4g test device ???? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello all. I been on the forums a long time but never needed to post until now.
I just bought a HTC One from Gazelle and when I was on the phone with Verizon activating it, the rep asked me to verify that I had the right imei numbers. He stated to me (and it shows on my Verizon page) that it is a "4G TEST DEVICE " Sure enough when I went to the apps page I see apps for:
Dev Tools
Google Settings
HTC SSD Test Tool
Power Usage Reporter
PVS Info
RxD Test QMI
User Trial Feedback
Before buying this I knew I wanted to flash to the HTC One developer Edition. But at this point I am not sure if I should take any special things into mind as this is a Verizon test/development phone. I am content to use it as it is except it won't let me update to the latest builds for the phone. It is running software 1.09.90605.6 which if I understand correctly is a old version. Does anyone have advice? Do you think and of the rom cooks would like a dump from this rare find?
Thanks all

Well I want to flash this to the developer version, but before I do it I wanted to see if any of the rom devs wanted to capture the current image from the system before I do as I don't know how valuable this phone stuff is in its current state. (remembers back when the first android equip dev hp touchpad landed in the hands of the public on accident)

Definitely. There's a bunch of debug tools and hidden APKs cut out from the final release builds that can give us more insight into the radio hardware, for example.

I would ask around, maybe sonic would know.

off topic, im Curious how was the condition of the phone? I almost bought a phone from them but was a little leary

Being that no one showed much interest and was running a pre release version and couldn't update to the Verizon kitkat rom, I have to wipe the whole phone clean. To the point that I bricked the phone and I had to use fastboot command in recovery to flash the stock Verizon rom before I could update. Needless to say I was up in the wee hours of the morning doing this.
The phone had nicks, on the aluminum casing and there was a small deep scratch in the middle but considering this phone was probably used a lot in a test lab its in pretty good shape.

I purchased a Galaxy S3 from a local rep that shows to verizon as a 4g test device also. It has been this way since i got it approximately 2 years ago. It also has a similar stamp on the front face as yours showing which test device number it was.

HTC announced NO MORE to LOCKING BOOTLOADER

For those that didn't get the news...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/htc-officially-dissolves-locked-bootlader-policy/
http://www.facebook.com/HTC/posts/10150307320018084
They just announced that they won't be locking the bootloaders anymore... now give us a way to S-OFF our phones...
this is a really great move. i'm super excited about them doing this.
however, will they unlock the inc2 bootloader through an ota update or something? or will it only be for new phones, i really hope we get it for s-off
Yes, now if they will just make that policy retroactive...
Someone send an email to HTC asking if it will cover the dinc2. I've seen people on the EVO 3d forums receiving answers.

I have no evidence of this, but if HTC has agreed that already released hardware with locked loaders (EVO 3D) will get unlocked, my guess is all locked devices will get the same treatment.
Good question, Ted. We definately understand the concern regarding the phones with bootloaders that are currently locked. At this point in time, we don't have any information on if and how existing locked bootloaders will be unlocked. Though, once we reach a decision and plan regarding the currently locked phones, we'll definately announce this through our website, as well as Facebook & Twitter, as well. Stay tuned; we'll definately let you know, as soon as the information becomes available.
I asked and this is what they said. So I guess they don't know or don't want to tell me?

I'm a bit nervous because I received a personal email response high up from HTC (The CEO) just a few hours after I sent an email ranting about the locking down of their devices. I followed up with a question about devices that have already been shipped, and if they would be unlocked with future OTA updates.
I received no answer, so then I emailed them again asking the same question with more "detail" and still no response. I then called their North America headquarters inquiring about the same thing—nobody had an answer there either.
I hope they do the right thing—I don't have insurance on this phone, but if the policy isn't retroactive, and it is only for new devices, I'm sure I can get this thing returned due to my "special" customer service interactions.
And by "special," I mean super *****y and aggressive. LOL. This thing is riddled with bugs that you can easily use to your advantage if you want to return it, even if you don't have insurance, or if you are past the 14 day window.
Move to proper forum.

Ill bet that decision changes too. It doesn't look at all official there so we still have hope.
Yup...Tapatalk'd
I would highly recommend that rooting efforts continue. I would be (pleasantly) surprised if unlocking happens. Keep in mind that public postings from the CEO like the one on Facebook are put together by their PR, not the CEO himself, and they specially craft their comments, meaning "unlock" was not mentioned and probably won't happen.
As far as I've seen, HTC has been quite active answering questions about this except for the ones that involve currently locked devices.

