Wifi Tether Router works on Sprint Note 2 with 4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just got an update for Wifi Tether Router, and now my tether works for the first time since I updated to 4.3.
I am on a rooted Sprint Note 2 with a stock 4.3 ROM.

Are you using the wifi tether with TrevE mod or the generic android wifi tether without TrevE mod? Thanks for the heads up.

Use method 3, in tweaks- HostApd Patch Should Be Checked, drivers should be nl802011, the interface should be wlan0, everything else should be left alone, you can also change the network name and password to your choice!

In wifi tether routing settings its under device settings

Same performance as free native
I tried this hoping it would be better than the native tether i found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541900&page=35. The TrevE mod was great. I hope they figure out how to git it going with the 4.3

I used the same settings and it worked perfectly on my Sprint GN2 (stock rooted, Knox removed) I was able to connect my tablet and my net-book at the same time, Range seems pretty good too about 40' away and 3 rooms over from my phone, still had full bars.
I was only able to test on 3G at the moment (no 4G at the house yet)
I hope this works as good on 4G, i will test it out over the next few days.

Anyone NOT have this work yet? I've tried all the options stated above and I don't get an IP no matter what. The SSID does broadcast but no IP is ever obtained. Have an email into the dev but I'm hoping maybe one of you has run into this.
Thanks
Dave

I haven't been able to get tethering to work at all in stable, this is the first time using cyanogen, I didn't flash any RC's.
I wiped the cache and dalvik-cache and reflashed the rom twice.
If I don't turn on encryption my XP laptop connects but cannot get out anywhere.
If I turn on encryption, it never connects.
When I launch Wireless Tether the stock hotspot tethering icon appears in the taskbar along with the Wireless Tether icon and says "Click to configure".
I also tried the Stock HotSpot tethering app and that also did not work, same behavior.
I backed up and restored my APN's after it did not work to see if it helped but I had the same results.
I tried the stock kernal and also pershoot kernel and had the same results.
Wireless Tether is working fine on both stock rom and virtuous for me.
Any ideas?

TRY THIS!!! Don't use the market app at all.. it disables the stock app. Uninstall wireless tether, reboot... then run stock app.
sinistersai4d4d said:
Update: It just started working... I had to uninstall Wireless Tether App and reboot. If you attempt to run Wireless Tether App first it disables the stock tether app. The Wireless Tether market app is not functional in CM, which is kind of annoying but so long as I can tether I guess I can forgo the desktop icon. So for people having issues, make sure you aren't running the Wireless Tether Market App, and if you do run it, you have to reboot before being able to run the stock tethering app. Just uninstall the other app if you have it.

For an easy toggle, use the power widgets in the notification bar, and under CM settings enable the toggle "Wifi AP" to toggle wireless tether from the notification bar easily.

Barnacle and the original Wifi Tether use your own data connection as a hotspot upon being granted root access. T-Mobile doesn't have a way to track this down the way they do with the stock hotspot feature.

So you're saying you have no source stating that T-Mobile can more easily track down tether usage with HotSpot, when compared to Barnacle and Wifi Tether? Or you're saying you made it up and were hoping that googling wifi tether would provide a source for something you guessing at?
Either way, thanks for your speculation.

[Q] wifi hotspot not visible with tethering app

my devices cannot detect my wifi tether on rooted e4gt. Just installed calkulins rom v1.5a. the wifi tether app says its on but nothing. i tried messing with settings but got no results.
is anyone else experiencing this?
Let me tell you about my Wifi Tether experience with my E4GT.
I did the basic ROOT+CWM5 so I could run Wifi-Tether and Adfree.
I downloaded Wifi-Tether 2.0.7 Stable and it said it was on but my PC/Windows 7 box couldn't see it. My MacBook couldn't see it etc.
I snagged the 3.0.xxx Beta Wifi-Tether, whatever the newest Beta is and it worked.

OP was referring to Sprint Hotspot app and others are trying to give him some alternatives. Its seems many people have had issues getting it to work. I run Rogue kernel and have no issue. I have had no issue with no matter kernel/rom combo I use actually.
I had tough times getting the wifi tether to work. I went with a rom that hacks the hotspot. Much better imo. Now my OG Epic and my Epic Touch can run hot spots just fine.

