[Q] Is it just my phone? - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Have just bought a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, and I'm sad to say that I'm not at all impressed. Here are my findings so fare:
- Losing conection, people say the try to call me but often they can't reach me.
- Power button stop responding, can't turn phone on.
- Phone scratch to easy. after two weeks it looks like it's 2 years old.
- If phone is not in stamina mode battery don't last very long.
I don't know if it's just me, but I am not happy so far.

1. I've never read about this issue.
2. You mean like this: LINK?
3. Yes, it scratches easily. A screen protector is recommended for the back and for the front too. Thread: LINK
4. A battery bug (wakelocks) is known for the Z1C. Is there a sonnyericsson thing in your battery stats? Try using 2G, it's a workaround for this issue.

1. Could be I'm in a area with weak signals, but with my previous phones this was never a problem.
2. Yes, exactly like this. This just confirms there is some kind of defect with this phone.
3. To bad Sony don't include this then. I guess they know about this problem.
4. com.sonyericsson.android. If I have to use 2G for my phone to not eat battery I would say this is a major problem. If the problem is known why dont they fix it?

2. Maybe this is a software issue too, because it just delays and it's not the problem with the button itself.
4. This is a fairly new device, fixing it takes some time I guess. Perhaps posts in Xperia Care and emails to Sony make it faster.

It's strange how variable people's experience has been with this phone. I think I've been lucky, as I haven't had the same problems as many have:
1. Never had this.
2. Never had this. Always responds just as quickly each time, regardless of use.
3. The ASF is not great quality ... I have no front protector (one was included in the box by Sony but it's crappy) and a carbon decal on the back. After 2 weeks using a pouch it still looks as good as new to me, without a single scratch. I just wish it had a proper anti-static coating.
4. Battery life has been awesome even not in stamina mode. The 3G bug is annoying and should be fixed, but it hasn't exactly killed my battery life, just strained the phone more than it should.
I've also not seen any of the build quality issues like gaps or squeaks in the frame, and no issues at all with the JDI panel. Cross fingers ...

Ordered a ZL and have a few questions

I placed an order with shopblt.com for a Xperia ZL (6506) and have a couple of questions. I do realize that (maybe) I should have asked them prior to ordering, but it's too late for that!
- Has anyone tried a 64GB microSD card? The specs say the ZL has support for upto 32GB, so I'm not sure 64GB would work.
- Is the camera as bad as everyone makes it out to be? Soft and fuzzy pics are the norm?
- And how is the battery life? Does it get you through 24 hours? Any improvements once the battery had a few cycles?
The expandable storage and near-stock UI is what made me select this device over the HTC One and Samsung GS4!
Additionally, this forum is pretty slow. Hopefully, the release of the ZL in Canada today should bring some folks over.

Yes, as long as it is formatted as FAT.

Image quality is a hit and miss. You may get a good picture, take the exact same shot the next second, and the quality may not turn out as good. I suspect the camera software is at fault.

Light usage (~1 hour of screen on-time): Yes
Moderate usage (~3 hours of screen on-time): Depends on application. Gaming/Video streaming or running at 70%+ brightness constantly? Probably not.
Heavy usage (5+ hours of screen on-time): No.

1. 64GB uSD works perfectly well. AND the phone does not end up corrupting your cards like the Samsung phones do. Pick up one of them Sandisk Ultra Pro cards and you'll be a happy camper.
2. Can't comment, never use camera on a phone. Its pointless IMO unless you have something like the Nokia 808
3. I constantly get 4+ (almost 5) hours of screen on time. Auto brightness, an equal mix of gaming, browsing (on HSPA), IM'img and calling, about an hour of GPS Sports tracking and music. I am really happy with the battery life. Takes me through the day without any hiccups.
The development of the ZL will pick up, but don't hold your breath. A couple of good ROMs is all I can see coming for this phone. The GS4 is going to take all the limelight in spite of all its mediocrity.

I fully agree with what's said above. About the ZL camera here are my thoughts (post #13&16). For battery life see here (post #3&5).

