Z1 flaps - metal replacement - Xperia Z1 Accessories

Hello guys and girls!
I have been wondering, weather anyone of you have seen replacement flaps for Xperia Z1? Not a cheap plastic, like the ones we have on our phones, but a premium, custom made aluminium (or any other metal) ones, that align perfectly with the frame.
So far I've found the plastic ones, if anyone is interested Here are replacement flaps I was able to find on the internet (these ones are for the black Z1, but other color variants are available):
http://www.witrigs.com/oem-usb-data...rs-replacement-parts-for-sony-xperia-z1-black
If anyone knows anything other spots/manufacturers where to buy flaps, please post your findings here!
EDIT:
Since this thread is getting some attention, I've decided to cross out the misleading information. The original flaps are indeed aluminium. I guess I didn't checked properly before creating this thread. I saw the plastic white part which is inside these flaps and assumed the outer surface is just a paint that imitates aluminium. Turned out this white plastic part is glued to the aluminium flap.
One of the posters tested the waterproof capabilities of these replacement flaps from the link I've provided above. According to his research they waterproof the phone, however it is hard to say - to what degree. Here is the link to his tests (with photos): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48885433&postcount=6
DISCLAIMER:
If you are planning on replacing your flaps, be adivsed that these replacements might not offer the same water/dust protection as the original ones.

Doesn't say anything about being waterproof, only dust resistant.

The flaps on the Xperia Z1 are already aluminium. The laser engraving where it says 'micro-SD' is wearing off a bit on my Z1 and a silver shine is under it. I tried scratching the inside of one of my flaps and yup, it's aluminum.
Thanks for the link, nice to know there are replacement flaps for when/if mine wear out!

Hey there! Thank you very much for this test!
You've mentioned that the build quality of these replacements is fantastic. I understand that they feel sturdy and fit the spots at least as good as the original ones. However, were you able to find any differences between the originals and the replacements (i.e. colour hue/missing details/different design approach/etc.)?

There exactly the same, the SD card one actually comes with the SD card lasered on it. To be honest, I'd even say that they were genuine parts that they buy from china, etc. (where all the phones are built) but that's just my opinion, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. That's why I wonder if there actually the genuine thing.
I thought I'd test how waterproof it was a bit more... this is for total satisfaction and peace of mind. Yes I risked my phone to test it! Dedicated

Pretty easy. Will explain as easily as possible.
If your flap has snapped off, the little bit will most likely still be stuck in. I'll show you which part:
This part will still be stuck in the phone (the bit circled)
I just got a pair of pliers or tweezers and turned the phone upside so the bit was hanging, maybe use a pin to dig it out a little or make it move so it hangs out.
(this is how I did it, but my part wasn't attached of course, but the plastic bit was sticking out when it was broken off):
Pull it out, and you're done. Now you just need to stick the part in the hole of the phone which is pretty easy. Quite straight forward.
Any questions, feel free to ask.

Problaly best. They are very fragile flaps.

My flap won't align flush with my device
Was wondering if someone could please give me some advice. The very first time I opened my MicroSD card slot, the flap would not re-align properly. I've checked inside the flap (and device - externally) and nothing seems to be blocking it. Any suggestions?

No, it is no longer secure / waterproof. It can be seen where the flap rests along the phone, but is not tightly secure (there is a space between the flap and phone), and the edges of the flap are very pronounced as you run your fingers along it.

Would you like me to attach a picture? I just removed the flap and reinserted it...still not closing properly. I'm not sure what the issue could be. Also, do you think replacing the flap would make a difference?

[Q] Lens protection, ideas/needed?

I don't want a case, the phone seems relatively tough by design, gorilla glass and all. I'm concerned about the camera though. Anyone have any ideas for protection or whether it actually needs it?

Interesting - didnt know those sort of things existed.
Not sure what to do about mine - I'll monitor this thread with interest
It was my understanding that the lens cover is made of the same/similar glass that's used for the front of the phone.
The HTC Desire etc. had a plastic lens cover that was on the back cover rather than on the actual phone itself which is why something like that needed to exist.

I've got a scratch on the front screen of my phone already! Didn't get any in my hero this bad after 20 months. No idea how it happened.
Thinking it might be a one off. Has anyone else got any scratches?

(temporarily for now) I have a small square cut out from the left outs of INVISISHIELD screen protector and have placed it over the "8.0 MEGA" bit.
So when I place it on the table the invisishield will take the weight & scratches

simply buy a cheap phone protector, cut it and put in to the lens. I do that on my hd2 for years and its great.
This sounds like a good idea. Does it affect picture quality through the invisishield though?

