Rhino Shield Screen protector - Xperia Z1 Accessories

I was a backer on their Kickstarter campaign and decided to try it out for my Z1. I used the mark 1 version and i was good but it had issues with it getting dented. I then received a free mark 2 and used it on my nexus 7 2013. I really like it much improved. I had used it on my Xperia Z but then when I got my Z1 they didn't have yet. I got an email saying that since I was a backer I get 25% off so I decided to try it out. It comes with a front and back protector or just the front.
I have been using tempered glass protectors for a awhile but today I knocked my phone when putting down my beer. I chipped the side of the tempered glass protector. This was a perfect time to try out the Rhino shield. I must say first impressions are great. It has a nice smooth feel and one important benefit is it won't chip or crack. With My nexus 7 it has held up well against scratches but only time will tell.

Ya it's got all the cutouts. It's been really nice so far. No Complaints. I haven't test banging a hammer against it like the video shows but it definitely is way different than the standard plastic film you buy. I had them on nexus 4 and it survived a couple of drops, it's been on my nexus 7 for 5 months and held up great.

Easier than the cheap ones but still need to be dust free. I have install so many over the years that I have gotten pretty good at it. I always steam up the bath room and clean the screen with an alcohol wipe. To make sure I always give it a blast with compressed air right before i place it on.

Mine came today.

I took it off a while ago. I don't see any issues applying it over top though.

This is very nice but I wondering if my phone will fit on my dock DK31 after apply the screen protector on the front and back? Anyone did?

If your dock came with the two spacers then it should fit. I have a ebay dock that came with two spacers and mine fit in the dock just fine but you need to use the larger of the two spacers.

Yes, I got the larger one but that one is for the phone with case, for the screen protectors is too big. The phone will dance inside with that one.

It fits nicely with them on remember it's front and back protector the I have on so it adds about 6mm of thickness

Z1 screen protector
To be honest, I am happy with the GEARMAXX screen protector I got (front and back) which cost me $12 including p&p. From experience and reading the reviews of others, there isnt much between a GEARMAXX and a Rhino aside from the price...Rhino sells for about $25 (see here). I did have to wait longer for it as it comes from Hong Kong but it was totally worth the wait. Here it is a pic of mine when it arrived

I have both the Gearmaxx and Rhino, the Rhino's major advantages is the anti fingerprint coating and it's ability to absorb some impact. It is also 95% transparent which is very impressive. It also has a much nicer smoother feel that the gearmaxx. The Gearmaxx is better than the cheap PET and less than half the price of the rhino. I can do a side by side comparison if people are interested. I am also planning on doing a couple tests to see how much impact the rhino shield can take.

Screen protector

I bought 5pcs for about $3 off of ebay which is a great deal but it looks like they were cut wrong because it doesnt line up great.
Here is the link:

I really dont want to pay $18 for a single one, like Steinheil.
My question is, have any of you bought cheap ones that lines up perfect with the phone and corners?
As with many things you get what you pay for.
I have the Skinomi which one of the early ones available and its been ok:
http://www.skinomi.com/
The more I use them the more I recommend the wet apply one as they seem to have less bubble and last longer. For people who are worried just go to best buy or a mall stand and have someone who installs them all day install it.
Most of the newer screen protectors don't line up directly to the edge if thats what your referring to. They save space on the edges so that it doesn't peel off as easy and a lot of new cases cover the edges to. Plus they save money by using less material. I have the ones from verizon and they dont go edge to edge. I even believe that the new Zagg's are being cut the same way.

I actually hate the ones that uses water to install, such as invisiShield. They are not as slippery as the ones that stick on there.
Is skinomi requires water to install?

No I am definitely not looking for a perfect fit but the ones I bought does not line up straight, from top corner to bottom corner. I can buy verizon protectors $9 for 3pcs. So, if they dont line up crooked I am fine.
i bought this http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...BX5A/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1324879125&sr=8-6
i think it's worth it since i started using that brand since my first android, 2 yrs ago. it's really tough and durability is super good.
The reason why the nexus doesn't have a dry install that doesn't extend to the edge because our screens are slightly curved so they will create bubbles at the top and bottom of the screen. The wet screens protector will fit better because they are more bendable
I use a brand called terrapin on my GN. They're cheap on eBay but they're made from very hard plastic. They go right to the edges of the screen and fit really well with cut outs in the right place for the speaker, camera and various sensors.
The quality of these protectors is brilliant, no affect on screen quality at all and there's no rainbow effect or orange peel. There's a few light scratches I can see on the screen protector when bright lights are shone on the unlit screen but as soon as you wake the screen up you can't see them at all.

