[Q] Car Mount - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi All,
I'm looking for a mount for my car, preferably without the window sucker...I hate those!! A mount for the dash would be ideal? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a Mountek, it utilized the cd player's slot. If you use your cd player a lot, it might not be the mount for you.(does not interfere with the playing of the cd itself).

I agree with the above. I've been using this one for about 2 years and love it!

It does use a suction cup but it comes with a disc which you can mount to your dash and then attach the mount to. Great features and app. Love mine!

Thanks for the suggestions but I haven't got a CD player in my car, its a new media system car. Do you have the link to the Mountek website as I wanna check it out anyway incase they have any more mounts? I just came across a mount called the breffo spiderpodium which looks pretty creepy but awesome at the same time. Deciding whether to give it a go, some good reviews around the web.

I use the Tetrax X-way mount. You attach a small metal button to the back of your phone/case and then you attach the holder to you dash vents.

ProClip Car Mount (video)

I recently got my powered ProClip car mount for my Thunderbolt, and I posted a video of it on YouTube. Here it is in case you're wondering whether this is the right car mount for you.

looks nice but the Verizon mount only costs 33.00 on amazon

not talking bad about the mount Proclip, just saying the Verizon one is good and cheaper and with gas prices... well you know

Agreed. It's actually only $29.99 at the VZW store. However, the OEM mount doesn't allow for an extended battery, and the phone recognizes the charger as USB so it's hella slow when charging. It's an alternative, but not a good one - I returned mine.
Slow charging
Thats one of the biggest Problem the thing with the horrible slow chargingtimes. When i want to charge my phone and i dont have much time lets say about 15 minutes and i charge it i want at least 10 percent battery and not just 1 =)

That's a function of the charger you use, not the mount. The mount just does a passthrough.

agreed, my mini-usb charger just charges. plus i looked at the location for the Scion TC from proClip and it is in a very bad spot. you have to look down to see where your going.
i got this sand bag sand, that has a flat plastic area, the VZW stand sticks to it like champion, plus that stand i got from big-o-lots for $10, it does not move or vibrate. I'll up load a pic of it later.

The charger i used works fine when plugged directly into the phone and it recognizes it as an ac charger. However, when using as a pass through with the iGrip dock it didn't work/showed as USB. Ymmv.
i got a question for ya..
i already have the car mount and i just suction cup whatever i use to it. on the mount for the phone that has the 4 screw holes.. is that attached to the rest of the mount via a tilt/swivel ball joint?
cuz what id do is attach a ball mount suction cup to the TB mount and then obviously suction cup it to the car mount. no screwing anything in and it allows you to use one car mount for almost every device u have.

Nevermind, I just realized this link is the same product as the retail Verizon sells.
looks cool but pretty expensive for both pieces. probably gonna go with that amazon deal on the suction mount for now
ok so after watching this video I had to try this product out. I have a Arkon with charger now, the only I don't like about the Arkon is that it is a charger with the phone holder attached. So it does wiggle a little when driving. I bought the proclip last week and got it on Saturday. Let me say it is night and day difference from the Arkon. It is solid and doesn't wiggle when driving. If you have the money I would say go for it.
Will this work with a Verizon skin?

i have the case mate barely there and it works with that. I also have the case and clip from bestbuy which does not work.
Don't think I noticed this in your video but can this mount turn the phone landscape?
I can never get the suction cup to stay on in this South Texas heat.

Yes it can.
Any way to set up this clip with a suction cup to mount to the windshield? Have the Droid 1 VZW dock and a factory Garmin nuvi 200 mount sitting around.

They sell several different adapters. If your mount would work with one of these then it should be fine.

DIY "proclip" style mount for $10 total
Thought you guys might want to see this. Much cheaper than proclip and just as effective.

Is the aux-in hole sized large enough to accommodate larger audio cables comfortably?

Which car mount should I get?

I have a drop low car that if you go through train track it will bump you off your seat. So I need a car mount that will have the least vibration. Here are two I found on ebay. If any of you have purchase one or other please give a brief description of your experience.
1: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-GUN...070739?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3379e03c53

ProClip. They have the most solid mount system I have ever used.
Sent from my SPH-L710
I pre-ordered two of these: iBolt Galaxy S III Charging Dock
For a completely vibration free driving experience the ROK Solid mount is included, featuring a strong 70 mm suction cup. Attach to windshield, or use the included disc to place on dashboard. A ball-joint connector system allows the driver to adjust to almost any viewing angle. The female ball connector is an “industry standard” 17 mm size, allowing any dash, vent or bike mount designed for Garmin to work with the cradle as an alternative to the suction mount.

