i Know it is a known Issue but the Workaround Published by FP doesnt work sometimes.

Some users have experienced crashes with the camera app after the software update to Fairphone OS Caju (v.1.1). This is solved by Clearing the Cache of the app and restart the phone.

but sometimes you have to shut down the Phone, take out the battery, wait alt least 1min ant start again.
as this Issue may occur again after this qick & Dirty workaround, there should be a real solution by FP!
flashlight app causes camera problem
I had the same problem. In the FP forum I found, that some flashlight apps makes problems. I uninstalled mine flashlight and I never had problems using the camera any more.

Hi all, I've got my Arc for two weeks, it seems that sometimes the camera is not available when I launch the application. It always happen when the accelerometer doesn't work. It works fine again when I reboot the phone.
Anyone else got this issue? Do I have to repair via SEUS or there is another way around?

Nope, I used the camera many times and not even once I saw this issue. It's best to do a repair firmware to rule out that it's not a software issue. Once done and you are facing the problem, then it could be the hardware faulty and you need to bring the phone to service centre for repair.

I am having exactly the same issue. Had phone 2 days now and many unstable aspects from day 1 and ongoing.
Camera is sometimes 'not available' - interestingly at the same time other things don't work such as the accelerometer.
Phone reboots randomly by itself including during phone calls.
Items downloaded from market disappear .
I am returning it and hoping for a replacement as I do not want a 'repaired' phone after paying so much.
Also should note I have made no changes to the phone at all - this is 'as delivered'
I had this happen a couple of times. When it does I just go to the app manager and force stop the camera app. It should work again after that.
Never had the problem with camera not being available... although most times my photos dont work... its like a black broken image icon that shows instead...

Thanks - Your problem must be different, as this solution does not work for me.The app manager does not show the camera as running, so no force close option is available.
Only way to get the camera to function when the phone is in this 'camera not available' mode is to reboot. Every time the camera is not available the accelerometer stops working as well - again a reboot is required to fix this

I have the same problem. The camera app fails to launch. I long press camera button and get the haptic feedback but nothing happens.
for me it's just the shutter button
never had this problem
but my camera doesn't activate when i press the shutter.
any ideas?
ps: i have vignette demo and fxcamera installed
pps: the arc camera is brilliantly EXCELLENT (coming from a G1)
ppps: the shutter button is terribly stiff
had the same problem but SEUS fix it for me by reflashing the firmware.
The phone should be awake when you press on camera button inorder the camera app to launch

Camera stays on after been used, i think its not possible to quit it with adv task killer, so i downloaded app "fast reboot pro" so test it when u get it back, and it also works with apps, i have seen that issue few times, just click to reboot and it will be good.
just a thought or two..
have you try resetting or calibrating those sensor?
or do you have any app that totally disabled rotation (not just simple rotate toogle)?

Sadly i have same problem and some times i get camera not available .I am using 4k and slowmo fix.I wonder if thats the case
No, it's not a problem with the mods you're using. I have the same issues with the standard firmware without any mods applied.
Hoping for an update soon to fix these issues.
Don't update to .108 but wipe the system and flash it from scratch.
Try removing sd card and see.My problems went away (delay,stuck etc) after replacing sd card (64g sandisk ultra) back to a g.skill 32g works like charm.
That is normal,since kitkat we all have problem's with camera,there is memory problem i hope sony will fix this soon...
Hadn't any problem with mine so far, also upgraded to .108 via OTA.

I have been able to fix this issue on two Z1C phones using the following steps:
Reboot into safe mode
Clear Data and Cache for all camera apps and services
Turn off "Touch anywhere to capture" in camera settings
Uninstall SnapChat
Uninstall Skype
Reboot and voila!
Various reports online suggested that Skype and Snapchat are causing the Z1C issues, combined with the Touch Anywhere to capture feature.
This should fix your problems - although Sony still have to actually fix the firmware so that you don't have to do that
Doesn't work for me but its a problem of the camera somethimes i do photos with the Google camera and somethimes after i take the foto it freeze the app for 10 second or forever

the initial press from a fresh bootup is slow to open the camera app.
Afterwards its super quick.

I noticed yesterday when attempting to use the front facing camera that I get only a black screen, the camera app switches back to rear camera for a moment, then the app closes.
I am not sure when this became an issue as I'm not a selfie kind of guy. The rear camera continues to function just fine.
I have tried the following fixes
wipe data in the camera app
wipe user data
uninstall / reinstall camera update
boot into safe mode
uninstall / reinstall app that utilize the camera
None of the "fixes" have resolved the problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to head next?
Phone is S-Off, unlocked, rooted, and running the latest stock ROM.
Should I just say f-it and try a different ROM?

Update: I flashed LeeDroid ROM this morning and the front facing camera is still not working. Looks like it could be a hardware issue...

yah, that's what it looks like. hope you have warranty.
I have the same issue. Previously when I pressed the swirly-arrows button it tried to switch then locked up and wouldn't do anything until I restarted. Now when I press the button it just spins around and nothing happens. I used catlog reader to find some errors being logged. I posted a thread about it if you're interested.

Yes i had the same problem. After factory reset it went better. But its not a good camera app. I hope the problem is software relatied. So that they van solve this.

Every other app i used. Start hanging of stops working random. So i dont know
Having a real hard time with the camera. It gets laggy at random intervals. Specially problematic with 3rd party apps (whatsapp; Instagram; snapchat). Seems like a software issue. But I maybe wrong.

Try factory reset it helps

I am using Android Oreo 8.1.0 TA-1089. Whenever I invoke paytm app, the camera and the phone just freeze and unresponsive. After a while the phone behaves normally. If I restart the app one or two times, it eventually works normally. The clearing of cache has not solved the problem.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

It depends on apps and memory usage.try Factory reset. And download open camera from Playstore. Or another version Nokia camera. If that' not helps send It for repairs.

Had the same problem , cleared data and rebooted the phone
Its currently works ok , it lags but freeze is gone
Recently the phone is freezing and lagging while using cam in Instagram or WhatsApp

Thanks for your inputs. I am currently using open camera from Playstore with the hope that the problem gets resolved. It hasn't helped me. Even tried Google camera port in the process. Apart from that I stopped all the other apps as a way of releasing memory and cpu load. Since it didn't work even then, I did factory reset. It worked momentarily. The problem has resurfaced after a while.
Not sure if others have experienced a similar problem. Will try other camera apps as you suggested.

Does the problem resurface after reset without installing apps. If no it is the apps You install in combination with the memory management. I would send It back to Nokia then.