No I just did two really thin strips on the top and bottom of the lens so that it doesn't affect camera whatsoever. And on the bottom just above the speakers. Ill take a pic and post it when I have time. definitely working though. I'm at peace without needing a case.

Looks good. I'm sure I had some of this stuff lying around but predictably, I can't find it. Will definitely buy some!
I find it hard to believe that some case maker doesnt jump on this gap in the market and design a case with a simple sliding or magnetic cover over the lens... it seems simple, in my head!
Im going to try and make my own cover on a silicon case, just ordered some really thin magnetic strip and going to try to devise a simple material flap to cover the lens and fix with the magnet.. sue, it will prob look awful, but its a case of function over design for me!

Taurus Aluminium Bumper case - Fit AT&T SGII Variant?

I know there are a few (<1mm) dimensional differences between the OEM and ma bell's variant. Anyone actually try to see if it fits?
EDIT:
So, just got the case, and glad to say that it is a perfect fit, save for the top mic being slightly covered (which is fairly immaterial imo).
The fit and finish are absolutely top grade. The case does not seem to affect radio signals nor accessibility of the battery cover, headphone jack, speaker and microphone.
It's important to note that the phone with the bumper on feels nice and secure in my hands. I have 'standard-sized' hands, and found the phone alone slippery, as if it were about to jump out of my hands at any point. After adding the bumper, grasping the side of the phone makes it feel much more secure and actually easier to use. Much less awkward.
On with the pictures.

Really big box for a small package inside.
Shows where to install foam tape.
Very nice and snug fit, with zero play- before adding foam tape.
Foam tape in place now that I know the phone fits well.
Perhaps they left this bare for a wrist strap? Though, I didn't notice a slot for one on the international version. In any case (pun?), the bumper case seems to extrude far beyond the exposed part.
Not the best angle, but the loudspeaker is perfectly centered, and fully exposed.
Note the mic port (bottom of phone). Fully exposed, near-perfect alignment.
The volume and power buttons are still easily triggered, although they seem recessed within the bumper. You have to use the cushioning of the finger, as opposed to the tip however.
Standard headphone jack fits snugly, without contacting the bumper.
The tiny bump on the back of the case, part of the headphone jack surround, provides a 1mm clearance. Since the camera module slightly protrudes, the actual camera clearance, at it's lowest point, is about a 0.5mm. While this is far from sufficient on a rough surface, it is good to know that sliding it across a flat surface such as a table or desktop will not damage the camera.
A good 1mm+ of clearance on the front side.
will be good.
u can order
thanks. hope i'm not a guinea pig here
let me know how it goes for you... i'd love to use one of these.

Word of warning - I bought the case mate case with the metal back (http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Ga...-S-II-Barely-There-Brushed-Aluminum-Cases.asp).
Very nice case but killed GPS.
Without the case immediate fix.. with the case no fix at all. Had to get rid of.
I have a feeling all metal cases will have the same issue.
I wonder if that was just because of the metal back, or just metal in general. I hadn't read anything negative about the Taurus bumpers, in regards to GPS signal.
Worth testing though, having just come from a Captivate I'm a little sensitive about my phones GPS capabilities

With the european version and the Taurus GPS works perfect! Really a great bumper, I hope it fits for you guys!
We're talking about a .7mm difference in height as the biggest difference in size between the two devices. I know it's aluminum, but it's SO close... unless it's landing-on-the-moon precise, I feel like it's got to fit!
I hope so anyway, every other case I've seen is gigantic and really defeats the purpose of having such a slim phone.
No GPS Issues (still works indoors)
Gives a great sturdy feeling.
DOES NOT provide any clearance to the rear camera lens (stock battery).
Very very close to the same offset on the backside.
Gave me my missing Lanyard attachment point via a loop through the speaker hole.
I'm loving it in Gunmetal

Ugh it provides no protection to the camera like the CaseMate one does. The case mate cover at least lifts the rest of the phone high enough so that the camera bit is not extending out beyond the backside and thus you avoid scratches to the lens etc.

I mean, I wouldn't mind a full metal one. IF it actually covered the back as well and lifted the general phone off the deck enough for the camera "housing" to not scratch against the table etc.

Agreed. What makes me even more optimistic is the fact that if you check out some installation videos on Youtube, when applying the case, you place a rubberized seal between the bumper and the phone itself. This protects the phone from the bumper itself, and also provides a more snug fit, as opposed to a hard-on-hard surface.
I expect the case later today (10/14/11). Promise to report how it goes as soon as I get my hands on it, and will include UHQ photos of the install.
Perhaps this thread should be moved to 'AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Accessories'?
My bad.

