What personal tweaks or settings do you apply after a fresh install? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I was hoping some members can chime in and list the things they do after a fresh install, such as settings, apps, fav mods, hacks or speed tweaks.
Here's some of the things I typically do after a fresh install...
In Settings > Buttons, change around the way the menu and home buttons work. This option is available on a CyanogenMod ROM.
In Settings > Developer Options, select the Advanced Reboot option so options appear in the power menu for rebooting into recovery or bootloader. This option is available on a CyanogenMod ROM.
In Settings > Developer Options, make sure USB debugging option is checked.
In Settings > Security, make sure Unknown sources is checked, so I can install apps other than PlayStore apps.
In Settings > Storage > USB computer connection, enable MTP option
Install F-Droid for Free and Open Source Software available to Android
Install Adaway, which is available on F-Droid
Install Nova Launcher

[Q] No more USB dection in Windows after flashing to AOKP Build 30

I flashed my phone to AOKP Build 30 this morning after trying build 28 yesterday. Everything went Ok and phone is running fine on new ROM. I decided to install Black theme on my GN, connected to my laptop (running WIN 7) again but now phone is not detected as USB device anymore. It starts charging phone which means, usb cable is working. I tried on my second PC same issue.
I will appreciate your help.
Do you have the USB "fast charge" feature enabled? If so disable it.
There is also this thread from someone else having the same problem.
But I would say in both cases the "fast charge" is the culprit.
Thanks for your reply. Where is Fast charge feature? I did not enable it. I will appreciate your help.
I just checked fast charge value is zero in ../says/kernal/fast charge.
I'm having the same issue on my GSM version. I came from AOKP build 28 to AOKP build 30. The phone charges but no storage device is detected by my windows 8 pc.
I have DISABLED fast charge and it makes no difference. I've also re-download and re-flashed build 30. In addition I've tried several different kernels all making no difference.
Any solutions???

Fast Charge is a feature of your kernel.. I use franco.kernel and the app that goes with it, in the app there is an option to turn it on and off. If that is not the issue hopefully you can find the answer within the other thread.
Turn on mtp.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I think all problems are related to ROM control settings as regards to the SD card. In performance I unchecked fast charge under kernel tweaks. Under startup tweaks I unchecked SD Boost. I also just disabled all startup tweaks. I rebooted and have full connectivity as well as USB debugging. Hope that helps.

That doesn't work. It's checked already.
I am sorry, I am new to Android. I will appreciate more detailed instructions on how to fix the issue or how to enable MTP etc.

1.) settings -> ROM control -> performance -> scroll down to kernel tweaks, uncheck Fast Charge
2.) settings -> ROM control -> Start-up Tweaks -> uncheck Enable SD boost/uncheck Enable start-up tweaks
3.) settings -> Storage -> three dots in lower right corner (settings) -> USB computer connection -> check MTP
If you didn't know what I was talking about before you probably don't have kernel tweaks or start up tweaks checked. It might be MTP (#3) although it wasn't in my case. Cheers.

First of all, big thanks for your help. In my case first two settings were already unchecked. The problem was in the third option where MTP was not checked in Storage.

Just a note, on build 28 I found that after disabling fast charge, you have to unplug then replug the USB to get detected. You can then re-enable fast charge without disrupting connection.
Fast charge option forces USB power sources to be treated like an AC charging adapter and removes the 500 miliamp limit.
I have the same problem, but.... with the stock rom, with the official 4.0.4 update.
I have tried everything: flash 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.4 downloaded from the official site. Reinstall drivers. Plug into another laptops. Custom roms. I've used the advices from this post (unchecks and checks)...flash original bootloaders, several recoveries... i don't know what else to do.
I'm connecting thanks to AirDroid and FileExpert (ftp transfer this one)
any idea?

I was fine after checking the following three options:
1.) settings -> ROM control -> performance -> scroll down to kernel tweaks, uncheck Fast Charge
2.) settings -> ROM control -> Start-up Tweaks -> uncheck Enable SD boost/uncheck Enable start-up tweaks
3.) settings -> Storage -> three dots in lower right corner (settings) -> USB computer connection -> check MTP

I have done that for four times...and nothing, it's really really weird, my mtp is like dead.
And i am not the only one, in the spanish forum htcmania there are some people with my same problem.
It all started with the official update to 4.0.4 so i hope it would be fixed in the next update (if google won't do worst)

[Q] superuser settings disappeared on cm10.1

I'm on the latest cyanogenmod nightly with superuser integrated. I disabled it and now it's gone from my settings menu so I can't reenable it. help appreciated.
Is the app still installed. Download it from the play store.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I'm having the same problem as OP, need help solving it. Downloading the app from the play store didn't help as CM10.1 has Superuser integrated within it.
Reflash the rom?
figured out how to get the "# Superuser" menu item back...

I just had this same problem - I disabled root via the "# Superuser" sub-menu off settings ..then it disappeared.
...I then also noticed my "{ } Developer options" was gone... (not sure if one led to another or not). Anyhooooo... I re-enabled developer options (via tapping build number a bunch of times) then, inside developer options, turn "on" dev options, then when down to the "Root Access" options, selected then enabled "Apps and ADB".
Tada .. "# Superuser" is back in the main settings menu.
fyi .. I then went back to developer options to turn them off ..as I usually don't have them on unless I'm coding... noticed that the "{ } Developer options" menu item disappeared again. No worries though it reappears if you do go back and tap on build number
Cheerio yohs

Developer Options in 4.3

To access developer options in 4.3 you need to do the following:
Goto Settings, More, About Device
Got to Build Number and press it several times. This will activate the Developer options.
You'll then see Developer options under System Manager
Hope this helps....

Developer options

How to hide developer options in Options?
Go to: Settings>apps> then find settings on list and clear data for it (but that option will be probably greyed out) if so then:
Download this app but it requires root
If you don't have it than only solution will be factory reset.
