Question before buying - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm naturally inclined to initially get the gpe edition, but I was basing that on the assumption the custom roms would be compatible between it and the regular version.... That appears to be incorrect because all the roms are listing v500 only. I naturally assumed development would be stronger on the gpe edition. So basically I'm looking to replace me broken Nexus 7, and I want this tablet. Are there future limitations between the 2? The gpe is obviously easier to root/unlock, but that appears to be a non issue because the regular is unlocked too. I'm a total flash-a-holic and must have a "fun" tablet. Would really like to hear your opinions...

At the moment the v500 is getting all the love.
I've been testing a v510 ish rom for Demetris. The hurdle atm is to get wifi working.
I was originally a bit miffed when the US got the gpe and the UK didn't, but right now it was a good thing.
In time that could all change but for now I would have to say the v500 is the way to go.
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Premium HD app

If you read through the Roms for the 500, it seems that all of them have some sort of issues.
The gpe is great, no problems, easy to root and use xposed to tweak.
There is also a how to in the development section on flashing your own kernel to tweak it even more.
for instance I can now change the gamma coloring on my glad, and have set a different governors default. that was after 2 minutes of playing with the menu config file for the kernel. Custom Roms are overrated when you can do it yourself:good:

How have you changed gamma? Is there a kernel for the v500 where gamma can be adjusted

I wrote a tutorial for the g pad g510 (gpe) edition on compiling your own kernel. This sounds more compicated than it is.
On the second post of the thread I show where the setting is in the menuconfig for the kernel. This guide works without issue. I only changed a couple of items in mine, one of them being the gamma adjustment option.
Hoping others will take an interest! Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628951
For the 510, anybody could compile their own kernel to share for the gpad so long as they list their changes etc...

Can one do this for the 500

I would think that you could do everything but flash it back on to your device using my guide. This is because I use flashboot to push it to my device and apparently this cannot be done on the 500. However, you can definitely get the boot.emmc.win image ready to go.

I wanted a V510 but I'm in the UK and settled for a V500. Glad I did. There are numerous 4.4 ROMs but I actually prefer the LG skin and apps (in particular, Qpair is nice (once you get it working)).

Tnx a lot
They look the same. Psx and cm are more customizable. Looking at the cm thread, seems they are not getting the best battery life. But on psx it is amazing. On any other rom EVER i have never gotten battery life this good.

Dang... No matter what I try, I can't get any network signal with PSX on my F180S. Tried settings and steps recommended by @davevinci to no avail. Also tried experimenting with some different values for those build.prop items related to the modem/RIL/network after reviewing and comparing build.prop files from ROMs that work for me. Nothing seems to do the trick. Looks like I am out of luck, at least for now... Reverted to 4.1.2, which works perfectly.
I am curious, did anyone with a Korean F180x (not E97x!) in Canada or in the US actually make any 4.4 ROM work (not just PSX, but anything)? For some reason, nothing but stock-based ROMS seems to work for me so far. Not a big deal, as I am pretty happy with stock at the moment, but would like to see it working properly on my phone...

Yeah, I can see you are in Philippines. I was looking for someone local here just to make sure we are dealing with the same networks and freq. bands.
The phone says "No Service", no matter what. I did a bit of research on the build.prop lines that you are referencing, and tried changing them to different values (your settings seem to be for CDMA with LTE only), but nothing worked so far. For the time being, I am giving up experiments, unless someone with the same phone on Canadian or American GSM carrier can tell me what exactly they did to make it work.
Like I said, it's not a big deal -- I am not desperately trying to make 4.4 work, but rather just curious about it...

Looks like you added this question later, I didn't see it when I responded... Actually, I tried both. First, I just made changes and rebooted. But later, every time I made a change to a build.prop, I updated it in the zip package, and did a new flash every time after a full wipe.

