[Q] Mic issues - Sony Xperia ZL

Hey guys, have a small issue and was wondering if any of you could give me any suggestions regarding it. My family has bought 4 xperia zl (6502) and have been using them for the past 6 months or so with no issues. Now, on one of the phones, the mic seems to have issues although its confusing. Here is what i've noticed :
- started about one month back
- upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3 OTA didn't solve the issue
- tried a different sim card from a different provider, didn't help
- sony service tests (*#*#service#*#*) - mic doesn't seem to be working unless you're yelling into it
- sony diagnostics app shows no problems reported
- using a sound recorder app -> has problems picking up sounds that the other zl can easily do
-***the confusing part***, if i do a video call or voice call using skype or hangouts, the mic works exactly as it should. Skype test call plays back everything beautifully even if i'm whispering.
Any suggestions/ideas/solutions/hunches/etc????
Thanks a lot guys.

If i'm going to do a factory reset, would it be better to just flash a fresh copy of .569? Or is there no point in doing that.

yeah thats better
be sure u select the wipe data option in the flash tool because flashing can also be done without wiping data

Is Skype using the secondary MIC ?
Hey bro ,
I am having the excat same problem .
I think you should be knowing but still , Our ZL has two mics one at the front and another at the back of the phone . Since you are saying Skype is picking up sound without any problem I believe it should be beacuse its pipcking up from secondary one .

I believe the mic on the back is for noise suppression only. Even if I use Google hangouts, turn off video and route the call through internal speaker (use as a regular call), the sound is perfectly fine. Am planning on doing a full wipe this weekend.

have flashed the phone with stock .569 and did a service test, mic problem remains. Looks like its time to go to sony service.

[Q] HTC One X sound bug - A "Click" when sound starts/ends

Hello,
I just got my HTC One X a few days ago (white, o2-branded) and it has a quite annoying bug:
Everytime a sound (no matter if music, a game or just the volume adjustment sound) starts or ends, the phone makes a "clicking" sound. It sounds a bit like a camera shutter.
Hear for yourself:
(had to break up link because this is my first post, just remove the spaces)
youtu. be/thTyeud5foc
I contacted HTC's support and they told me it wasn't reported before and I should take my phone back to the store I bought it from.
Now my question:
- Has anyone else reported or read about that bug? Goggle couldn't tell me.
- o2 didn't deliver the 1.28 Update yet. Could it be a software problem? I remember some custom DHD kernels having similar issues. So should I just wait for the update?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Phil

It happens with poweramp ... When you open it !
Sent from my HTC One X
I don't have poweramp installed...
On my phone, it happens whenever a sound starts/ends, no matter which app it is
Update:
It seems equalizer (an app I installed) is causing it. I didn't realize I had installed it, it was auto-restored by google when I got my new phone. As soon as I deinstalled it and rebooted the phone, the problem was gone. That's sad, because I don't like beats audio but want to be able to slightly increase the bass for some songs.
Anyone know another good equalizer app, preferrably with preset-widget-buttons on homescreen?

i have the same, sounds like the camera lense is tapping the plastic
Check if you have Any app installed that alters your Sound, like equalizer, poweramp or similar. For me the clicking went away after I deinstalled and restarted the phone. You should probably untick quickstart before restarting.
It can be caused by DSPManager, disable all the tweaks for the speaker and reboot, works a treat.

Also can be caused by the virtual room settings, I would leave that disabled too.

I have the same issue. Stock phone, no root, Tmobile.
Hey guys
I picked up a One X on T-Mobile UK the other day (stock, not rooted yet) and I get exactly the same thing. I've only noticed it when playing music through Play Music (sideloaded the app via an apk found here), but now I'm going to look out for it when playing videos.
Given the comments made about poweramp and other equalisers, I suspect that it's something to do with the Beats Audio gubbins that comes pre-installed. So much for "studio quality sound", eh?
Hi,
mine issue is somehow close to yours.
When I connect my HOX to external speakers there is some sound like click which is heard every time s sound is produced by the phone. This click i hear in the beginning and the end of the original sound (music, notification, etc.). It's quite annoying as long as the overall sound quality of the phone is satisfying to me.
Also I dont have none apps affecting audio quality. Only the stock player + sound cloud + pocket casts.

I'm having a similar problem to others in this thread. I haven't installed any sound-altering apps, and no other adjustments have been made, yet whenever a sound plays a slight audio click follows... If anyone has an idea of how to solve this, I'd be very grateful. I'm on T-Mobile. Thanks!
---------- Post added at 11:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:14 AM ----------
I see on the FAQ that I should "disable any audio effects/audio DSPs to reduce the vibrations of the DAC"...
How do I do this, please? And is this only relevant if you've activated effects already? Thanks.
Is this problem still ongoing for most?
I got this phone for my cuz. When i tested the camera i heard the sound and thought was a camera thing and could be off if the camera shutter sound was disabled
after handing over the phone to him he says he still hears the sound whenever he plays any kind of audio
It was a stock phone from Verizon so I can't tell if any other apps were installed
I'll check and follow the instructions here then let you guys know.
If I find anything else that i can share to help out will also share that
G
That click sound is because of our ****ty DAC ... So if you want to have bad sound quality for example uninstall all equalizer apps...if you want to have better, then keep it and live with it that it will click sometimes...after a while it should disappear