Yes, 32 kB cluster. I would try to let the phone do it if it is able to detect the card inserted.
Canceled my order from shopblt and bought it direct from Rogers. At least I get 14 days to try it out - if I don't like it, I can return it. Just charging it right now, so I don't have too many initial thoughts. So far the size seems fine and I do like the textured back. The 64GB card also seems to work, so that is good.
Thanks to all for the help provided. I'll definitely check out the camera settings and see what happens in my case.
More feedback after a day of usage:
- Feels great in the hand, and the textured back helps you grip the phone firmly. Size is right for me.
- Build quality is outstanding. Don't know who came up with the design of the SIM/SD card cover as that is the only weak point there.
- Screen looks amazing head on. As you angle it away, it starts washing out fairly quickly. If I leave it on my desk while working, I cannot read much of the text unless I pick it up. It is pretty annoying have to pick it up all the time to read my incoming emails/text etc.
- The camera is awful. I've adjusted the settings manually, but the photos come out so soft.
- It seems like the LTE radio is weak. I get little to no signal in locations where I get a medium strength signal with the GS3 or the HTC 8X.
- Call quality is fine - nothing great, and nothing too bad either.
- Battery life seems fine - doesn't seem to deteriorate too rapidly even on LTE.
Between the display & camera issues, I may be tempted to go back the S3 for some time and wait to check out the GS IV or the HTC One X. I'll try it out another week or so and see if I can get used to it.

I picked the phone up yesterday when a retailer near me finally had one (none on tuesday)
and I agree the feels good in the hand, gives you a confidence that my Arc just didn't have
I don't see the SD/SIM cover a weak point, how often are you really opening that up?
as far as angling the phone away, it's sitting on the desk beside me right now and I can see everything just fine, I have 74% battery left and it's 11:56pm. it's -8 outside and feels like -9... I could read anything just fine from here
haven't really tested the camera out, but that wasn't a selling feature for me so not a big deal
I'm unable to get any LTE signal in Winnipeg, but I"m going to attribute that to Rogers not having LTE service anywhere in Manitoba...
Call quality seems pretty good, the one call I made worked out just fine
Battery seems to last a good long while, however it seems that charging the phone through USB (not the wall charger) is nearly impossible if the screen is on.
With the display issues, I remember seeing that Sony put screens from two different manufacturers in the phones, have you checked to see which one you have? I think I saw a thread around here with instructions for how to find the info, I'll see if I can find it.

Mine is the Sharp panel. But the display is horrible off-angle, so much so that I contemplating returning the phone.
No problem here. Reads fine off angle. I wonder whether you got bad one....

Even though I dont have 'problems' reading text off angle (which BTW, I rarely find myself doing), the washout is undeniable. Makes it seem that the phone has a cheap knockoff panel. When your main point of advertizing is the amazing screen to body ratio, one would think a top quality panel would be the priority.
Finally, I gave up on the phone. For a device that cost me $750 (hardware purchase + taxes), the issues were enough for me to return the phone. It is a promising device, but a couple of key issues made me want to return it.
- The display: Great head-on, every other viewing angle is terrible.
- Camera: The images are rather soft. I would assume this could be fixed by firmware, but I'm not going wait for it. I've been burned in the past by other Android manufacturers promising these kinds of fixes.
- Weak LTE signal compared to the other phones.
I think I'll wait and see how the HTC One or the Samsung GS IV turn out - till then I'll use my GS III or BB Z10.
Too bad, Sony! The ZL had tremendous potential, but it just wasn't for me!

Sorry it didnt work out for ya. Having the S3 which is a perfectly capable device, I dont see a reason to switch to GS4. Maybe wait for the next Nexus? Off topic, how do you like the Z10?

I really like the Z10 - the size is perfect (I personally think 4.2" is the perfect size), the Hub is an awesome idea, call quality is amazing and the battery life is only second to the RAZR HD. A couple of things let it down - only eight running apps are allowed; no 3rd party apps can hook into the hub. It is also let down by the lack of apps - most people are aware of this prior to buying the phone, but it's even worse once you use the phone for a little time. Most apps are ports of Android and the UI paradigm is really different. If more developers migrated to BB, it might help improve the viability of BB.

[Q] Advice on buying Xperia ZL?

Hello, dear all users of Xperia ZL...
I'm planning to buy a ZL, I've been thinking about it more than a month to purchase this phone.. I've watched several reviews, advantages, and disadvantages of it. But here in XDA, recently I realized some people faced a problem related to ZL when suddenly shut down itself because of several reasons, like the battery, etc. It looked like because ZL has built-in non removable battery, this kind of problem occurred. And for some people, changing the battery will fix the issue...
Now after knowing this kind of problem, I got myself in dilemma. I mean, this kind of problem is quite serious I think because it is related with the hardware. If it is only about LED, app, or any other software problem, it is not really matter for me, beside if it is already serious I still have XDA.. But if related to the hardware, I'm afraid my purchase will be a total waste...
So, I want to ask to you all, the users of ZL.
Does the newest Xperia ZL phone on sale might still have this kind of problem? Or Sony have already fixed it somehow recalling ZL released on 2013?
Thanks a lot for all of you in advance..

