Hybrid case that has headphone port large enough for most jacks? - Nexus 5 Accessories

I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid. I really like its functionality, EXCEPT for the fact that I cannot use any headphone adapter with it. I use my phone with various plugs and none of them will fit due to the small holes in this case. I refuse to take my case on and off when I want to listen to music.
I need a case that is a dual layer. I want that extra protection. I like the slimness that this Neo Hybrid offers. Is there another case out there that would suit my needs? (i.e., allow me to use my regular cords to play music from different speakers and outlets?) I do not want to add bulk to the phone. So nothing clunky like Otter Box looking.
Thanks for anyone that chimes in.

I can tell you that the headphone port is no bigger on the 2nd gen then on the first gen of the spigen slim armor case. It's still to small. I may end up waiting until january sometime and get a case with a built in extended battery.

I could find a set of headphones if that is all I needed. The thing is, I use my phone to listen to music/ Pandora on 3 different sets of speakers . None of these speaker adapters fit through my case. It's really frustrating.

Maybe you could search for some kind of "adapter", something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Techn...eo-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1385945005&sr=1-14 (for the iphones)
I don't know if that could work on any android, but something like that should already exist, im kinda sure..

I thought about that, too. I was not sure about where to actually extend the holes. Would you do it towards the back of the case? Tell me what you were thinking. I am not too scared to try it.

Yes, I got one of those things from Walmart as a "bandaid" right now. It distorts the sound quality. And quite honestly, I don't want to walk around with an adapter connected to my phone all day, nor try to keep up with it. I just really want a case that works!!

The problem is that in your case you'll be jumping off from the pro (Neo Hybrid/Slim Armor) wagon. Those are by far the best cases for the Nexus 5 and there's not anything close to that.

just got my neo hybrid today
Came in the mail this morning and I love it! I felt like i was pimping, until I found out I can't use my head phone jack. How was this possible? Can't believe they would sell it like this. I love it too much to part with it. There has to be a better way.

I've been using these - known as AirBuds - sold exclusively online - $40 or $60 for 2 pairs, sometimes on sale for 25% off.
The inline buds has smart mic control, fit perfectly in the Spigel Ultra Hybrid case and another rugged bumper case that I'm using for the N5 - the foam tips offer great sound isolation w/o need for noise cancellation.
It works in the iPads as well HTC & Nexus 7 that we owned, and the flat cord is tangle-free.
http://www.air-buds.com/product/ - they are also on Facebook

What kind of monster headphone jacks are you guys using that it won't fit in these cases? I've used all sorts of cases and never once had an issue with port size.

This is incorrect, just basic run-of-the-mill (means common) jacks nothing special. Like ones that work in other cases with no issue. Its just this case is picky about using a specific size jack.

[Q] Good Phone Stand For Galaxy Nexus

Hey all, I work in at a desk job where I am allowed to listen to podcasts and music all day so I use my phone all day every day at my desk. Currently I have the droid incredible that has the charging usb port on the left side and the headphone jack on the top. This allows me to lean my dinc against my monitor stand and put the bottom part on a gel pad so I can easily do things on the phone without it slipping down on my desk and falling flat. The phone rests at about a 110-120 degree angle so relatively vertical. This set up is perfect for me and allows me to have my phone right in front of my keyboard easily visible and accessible.
This leads me to a question with the Galaxy Nexus. This will be my next phone and my only gripe is that the usb port and headphone jack are both on the bottom of the phone which makes it so I cannot simply set my phone on the gel pad and lean it against the monitor stand. My question is, does anyone know of any phone stands that allow the phone to be positioned in such a way but have enough clearance on the bottom to plug in the usb cable and headphone jack? I have looked at a couple on amazon but they all seem to block the bottom still. I know the nexus s has a similar design so I was curious what kind of cradles they created for that phone and I like the vertical charging cradles but none offered audio out. I'm worried that will be the case for this phone as well.
Please offer your suggestions on a good stand to fit my situation. Thanks in advance!
I *think* this might work for your particular circumstance, although I'm not sure if the "flap" of the stand is going to block the headphone jack. If it does, you might still be able to use it sideways.

yep, and im used the sgp stand, and is great, you can find it on stg website.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have an elago stand for my galaxy tab 10.1 and love it. Unfortunately I don't think it will work for the nexus. I think the tab at the bottom would be in the way of the headphone jack .