Good pouch without magnets

I was originally looking at purchasing a PdAir leather pouch to clip onto my belt because my phone is always slipping out of my sweatpants pockets but than I read magnets are not good for our phones so just wondering if there are any cases out there with velcro?
Heres the type of case I am looking for

Yup I know thats why I didn't buy it. I was thinking about taking out the magnets and sewing velcro but not sure how that would work.
Have a look at easecase. You can modify a lot, including how it is closed. I'm sure if you ask they can also use velcro.

Not to mention a friend of mine whos credit card was stored in an non-magnetic flipcase along with his phone and get destroyed, too. Most likely by the magnet that's build in the phones speaker.
I highly advise against storing phone and credit card in the same pouch.

Look at carefully. F.e. in the big picture number 3 (both in D1 and D2 description).
Their edges are different. I believe D1 is more comfortable and that is why I bought that.
Velcro is OK. But a little bit weak. There are 2 small velcro in the place of snaps. If I buy now may be I would order one big velcro.
Also D2 has cut. But I asked and they did the same cut for D1. Btw the cut is not so "usable", doesn't help much.

UPDATE: PICTURES ADDED Slim Magnetic (Trifold) Cover Case

UPDATE: PICTURE ADDED!
There are a total of 6 magnets on the case (as you can see in pic 1 and 2). most of you might have concerns of how the magnet will affect the tablet. i can tell you from my experience that IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY S PEN capabilities. They use the 6 magnets so that when folding the cover, it will stay together. And because of the magnet when its folded its VERY strong, not flimsy.
S Pen is also accessible shown in pic 7
Charger is accessible shown in pic 8.
Top isnt cover well, the volume and power button visible as you can see in pic 9
Overall the case is very thin, about 1.3 cm?? But it does feel like it added some weight onto the tablet.
ALSO: this case comes with a screen protector (the one that i have on, i did screw up a few times)
Lemme know if you have any questions

My only concern is if the magnet is strong enuff to affect our s-pen. i sorta did a test which i place a magnet near my screen and attempted to draw around it...had some slight issues i dunno the exact strength of the magnet that i used.

Just stumble on a magnetic slim case on ebay and figure i should share
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultra-Slim-...Galaxy-Note-10-1-N8000-N8010-SP-/261097852157
VIDEO DEMO LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GUXo4byqjQ&feature=player_embedded
I ordered one already and will post pic when i getting them
My only concern is if the magnet is strong enuff to affect our s-pen. i sorta did a test which i place a magnet near my screen and attempted to draw around it...had some slight issues i dunno the exact strength of the magnet that i used.

I'm curious how it will work our as well. looks like a reasonably priced, nice looking case.
ya, when i get it imma post up some pics. but the main reason why i got it was for the magnetic clip, which can be tucked/fold in when its trifolded (<=not sure if its a word)
But having any magnets next to an electronic device spells disaster.

Well they can't hurt the memory unlike if you have a hard drive in there, but my concern is that I bought a poetic case which has two magnets on each corner of the case near the speakers. At least they aren't anywhere close to the pen.
yea thats what i was somewhat worry about. there are a total of 4 magnets (as seen from vid) and when closed all 4 are pretty much around the camera area, which is also where the mobo is located as well i think...
review?
Has anyone purchased this case who can share their experience?

I sent a question to the seller to see what they had to say
I'll be all over this after a review. Looks like the magnet may be in a bad spot when standing up in landscape mode...

The company said this about the magnets
dont worry, we have tried it , no interference with the magnets
I have one. I think it's great, especially at that price. There's a little give in it when typing with it propped up in landscape (at a small angle, with the tablet "upside down") but it's very stable otherwise. Only other problem is that it doesn't close if anything's plugged in to the headphone jack.
My first thought was why did they not cover fully the back of the note, it looks like they have little wings sticking out the back on the sides. If they made a cover with the back completely covered with the same material I would definitely buy one.

Yeah it looks like they didnt cover the part that secured the tablet in place.
This is the case I have:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088I9AX4/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i00
and I enjoy it. It covers the tablet nicely, easy access to the pen, in landscape on a table, the top is elevated about half and inch or so to give a nice little angle on the device. Also it can easily be set to sit up with 3 different angles in the landscape mode. Slim and sturdy construction as well with decent padding.

The wing is there because there are TWO different layers within the case. I can assure u its fully cover the back of the tablet.
More pics will be posted tmr. Sorry been busy lately

How do you feel about the case after having it for a few days? And how is the fit? Does the Note snap in tightly? I have a $7 poetic trifold, but don't like that the bezel is covered. I really like the looks of this case, but would like to hear a bit more about it.

