[Q] Aviable space for apps? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Considering to get 16/32GB and would like to know how much space is for to install apps/games with the Note 2014? Is it still 2GB for apps only (like Note 2) or can u use all space like Nexus devices for apps/games?

I have the p600 16GB tablet... 11GB left for apps/games.

Thx, so they changed and can get all storage left for apps. Then I get the 32GB version instead. 11GB left isnt enough for apps/games.

Good choice. Tablets really need more than 16gb internal. The extra 50 bucks or so is well spent.

[Q] How many GB are available in the Galaxy Nexus 16GB version?

I know the question title sounds self answering, but on my AT&T SGS2- it says 16gb on the box, but when I look at what is actually available for use, it says 11.36gb available.... total. But of course it has an SD slot. If the gNex only has 11gb available out of 16, that'd be a problem for me since it has no SD slot, which means I would wait. I'm debating on waiting for the 32gb or just ordering the 16gb version now depending on this info. Thanks for your accurate response
Total space available shows as 13.33GB
Mine also says 13.33 GB, but if you have apps synced/backed up to your google account it will install those as part of the "setting up" sequence, so your "available" storage will be less after set up.
also keep in mind if you have Google Music, then the cache will also eat up a lot
Ample space for a whopping 2 or 3 HD movies
Thanks! Question officially answered.
Thanks everybody! That's pushing it for me. On my SGS2 I'm using about 11gb right now and I don't even have movies on it. Shouldn't the sad face icon be blue too? Cause that's the colour I'm feelin now.

How much of the 13.3 should be available on first boot? (Ie how much space does the os use?)

I have issues with mine, under storage it reports 1.3 gb for apps, 3gb for music/videos and 6gb free, I'm missing 3gb?? Windows reports 6gb free and 7.3 used?? The numbers don't match what happened to my 3gb?? Any help appreciated here.

6.3 + 7 = 13.3 total. Exactly what the other guys told you they had. Zero problem. All storage works this way. You have 16gb of storage, but only 13.3 is usable (after format). Same with your computers hd. For example, if you have a 320 gb harddrive, once its formatted to usable space, you only see like 298gb. Same with your phone.
Edit: I Think you're asking two different questions. As long as both are reporting the same free space you are ok. Formatting "takes away" space, and the os takes up space. This looks about right to me.
When u buy a 1TB hard disk, and you connect it for the first time, you have c.a. 900/950 GB total space. free, even less.
It's normal, every device with 16/32/64 etc, has less total memory than stated.
This is why I asked what was available after a fresh install, replies I got were 13.3gb. My system settings under storage shows 1.39 for apps, 3.04 for pictures and videos, and 6.60 available for a total of 11gb roughly. So does the os take up 2.3gb?

Samsung might added fatty TouchWiz. That custom themes and its framework take more than stock android.
This is one of the few benefits that bests the GSM Version.
On Verizon, you get 4G with 32GB.
And I could care less about OTA.
So in the end, Verizon variant wins.
Only I miss out on accessories, white housing, and a slightly weaker development team compared to the GSM.

32gb S3, is all space available for apps?

Is all 32 gb of space available for apps? I'm so disappointed about not being able to move apps to an SD card. Nova 3 is almost 2 gigs! With Shadowgun and Dead Trigger installed, I'm out of space on my 16gb S3. I would have bought the 32gb model if I would have known ahead of time.
i got stuck with a 16gb model because sprint stores don't carry 32gb
16gb you really only have like 12gb usable
there are work arounds but you have to be rooted, etc to move apps to SD card. i hope google brings back ability to install to SD card when you download a game..

Yeah, the 16gb is a horrible option if you like gaming. Thanks for the link. Still would prefer a larger internal though. I'll be going for the 64gb Note 2 when it releases.
So does anyone know if the 32gb S3 lets the additional 16 gb be used for app storage?
I have the 32gb model and if I recall it was about 26gb usable, more than enough imo

That's how it is. Space is lower than what manufacturers advertise + system hogs space. Just buy a 64GB microsd card, they're not expensive.

The 8GB Nexus 4 has just over 5GB of usable storage. There is a mod for the Note 2 where you can use your external microSD as your internal SD and vice versa. You might want to do this if you have a 64GB microSD so you'll have a lot of "internal" storage.

You still get the advertised 16GB but only 10GB is usable.
There's a good explanation for the "discrepancy" on memory.
Before I explain, you need to know that the manufacturers have not lied about the space they are offering. It's a good play of words.
First, there is a difference between,
A gigabyte and,
A giga byte.
The former is the actual term for that memory band.
The latter is simply a play on 10^9.
A gigabyte is 1024 megabytes. And a megabyte is 1024 kilobytes. And lastly, a kilobyte is 1024 bytes. Multiply that: 1024^3 and you get:
1,073,741,824 bytes.
So a gigabyte has 1,073,741,824 bytes.
You would think manufacturers would give you the full amount of bytes in each of their gigabyte.
Wrong, they simply adopted that a "GB" =
1 x 10^9 bytes. In other words,
1000000000 bytes. Which is technically true.
Since its standard notation that,
Kilo=1000
Mega=1000000
Etc...
Now that you know how they purposefully misled you, but not illegally, you can calculate your own true memory space in byte form.
Take your 16,000,000,000 and divide it by 1,073,741,824
Your magic number becomes
14.9011611938
That's the amount of real gigabytes you have.
Then there's the OS.
Try it yourself with your PC hard drive. There is always ~6.9% "discrepancy".
My HDD sells as 500GB,
In reality, I get 465 gigabytes.
This applies to all flash memory, hard drives. Also includes your SD card.
Firms also use it to advertise Internet speeds. In this case they like to use megabits instead. Where a byte = 8 bits.
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
There's also a 1.3gb system cache partition which is largely free, Amy idea why it's so large?