I've also considered this mount. I am worried though due to the contoured shape of the nexus as well as the textured back. I'm not sure how well it would adhere to this. Something to consider though...Thank you!

Yeah, the official vertical charging dock would be a perfect fit, and it also has audio out.

I'm looking at the same problem here. I've been using a holder with the 2 amp charger for the past two years with my Incredible and absolutely love it. I've never been able to get an extended battery because of how tight it slides in, though. I'll email them and ask but I might have to just swap in the stock battery for rides I know I'll need the juice.
Pros of using this are great, though. Because it's 2 amp charger I would get ~25% in about 20 minutes of driving with my Incredible with fast charging enabled in the kernel. GPS and Bluetooth for Google Maps would slow the charge down but would still give me a full charge from 20% to full in an hour. With Cyanogen I would set my bluetooth to only turn on when connected to a wall charger so I'd slide this in and my buetooth would turn on and connect to my car automatically. Last but not least, your wires are all tucked away! Very clean look.
Does the mount hold the audio cable so it doesn't move and it plugs into the phone?
Any issues with the diztronic TPU case? Would it prevent the microusb or audio plugs from inserting into the phone completely?

If you get the universal dock, the bottom of the phone is completely exposed so you won't have any issues. I got my wife one of these (universal) for her iPod a few years back and the build quality is top notch.
i wish I didn't have to also plug in the cables separately, but maybe I can jerryrig something up.

If you don't want to remove the case, then you need to get the universal dock. I wish them made a version of the active dock that was slightly adjustable, but they don't.
My question is would the charging holder accommodate the extended battery given that it barely adds any thickness to the device. From the looks of the pictures, it looks like the device slides in and is held on to the sides only so it looks like shouldn't be a problem.
I contacted customer service and they said this:
Indeed the added battery won't make it work in 512324. Our adjustable holder listed with the Galaxy Nexus listing might work. Our custom holders are made for the device as it comes out of the box, and indeed any added thickness will make it not work in our custom holders.

Most extended batteries tend to add a lot of bulk (more than cases sometimes). The person who emailed you back may not be aware that the GN's extended battery adds about 1-2 mm of bulk to the bottom half of the phone.
Since the holder is a slide-in type, I can't see this being 'millimeter-tight'. Don't take my word for it but I'm willing to bet that this will fit even with the extended battery on.
I guess we won't know for sure until someone gets the fitted holders and try it though. I'd try, but I've a case so the fitted ones do me no good for sure.

80 bucks for that dock. Ouch. Good concept, but that is a bit rich.
I wish you could buy these at a store. I've already got the whole set for the Nexus One and I've been waiting for the GN mount. I just added to my cart and it's an extra $20 in shipping (to Toronto). So after duty at the border I'm looking easy at $60 just for that one piece of molded plastic. Yeah the mount is great, but that's seriously expensive.
I've used their cases for the last 2 years, nexus s and thunderbolt, and they are great. I still have my Nexus S holder and the picture of the one on their site for the GNex looks like the same style, if so it should work with the extended battery. The slide in case is tight on the sides but leaves a gap behind the phone, see attached pic. The phone slides into that groove and the groove itself is very thin so it doesn't appear it will interfere with the rear battery cover at all.
Proclips is a great solution. I've used it for my car for years. I used them in 3 different cars. Pricey however, it works very well. A+
Got a negative response =(
Unfortunately not. We only have adjustable holder with charging for our Apple line. These have all the same connectors in exact the same location.
For other phones there are too many differences in charging location and thickness of cases.

It was to be expected. They are not going to design a niche product for a phone until it sells consistently in the millions. That said... Creating a Micro USB small swing arm to make it universal should be too hard....
If I feel industrial, I might see what I can make on my own.

