[Q] Is 8GB Moto G (no SD card) enough for Ubuntu Touch? - Ubuntu Touch Development and Hacking

I understand that Ubuntu Touch is not available yet for the Moto G.
My question is, if I were to get the Moto G 8GB, would the 8GB be enough for Ubuntu Touch development/testing?
Also, the Moto G does not take a microSD card. Is that an issue for Ubuntu Touch development/testing?

Yes

Help me please..!!
I am about to get this phone.
Can someone tell me if 8GB is enough for me or not? I am a pro user but not a gamer.
I mean will there be enough space for 2-3 custom ROMs, 1-2 dozen of apps, 6 albums of songs and 1 gigs of videos? Will this low memory affect the phone performance adversely?

Apps 2 SD?

Hello,
I just bought this tablet on Newegg with their 50% off promo code and now I'm trying to decide if I'd want to keep it or gift it. 16gb is a little low for my taste as I am using 20gb for apps on my Nexus 7 at the moment, and I was curious if Apps2SD was on this tablet or not? That's the deciding factor for me, otherwise it looks about darn near perfect for my taste!

We've got root, so you can use apps to achieve this. There was someone who moved data from a game onto their SD card and had success, but nothing too conclusive.
A better tool is Foldermount. You can find this in the Play store. While not automatic it does allow you to move apps to an SD card. Its pretty easy to use and has worked flawlessly on my Galaxy tab (still waiting for my G Pad to show). In any case give it a try. Free version allows setup of 3 folders. Any more requires purchase but its only $1.99 so small investment.

There's also this free tool here on XDA:

I've used that personally and it works really well.
Awesome, thanks for the quick answers! Guess I'll order a 64gb SD card then and keep this bad boy!

Root is must. I am using Folder mount on my G Pad. Working well.
Folder Mount has a lot of limitations (3 folders max, not allowed to bind obb) unless you pay. GL to SD doesnt have these limitations and paying to buy the full version allows you to boot on startup. Ofc directory bind that mustbep mentioned is free, open source and doesnt have any limitations.
I use foldermount on my g2 and my gpad, everything works as expected except the fact that the app doesn't write on the mounted folders did anyone notice that
hey guys, thanks for the recommendations. I just tried out GL to SD and it seems to be good, although the problem is that it can't detect all my games (I don't have any Gameloft games but it still managed to detect around 9 games but left out some others). So i wanna try out Foldermount but would like to have my games moved back to their original place before doing so. Does anyone know how I can do this or if I need to do it manually, which folder to put the apps and their data files? Thanks!

need advice !!

i am planning to buy the SGS4 mini but what about the internal storage ??? does is well be a problem for installing apps ?? and the camera is it good ??

I wouldn't say plenty... camera is okay.
I have exactly the same amount of storage I had before with my S1,
which was released in 2010, so I dont feel "plenty"...
But the phone in fact is really nice, fast, stable and comes almost without annoying bugs.
The camera is really good, too, especially with sunny-day-outside videos.

Since I knew of the storage capacity and bought the phone nevertheless, Im certainly not a hater.
There are people out there, who use their phone differently than you do,
just think of someone - like me - who wants to listen to .flac-files.
At almost one gb per album, even with a 64gb microsd, space isnt in fact plenty.
But still, to most users, storage seems to be sufficient. Just saying, it could be more...