Oppo N1 CM version ordered

So I just ordered the limited CM edition of the Oppo N1, to replace this Xperia Z(with its busted camera) It comes with a really cool CM cyan colored case, and some CM stickers.
Only thing is that the CM version is only available in the 16gb flavor, which i kind of regret ordering cause i prefer to have at least 32gb of space.
Also there doesnt seem to be too much activity in these fourms yet. (The phone is still really new so its to be expected) But do you guys think there will be a lot of custom ROM development for this phone? installing custom roms is another reason i bought this phone, since my current android has a locked bootloader.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
If any of the major carriers picks up the N1, I'm sure that we'll see a lot of attention here because of having official CM.
This should being a lot of devs to the phone though, just because of how open to development the phone is. I hope to see it really take off and be made into something really great.
I don't really know about custom roms though. We already have official CM and Omnirom. Then there's Oppo's ColorOS which is pretty good already. I think all that we'll really see is modifications to those environments, but nothing really unique (I hope I'm wrong about that). Only time will tell though.

Chance of any major carrier in the US picking up the N1 are slim to none - just because US carriers SUCK.
Thanks to Oppo's cooperation with the community, there's going to be much better support from custom firmwares than with most other devices.
A lot of the activity is over on oppoforums - While I usually prefer to keep all of my work on XDA and don't bother with any other sites, oppoforums is the exception as they are the official forums of the manufacturer (they are not just random fan forums) and as Oppo has been so supportive of many of us, quite a few developers spend lots of time there. (Maxwen himself only maintains threads there these days.)
I would at least like to think that the US carriers would take an example from oppo and embrace what a lot of the devs here are doing. It would also be nice to see some of the phone makers keep their boot loaders un locked as well. But wish in one hand....

Yeah that's not going to happen. Out of the major carriers Verizon has been the ballsy one to release a developer phone with unlocked bootlooaders. They don't release devices because they don't want to have to send out warranty replacements for people who brick devices.

You forget that they only did that because they were forcing devices from OEMs that previously had never locked their devices to lock them down.
AT&T also is now forcing bootloader locking - and as a result HTC now offers the GPe and Dev Edition One units. T-Mobile is forcing Sony to lock down the T-Mobile Xperia Z (not very "uncarrier" of them...). Unlike VZW, HTC can do it directly for people on AT&T and T-Mo since both carriers are GSM - stick your SIM into an unlocked device and go, as opposed to Verizon who make it a nightmare to activate non-VZW devices.
People on GSM providers are lucky in that they can purchase unlocked devices and use them. (N1 plus Straight Talk would be a great combo.)

Best thing about this phone that no one really mentioned yet is that the phone doesnt get hot the way my other phones have duribg extensive gaming sessions. Love the battery life so far.

[Q] Out of the Rom game for awhile

Hi All,
I haven't tweaked anything lately, due to a a very busy work schedule (which I can hopefully share a new app that'll be released fairly soon with all of you, here's a link http://www.yondermusic.com/)
However, I was wondering what's been lacking in the dev community? Looks like you have plenty of Roms, but I've provided a poll in the top to see where I can try to contribute. The LG Optimus G was the first phone I've contributed on, and I'll like to do that again.
Thanks,
Adriel

[ZIP][LGD/JDI] G2PanelSwap - Fix screen issues on the fly!

Hai. Many of you know that LG uses 2 panel variants in the G2, LGD and JDI. KitKat based kernels need to be released as 2 seperate zips for each panel.
That sucks, so I made this zip you can flash in recovery to convert whatever kernel you have installed to the alternate panel variant. LGD -> JDI, or JDI -> LGD.
This works on both stock and aosp. So don't worry about ramdisks, let me worry about blank.
JDI users should probably keep this zip on their phone so when they flash a new ROM, they can follow it with this, and you're all good to go.
Enjoy!

Edit- I don't have links, as I don't remember everywhere I went to make sure I understood what I was doing before diving in. Also, on mobile, at work...

I'm using fulmics 2.1 and it's even better than cloudy. It's multi variant also. Check it out in the general g3 development page
I'm on fulmics.