I actually like it ALOT. when its in trifold mode, especially laying down for typing its very sturdy, it DOESNT wiggle or move at all.
and YES its a good fit for the tablet, as long as you dun hold it by the cover and wiggle it vigorously. As you know there are only 3 corners supporting the tablet, since we need the opening for s pen, but from my experience if you simply push the s pen corner (the corner that isnt cover) it can easily pop up.
lemme know if you have any other questions.
ALSO the magnets DOES NOT affect the screen for me.

z3 compact cases thread

Gel case - just popped up on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Xperia-Compac...615&sr=8-32&keywords="xperia+z3+compact"+case
Nillkin case (I generally love the textured feel of Nillkin) - http://www.amazon.com/IVSO-Compact-...718&sr=8-36&keywords="xperia+z3+compact"+case
Would be nice if possible to note if any cases listed here fit the Sony dock DK48 ok.

Case-Mate has a tough case available soon that seems to compatible with the dock. Only downside is they didn't cover the charging-flap. Wich make it look weird and a lot of the side unprotected.

I made a request if there will be other docking-acceptable models and another tough-model that covers the flaps.
That would be ok if the uncovered flap bit, matched the bottom half, the magnetic charging is definitely accessible.

The official Sony smart window view case will work with the dock when the front of the case is folded to the back. This is what I intend to buy.
Just received a batch of these (10 for $16) from a seller on aliexpress. They're from the same factory as the 'terrapin' cases made for the Z1C.
Very light plastic with rubber finish and holes in all the right places This was my fave case for the Z1C so glad they're making them for our new baby. Gonna keep a couple and the rest are going on fleabay :good:
Now I just need a phone to put inside it

From the pictures I've seen of the smart window covers, they have a cut out for the magnetic charging, you won't even need to fold it open to charge it in the dock.
I've managed to only find one video yet of the thing in action including, how you attach it. Sadly it's in Italian but you get the gist from the video.
It looks like the inside of the cover that attaches to the back of the phone is some sort of sticky? plastic that attaches to the glass back, rather than the usual plastic type tray that clips on, this does make it more form fitting, I don't know how secure or long lived it would be though. Take a look and see for yourself. (This is for the Z3 but the Z3c also has a version which will be the same, just smaller)

That's annoying. They've gone from one extreme to the other. I suspect a lot of people with the CM Tough for the Z1C, like myself, ended up cutting a gap for the magnetic charger.
TBH that's the only port I really need access to. I very rarely connect the device by USB and the SD and SIM both go in the phone when I get it and come out when I sell it.
Here's hoping for some well designed tough cases.

Yes, that makes more sense. I was going by the description given here - http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z3-compact-scr26-style-up-cover
But now I've seen a description of the charger dock and it says the pins are compatible with our without a case, and the window case seems to be very thin material anyway.

Have a link to your eBay listing? I wouldn't mind to get one of these. Obviously don't need 10 though.

I see you're in the USofA. Considering the postage from my part of the world, you'd be better off ordering straight from here :good:
Anyone know where to get a Crystal case/clear hard case in reasonable time?

When your beauty gets a scratch or breaks don't blame Sony then but yourself..
Case Mate barely there is out:
https://www.gadgetwear.co.uk/case-m...r-sony-xperia-z3-compact-black?filter_name=z3
Seems dock-compatible!
But: same unprotected side as the tough edition.
Already a report on a shattered screen from a drop:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIFgcCoWEZs
So casing seems the way to go. Already preordered the CM tough for convenience until another good case pops up.

Hey.. was just kidding.. I will certainly have a cover for this phone considering that this is a phone I intend to use for at least the next 2-3 years. Been using my GS-II for the past three years with a cover and is still looking pretty good all because of the cover. But that said, seeing this beauty without the cover is a treat it in itself
Really waiting to see the official style cover from Sony for this phone similar to the one for Z3.
Received a hard shell case from eBay this morning, will protect sides but not much protection top and bottom, nice and thin. £1.95 on eBay delivered. I'll post some photos when I get the phone, maybe tomorrow.
I must admit, after seeing the video, and not having a glass phone before, I'll be looking for something that's probably Gel for bounce, non flip & definitely with a cut-out for docking port only. I've had a good look on Amazon/Ebay etc. but it's too early to tell as the phones not actually out yet. Hopefully the clove case will do for the interim until the pictures a bit clearer and thee's some user reviews on the various options. Definitely needs a case of some sort though that's beyond doubt.
