[Q] Day planner full screen thing on wake-up - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I am not sure what it is called, but when I wake my tablet, it shows this full screen calendar/day planner thing. The top half is a calender page, the bottom half is a blank scribble pad.
What is this thing called and is there a way to turn it off?

[Q] camera on from lock screen

The other day I turn on my phone and was getting ready to unlock my screen when I almost drop it. After I fumble it and look at the screen the camera was turning on an I can't figure out how I did it. Can somebody tell me how I did it? Thanks.

...you swipe the lock screen to the left, starting from the right edge of the screen and moving to the left

Thank you. Lean something new. No telling what else this smart phone does that I don't know. But it's only as smart as it operator.
Swiping from right to left on the logogram brings up the camera app.
This was a feature introduced in Android 4.2, along with Lockscreen widgets.
In case you didn't know this, swipe left to right on your lock screen and you can add widgets to your lock screen such as messaging, calendar, gmail. So you can take a quick glance at your frequently used widgets without even unlocking your phone.

Lock Screen Swipe Left --> Home Screen bug?

I'm relatively new to my HTC one M8 and I've tried to do a search for this but nothing has come up.
I've set my "home screen" to be the 3rd screen from the left instead of the default 2nd screen from the left. So swiping to the left from the lock screen is supposed to take you to your home screen but it keeps taking me to the 2nd screen from the left even though I've changed it to the 3rd screen. Is something wrong with my phone or does this happen to everyone?
Thanks

Where do you see that it is suppose to take you to your home screen? It says takes you to widget panel in the settings "which I don't even know what that is" but it just takes you to the last screen open, not necessarily home. Mine does the same thing as yours.

Wake up the phone directly to the Home widget panel
1. Lift the phone in
portrait orientation.
2. Swipe left across the
screen right away.
This home widget panel is what I set as my home screen right? I see no reason that it would keep going to the screen next to blink feed. Is there some way I can choose what my home widget panel is?

Home Widget panel is the 1st screen after Blinkfeed which can have widgets on. Above behaviour is also true when you set the Blinkfeed as your home screen.

Ive just tried it on song pop and it doesnt turn the screen off....I believe it needs to be on a blank part of the homescreen or on the notification bar area at the top of the screen
Do you have clash of clans game? Can you try to double click inside it?

Knock off only works on the home screen (and the status bar). It would be quite silly otherwise since you wouldn't be able to double tap to zoom etc.

I can also see it turning the screen off when using your keyboard lol. It definitely sounds like a nice feature - especially considering the buttons are on the back. It would be annoying to have to pick your phone up off of a table or desk to turn the screen on sometimes.

Lock Screen Duration

This may be something so simple that I just can't see it but, does anyone know how do increase the display time for the lock screen? Mine only stays on about 2 seconds and for the life of me I cannot find the setting to change it. Thanks.

Under Settings look at Display and Wallpaper, in there is the screen timeout. I have set mine to 30 sec and it works perfect.
Hope this helps a little.

That seems to work for the active screens but not for the lock screen.

Do you mean the time it stays on if you press the power button but you do not unlock it? Just trying to confirm the exact time out you mean before I answer.

Not to speak for OP but yes this is what he means. It goes off after about 3 seconds in the scenario you just mentioned. Only thing that "helps" is if you have smart stay activated it'll keep the lock screen on when you're looking at it.
But the reason this drives me insane is I have some apps, especially my SMS app, set to wake the screen upon receipt of a message. Well by the time I get the phone in my hand or out of pocket the screen is turning back off.

Yep, that's my issue. If I ever get that ironed out I would like to have my dock on the lock screen as I did on my Galaxy S3 but, I don't see options for that either.

The only way to have control over the timeout period is to actually have a lock enabled. Rather it is pin, swipe, or pattern one of them must be enabled. The select Lock Automatically and then select the time you want it to stay on.
On my note 4 I noticed my screen was staying on lock screen for duration of regular screen timeout so I actually wanted the opposite of what you want. I then realized what was causing my lock screen to stay on if i pressed power button. It was the remote/peel smart widget on lock screen. If you enable it on lock screen it keeps your screen on for as long as your dimming timeout. Perhaps other lockscreen widgets might do the same.

What? ? Where is this setting at?
Im on OG5 stock unrooted, and its not under 'settungs/lockscreen '
Thanks
Peel Smart is a Samsung app used to activate the the note 4 remote control features. It allows you to use the phone as a remote for tvs, devices etc. Inside the app there is a setting to enable the app on lock screen. Thats what allows my screen to stay on while locked.

Genius! I have been uninstalling random apps and using Greenify to force apps to "sleep" in an effort to get my constantly lit screen under control... I don't know how you narrowed it to the Peel widget, but instant solution!!
