Grip Shells - who has one, what are they like? - Moto G Accessories

Do they add much bulk?
Do they make the buttons a bit harder to press (hopefully as my pocket turns on the phone too much now)
Is the rubber robust, or will it stretch/split
That kind of thing.

How do you know when the phone turns on in your pocket?

I use tasker to set profiles, one of them makes a noise when the phone unlocks. Believe me I know when my pocket unlocks my phone.

I don't have this problem since I use a case. I do use Gravity Screen though to turn off my phone if I face the screen downward or flip the phone upside down. I put the phone in my pocket head first, and if at all the power button is hit, the app will immediately turn it off due to the orientation.

I bought this case the day it came out. When I receive it, I will post some pictures and possibly make a short video review. Depending on how many pages this thread gets I'll either update this post or make a new one.

I'm also very interested in this case, and I hope that the grip gets better as it suggests.. Motorola could have done better when they designed the rear shell!

Got my black Grip Shell and a glass screen protector in the mail last night
So far I'm really impressed. I really like the grip shell.

Can you please post a few more pictures from different angles? Also, is the back of the shell the same slippery material as the stock back cover?
Thanks!

I would assume not.

got my grip shell yesterday, still waiting for the phone to come today. will try to post some pics tonight once i get the phone.
here are some pics:

What is the material of the back cover like? Is it like a grippy, soft touch plastic or is it the same kind of slippery plastic as the default back?

Its the same as the default back

I just ordered the moto g with a royal blue grip shell. I hope I don't regret my choice of color.

That looks damn nice. Guys do you know whether Motorola ships it internationally Or not?
How can I buy it if I'm in Asia ?
Sent from my XT1033 using Tapatalk

The grip is good ? its better than shell stock ?
I waiting for europe shipping ...

Thinking about getting it but what are the measurements with the gripp shell on the phone? Looks a bit wider/taller/thicker.
How is the button feel when they are covered like that?

It's slightly wider, but not much to notice any difference. The buttons respond well. I don't think it adds any thickness at all since its pretty much the same back shell with a bumper attached.
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Des the shell go over the stock shell or does it require the stock shell to come off first?
More questions
Is the rubber able to be peeled off the sides of the screen? And is it nicely glued on to the plastic?

Fosmon PC + TPU bumper case

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0089E4050/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1341692955&sr=8-1
$5.95 shipped with prime (shipping costs may vary) + tax where applicable.
I had been looking for a bumper case for my new S3, and luckily stumbled upon the above case. I had a similar case for my Incredible from Griffin and loved the added protection.
This one from Fosmon is no different. The back is polycarbonate but transparent with a bit of a frosted appearance. The branding on the back is still easy to see. The edge around the sides is tpu with molding for the buttons plus a texture right where my right hand would hold it.
The cut outs for the headphones and usb are large enough where it shouldn't block anything being plugged in. There are holes for the mic and/or other sensors.
I do find the power button is more difficult to activate, but it's not because of the tpu being too tough - its not - its more about the feeling of where it should be as I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus.
Shipping from SF Planet was fast. With a holiday in between, I ordered on the 3rd and received it on the 7th.
I'm glad I found this on the first try. It's exactly what I wanted in a case for a great price.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I have the same case and have no complaints about it! All buttons are very easy to press
I just received this today. Great for the money, but I wish the back was completely clear rather than frosted.
The fit and feel is really good and the bumper feels like it will do the job. Nice ridge to protect the screen if the phone is face down, but not much extra bulk.
I'm sure they frosted it to minimize seeing all scratches a glossy clear back would end up getting and showing.
Great case.
I didn't want a case. But I got one anyway and I'm glad I got this one. It's not super bulky, and yet it feels like it should provide pretty good drop protection on all sides. Here's a few pics.
Sorry I couldn't help but toss in a picture of my awesome blue/carbon battery cover. Love that thing!