I own an Xperia ZL, bought on Oct 2013, initially, yes, i had an issue of the phone going into deep sleep and being unable to wake. That was on 4.2.2. Activating stamina mode made the sleep of death problem even worse. And back then, the battery was only able of sustaining a day's moderate usage. But since Android 4.3 was released for the ZL, all those problems have been cleared. Now, the phone performs as smooth as the Z1. it has all the camera apps as well which i think are great. Stamina mode runs very well as it should be , and no more battery drain issues. As for your query as to sudden shut down, i think its because the battery overheated. Yes, the phone can run quite warm, if you do hardcore games for long periods, like say, 45 minutes non stop , i personally have never experienced sudden shut down's before. DO also note that if the ZL gets into the occasional freeze or deep sleep, it has an advantage over the Z- a hard reset button beside the simcard slot. On the design front, there is something interesting to note of the ZL's frame. It feels different to that of the Z. the Z's frame is plastic, but the ZL's frame(for the white version) feels metallic(likely aluminium). when you try using your finger to scratch it, the Z's frame is rough, but the ZL's is smooth and hard.

Yeah, I think I did aware that overheat battery is also causing the phone to sudden death. But what I found were quite horrifying, because after the sudden death happen, they cannot turn on their ZL unless they put it to wall charger, some of them also experienced their ZL bootloop even they didn't root it yet. Many of the ZL users fixed this kind of problem by replacing the battery. These problem occurred after the sudden death of the ZL. Are these for real? I mean, getting in touch with replacing battery means this is a ridiculously hardware problem.
I'm wondering is this still happen nowadays with ZL users?

well, in my country only C6502 is available for sale. mine was fine. and people that i have come across generally, never had any problems with their ZL's... so perhaps this might be regional/model issues? try seeking for comments from local people who own a ZL to see what its like. Sony Mobile's support in my country is absolutely horrible. i'm not sure about yours, but the service centre here is very very very poor in service and timing. So i definitely wouldn't want a Sony phone which would have issues.
Got my C6506 (new) OCT 2013.... no hardware issues..... the odd software issues here and there (Google TTS crashing, running the .569 version)....... most irritating thing about the C6506 is its 1-2 months or so lagging in updates.......
I have a C6506 too. I've had mine for just under a year. And no issues for me except the black dots on my pictures. I'm just praying I don't get the power death issue as well. I've even pulled out my old Motorola Atrix and got it flashed with a solid ROM, just so I have a backup device in case.

Had that sudden power off issue, still my phone was without warranty so I had to change the battery. Reasons are: horrifying battery quality+hard gaming, played like 4 horus/day for 2 weeks and the problem begun. ( no clocktweaks at all! )
If you buy a phone WITH warranty, and it's truth the fact that the phone's production stopped I totally encourage you to do so, best case scenario you get the problem and get switched for a better model ( if you check sony's support forum you'll see some exchanges for "Z" or even "Z1" models ). Worst case you get the problem on 366 day and you buy a new, cheap by then, battery; not such a bad thing, the phone will keep on working for +20 bucks or so
I'm owning my C6503 since mid April 2013. Never had a sudden power off. Since June 2013 I haven't been on the stock firmware and never had any hardware issues.
Go for it!
I've had my ZL for a bit more than 4 months now. It was rooted from its first days till some weeks ago that I flashed stock 4.3 to it. Now it's working better than 4.2, but it's un-rooted. (Hoping for a rooting method for when 4.4 is available, please @DooMLoRD!!)
Never had any issues of any kind. Solid, big yet compact and beautiful looking device, now at a very good price.
But you have to consider; if you are a guy or a girl that spends most of his/her day outside (with little to no rest-to-recharge possibilities) you will need a battery bank of at least 5000mAh to go with you so you can really use yor ZL the whole day without compromises. Otherwise your ZL will die on you in +-8 hours of usage due to the high screen brightness you need when you're outside a building and you won't be able to play anything. Ha
The ZL's battery -now- can last up to 12 hours under moderate usage on the go, and up to 22 hours if you have a job that needs you to concentrate and stop touching your device for 8 hours, in such cases you only touch your device for little moments till your working day is over.
All in all this is a great device; fast and powerful enough for any task. Its camera and all is good. But I'll get a 10000 mAh battery bank as soon as I can cause I feel that way I can really make this babe shine that splendid screen, and not to have it at low brightness because of the battery. But that's me. Why 10000 mAh? Cause the 5000 or 7500 ones are almost as big and heavy as the 10000 one, and just a little bit more expensive. Reasonable, huh? And I can carry one anyway.
I hope this helped you.
- Leonardo.
Pd: Soon I'll be posting my trick for the ZL's screen, to make it look almost like the IPS screen of the G2.
And the black version is better looking for me.
First of all... Thanks for all the replies guys.. I really appreciate all your feedback and suggestions..

