Time to say goodbye to my gnex... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just bought a note 3 and sold my tried and true gnex.. thanks to all the devs and members who helped with any questions and such.. I will definitely miss the support of this community. Now off to locked bootloaders and safestrap world.

Have fun. Its one laggy device if you put it beside the Nexus 5 so don't bother comparing with the Nexus 5. You are gonna regret if you do so. Compared to the Galaxy Nexus its generations ahead though

I'll be right behind you on Thursday. Switching to T-Mobile and getting a Nexus 5.

Laggy device? I would hardly go that far...I played with a 5 for a day or so and a g2 note 3 and a few others, as much as I love nexus devices the note 3 and the 5 are neck and neck..kitkat does add some fluidity to the 5 but in no way shape or form does it blow the note 3 out of the water..

TouchWiz devices usually start to lag after a new flagship comes out (the old one will be updated with a newer system but the features will quickly bog the phone down), e.g. Galaxy S3 with Android 4.2 and 4.3.

I moved on from my Sprint Galaxy Nexus to a Nexus 5, I'm on T-Mobile now.
By the way, to anyone wondering which phone they should get?
Nothing compares to the Nexus 5.

Switching to T-Mobile and getting a Nexus 5 after work today. I can't wait.

I would love to switch to a Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. But from what I hear from other T-Mobile users in my area is the network coverage sucks. The people I work with have to go outside to make a call.

According to the coverage map, my area is pretty good. But isn't T-mobile going through some stuff to boost their network? I thought there was some news about them buying towers or something from Verizon. I can't remember. It can't be any worse than AT&T was in my area when I was on that.

Not sure where you are. I am on the Jersey Shore, half way between Philly and NYC.

Im right in the center of California.

Well it depends on your setup and eyes. But simple things like flicking around the home screen, scrolling in widgets lag on the note 3 but not on the nexus 5 if you put them side by side.
Then again the note 3 I seen might be a different variant from yours, which also probably comes with a different regional software too.

I'm still considering this one myself, did it take you a long time to get used to the extra device width? I'm thinking it might put quite a bit of extra strain on your thumb when using it single-handed.

I have no issues with it. I like how it feels. But if that's something you may have an issue with, I'd suggest going into a store where they have it on display and check it out in person.

How is the battery life, in your experience? Since I have the extended battery it's been really difficult to let it go but would it make a super big difference?

Battery life is fine for me. Compared to the galaxy nexus, its a lot better. I can get through a whole day easily with the Nexus 5. Something I couldn't do with the gnex. Everyone's going to have a different experience though.

glad i found this thread - exactly what ive been looking for. i have loved my g-nex but its time to upgrade. was thinking about switching to the nex5 but hadnt really heard much. now i have. ill be swinging by the tmobile store this afternoon...

Smashed mine...
I smashed my screen, replaced it with a Xiaomi Mi3 because it has Gorilla Glass 3.

Buy Note 2? Or wait for Note 3?

I hear the Note 4 will be awesome. Why not wait for it? There will always be a better phone on the horizon.
You could just buy the Note2 now, sell it as soon as the Note3 comes out and you will have most of the Note3 paid for.
Lol at the sarcasm. Umm I recently got it and love every bit of it, and don't see any chance of regretting in the futures. I tend to regret if there are issues or anything I am unhappy with, but NONE so far

You never going to get anywhere playing the "waiting game" with Android.. most def with HTC.. HTC One X, V,S den One X+ and now a Droid DNA, HTC J Butterfly.. and a rumored HTC Deluxe aka GSM DNA
Its always going to be a better phone than the current version..
Lets say you wait another year... and the Note 3 doesn't have what you expected..

Get the Note 2. When you get bored, then get the Note 3. :victory:
if they do a note III. There might be something completely different in 12 months!
my personal opinion would be get note 2 now.
because its still new, holds value pretty well, but once we are in 2013, i would consider S4.
to be honest I change phone roughly every 2 years, and I just get the one that I will be happy with, that's future proof ish (eg. LTE) for 2 years.
Note 6 is the best! Full 1080p 3D screen, and the screen is FOLDABLE!
I'd wait!

Impressive trolling.
Do your research, make your mind up and stop expecting to be spoonfed. You give no info as to what your needs are, hence any advice from others is almost as pointless as your question.

Yes order the note 3 here,

Good luck & hope they make a good job of making it
i heard about the note 20 , it will include features such as teleportation, transoformation with a hit of a button, 100000mah battery 10 inch screen multiple quad cores in one and many other impressive features
Quad cores? Man who is your source? It has kilo-cores : 1024 cores

Took the note 2 out for a few weeks, we had a good time but ultimately she just wasn't a nexus.
Glad to be back!

dont get me wrong i love AOSP and the nexus series but if i had the note 2 i wouldnt come back to this phone... the n4 maybe, but defiantly not the gnex.. but to each their own, glad you are happy with the gnex :good:
I would agree i would stay with the note but am saving up to buy the note 3 and keep my unlimited data plan. Thanks Verizon.

