Pie controls for 4.4 planned? - Paranoid Android Q&A

Hey there, I was wondering if pie controls are currently on your agenda.
It is the feature that I really miss since updating to kitkat.
I looked into your Gerrit and there seems to be no patch being worked on, so I was wondering if it is still planed?
Thank you

Hi. If you miss pie controls, you can download lmt launcher. Its an apk that acts as pie control.

You can try Gravity box from the xposed frameworks installer.

Yay, downloaded the latest Beta 2 and it is very nice. Thank You.
I wish though, that the trigger area was way bigger (the whole side would be best)
and that it is possible to trigger pie from more than one side at a time, that would be especially beneficial on tablets.
Any chance these features will be added in the future?
btw; i couldn't find the Pie-Patch in the gerrit, would someone mind linking it for me?

Morning Matey
Pie is as yet, not open source . So this is why your unable to locate it.
ⓐⓝⓓⓡⓞⓒⓛⓓⓔ ⓘⓢ ⓝⓞⓣ ⓐ ⓢⓘⓝ

I really hope we get the same customisability for PIE. The position, size, gap etc. defaults are just not comfortable on a Nexus 7. Also, this whole swiping down twice to access notifications and tiles is just silly in my personal opinion.

Is anybody else annoyed at the 4.2 quick settings not all being real toggles?

A LINK to the setting page of bluetooth or Wifi instead of a toggle? Have the AOSP team no idea what is going on in the custom ROM world? Do they not see anything the community has done? You'd think that Android would adopt everything of use from custom ROMs and yet, when we think they're finally doing things right, they botch it up with a half-assed solution like a LINK to the Wifi settings instead of a toggle. Amazing.
Just had to rant. What an infuriating development. Makes me think the AOSP team is starting to rest on their laurels like the iOS team has been doing for years now.
And don't get me started on how the lockscreen widgets aren't as secure as they should be.
http://www.androidcentral.com/first-look-lockscreen-widgets-android-42
Its funny cause a lot if the AOSP are major supporters and contributors of the custom ROM community. Better watch what you say about them.

There has to be room for criticism here. AOSP will always be the baseline and that baseline has to become more useful with solutions that go all the way, not just links to a settings page.
I suspect that there will be a major outcry about this quick settings shade and they will all be turned into toggles in Android 4.2.1
They have to include something in 4.2.1 or whatever is next so they skipped it now as they can boast later .
that's quite disapointing.... hopefuly they will change it for 4.2.1
I agree with you CADude. I'm still amazed that something as simple as battery percentage isn't included. Having toggles that don't toggle really is half-assed.
which toggles are actually toggles?

Brightness and aeroplane mode, but brightness opens up a slider, so you mightn't count that as a toggle.

Part of me wants to NOT complain because we have it so much better than iOS users already but this quick settings shade struck me as more of a placeholder than something that has been finalized as a truly useful feature. There's no customization to it, it looks awkwardly proportioned like a bunch of Windows Phone live tiles, and there's no effort to display a lot of information on it, despite seemingly having a lot of space left to work with.
Its as if the AOSP team doesn't have any faith in the intelligence of the public to learn how to use a toggle and instead took the safe route and put links in there instead so that people wouldn't complain about their phone settings being messed up by fooling around up there. That's the only explanation I can come up with for such a massive fail of an implementation.
I'm really annoyed at the possibility that this shade won't be made useful or more functional until Android 4.3 in another 4 months...

Listen, I know you guys are used to getting upvoted on reddit or whatever other teenybopper place you guys post at but this is a forum for real discussion about OS functionality, not being first to spout the latest meme to make other teenies smile when they see you applying it to every complaint out there.
There are a few things I've noticed which I would've preferred to function differently.
1. The lockscreen status bar clock doesn't autohide anymore, I know it's knit-picky, but two clocks on one screen is silly IMO.
2. The mobile data option in the shortcuts takes you to data usage, not the toggles, a little bit of a fail.
3. The status bar date should, when selected, take you to the clock app, not the clock settings, I mean, how often does one change those?
4. I like that the battery percentage is hidden away, but it's still there, I actually dig it a lot.
5. I don't like how the lockscreen widgets light up the sides of the lockscreen when you turn your screen on.
As you can see, these are all cosmetic changes that can be made pretty easily I am sure. One thing I am looking forward to is how devs customise all of these options, because the AOSP framework is there now, no need for CM toggles, etc. So although Google may not have nailed it 100%, our devs surely will.
Apologies if this is a little OT.

now I have flashed the OTA packages, played with the QS a bit
I'm thinking now, "What the **** is this...."
not all toggles are actually toggles... and there is no way to customize it further (to me the uniqueness of android is that it offers lots of ways to customise your device)
hope they can improve this QS thing in 4.2.1...

developing cm 12.1 port + custom TW kernel; feature requests?

I am developing a port of cm 12.1 and a custom touchwiz kernel for the t-mobile s6 Edge are there any features that you want in the rom or kernel?
I am open to suggestions and will add a much as I can; all suggestions are welcome
*Please specify whether you want the features in the kernel or the rom*
When I roll out the alpha's all source will be online so that you can play with it
I will update this thread when the rom/kernal are released and link the the thread which will be in the development section.