I would still use a screen protector dust/sand/dirt can get on your fingers and still scratch it plus anything gets in the case and the cover may scratch it. I am super paranoid about scratches though so it may be just me.
There's a bunch of discussion in the Accessories forum on which screen protector is the best. I vote for Verizon "clear" one.

In their videos the take a dremel to one and it stops the bit. No way the cheap plastic ones would.
Orange peel is my biggest problem with expensive ones such as invisible shield.
XO skins looks pretty legit. I wish I had seen it before I purchased the one I posted earlier
If they are not too too expensive I might pick that up too, as a back up.

Where did you buy this case?
As i have now tried 3 different screen protectors i can say this:
ZAGG/KINGFISH: both sold by car phone warehouse are no good.
Zagg is a flimsy piece of skin which once fitted is not even smooth. Your finger will not slide on the screen and it makes the view on the screen quite poor as well.
Kingfish is a Matt type screen. Its smooth but also covers the front camera and goes beyond the beveled edge of the phone making it easy to collect dust. Viewing is not very good and i suspect covering the sensors won't do any good either
Positive: Protex
Sold by phones4u and online. Cheap when compared with the above and easy to fit. (I always use droplets of water to fit as it eliminates dirt and little dust fibres to the minimum)
Easy to slide the finger on, does not cover the sensors or cameras.
Rock screen protector: similar to protex, a bit wider and same quality. Highly recommended to the point that i have cancelled the original protectors that Samsung will bring out later in the month.
Overall if you want something that will be good and not disrupt the feel and view, the 2 above ones are ideal. I'm sure there will be other more or less expensive but i won't be testing any new ones.

Are Protex and Rock wet or dry protectors? Do they stretch to the edges of the phone? Or are the edges exposed?
The eyes are slightly exposed about 2mm.
They are not soft protectors and that makes them very good. No glare or other issues. Zagg is a soft one and the most problematic one.
When you say wet or dry i suspect you mean needing to use spray water to apply. Both rock and protex do not need water to apply but using it makes it much easier to apply

Wet application screen protectors
I originally got a dry application screen protector (the ones with the sticky stuff) as an interim measure. After a few days it did start peeling up slightly on the edges as the screen is curved on the edges. I then ordered an XtremeGuard protector (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/23080181...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3744wt_1396) which is a wet application one. It has been sooooo good. Since it is wet application it is alot more flexible and can hence handle the curved edges. Also the XtremeGuard protectors don't suffer from the 'lemon-peel' effect of other wet application screen protectors.
Not saying anything bad against other screen protectors, more just sharing my experience with some screen protectors.
Gear4 Case vs. Case-mate
Hi,
Your Gear4 case looks very nice and pricing is reasonable.
Do you have any experience with the Case-mate barely there cases and how it compares to your Gear4 case?
Thanks

Why bash this company and say SGP was first? This company could have been first they are actually shipping now not just taking pre-orders. I first saw this protector on ebay around the same time the SGP was posted on here so who knows who was first?
I have no affiliation with them I'm just saying there is no point in saying it's not unique when they are the first company SHIPPING one so it actually is unique

Might have been overwhelmed because of preorders, hence the long expected ship time. Either way I'd love to see a review on the Tridea, but SGP makes some high quality products, especially screen protectors.

I got mine today and they were a little difficult to align properly but not bad. You have to press on the edges several times to get them to stick but if your persistent they will stay down. The clarity is pretty good. When the screen is off there are some weird looking sport that almost look like orange peel but they are smooth and you cannot feel them. When the screen is on you cannot see these spots at all. These are just my first thoughts. I will report back in a few days to see if the edges stay down.
Overall I am pretty happy with the protector. They are much better than the straight ones that don't stick to the edges.

I got this one from eBay.
More expensive than getting a Nilkin one from China, but at least I know it'll be delivered early next week.

I've never liked screen protectors, but I got 2 inside the box from Sony...half debating applying them.
the ones from Sony is god awful.
Going to purchase some different screen protectors this week unless spigen releases theirs
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z1 C6903

(still haven't arrived)
Hi, do guys use a screen protector for the rear of the Z1 or just leave it as is? I have the White Z1 and don't want scratches on the real of the z1.
Thanks!
Do you guys remove the original screen protector (the one with the Sony brand) or you apply on top of it? Isn't a bit much? Basically you have two screen protector

I purchased one of those " 10 screen protectors " cheap Chinese ones for about 1-2 pounds. Then I used one for the back of the phone (I cut the corner for the camera) - It dosent looks very pretty but If you are going to put a case on it and want to protect the back from scratching its a cheap solution

People tend to apply on top. I wouldn't treat the sony brand shatter proof film as a screen protector as its not replaceable. (and removing it would void warranty / may make the phone hard to sell in the future if you do.)
Buy a premium phone with glass and aluminum build for a **** load of money then cover it up with cheap plastic as soon as you get it out of the box. Yup, makes perfect sense to me.