The battery life on the note is why I kept it. I like everything else Berger on the gnex but that is worthless if I can't use it. I hung on to the Nexus to for ubuntu. Can't wait to try that out.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using tapatalk 2
Well the Nexus will be around for a while. The Note 2 probably won't see many more updates. So in a year, the Galaxy Nexus would still be hip and cool and hanging in there with the latest features of Android while the Note 2 was left behind.
While the idea of a Note (10") with pen features sound great, every time I go into a store to play with one, it sucks. The Pen feature is pretty far behind the actual stylus and while it works well, it doesn't work as good as it shows in the commercials (what does though). To me, the PEN is awesome even if just for a quick doodle or note once in a while... but the Note is just too small to really utilize the pen to its full potential and limits it to just small notes.
The 10.1" Note is cool but it feels sluggish and laggy for some reason. Perhaps it is loaded down with junk like all displays... or it is just sluggish. Personally a 5" is too small and a 10" is too big. If they had a 7" at an attractive price point, we'd probably be talking.
Usually threads like this make me smh, but since I am very curious about the Note2 (I want one) I went ahead and decided to see what you have to say..
I am disappoint.
What the hell was the point OP?!
I would have stayed with the note 2 until the next nexus comes out end of 2013, note 2 is clearly a better phone compared to the gnex, that would have been the most logical thing to do but each to their own.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Whaaaaaaat? with that amazing battery life and all?
the nexus is cool and all but whats the point of having a sh*tload of features if you can barely use them
with the note 2 thats not a problem but well to each their own i guess
im happy with my nexus but the battery life on the Gnote is to drool for(SPECIALLY compared to the nexus battery)

So you're saying that the Note 2 (which ships with 4.1 in case you forgot) won't get any updates? Let's not forget that the GS3 is coming up on a year old in a few months here and got Jelly Bean recently while the Note 2 was released less than 4 months ago. Both the GS3 and Note 2 are their best selling devices by a long shot, I find it hard to believe that they'd abandon updating it within a year, even with newer devices on the horizon.
Well at least with Verizon you'd be waiting 6 months for updates.

For most consumers I'm sure it's hardly a thought. There's no question that it's not at it's end of updates but even if it is, such a popular device is going to get community support. I mean, the Verizon GNote2 has been out for less than 2 months and it's already got a slew of roms and a good amount of development behind it.
Yes, it will eventually lose official support from Samsung/Verizon much like the Gnex will, but where would XDA be if Android wasn't the masterpiece it is today?
If the Note 2 was cheaper, I'd have it, as long as ROMs are chugging out for it.

I bought it as a tablet replacement and it is simply too small, so I found myself carrying a tablet and a 5.5in phone which seemed crazy. The battery life will be missed, but a fresh nexus is just as snappy 99% of the time.
I have my Note 2 overclocked to either 1.8 or 1.92 and still get over 48 hours per charge and have had 8 hours screen time more than once even with moderate use over the 48+ hours.
Oh yeah, a little birdie told me Codeworx just ordered his today thanks to some nice people that gave him some healthy donations. Its funny that is the first device where people aren't going crazy waiting for AOKP or a pure AOSP ROM because they don't want to lose features.. that being said, there are some great 3rd party apps to take the place of SPad etc.

I'm going to miss everyone here, the ROMs, the kernels and the pureness!
Getting my Xperia Z in a few days, felt it was time for a change and the nexus models(4) I don't think seems good enough to be the next nexus device. I hope I can eventually find a combo on the Z as good as Xenon and trinity on the gnex!
Peace out

[nexus 5][if yes then why?]

who are going to update to nexus 5 and why??
I have ordered one though
I'm going to get a Nexus 5 because the 1GB RAM isn't enough for what I'm doing with my phone. With multiple Tasker things, PIE control, Halo, Chrome, lots of constant music listening, Nova Launcher themeing, things keep getting killed, lagging my phone, and at times even rebooting. 4.3 helped, but the hardware limitation is still there. That, and my display is wearing out. I can see lines in many places. I won't dump my Galaxy Nexus, though. It'll become a test device to test the apps I'm developing.
Now all I'm waiting for is someone to let me buy one... Come on either Google, Amazon, or Best Buy!
i have bought nexus 5 because i was waiting for it for a couple of month and and my galaxy nexus is no where good in taking normal daily pictures so OIS + nexus that made me to fall in love with nexus 5
I'm buying because I chose last October to not to buy any phones until the next nexus generation phone came out. So I've been waiting too darn long for this phone to drop. But Google decided to be a pest this year with all the ****ery they decided to do to promote this phone. It's like having blue balls and although there's a chick laying there naked knowing you want it but just won't let you have it yet instead she flaunts the p***y in your face to show you how good you can expect it to be. :'( Google stop teasing just let me get in it already lol.

Samsung hasn't been real good on the update game for a while now, T-Mobile... ehh. The fact that it's finally is in the pipeline surprises me tbh. If it wasn't for my love for my note 2 I would be back on nexus devices... the battery on these phones, SD slot and screen size are just to nice to turn away from, been looking hard at the nexus 5 but still haven't been able to pull the trigger.

If it wasn't for my love for my note 2 I would be back on nexus devices... the battery on these phones, SD slot and screen size are just to nice to turn away from, been looking hard at the nexus 5 but still haven't been able to pull the trigger.

dont buy it. i bought it and sold it in 2 weeks and lost money and i could care less.
POS compared to the note 2 in every way. it was smooth as butter, other then that it sucked.

Not to go off topic, but what were the downsides if you don't mind me asking?

the screen was small, the camera sucked, the speaker was soooo low which was probably the worst part. lack of multiwindow was killing me and i missed my spen. AOSP is just too boring IMO.
also the front camera was a POS as well.
the only nice thing on the hardware side was the screen and the snapdragon 800 chip