Ok cool ONEX Master I'll see if it does go away.
Thought it was in fact a hardware issue.
Cause right now out of the country and have no simple way of just returning it.
Will upgrading the ROM or rooting and changing the ROM help?

it won't help normally as most EQ/DSP are producing this sound...it's because the DAC is forced to end sound so it will produce that click sound, but after a while it should be gone

Distorted Sound

I've brand new T989 with me, I moved to India after purchasing it so didn't got chance to check it properly while I was in USA. I just turned it on today and sound is distorted from rear speaker and in Earphones. Its just unplayable at even minimum volume and its not just with music its with every sound phone makes.. I can upload sample after recording but wanted to ask first if it can be fixed some how? I know its not speaker problem as sound is messed in earphones too. I don't know I feel its Hardware fault but its very rare :\ It is same sort of distorted sound when one preamps the music to make it louder.
Things I've tried 1 factory reset 2.installed clean factory image using ODIN and custom rom. Problem still exists.. Downloading 4.0.4 image to try it out too.
Please suggest if there is any fix available as I can't ask for warranty outside USA and sending phone back and getting it back from USA will cost almost half the price of phone so its not worth.
EDIT: its like something is boosting audio, for a min it started working fine but after reboot its screwed again. Any help would be highly appreciated thanks
Thanks in Advance

[Q] Mic only works for Phone?

I've searched to the best of my abilities but I can't find anybody with the exact same problem where they got a solution.
I rooted my GNex a while ago, and I recently flashed XenonHD as well as Fancy Kernel (latest one).
I wanted to record a piano piece on my phone when I realized that none of my voice recorders work. When I select to "calibrate mic" for the auto-gain, it goes to infinity, which probably means it's at 0 no matter what. I also tried with my camera, and that didn't record any sound either (silent).
However, for the past couple of days, I've been talking to my friends on Phone, and my voice is clear and loud to them. Which makes me confused, because that means the mic is working (so I assumed that videos and everything would also work). But it's not.
I recently flashed InfinitySoundEngine1.0 (slightly old), would that have anything to do with it?
Thanks for the help everyone!
I'm using gStrings for tunning my guitar with my phones mic and it works pretty good. You should try reflashing your ROM and see if it solves your problem

Flash your ROM again and see if it works. If it does, then its probably that sound engine thing.

audio - speakers stopped working suddenly

Hi,
I have an unlocked - rooted ATT Note2 with Temasek ROM v 50. I have been using it for several months now happily.
All of a sudden, few days ago I started having problems with audio.
1. On an incoming call, I do not hear the incoming call ringtone, Once I pick the call, I can hear the called in "ear piece" but not in "loud speaker on the back" and they can happily hear me also.
If I have head phones connected, I hear the incoming call ringtone in headphones properly.
2. Videos I have in my phone or youtube vidoes, does not produce any sound.
3. If I go to Settings and select a different ringtone etc, I remember that the ring tone I selected is played immediately, but now I do not hear that also.
I went through all the settings, profiles, vibration settings etc. No Success.
I cleaned cache, dalvik and reinstalled the Temasek 50 ROM that I have been using for several months. No Success.
Just now I went through this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/sound-calls-samsung-galaxy-s3-problem-t1826167/page17
I installed Samsung Care app and did their sound test.
When I am in the App, "ear piece" sound WORKED but not rear loud speaker. I was half happy.
Once I am out of the app, the "ear piece" sound is working from videos, youtube and in settings ( problem 2, problem 3) above, but not working for incoming calls ( problem 1) above.
My next step would be going to either Samsung stock ROM or another ROM with full clean up.
Any ideas / suggestions?
Update 1:
Every time I reboot, I am having the problem 2 and 3. After I go through the Samsung Care app Audio Test, then the problem 2 and problem 3 go away. Still no solution for Problem 1 above.
I suggest that you full wipe and flash a rooted stock rom...
Zen Arcades rom would do nicely...
That way...you'll get unaltered audio drivers for testing the hardware properly...
If the problem persists...you may have a hardware problem...g

Thank you for the suggestion.
I have fully wiped the phones internal storage, dalvik, cache and flashed the old Stock ROM that worked perfectly fine before. It did not solve my problem.
I will Zen Arcades ROM soon.

[Q] Xperia ZL problems

Hello I know this is a website for moding phones, which I plan to eventually do however My Xperia ZL is on the stock ROM atm and is 4.4.2 OS. I am having two problems and would like help deciding if it is software or hardware related. First my device will randomly turn itself off and restart from once to 40 plus times whenever I restart my phone. Once it finally stops restarting though, usually after 3 days max it works fine until I restart it again it will not restart on me if i am talking on it or using it. I also have an audio playback problem that occurs in both streamed songs from pandora and using the walkman or google apps on the phone. Both through headphones and the external speaker the audio will cut out and a screech or some other noise will come out and then the song will continue again. Any assistance will be appreciated thanks.
Hey, there seems to be mixture of hardware and software problems. To isolate the issue, have you tried doing a Factory Reset ?
