force 1080p output resolution for HDMI - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello,
Today I got my Samsung Smart Dock which is working as supposed with my Note 3. My issue is that in a TV, it will display correctly at the TV native resolution, but in my monitor (I-INC iP221) it will display as 640x480 60Hz. The monitor is capable of displaying at 1080p since I use it with my PC. I would like to know if there is a way I can force 1080p to the monitor. I would like to use my Note 3 as a Desktop Replacement for office things, web browsing and media playback.
I have tried several HDMI to DVI adapters I have and I also used an HDMI to DVI cable I also own and it still displays at 640x480 resolution...
My Note 3 is stock ROM and is rooted.
Thanks for all the help you guys can offer.

I already tried using the command
echo U:1920x1080p-2 > /sys/class/graphics/fb1/mode
the modes file shows:
U:640x480p-0
U:1920x1080p-2
but the 1920x1080p-2 mode only keeps the screen black until I disconnect and connect the monitor again where it defaults to 640x480 mode

Hello I have the same issue with galaxy s3 and s4 when i connect to my hdtv directly to hdmi I get 1080P. But when I use my hdmi to dvi adapter I only get 480p. Have you found a solution?

MHL screen resolution

I am considering buying an MHL cable for my SGS2. However, I would like to know what resolution can the phone display on a full-HD monitor or TV?
I have read in reviews that it can output full 1080p when watching videos. But what about using apps (like some office apps, browser) or playing games? Will it run on full HD or on the phone's native 800x480 resolution? What about rotation, will everything work in landscape on the monitor?
This could be a great portable computer (used with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse) if it is able to run apps on the monitor's native resolution. So, what is your experience?
Hi, I have the cable and yes, it is like you said. On movies it will output full 1080 and in application it will use the 480.
Regarding the rotation yes everything can be in landscape depending on the phone position, at least from what I've tried.
This was my idea to, that it could be a portable computer, but ...no.
The resolution, I think, makes me not to use it. In our days we are used to big resolution and in 480 you will be claustrophobic.
And you need the power adapter around you all the time. The cable needs to be powered. It can be powered from the USB on your TV.
I wanted to use the dock with the cable and a bt keyboard/mouse. But the original dock doesn't know data transfer so it can't be used with the cable. The mouse configuration was changed from 2.3 to 4.0 and for me is not practical anymore. You still have to use the phone, for example the back key.
And if I remember well I think when you want to type, the on screen keyboard will appear even if you use the bt one. And in 480 this is half of the screen.
This is my experience.

Black screen with MediaLink HD

Hi,
I was given a MediaLink HD. I tried to set it up, I'd configured it propery (and it was detected on the phone) but on the TV screen I wasn't able to see anything (yet HDMI control feature on my TV detected it as a "player"). I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40D3550. I've checked the specs, and it appears to support only 24fps on HDMI.
According to the specs on HTC's official accessory store, it outputs 1080p 30fps. Is this what causes that I can't see anything? Is there any kind of adapter to convert the signal to 24fps?
Thanks!

Hey, did you ever get this working? I'm having the same issue. Thanks.

720p output to all tv, can you do it?

Can someone make kernel or tell me how to do this, maybe thru some kind of converter or something like that?
1080p/24Hz is chopy for games so maybe this can be done by software or hardware fix??
There is similar kernel but for One S so I belive this can be done for note 2.
Pls help this is realy big issue for mhl/tv output and i didnt find any solution on web how to make this happen on note 2.
I'm to having same issue.
Choppy with the dock. My GNex works so smoothly compared and it's half the phone although it is rooted.
I'd be very excited to known if a custom kernel can fix this. I've posted something similar already in this thread.
Cheers guys.

I hope for the fix to, it a shame that this isnt implemented like and option in stock software. One again please devs or anybody help us with this problem :crying:
Going to try to fix this thru vga pc because in my tv manual says I can select resolution myself thru this input (RGB PC only).
Maybe you too can do something with this.
Well i cant post links so this is what I will test with my Note2:
RED Galaxy S3 SIII i9300 i9308 MHL Micro USB 11pin to HDTV HDMI
HDMI Female to Female F/F Coupler Extender Adapter Connector
Gold HDTV HDMI to VGA HD15 3 RCA Adapter Cable 5ft
When tested will report here... still hoping for kernel modification of some kind...
I have a N7100 and a smart dock this has been my experience:
HDMI -> DVI adapter plugged into a Dell U2312HM via DVI (HDCP compliant):
- Stuck at 720x480 resolution no matter what.
- When mouse and external display is connected there is a drop in frame rate. However, if the mouse OR the external display are connected seperately the FPS remains high.
HDMI cable to my 26" Westinghouse 1080P TV (HDCP compliant but constantly has handshaking issues):
- Appears to display at 1080p or at least scaled up 720p though I set my TV in 1:1 and there are no black bars so I suspect 1080p.
- When mouse and external display is connected there is a drop in frame rate. However, if the mouse OR the external display are connected seperately the FPS remains high.
It seems that there is a bug in the code that has to do with when the phone enters that "desktop mode." There also seems to be a bug when using an adapter for some reason as well. The N7100 seems to act completely differently than my PS3. My PS3 connects wonderfully using the same adapter and the same Dell monitor, no handshaking issues. Though my PS3 to get sound out of the TV's speakers I have to mute and then unmute the TV to get sound anytime the HDMI link is closed and then reopened (starting a game for example). While it seems the N7100 behaves oppositely.
Update on my Gold HDTV HDMI to VGA HD15 3 RCA Adapter Cable 5ft combination is not working the device dont check connection thru hdmi rgb input (no signal or notification of connection). So I belive only hdmi input/output works with note 2. Once again pls help us regarding this option to lock device on 720p output thru hdmi.
man i really need this force 720p playback option as well...

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 Change Outputted Resolution When Using Slimport

Hello,
I recently bought a Slimport to HDMI cable and an HDMI to VGA converter from Amazon hoping to be able to use it on any monitor available at home and office. Slimport HDMI obviously work out of the box however using the HDMI to VGA converter didn't. Finally after I almost exhausted my googliness, I was able to make it work by simply connecting the Slimport to an external power. But there's still a remaining problem, it always outputs 1080p and therefore I can't use it on old monitors that only supports 720p. I tried several resolution changer apps but it only changes the resolution of the screen but not what is outputted on the monitor. Does anyone here know if it's possible or the apps I tried doesn't work as what it should on my Nexus 7?
I've tried it on multiple monitors already but the output is still 1920x1080. The displayed picture is the only thing that changes.

MHL to HDMI screen size

Is there a setting to have a more accurate screen size when connecting to my TV? I have the Samsung MHL adapter and it seems that it either is cropped or too small when using the picture size options on the TV. I have a Samsung Smart TV. Thoughts?
Mhl just mirrors the screen of the tablet which is slightly different.
You can try playing through Mxplayer which gives you the ability to resize to various formats.
I'd get shut of mhl and use chromecast, far more versatile.
