Stock AOSP browser for RazrM - Droid RAZR M Themes and Apps

So I figured out how to get the Android browser working on my stock rooted RazrM and thought I'd share, because in my opinion it's still the best browser out there. Simply download the zip and follow the instructions within.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ujf4ccg3l01oyi2/Stock Browser for RazrM.zip
I'm using an Australian xt905 model but it should work for a rooted xt907 too I imagine)

I have issues with this one & Maxthon HD. I love the max for forum browsing but locks up & needs to be killed from recent apps often.
The aosp in a good reader too but the lateral compression is not as good as the max.
What ever they cannot edit or upload I resort to chrome.
See my goodies for the max link.
What build are you on? Is it a 905?
Thanks again.

Yeah I'm on a 905. I'm not sure what you mean by lateral compression though. I love the stock browser mainly because of the awesome bookmark function. It used to be a lot faster than Chrome too, but I think Chrome has improved lately. Also did you try my link? Did it work? This is my first time sharing something like this on here

No for my Odexed Dst 98.18.94. I did previously have a version that worked on ...78. Maybe I can find it.
I ment your sw build ?

I'm on 98.21.7 XT905 If that is any help. It's the stock Australian firmware that I rooted, so I don't know if that means I'm odex or not.

I is my term for how spaces are eliminated when the browser displays a page. Hence the pic of our forum above & a different one in my goodies post.

The play version works ..94! Search aosp browser.

The play version is greatly improved!! Stable too!!
Hope it edits & uploads as well as chrome. Display is as good as Miren (Maxthon).

Edit: does not even edit a post on xda!!!
Its presents messed up chrome. Now both will not post.

Well looks like this is kind of redundant now that the stock browser is in the play store. Oh well

The [Root] browser installer app fails on Razr M rooted stock. The Android Browser app on Play Store does not have incognito mode like the one you posted. Your posted version seems to work fine.

Oh great, thanks for confirming!

[Q] So... Anything new on Smart Updates?

Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I think its an switch that the dev must activate to use it
Yes..u r ri8...notification bar shows correct % of update where as progress bar shows size of kbs downloaded...
See these screen-shots i took..

Yes, I have noticed this also recently. So I guess it was a slow rollout.
I have encountered several updates that use this. I remember Google saying that it is something that will happen automatically and not something that will require any changes on the part of the developers

Official Sony Xperia home screen launcher from Jelly Bean fw (5.1.S.0.0) apk download

From XperiaBlog:
A new Sony Xperia home launcher has leaked. It updates the stock home launcher from version 4.0.3.A.0.9 (at least on our Xperia S) to version 5.1.S.0.0. Changes include a new graphic for the dock at the bottom of the handset, as well as for the app drawer. It also moves the tray options to the left and includes a search bar to the right. We also now get the option to have a maximum of seven home screens, instead of five.
There is also a new way to install widgets, apps, wallpapers and themes. This comes up when you long press an empty space on the home screen. When you click to install a new theme, wallpaper etc you will see the options for these at the bottom of the handset. Another subtle change we noticed is a new screen transition when moving from one home screen to the next.

In addition to that, you can have folder in the app drawer too! This is really useful in my opinion, it is a feature i always wanted.

sensible Less framerate in home screen, but much more silkyness overall.
good improvement, but i'll miss the high framerate feeling.

Is it version 4.3.1? I don't an update available in the Play Market
Not sure that I like it. Only 4.3.1 is in the Play Store, not the 4.5 update yet.
I liked the 4.3.1 because it shows me my categories on the left side. This just looks like the phone version and only has the sender/message preview. Lots of white space in landscape mode.
Fab thanks ! Installed from the dev site ,works well ,not sure on the Microsoftesq letters at the start of each person

With the advent of the new navigation drawer that can be swiped into view from any screen, a specific tablet version need not exist. This is incredibly clever design by Google. Not to mention the innovative "Swipe to refresh" animation.

Just an FYI everyone, if you are running a HALO enabled rom, you must disable HALO before trying to install this apk. HALO prevents the installation of 3rd party (apps not on the play store). You can re-enable it afterward.

Ok - I don't like it, but I can see your point.
However - have you found a way to not waste all the space recovered by not showing labels and actually display messages? On a Stock N7, I went from >14 messages visible, plus my quick labels selection to a display of <10 messages on the screen, and each message has less of a preview.
If the design is to maximize utility, I would expect to be able to do more, not see less and require more interactions to get anything done.

New Google Maps 7.0 with new UI

I take no credit, just passing the word:
See attachment below. THIS apk will only work if you've upgraded your One to 4.2.2. Users on 4.1 will have to wait until its rolled out to their account

Google News doesn't work on my G-Pad. Anyone else?

Hey Guys,
This issue is driving me absolutely crazy. Since I've had my G Pad, I have never successfully gotten news.google.com to work. It loads, then disappears and I am left with a blank page. I refresh, nothing. I did a factory reset, nothing. I just upgraded to the 4.4.2 KitKat leaked build, nothing - same issue. I really don't want to have to install another browser just to get to Google's own news page!
Am I the only one here? This seems so simple, yet it's so frustrating. My LG G2 works fine, my wife's Galaxy S4 works fine, my Nexus 7 works fine, etc. All using Chrome!
-Collin-
I also can't get news.google.com to work with the default web browser or Google Chrome. But it work with UC Browser HD for Tablet. My G Pad is updated to kit Kat

I also have this issue but have you tried holding it in landscape orientation? Try both with auto rotate screen on. If you have the page loaded and go to landscape and then back to portrait it does work but still does not look correct.

It bears mentioning that the Google Newstand app is designed specifically to display Google News on mobile devices. Otherwise there are some excellent 3rd party apps to read Google New, the best of which is NewsHog, which I use. For the record, I use Firefox for Android and can easily see Google News, but NewsHog is a far superior experience IMHO.