I think (or at least I hope) that this means that they just haven't made that decision yet, as opposed to the possibility that they have made the decision to not unlock the bootloader but don't want to say that at this time. I think that decisions like this involving currently carrier-locked phones involve more than just HTC, and Verizon likely has a large say in the matter. (Because unlocking the bootloader is the first step to unlocking the radio which Verizon certainly doesn't want)
If I were a little more curious than I am right now, I might contact Verizon and see what they have to say about it.

[Q] Unique Problem With SGH-T989 Galaxy S II! Need Expert Advice!

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II T989 off of craigslist. It was described as Brand New, and came with box and all original accessories, etc. Still had screen protectors and everything on it, so i assumed i would have no problems. I am using AT&T and wanting to unlock it so that i wouldn't have to switch carriers. I paid a pretty reputable website 25$ for the unlock code, which i received and entered as directed.
I attempted to enter my SIM and i get an invalid SIM message. I called Samsung to figure it out and they had me send them the phone. They received it and inspected it to ensure nothing was wrong. They then tested the IMEI which came back as a black-listed phone, but would not disclose the reason.
So t-mobile will offer me no help what so ever, nor will samsung. I try calling the *#7465625# number to test if the phone is unlocked, but i get an error message stating "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and i have only one option which is force quit. I used the factory reset option a couple times to see if this helped at all, and got nothing.
I only have experience with iphones, so i really know nothing about the android OS. I've heard a lot about "rooting" and such for the unlock but it's like a whole different language for me. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. This phone has just been sitting in my drawer for the past month because i have absolutely no idea what to do.
Sounds to me like you may have bought a phone that someone perhaps filled an insurance claim on. I know I had a phone taken once and filed a claim on it and got a new one, eventually got the old one back and when a friend took it in it was taken on the spot. This may or may not be the case.
Yup sounds like someone bought a phone, Reported it lost,Kept the replacement, and sold you the stolen one. The same thing happened to me about a year ago with a HTC G2 from craigslist. You could try rooting (really not as scary as it seems) putting a new ROM then try to unlock again
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
That is what i'm assuming the case is. I've heard of friends and such running into the problem, but never thought i would fall victim to it.
Do you know where i might be able to find a rooting guide for a complete noob like myself? Step by step in depth kind of stuff? Would the fact that the phone is blacklisted cause me to get the error i'm getting whenever i try to test the unlock? Is it possible to unlock the phone for another GSM carrier even though it is blacklisted with t-mobile.
Explore all the options of getting your money back. If no good, you can always try to get someone to chqnge the imei for you, beware tho, its same illegal as changing vin plate on a car. Theoretically noone will help you, but practically, there are plenty shops selling nintendo cardridges with 100 original games in one...

You cannot ask on here how to fix this problem. It is against the rules, and illegal. This thread will be closed.. Just saying.
Ebay it with bad efs in the title, sell for parts, will probably get a coupe hundred for it. Don't buy a phone off frauds list unless you meet them at the retail store and have the number ran. At least then if they report it stolen you have some record of the transaction and may be able to get it UN black listed. Crappy situation that is for sure.

As stated, the course of action you were proposing is illegal and therefore discussing it on the forum will not be tolerated.

[VZW]Verizon Updates Droid X (9/13/13)

My first droid was a Motorola Droid X. Moved on to the X2 and then the nexus. I'm not 100% positive, but I think the X came out in 2010. Both the X and X2 were EOL by VZW pretty quickly. Which I thought was odd especially since the X2 was the first dual core phone if memory serves me correctly.
Anyways my dad was telling me he got notified about a system update today. I told him there was no freaking way Verizon sent an OTA to his phone. So it was booting and when it booted back up I saw that message. (Picture attached.)
So the Droid X just got what looks to be an OTA kernel update. I honestly never thought that phone would see any kind of OTA, ever again.
So what do you think this means as far as an official 4.3 or possibly KitKat OTA from Big Red for our phones? I posted a topic in that phones forum, but I figured I would post it here and see what you guys thought about it and if it means maybe we will get an update. Just something to discuss. If I'm breaking the rules mods feel free to lock this.