It is a bluetooth headset, hence the post in the "Accessories".
As to the OP, I don't have one, so I can't truly comment. I used to have problems with my old BT headset sitting correctly (broke the ear clip two times because it didn't fit well over my huge ears). However Bluetooth earpieces are often very hit or miss for fitting well. Possibly change the little ear-canal mold-coupler piece (the silicone part where the speaker fits into your ear)? If the fit of the ear clip is loose, you also might consider using some Sugru (is a type of modders' silicone putty that cures fairly quickly) to mod it to be a bit thicker in the spots that don't hold well. Would increase the grippiness as well as modify the shape to fit you better.

Dock that works with Draco Bumper

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any docks that work with the draco bumper. I'm only asking because the draco bumper seems to be quite large. I've had to buy 3 different aux cords because they wouldn't fit, and I don't want to waste time trying out different docks.
You could always consider buying a 'universal dock' that clamps to the sides of the phone and then plug the phone in with a normal cable. It's not really a dock per say but it'll definitely do the job of holding your phone upright/horizontal.
If you need a link to one just let me know.

I have been using that for a while. all my devices and my GF's devices have a the metal plate installed (and most, like the s3) have it under the battery door, so you cannot see it) and I have one for the car, and one for work. anywhere i go, with whatever i take, i can mount without looking. Would this cancel NFC and if its a metal plate do you lose any reception? And how sturdy is it? I wouldn't want it falling off because of a few big bumps on the road, and I thought strong magnets aren't good for our phones.

there is no reception loss, as it is is as large the battery only, and the antenna is up top, away from the plate.
big bumps?
i live in central PA, and drive a car lowered on coilover suspension (and turned pretty tight too) and the phone has not budged an inch. perhaps i should do a review.. with the camera running during an autocorss and going over nasty bumps.
magnets mess up harddrives.. not phones.

[CASE REVIEW] Ringke - Fusion (Smoke Black) for Sony Xperia Z3c

Hi fellow XDA roamers,
As promised, I'll be doing a quick review of the Ringke - Fusion (Smoke Black) for Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone.
Here's the Amazon page : Fusion (Smoke Black)
And here's the official website (thanks to @sh4d0wf0x) : Rearth - Ringke Fusion
For some reason, I can't find any official website, not that I need one but sometimes it can help to make sure the product isn't coming from some cheap company.
After my desastrous experience with the CaseMate - Tough Case I was quite impatient to get this case, I even ordered it the morning I got the CaseMate.
I got it for a whopping 13 euros (there was a nice sale on it) instead of 30 and I received it in less than 4 days, another end of the year miracle !
Unboxing
When you receive this case, you know that your cash didn't went to the packaging, a simple translucent plastic bag with a pre-cut opening
The little bag contains the most basic accessories :
The case
A screen protector
A case template for cutting your own back image for the case
Yup, that's it... But who needs extras nowadays ?
At least everything is looking sharp and durable, this time the case fits perfectly the smartphone and doesn't leave any gaps.
It feels secure and looks nice altogether, I must say that this case is quite simple but does its job perfectly.
I haven't dropped my phone since then but I do think it will come unscathed.
A nice addition are little bumps on the back side of the case at each corners, so when the phone is placed on the back, the whole case isn't touching the surface and they're about 1 mm tall so they won't interfere with your hand.
As for the users who are wondering about the little USB hatch, it's still very easy to open (I don't have long nails) it and plug the power cord.
The only things that are going the wrong way are the back of the case that "stick" to the phone, sometimes you can see small succion marks but they can be removed with a simple pressure on the side of the case, and the other thing is that it attracts a lot of fingerprints... like a lot of cases...
The screen protections is like any other, nothing particulars about it, it's cut out for the speakers and led and it's mostly an expected thing from a phone case package.
Let's do a roundup !
The pros
Simple but still looks tough
Bumper protection has a nice rubber feel
Covers all the buttons and offer a little rubber cover for the headphone jack
Small bumps on the back
The cons
Small succion marks from the back of the case, the back of the case tends to suck to the back of the phone
Attracts fingerprints, grease marks & dust
Verdict
All in all, this case is living up to my expectations, looks simple but you can feel that the phone is protected and every little additions are welcome and useful.
This case clearly wipe away the bad taste that CaseMate left in my mouth, can't wait to receive the Orzly tempered glass to check if it all works together
Another review for you guys