+1 for ProClip. I find mine rock solid, and it is better located in my car than a suction cup or CD mount would be. The big con is that it's likely the most expensive mount on the market. Still, I'm glad I went with it.
I'm going to be going with the ProClip once I get my phone for both myself and my fiancee. It looks like it's great and will fit both of our cars. I still have my old suction cup mount that I've been using for a couple years now that I think would work well enough when I want to do dashcam stuff.
I just received my ProClip mount last week and it is quality as usual. I've had them for at least five different devices, so I knew what to expect. I got the one that is wired for power, very convenient.
Does the proclip offer a landscape mounting option?
I have just bought the Samsung car dock. While some may say its not a well built as say the proclip ones. My logic is, should the dock fail, i can at least say Samsung it was your dock that failed. The samsung dock seems very good tho and has performed well on the bad roads i have near me.
I got a universal mount from DX (SKU 81246 if the link does not work). It works well and was inexpensive. That being said, I had the Samsung mount for my Fascinate which would put the phone into car mount mode when you plugged it into the micro-USB which IMHO is superior to any of the universal mounts in many ways. Anybody know if Samsung will be releasing a mount like this for the S3?

I have the powered ProClip dock that plugs into the socket on my dash (not the one you have to wire in). Mine holds my phone tightly enough to use in landscape, and that is how I keep it. I slide the phone in and out from the right side, and it works great.
I am using the iOttie mount and it is perfect. Easy to setup and move if needed and the phone sits securely inside. You can do landscape or portrait mode for your phone.
Not a powered solution however.

19.99 (and Prime) here at Amazon.
I'm working on a rear view mirror mount for the SGS3 (and others)
works great and keeps the phone out of driving view while keeping it where the eyes can see it.
I will post pictures later for anyone interested.

It is a tilt/swivel mount so you can have it either landscape or portrait. I keep mine in portrait but I have tried it landscape and it was still very solid.
iBOLT dock with car mode & integrated 9 ft cable...
Our iBOLT Dock (www.ibolt.co/ibpf-33307) works the same way as the old S2 car dock. It puts the phone into car mode (sVoice) but you can download the CarHome Ultra and this application will install itself as the default app opening when inserted into the Dock if you want. With CarHome you can drag and drop apps, short numbers or just about anything to your car home screen.
The dock also comes with a 9ft (yes, 2.7 meters!) long charging/aux-out cable. This allows you to place the Car Dock on the left side of the steering wheel and tuck the cable down the drivers door, under the carpet and up to the center console for USB charging and 3.5 aux-in. The home screen also turn horizontal. Look the video and see if this is an option... Feel free to contact us and ask questions.

Anybody try the ebay car mounts?

Was curious if anybody has tried the cheap car mounts on ebay. I can't post links but they are model specific and around $6. There is one for the Inc2 and a slightly different one for the IncS.
If you wanted to search for them on ebay the titles are:
FOR HTC Droid Incredible 2 CAR MOUNT CRADLE HOLDER dock
Car Mount Holder Cradle For HTC Incredible S G11
I've been thinking about getting one to see if it is total garbage or not and thought maybe somebody else has already done that.

It should work just fine if you are not using a protective case on your DI2 - however, I do not like using these windshield mount, like GPS mount, as it's an open invitation for someone to break car windows looking for something of value in a grab & run.
I got something similar but a generic one with A/C vent mounting - horizontal style for a few dollars off eBay, great when using Google Map/Nav. on the go - the old Garmin has long retired even w. 2 updates.

I would throw the mount in the glove box when not in use. Was thinking about trying one of those bean bag things that just sit on the dash. Seems a lot easier than trying to undo the suction cup or the vent mount all the time.

Hello,
I (still) can't post link here, but open eBay and type the following item number in the search bar:
251162118918 or just search for 'VICE Car Mount Smartphone'.
Been using it for over 2 years now (and in a hot environment), does the job very well.

Thanks it will help me too
After going through many car mounts that broke, who knew the cheapest would be the greatest. If you're in the UK, go to poundworld (not poundland) and grab the sticky mount they've got. it has a gel like material that sticks to the back of your phone and can be renewed just by washing it. The mount is like 360 degrees rotation and is very flexible. it can be fixed both to the windscreen or dashboard using the included fixing disk.

need some opinions on dash mounts

As the title says, I am looking for a good dash mount for my 2013 Nexus 7. I want to get one that goes into the CD slot for my BMW 135I. The following is what I have come up with. Please let me know if you have experience with any of these, or if there are any others that might be better. Thanks in advance for your help!!
Air Dock w/ CD mount- http://www.theairdock.com/collections/all/products/air-dock-2-0
Ppyple universal w/ CD mount- http://www.amazon.com/Ppyple-Univer...p/B00C31MF0W/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
Satechi universal w/ CD mount- http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Universal-Samsung-Microsoft-Surface/dp/B00II8JDRM
Mountek Snap w/ CD mount- http://www.mountek.com/shop/categor...ell-phones-smartphones-phablets-plus-tablets/
Mountek nGroove Snap 3 w/ CD mount- http://www.mountek.com/shop/categor...multi-use-car-mount-smartphones-and-phablets/
Not sure the difference between the two Mountek models. I really like the Mountek and Air Dock styles that use magnets to secure the device, but I am not opposed to the universal style as long as they work well.
I've got the smaller version of that Satechi in my car and it's pretty nice. It does seem to have a small amount of bounce to it but it's not bad. I am thinking about getting the tablet size for my Jeep to basically replace the factory radio.