Until they come out with the Tempered Glass Oleophobic ones then yes, I will use a cheap plastic one. If I'm spending a **** load of money then you can bet I'll protect it as best as I can.

Still not here (I expect them this week though), but I'll post some feedback when they are.
Only get one set in a pack so if I go ahead ill get two packs just in case.
I've got one from a 10 pack on the front and back atm. Absolutely terrible. Scratches out of nowhere! So bad I can feel them so really eager to get some proper ones. Never had any as bad as this! We're like £3.49 for 10 on eBay hah

Well.. I hope you have kitchen space
I just received the protector and (I probably didn't read the description well) I was surprised to find that it is a wet application one. Here is the installation process explained. It's a finicky, messy (wet) job. It is doable though. I recommend you wear latex gloves.
A word of warning: be careful when you are using the squeegee! I damaged a little part on the bottom edge when I was pressing to down too hard at first and, because of a bubble, the protector got snagged by the squeegee.
Now it needs to dry for 12 hours (which doesn't really matter as it'll be finished in the morning). I'm curious how it will turn out; the front cut out was perfect, though the back one seemed a little on the short side. It also comes with pieces to fit over the sides, but I didn't put them on.
On a personal note, this thing is only temporary, so I don't really care about a less than perfect fit or the fact that I damaged it a little. It just needs to hold out until the liquid sapphire gets here.
I like skinomi adds a bit of a rubbery feel I put them on front and back helps with the slipperiness as I don't use a case

Tudia slim TPU case review

I pre ordered the Tudia case from Amazon.com on Sunday Aug. 3rd and received it on Wednesday August 6th.
Inside the small bubble envelope, I found the case. It was packaged in plastic like many other Chinese cases. It even included a cardboard dummy phone with Chinese writing.
I tore into the plastic and found that despite the cheap container, the case is fairly nice. It isn't very thick and barely adds any overall thickness to the phone. The back of the case feels a bit like velvety rubber, and on the top and bottom ends the plastic is glossy and smooth.
The holes on the case match up perfectly with all of the holes on my device.
The front lip of the case sticks out far enough to protect the Screen when the phone is face down.
The buttons line up nicely, and are easy to press.
I bought this case because I needed a tough case for work. Unfortunately, this case is no different than any other TPU case that I've owned. It seems that it will provide enough protection for day to day things, but if you are looking for extra protection, look elsewhere.
Overall, I think the price is a bit high for what I got. The case looks nice, but I'm a fan of the sandstone back that comes on the phone and if I'm going to cover it up, I'd prefer to cover it with something with more protection. Also, the case is a bit more slippery than the original back of the phone. The phone offers no more protection than any of the 99 cent cases on ebay.

Thanks to info from Charlieb620 and Knight-Rider, it has been confirmed that this case works well with a tempered glass screen protector. To see photos, go to this post...

Will it play well with a glass screen protector?
It appears to have enough room for a glass screen protector, but I can't give you a definite answer because I haven't tried it. There is a very small gap between the lip and the screen. I suppose it depends on the thickness of your screen protector.
Others will be receiving them today and tomorrow and someone will probably chime in with your answer.
Thanks for the review!
Ordered that same one yesterday and one of those aluminum bumpercases the day I got my invite - of course neither will show till next week I'm guessing
So far the only issue I have found getting a new phone from a small company is lack of accessories, the ones I'm finding aren't exactly what I want but will make due.
Just hope more options show over the next few months!

No problem. I'm hoping someone offers a more rugged case soon. I just recently got my one plus one also and I've found it hard to get nice accessories. I'm sure I'll jump to the next big thing in a few months though. This is my third phone this year, so it's a trend lately.
Nice review....

How are they showing up? I did all of this on mobile and they came out fine. Are they insanely huge on the desktop version? I can get online and change their size shortly if so.

Hopefully they are somewhat clear. I took all of them except the last few with the One camera. It doesn't seem to be as clear as my note 3 camera, but I'm still trying to learn all the bells and whistles. I like this phone though.

Pictures look great. I'm waiting for my Diztronic case, it arrives tomorrow. Planning to have any developmental projects for the OPO?

Thanks! Maybe so. I have a few things I'm working on for all devices. I develop apps mostly, but all this "theme" stuff has piqued my interests.
Aside from that, I'd really like to join a ROM Dev group and work with other developers.
I received both my Tudia and glass protector.

It does i have the same case with tempered glass and the case wraps around the top. Extremely nice fit with no issues.

Yep, I didn't want to complain about the injection nub on it, because I don't know if it is possible to make them without it, but it is noticeable for sure.