Too bad for the dock
As for buying it, I can't give your an objective feedback since it's my first Android phone ever but from my experience and the research I've done before jumping in, it's one of the best phone for this kind of size.
This little monster is compact, fast like it's bigger brother and even better looking than him. As for the Sony bloatwares, there are like 10 apps pre-installed, I'm not using most of them but they're not threatening my experience so it's ok for me.
For the custom ROM scarceness, it's linked with the DRM removal associated with unlocking the bootloader. As developers unlock more and more functionalities, more ROM will become available. If you want more informations about that, feel free to look around the General section of the forums.
I'm not very fond of custom ROM (I'm new to this) so for now I'll stick with the stock one.
Buying this phone is more of a love @ first sight and personal tastes, so it's mainly up to you to decide whether you will throw your cash at the screen or not.
Thanks for the insight.
Yeah it'd be my 6th Android phone, with my first being the very first Android phone (HTC Dream).
I've pretty much always used a custom rom with the exception of using rooted stock on the Nexus 5.
The hardware is what appealed to me as well, but it doesn't seem like the software is going to cut it just yet. S:
Just made friendship with my phone and before I bought it i ordered this case. Hope it will arrive soon so I can hopefully agree with your review.

I have a similar dock and without the insert mine charges fine with this case. I put a thin strip of velcro(the soft side) on the back edge where the phone rest instead of the insert.
I assume you're all using stock 4.4 then?

Are you using the case with a magnetic charging cable? If so, how does the one(s) you use look?

Yup, I'll wait for the warranty to void off before rooting anything.

Sorry I'm still using the USB cable to charge it but I've already made my mind to buy the Magnector X2 magnetic charger when I have the money, maybe later this year.
I bought both the Ringke and the Cruizerlite. I wanted to like the Ringke, but the left side along the charging port and the sd card port is just way to loose. I can't help but think it would even get looser over time and use. My phone wears the Cruizerlite and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I would change about the Cruizerlite is to make a version with a plain back on it.

Thanks for the insight, it's true that the left side is loose, but I'm not really complaining since I only manipulate this side when I need to plug the USB cable.
For now the Ringke is more than enough for me, the Cruzerlite seems a little bit flimsy for me and the way it blocks the USB section is bothering me. Maybe when I'll have a magnetic charger I will try this one.
I probably should have mentioned that I use the magnetic desk charger and I pair my phone with my PC over WiFi for any transfers, therefore I have no need to access the usb port.

Quick poke around on the internet suggests it probably won't. Shttp://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/comments/2n3seu/z3c_ringke_fusion_case_and_dk48_dock/)
I'm considering getting a z3c, but the community looks very sparse, and there's no actual usable roms. Is it even worth buying? :\

Its the best phone I have owned and the ONLY android phone that I haven't rooted. There is no need.
Sony Skin is VERY minimal and I like the Sony Apps including the Walkman and Album. Nova launcher and a Lollipop Theme (Via Sony's own theming engine) has produced a phone I have ZERO complaints with.
Also the battery really is epic, I use stamina mode and have full sync of gmail, exchange, messenger, whatsapp, the lot and easily leave work with 70-75%
My only complaint like others have is the camera, normal lights its fantastic but low light over cameras beat it.
Trust me this is a great phone. And Lollipop is coming next month.
Seriously just buy one.

I have nothing more to add...
Well, I can't be objective on this one but hell, I've already tried 3 or 4 devices under Android and not a single one came closer to it than the Samsung flagships but with added bulkiness.
Just click on that damn "Throw my cash at the screen" button