Could you post a picture straight on of the back? The angled one makes it look like it's not very see-through. I'm curious if the branding and texture of the original battery cover shows through.

It's certainly frosted and not crystal clear. Sorry my stock rear cover is at home but that one is clear enough to read the TMobile and GS3 branding on the back.

Wow the camera cutout on yours is pretty big! Mine is just right around the edge of the camera
Just bought one of these after checking some reviews on youtube. $5.95 shipped? DEAL.
It doesn't look like it, but are the volume and power buttons exposed or covered? If covered, how easy are they to push?

Covered and they respond very nicely
Received this case today, and WOW!!! It's exactly what this phone screams for.
Blocks the screen with a minor lip for glass down resting. Side grip on both sides, and the covered buttons work great.
The clear back protects the camera and battery door, while allowing for customization of the battery door.
Doesn't add much size, and the weight is barely noticeable.
If your on the fence about a case, the low price makes this a gotta try!

UPDATED W/PIX ROCK texture series Leather Case cover For Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1*

Well I just noticed my case was sitting on my porch. Da! :silly:
After opening it up I am pleasantly pleased.
The case is very slim. Picture 2 iPad smart covers with the tablet sandwiched in between.
The material is nice. Can't really explain what it is accept if you mated the iPad smart cover with some faux leather.
It feels great in my hand and looks good. I really like the slim design.
It is held in nicely with the four corner hooks.. Yes the pen is covered up with oneof the hooks, but the hook easily comes off and you have easy access to the pen.
The other 3 hooks hold the tablet tightly but the pen corner hook is not as tight allowing the access.
Both the typing angle and the up right angle are stable and I don't feel like it will topple over as I pushed on it.
Ports , buttons are all accessible and you can charge while the case is on and closed.
The case has the elastic band on its backside which you pull over the front to hold it closed.
I got the gray color which compliments the tablet nicely. Very professional looking.
I ordered it on the 29th-took 10 days.
Do I recommend it. Yes.
Would I buy it again? Yes.
I will update with pictures later.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150890083058?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Yeah, I bought one of these also in grey, but it hasn't arrived. Should come this week.
I like the thinness of the case.
However, I also got a Noreve case, as I think the top of the tablet is better protected.
That was my only critizism of the ROCK. There didn't seem a lot of protection on the side edges and the top of the case for the device.
What's your thoughts on this?

I like the noreve case. But more than double the cost than the rock. Yikes.
It has enough protection for me to feel comfortable throwing it in my bag or brief case. I was looking for something slim at a good price that did not cover the bezzle. I figure there will be alot of cases coming out soon.
Yeah, I don't like to have my bezel covered either.

The only reason I try to avoid rubber band cases are because once they snap, your case is useless.
Would the band break? (is it secure?)
I have had this case for a week now and my band still seems secure. I use this case alot in everyday use
without the band so even if the band snapped which i doubt it will- it would still work.
Is it just the pictures or does the dark grey look like a very light grey?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk 2
I would say some where in between but more leaning towards the darker. Pix make it look lighter.
I've got the grey one from the local store. It's not a light grey. It's more like a graphite color.
The green one is a light green, kinda like ocean green.
The brown one is also a light brown.
The case is well-maded ,beautiful and thin but I think I will have to sell it because it's difficult to take the pen out.

All I had to do was gently flex the tab outward and it will fix this, than put the tablet back in and the tab will now be easier to open and the tablet is still held securely.

I bought a neo hybrid case for a different phone about a year ago and while it did make the phone look great, it didn't last very long. The case was two pieces... A tpu case and a plastic frame that went over that to secure the tpu to the device. I'm not sure if this case for the N5 works in the same way so I'm hesitant to buy it. What ended up happening to my old case is the plastic frame eventually broke and I'm hoping that won't be the case for this one. Can you tell me if this may be a problem with this one too?

my guess is that as long as you don't constantly take it off and on and put any unnecessary stress on the plastic frame, it should be fine and last at least a year.