I personaly like this phone a lot. I like it before it was even anounced as I was in a need to change my old phone to a new one but found out that the 5" flagman phones are too big for my liking always liked small phones and even Laptops if that matter after all the phone is something you carry everyday. So when the SGS4 mini was introduced I know that this was my phone I especially like the 8 mps camera which I already know form SII and S3 and love. However I`m not much of a photograph myself so even with this beatuiful camera I can`t take great photos but it`s ok.
What about daily use the Dual-Core CPU is fast enough to handle normal workload like browsing ocational Facebook activities etc. The 1.5 GB of Ram could and make all the difference in multi-tasking and is great that you know that whatever you do you wouldn`t run out of RAM.
I think the most anouing issues with this phone are the internal storage in my case (I-9195) it`s only 5GB which is really small as I play games mostly Fifa 14 and the phone has only 1.4GB internal storrage free after the fifa install. So if you plan to play games the internal storage is not big enough or I suggest you to find a phone with the 16GB internal. The other anouing issue is the battery life the phone hardly manage to give me whole day of intensive usage which isn`t good at all. However in normal usage it surely could last 2 days.
So to put it simple the phone is fast and the size is great however the internal storrage is less then needed and the battery life is poor.

16 vs. 32 GB and ROMs

Is anyone having trouble deciding on 16 vs 32GB configurations? Mainly because of the difference in RAM, with 16/2GB and 32/3GB.
Is there a difference in ROM building based on these versions? Or will all ROMs work the same on both versions? Do any other phones have the same thing, having different amounts of RAM? Not sure if I need the extra GB, but I'll have to see what ROMs support first...
This is all hardware. How in any way would it affect software? It just lets people who need more space for music (like me) to have more internal storage and 1 gb more of RAM which is also really good for people who want speed. For those who just use their phone once in a while, they can buy the 16 GB 2 GB RAM one. It all depends on preference.
32gb
I would recommend 32 gb as all the media files will be bigger due to the resolution. With LG's software there will only be 10~11gb of space left for the user

I agree with you about the 32GB model but not for media files. They can go on external SD card right? 128GB on top of 16 will still do for media files.

Oh right, the g3 will have an sd slot. I'd still go for the 32gb for apps (making the files install on the ext sd is a hassle and the apps won't run when you take the sd out)
Wanting to push this thread because i have the same question... I want to see some roms on the g3. But there is still no answer if there is a difference between 2gb and 3gb in building roms.
No problem here...32gb all the way.
Why would anyone choose 16/2 when you have the option of more storage and ram...makes zero sense.
Always buy the better option!

3gb version all the way!
What is the model number for the 3gb version and where can one buy it.....?
I'm okay with 16 GB of RAM. It wasn't an issue on my Nexus 4 and it isn't an issue on my Nexus 5 and 7. Besides, with an SD card slot, storage isn't an issue.
However, given the option between 2 GB of RAM and 3 GB, I'd go with 3. Always go with more RAM when you have the option.
Problem is that I am in the UK, so only 16gb coming as far as we know. That means I need to compromise on my storage. It will be a hassle to often move my camera pic and videos to SD card, and Whatsapp doesnt allow it.
I dont know which other data intensive apps will also have issues if i try to move to SD card....bit of a minefield.
Any tips would help ?
Shall I just forget about the 16gb version and get a different phone (I do like the look of this one however) ?
Hi all just want to know how much space left available can be used if i take LG G3 16GB ? Thanks

I would guess 10 to 11 gb of space for the apps and data that cannot be moved to the SD card. For me, this will consist of a few apps (metro newspaper eats loads of space !) , and lots of camera pics and videos (high resolution) and loads of whatsapp pics and videos (whatsapp stuff cannot be moved to sd either)
......that is why i am avoiding getting the 16gb version - LG are such s**theads for not selling the 32gb in the UK...makes me so angry !
I sent an email to LG UK support and as expected, they could only tell me that at present the 32gb is not announced for the UK, nor do they know if it will be or when, blah blah blah !!
I already preordered the 32GB version because
- apps getting bigger like GTA
- Offline Navigation like Navigon need alot of space
- Taking pictures and Videos
at least LG sells the 32GB here. HTC won't sell the 32gb M8 and S5 also not available as 32 GB
perfect would be a G3 with 64 GB internal memory

Thanks wyase9 for your info , i really agree with your reason about avoiding geeting the 16gb, but guess i have the same problem like you in my country (indonesia) only get the 16gb version and still don;t know when the 32 Gb will come. My friend in office also said the same like your reason they suggest i wait for the 32gb version ( Hopefully July 2014 will come )

Do they send to US?
i guess so. Amazon.com will ship to Germany, so i guess Amazon.de will ship to USA. The only question would be, if the european model has the needed frequencies for the US and all the carriers
what about ROMs?
Is it that same custom ROM can work on both variants? Only difference i see is an extra gig of RAM. But needed a confirmation if anyone knows

[Q] 128 GB memory card on LG G3?