I just tested the update and confirm what everyone else is saying. It doesn't work at all and has the exact same errors as before.

I have yet to try the usb tether. It's 9.99 in the market and again doesn't require root. I'm using a sony vaio laptop running windows 7.

These are the current settings of my phone. Flashed Blend today and it's been great for the most part so far. There's no native wifi tether app, so I installed Wifi Tether.apk (I believe this is the most common, some ROMs even have this inbuilt.
I got it from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ and used QBKING's video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQpIxUxnCqU to install it. However, my wireless network SSID won't show up on the laptop. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!!
Because it's ICS modem, you need to change the device profile to 'Nexus CDMA'.

If you have a Sprint Hotspot on EL29, then you can use it. If you don't have a 'hotspot' plan with sprint, using this Sprint hotspot (modified on EL29) should not charge you any money.
I am hoping that open garden makes a version for ICS. On gingerbread the hacked hotspot usually take a few minutes to kick in. Open gardens app gives internet access immediately. Great app, worth donating for.

are you sure? this is the regular touchwiz, i don't see how it'd be 'hacked' to be free. I don't want a long bill with hotspot charges
If you are using a ROM that has included the Sprint Hotspot hack (which I believe blend does) then no, Sprint should not charge you.. I would just recommend to not go crazy on usage though.

You need to go the place where you downloaded the rom and read carefully if the rom is including the Sprint hopspot hack. If it's including the Sprint hotspot, you will see the similar information like below -
(Crawrj's & Maddoggin's Hotspot hacks to unlock Sprint Hotspot & USB tethering)
The difference between Stock Sprint Hotspot and hacked Hopspot is, Stock Hotspot will not work for you if you don't have hotspot plan or it will ask to to activate the Hotspot. But for the hacked Sprint Hotspot, it just works and shows the 'activated' notification without asking anything.
There are lots of thread related to the same topic. If you spend just about 5 minutes, you will figure everything out by yourself.

It is quite simple to enable as well. You can do it through the app pimp my rom (which I am not affiliated with).
Note: This only works for stock roms running stock kernals with root. Also the tower/network in your area must have it turned on.
Step one: Obtain root. It is required.
Step two: download pimp my rom app from the play store.
Step three: in the app go to tweaks and select telephony
Step four: on the bottom turn on amr-wb
You're done!
When will you notice a difference?
You will notice a difference on 3g/4g only. You will also only notice the difference when calling landlines or other people with amr-wb enabled. However other people will notice you sound clearer.
Warning: amr-wb will NOT be active on edge or gprs service. I take no responsibility for this working or not working on your device or any damage caused by the use if this guide.

This is the command in build.prop to enable... I remember seeing this line since CM7. Sadly, tmobile is the only one to enable it since most have gone to lte which if I'm not mistaken high voice qual isn't even enabled until lte advanced (volte). Voice qual in amr wb won't be too noticeable unless the other caller is tmo and has it enabled or maybe on land line. Maybe all carriers should switch it on until lte advanced. Thank goodness tmobile is starting with it or so I hear.

Made both the CSC edit and the build.prop modification and no change so far. Currently running my own kitbash of the N7105XXDMC3 ROM and kernel.
Update: I finally got around to making it work a while ago: you actually need to factory reset the phone for the related CSC settings to engage.
For minimal hassle:
-Apply appropriate CSC edits to your ROM. (There was a so-called "universal enabler" that forced WB-AMR on all networks, leading to no in-call audio on incompatible networks, not good.)
-Backup your whole phone through CWM or TWRP
-Factory reset
-Skip through setup menus, check that WB-AMR is activated through service mode menus.
-Reboot to recovery and restore backup. Check that WB-AMR is still active, make a test call just in case.
Done.
Dial this number to enter service mode to check just fyi... *#197328640#*
It seems like you need to be running stock or something because I've been unable to get it working on 4.1.2 Jedi. Either that or there might be something we're missing. OP needs to clarify what rom/kernel/modem version he's using.

The last OTA should have enabled it.