You should probably ask that on a different thread since this has nothing to do with the op posted qustion, But ill answer, I need more posts up anyway gotta get rid of this junior member thing haunting me on my left, anyway, Do you need an anti-virus...no, i don't use one, the amount of Linux viruses are very low, but if you want to be safe then go ahed and get it. Are torrent is safe using the utorrent app. Well the app itself doesn't make them safe it depends on what you download, uploaders can upload good files, or they can upload harmful ones, you gotta be careful, and honestly ive had bad luck with the android utorrent app anyway, I use torrents on my computer there is really not much need to use them for your phone as most app sizes are pretty small and download quickly, and you can find most apps online just searching for the apk's if you fail or don't want to use the market...hope this helps, and apologize to everyone else for responding to an off topic post, and also doubble bumping an old thread

You should see what dr.ketan explain here if you wanna know

16 vs. 32 GB and ROMs

Is anyone having trouble deciding on 16 vs 32GB configurations? Mainly because of the difference in RAM, with 16/2GB and 32/3GB.
Is there a difference in ROM building based on these versions? Or will all ROMs work the same on both versions? Do any other phones have the same thing, having different amounts of RAM? Not sure if I need the extra GB, but I'll have to see what ROMs support first...
This is all hardware. How in any way would it affect software? It just lets people who need more space for music (like me) to have more internal storage and 1 gb more of RAM which is also really good for people who want speed. For those who just use their phone once in a while, they can buy the 16 GB 2 GB RAM one. It all depends on preference.
32gb
I would recommend 32 gb as all the media files will be bigger due to the resolution. With LG's software there will only be 10~11gb of space left for the user

Oh right, the g3 will have an sd slot. I'd still go for the 32gb for apps (making the files install on the ext sd is a hassle and the apps won't run when you take the sd out)
Wanting to push this thread because i have the same question... I want to see some roms on the g3. But there is still no answer if there is a difference between 2gb and 3gb in building roms.
No problem here...32gb all the way.
Why would anyone choose 16/2 when you have the option of more storage and ram...makes zero sense.
Always buy the better option!

3gb version all the way!
What is the model number for the 3gb version and where can one buy it.....?
I'm okay with 16 GB of RAM. It wasn't an issue on my Nexus 4 and it isn't an issue on my Nexus 5 and 7. Besides, with an SD card slot, storage isn't an issue.
However, given the option between 2 GB of RAM and 3 GB, I'd go with 3. Always go with more RAM when you have the option.
Problem is that I am in the UK, so only 16gb coming as far as we know. That means I need to compromise on my storage. It will be a hassle to often move my camera pic and videos to SD card, and Whatsapp doesnt allow it.
I dont know which other data intensive apps will also have issues if i try to move to SD card....bit of a minefield.
Any tips would help ?
Shall I just forget about the 16gb version and get a different phone (I do like the look of this one however) ?
Hi all just want to know how much space left available can be used if i take LG G3 16GB ? Thanks

I would guess 10 to 11 gb of space for the apps and data that cannot be moved to the SD card. For me, this will consist of a few apps (metro newspaper eats loads of space !) , and lots of camera pics and videos (high resolution) and loads of whatsapp pics and videos (whatsapp stuff cannot be moved to sd either)
......that is why i am avoiding getting the 16gb version - LG are such s**theads for not selling the 32gb in the UK...makes me so angry !
I sent an email to LG UK support and as expected, they could only tell me that at present the 32gb is not announced for the UK, nor do they know if it will be or when, blah blah blah !!
I already preordered the 32GB version because
- apps getting bigger like GTA
- Offline Navigation like Navigon need alot of space
- Taking pictures and Videos
at least LG sells the 32GB here. HTC won't sell the 32gb M8 and S5 also not available as 32 GB
perfect would be a G3 with 64 GB internal memory

what about ROMs?
Is it that same custom ROM can work on both variants? Only difference i see is an extra gig of RAM. But needed a confirmation if anyone knows

What is the usable space on the 32GB variant?

Hello, I've been thinking about getting the Honor 7x for my next phone and was wondering how much of the space is free for the user in the 4GB RAM/32GB variant selling in India for Rs.12999? I can't get the 64GB version since it's a tad bit expensive, so is the available space on the 32GB sufficient for a person who just sticks to a limited set of apps during their daily usage (just messaging, social media, youtube, maps, etc., I don't store music on my phone nor play heavy games and use Google Photos for photos). Thanks

The storage is never proportional and the size usable on 32GB is almost 20 gb i think stock, but with an extra 32gb or more class 10+ or better UHS sd card will be good for the phone since it easily handles the speed..
17 free

From memory, i bought the 64Gb french version and the free space was around 49Gb. You can free some space by uninstalling some crap installed ap and you have around 50Gb.
It's quite confortable.