Hey
I've been thinking of getting the 128 GB sand disk micro SD card. I'm one of those people that have too much media and can never decide on which is more important so I take everything with me. I've had a 64 GB card but I think a 128 would be better for me. I had my eyes on the sandik 30 Mb/s one but I've noticed they've released another one..
OLD http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B00IIJ6W4S
NEW http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Adapt..._sim_pc_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=02GXYJZC6GPX250649MH
I have two questions basically,
1. How come the old one is cheaper than the newer one, since the newer one is faster? Is it really faster or is that just branding?
2. Does it slow the device down a lot in general ? Like not just booting up?

Newer one is cheaper because it is being sold by amazon themselves, whereas the old one is being sold by some other company.
I don't know about slowing the device down. I have 64gb, but it definitely should not affect speed because booting is being done from internal memory. Also, all your apps will be on internal also, unless specifically installed on external.

I meant the time it would take to read the media on the card etc. Not the actually OS booting.
If you use a class 10, and only load your media on it(don't load apps), you should be fine and not experience any slowdowns.

I've found that with a class 10 64gb card you definitely see lag when using the stock music app, that changed when I moved to rocket player. That's with around 50 GB of music, just trying to scroll through artists etc.

How much storage will be available on the 16gb??

As many of you, I'm considering the 16gb model. I have like 2gb of music and another few for apps. My question is, after the OS how much space can we expect to have.
On my Nexus 5, 12.55 GB formatted/installed with no apps installed, which isn't really a possible scenario. FWIW, I have 3.52GB of apps installed, a few megs of images and other, and 517MB of cached data and have 6.4GB left.
Before installing the Marshmallow official version, I was routinely running into storage problems just with downloaded/cached music after a few months of use.
Yeah I was kinda thinking that around 12gb would be free. I have a galaxy s6 now and there is like 9 gb of "other" storage which is prolly all the Verizon crap in addition to the OS.
Something to consider.
I'm on the marshmallow Preview on my Nexus 6 and I've noticed the OS seems to cache higher amounts of data. I'm constantly seeing 1gb cache in my storage and clearing it. Not sure of this is a marshmallow thing or just some weird quirk with the preview build

I preorderd a 16 and 32 and will return one obvi but want to be safe and not regret not getting enough space down the road.
I went 32 just to safe than sorry. Currently my usage on the Nexus 5 I would have 6GB of free space on a 16 model. I got the 32GB in case I decided put my music and a couple of videos on my phone for vacation trips I will be taking this year.

That's been my thinking as well. 32GB is really the minimum if you want to have some media files on hand for those (admittedly rare) moments when there's no internet connection.
I don't need my entire music collection or video collection, just a few albums and a couple HD episodes or a movie as backup. Oh and a few games, most of which are getting into the 2GB+ sizes (Hearthstone, etc.)
Also if someone intends to record 4k videos it would be advised not to go with the 16GB version.
Hopefully this won't be a problem at all. I imagine we will get "lite" roms and such. Something tells me it will be manageable.

As its a pure android phone the software won't take a large space.I think 12.5 GB will be available for users.I don't think 16 GB model is right choice but if you doesn't download many apps and games then its a good option.

Pay me no mind I got the 32GB. Honestly if I just stick with my most use apps I would only need 8GB on the phone. I got the 32GB only because I am taking a lengthy vacation. Might want to carry a few movies and also might take a lot of photos and videos while out and about.