I don't think this belongs in the Galaxy Nexus forum for one, but there's absolutely no way it's even a 4.3 update, much less Kitkat.
Motorola long ago confirmed it wouldn't even get ICS, correct? Motorola during that time had a terrible habit of releasing phones that were practically EOL'd at launch (I know, I own a Droid 2 Global).
I can say with 99.9% certainty it's probably a small patch that does something like close exploits.
Yeah that's about all it does. Looks like it's a couple days old, too. Just got pushed to my dads phone today is all.
I just posted this here because our phone really wasn't updated that long ago by Verizon but a lot of forum members I see in different topics seem doubtful the Verizon nexus will ever see 4.3, let alone KitKit. I understand we're talking about kernel exploit patches vs operating systems here, but if they'll update a phone that old (just a patch or not) is there maybe hope they are working on our phone still? Maybe just wishful thinking? :/

Well, it would be on Motorola and Google to make the updates for the Droid X2 and the Galaxy Nexus, respectively. Verizon's only part is in their "extensive testing" that delays everything to ensure phones aren't doing something to screw with their network (but of course, Apple is exempt from these testing regulations, I guess they're somehow more trustworthy than Google).
So, it's not really Verizon potentially updating the Galaxy Nexus, it's Verizon accepting and pushing out Google's update (hypothetically- we don't know if they will bother updating the toro devices to 4.3+ or not).
This means that Motorola would have to make an update and submit it to Verizon, and considering they have already said the device will not be updated past Gingerbread, I don't think that will happen.
That's why I really only advocate getting onto a GSM carrier and buying an unlocked Nexus device from Google to anyone I know who expects timely Android updates.
The Verizon galaxy nexus will eventually be updated. Likely after the next update so WiFi auto connect isn't broken. Right now it is and that's a major issue.

Replacement phone modified?

I just got an I there s4 from tmobile because my charger port was loose. The new s4 is on mk2 modem and 4.3 bootloader. If I hit update software in the settings I get 'your phone is modified and cannot get updates' . I haven't even installed a single app yet. Should I return this one too?

It's a refurbished phone that the factory didn't wipe properly. It had been rooted and the factory just did a full wipe. (Someone got lazy)
If it's on 4.3 it's probably got the Knox bootloader, meaning you can't just Odin it back to stock and make it like nothing happened. You can check this by booting into download mode (power and volume down) and seeing if it says it in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Personally though, since you just got the phone and it's clearly not been properly refurbished, I'd send it back. Even if you can fix the software issue there is obviously something wrong with it because someone has already sent it back and you know it wasn't properly refurbished. So you might run into another problem later.
I'd tell T Mobile to send you a new one, and make it clear that you're not going to pay the $20 for shipping since they sent you a broken phone.

Thanks man, took your advice and they are sending another free of charge. I never knew they sent refurb phones back if your new one breaks. Always thought they sent brand new phones. I guess that's why they only send the phone with no battery or back cover.

Yup. And you're going to get another refurb too to replace that last one.
The easy was to tell is the label under the battery. If it's a new phone the label looks like this...

If it's a refurbished phone the label is different. It's a little thinner as I recall. (Sorry, I couldnt' find a picture of one.)
The refurb facility is not the manufacturing plant so they have slightly different stickers.
Usually the refurbs are fine. I wouldn't worry about getting the next one. I had a refurbed S4 for a while and it was better than the new one I had originally. (It didn't survive being dropped onto the granite sink in my bathroom, then subsequently the tile floor. But it was better before that!)
You just got a bad one from a lazy worker at the refurb place who didn't do a thorough job. As soon as you get the new one though test it thoroughly. Make sure every system works. Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, GSM, every spot on teh touchscreen, etc etc etc

Moto z play has no data on att

Got my new unlocked moto z play today. Went to the AT&T store to get a new sim. Had a micro needed a nano. Anyway did this during my lunch hour, they activated my phone and I left. Later on noticed I had no internet. The data icon showed a question mark. I called support an after an hour they stated my phone is not compatable with there system. I have phone and text, but no data. The phone is being marketed as AT&T compatable. After going to the moto site they have an area that states the phone may not be compatable with all services that AT&T has. I find it hard that they would exclude data.
Anyone else with this issue?
Funny enough I also have no data. However my issue started when I tried to root, and ended up having to flash a boot.img from another variant to even boot anymore. You can check to see if your APN's are set up correctly, or if you have any. Before all of this though, I had data working fine.
Seems like ATT says any unlocked phone is not compatible, or they send you the wrong SIM in the mail. Like was said before, check that you have an Access Point Name setup. I always have to with unlocked phones.
Well it seems it was the APN, damn spent an hour with a tech and the didn't know that. You would think after checking to see that the sim matches there account that would be next. Thanks all for your help. Love the phone would have hated to return it.
Tech support for most companies are useless. They read off of a list of things that could be wrong. Passed that list they have hardly any technical knowledge. 99% of the time you're better off coming here with questions...

Fixed the link. The APN settings are correct, but my problem is from software corruption of some kind. I just have to wait until the RETUS stock firmware gets released...
