter anything in /system without root.