I can try to separate the toggles and notifications in a cool and unique way, but I don't want to infringe on any patents.
I have a good idea though as to how I am going to do it and I think you will like it
For the CM 12.1 port:
Not sure how much demand there will be for this, but I would love an Internet speed meter baked in to the ROM and available on the status bar. I currently use Internet speed meter app but if it was part of the ROM that would be great! (used this on an S4 GPE ROM and it was more reliable than the app and didn't clog the notifications)
This is great to hear!
My question is, I have always heard exynos devices were hard/impossible to get good aosp roms working on. Is this not the case?

I want stability over features.
A toggle for data on/off and brightness control on the status bar would be great.
I would like to be able to use custom RGB LED notifications by app. Also prefer to have the stock lollipop quiet hours setup right on the volume slider settings button. Agree with the stability over features request. Rather have 3 things that work than 5 with 4 working and one that reboots the phone randomly. That seems to be more a CM thing with their endless commits though... I heavily prefer at least the option to stay battery friendly rather than go after the ultimate benchmark score. Just my preferences here as you did ask for requests.
Not really a feature but maybe u will do it anyways.
I want a clean working stable cm port without the rest of the stuff people are requesting.
Like a clean copy and a bloated copy of the ROM. Give us a choice.

Rom with always on display?

Does anyone know of a rom that has always on display? I was going to go with codename phoenix but it has been discontinued and I don't know of another one.
Omni has it. Codename Phoenix is still being built, just no dedicated support. It's rock solid loaded with features.
Also, there is a substratum theme that supports it as well.

I believe it works in all the 8.1 Roms as long as you flash the OOS Oreo firmware.
As mentioned apparently you can enable this feature on the 8.1 only.
I use Always on Amoled from the store or glance plus. They both work well.

Choosing custom ROM

Hey guys. Time to switch custom for me and at the moment I"m choosing between RR vs Dirty Unicorns vs Nitrogen. Really need help choosing (comments, experience, pros and cons). I know, I can flash all of them and choose, but first I don't want to spent so much time and 2nd it's always better to start with best one.
Thanks.

Even if you found someone who will bite, "best" is based on your own criteria. In my case I liked AquariOS the best but that's just me. I'm actually back on stock as I dig the squeeze function and the easy monthly updates. Once I get tired of stock again I'm sure I'll be back on AquariOS as it was rock solid and fit me like a glove. Just my 2 cents...

It's hard to say which Rom is best , only way to find out which one you prefer is to flash and see. I've tried Aquarios , Dirty Unicorns, Nitrogen , and am currently on Pixel Dust , which is a really nice rom too., i really like how it comes with Black amoled theme ... all are very good roms and you can't go wrong with any of these ,I also really wanna give Resurrection Remix a run too, as that was one of my favorites on my galaxy s5 days , but i'm on may security patch , so patiently waiting for an update for that rom and Aquarios . :good:

That said, cust Roms are like batt life; the best, most accurate comparison is done on your own device, using your individual setup.

Quick settings is a combination of
"nougat / oreo quick settings" to add specific tiles

[Discussion] Which ROM are you guys using and why are you using it?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to know which rom you are using and the reason behind it.
I am using xiaomi.eu 10.2 stable, I am basically using it because of stability. I previously used pixel experience for a while, it was a bit of a hassle to boot it up.Since the dev was inactive and the rom had some bugs I had to use miui which I am not a big fan of.
The goal of this discussion is to find out if anyone is using stock android like roms without any issues.

That's about where I was, other than the notification nightmare which made it close to unusable for me. I just couldn't see the point, my conclusion being it's designed for people who like themes, which aren't my cup of tea.
Yeah notifications are a disaster. I thought MIUI was cool and I have all the pixel XL devices too, so I have choices.

There are a couple apps for which I get notifications but no sound, most notably Google Keep and Settle Up. Other than that, I don't have major issue with notifications since 10.2 update.
Stock Chinese ROM with Nova Launcher Prime for me. I like the lack of Google trash, like Chrome, not being needed to use and access the Play Store. Literally the most bloat-free experience after uninstalling the Chinese bloat that isn't needed.
Dev eu rom. Since the first release. Happy with it. No problem at all.
Cn device with global Rom, I like MIUI battery management last all day with heavy use.
Xiaomi.eu weekly with Nova prime on top.
I really like it and notifications work fine it is just a little bit annoying that you have to set app specific settings for them to work properly though.
Guys what's the notification issue you're talking about?

Which messaging app are you using? For me, I could never get notifications to work properly with Google Messages, and with the native Messages app, group messaging didn't work, nor does it have a desktop interface. This may have improved with the more recent releases, but Pixel Experience was so good I have no need to bother trying MIUI again (the other big thing it was missing is the smart unlock functionality).
The only thing I'll regret in stock android is the full screen gesture. I love it in miui