They did fix it for the Galaxy S4 with a revision (the area around the port charger) since the plastic is thinnest there. This one... doesn't look like they attempted on preventing the same issue.

Again I want this case too. I love how it looks. But I already own 2 for the 2 Galaxy S4, one which had the area snapped around the port charger, and both had their paint finish starting to bubble and peel.
Looks great! I've got my Neo Hybrid case sitting on the counter in the packaging, waiting for my Nexus 5 to arrive Thursday. It's gonna be a long 3 days of waiting.

Buttons feel good, it has that 'tick' to it. A bit sensitive on the power button side, but it doesn't accidently get pressed on. Just doesn't require a lot of effort to push it in.

I wasn't sure what to say because this phone is bigger but yeah it doesn't offer much grip.
In terms of it holding up, I sure hope that it does, I saw that they had a 90-day warranty on the case so we'll see what happens. The back doesn't leave any fingerprints. I will say this for sure, the phone feels REALLY REALLY REALLY good without a case on.

Its exactly what it is and has more protection with the extra piece inside. From what I can tell (im charging the phone right now) it doesnt touch the outer piece or cause any pressure to it. Theres a gap between them (very minor but enough that it doesnt pressure it).

Hi. If you have case even leather with do cover you can use the app hovering controls. It does not work smoothly but simulates what the shell is supposed to do.
A bit annoying is that many times of you keep your hand hovering it will lock your phone disturbing what you are doing.

I'll jump in here and say that I've had several Ringke cases and they've all been great. They are one of my favorite case manufacturers, and they're fairly inexpensive.
Edit: just ordered a clear case as well. I was going to get black, but decided I want either the red or blue shell, so the clear case will show it off.

My ringke slim case came in
Case looks nice doesn't feel or look cheap.
Doesn't add bulk but does make the phone little slippery in the hand
Like how it came with a screen protector and when installed don't add any glare or interfere with the quality of the screen.
And has table lay so if you lay it on the table it won't be touching the screen
And cutoff for the power button and volume button still are easy to press and don't not interfere.
Overall 9/10

There is already quite some choices and availability for Moto G cases, but none of those I can find on the Internet cover the two weak points of a phone, especially this one: the side buttons AND the screen.
The Ringke look like they are the most reliable cases, so are some rubber cases that wrap the phone in the bumper with cutouts for the Volume and Power/lock buttons but... it doesn't protect the screen as much as the flip shell does but the flip shell leaves the definitely flimsy buttons unprotected.
Isn't a case that cover both weaknesses common for other older models ?

Motorola's official flip shell - is it worth the $30?

What's your opinion on them? Worth the money for a quality shell/flip cover combo?

It's not worth it to me. For $30 I can get a heavy duty Otterbox or something that will actually protect it. Plus I don't like the idea of having to open the case to use it.
I think it is

What's your opinion on them? Worth the money for a quality shell/flip cover combo?

I have one in dark blue, when I bought the phone it was pretty much this or an otterbox. Like the poster above said, it's nice flipping it open and the screen turning off and on, no need to use the power button except when booting into recovery.

That's exactly how it works, by magnet. It's also held closed by the same magnet.
As for the case it definitely gives a nice grippy/rubbery diamond texture and it being literally part of the phone gives the whole thing a nice look/feel. It's my wife's phone and i feel it'll aid in surviving the rigors of purse living. Depending on how the phone falls it should give passable drop protection with the front right edge bring the obvious weak point. She is quite happy with it and, despite initial sticker shock, hasn't regretted the purchase.
I do feel the hinge area could use some work as my wife's doesn't crease evenly along the length (not a big deal just cheapens the impression). Life span of the rubbery "hinge" is also a question. The way the edges of the flap come to a pointed crease rather than being more flush with the phone seems poorly executed to me. I've never had a case of the same style to compare it to unfortunately.