So apparently, the newest 4.3 firmware works flawlessly without such power death issue as far as you know right? Because actually that problem I've found seems like when ZL is still several months after released and looks like still not getting this newest firmware update... That's why I need to confirm whether there is still such problem for newest ZL out there...
Thanks for the suggestion about black color btw, I'm actually planning to buy the black one...
And for other members that haven't shared their experiences in using ZL, I really hope you'd share.. because I'm like a lost girl at a forest, I need to know if I really should buy this overwhelming device.. I would really appreciate all of your feedback, guys...
And thanks in advance once again..

I bought my zl on 19th nov... had no sudden death issue or anything like that ..bt i had black dots in my cam ... i noticed it aftr 2mnths of usage ... went to service center ..they replaced it n gave me a brand new phone ... working fine till now ... its been almost a month now ...
i agree to everything the Sw33t_Lov3r said about the battery.
I have a Galaxy s4 and my wife has the ZL. The ZL is a bit wider than my S4, so I find that I have to use it two handed more often than the S4. The screen viewing angles are terrible on the ZL. This is a problem when my wife is trying to show me a photo sitting across from me and all I can see are washed out images. Camera and battery life are average at best. On the positive side, the ZL screen is very good in bright sunlight. The software is excellent and Sony's Small Apps are a nice touch.
Edit: The ZL has the black dots in the camera, which is really poor quality control from Sony.
Edit: To the OP, I would not recommend the ZL.

Now that you mention it, I just know about the ZL camera issue..
Thanks for the feedback..
I know that ZL actually has several disadvantages, but I dont really mind if they're about hardware that not really affect the performance, as long as it is works like it should be..
That's why I aimed for ZL, because I don't have anything across my mind beside ZL that has those performance.. Now that I found some more issues, I don't really know what should I buy with similar performance and price if not ZL..

Dang! You're right! I held them up one on top of the other, and the S4 is wider.
Not sure if it is because of the sharp corners, but with the ZL I seem to have to stretch my thumb more.

I found this site. Its based in Indonesia.
Do you have, or are you able to get a Visa Debit card?
Its a card that acts like a debit, drawing money from your own accounts, but you can use it for online purchases instead of a credit card!

Hi
For the receivers of the very fist batch that should be arriving to your door step please share your first impressions / photos / videos
I pre ordered the second batch, to be dispatched around may 16th.
P
I've got the phone since Friday now (3rd day) and it's a great phone.
+ Recharge, overall quality, screen, feel in the hand, amazing speakers.
- Fast drain on batery, yellow tint on the bottom of the screen (as many others)
pics: click here
Phone quality is great
Speakers are loud and crisp
Fast charge is an added bonus.
Camera shutter is instant.
No yellow tint
Buggy OS:
-Sometimes ColorOS reverts my changed settings.
-Phone mutes all notification sounds after a restart.
Dead pixel on far right, the dead pixel is so darn small it's not even noticeable unless you thoroughly search for a dead pixel.
have you guys tried Beta 2.0 of color OS ?

No i have not. It's not much, but it is there...
I got mine on Friday ( 2nd). So far I really like the phone. Same as others have said....
Pros:
Fast charging times
speakers sound quality are really quite good ( this was a bonus for me)
very responsive
lots of theme options
feels like a large Nexus 5 to me.
Cons:
Color OS takes some getting used to
viewing angles are a little washed out ( not as good as my M8 or note 3)
idle time on battery needs some tweaking
Overall I am glad I purchased the 7a.
The os is pretty much in an early alpha state and requires a few more updates to actually be fully usable.
Some features suck battery like it's cotton candy, but the superb sound and awesome screen make up for it.
If you wish to make it through a day on one charge then turn everything you don't need off and change the lock screen because the normal lock screen is glitched and drains your battery on standby.
Overall it's a great device with a not so great operating system.
But people like entropy are already working on the first custom ROMs so that should be handled soon.

Received mine last Monday, started playing with it Tuesday, got a sim for it Wednesday.
I'll preface this by stating I'm coming from a 3 year old HTC Inspire 4g so if somethings seem "wrong" well it's light years difference between the Inspire and this Oppo Find 7a
My first suggestion would be to put the 2.0 beta on it, been running it since yesterday and so far I think it "feels" more stable than the 1.2.x that comes with the phone. Most importantly I haven't had a single SD issue since updating to 2.0b.
Sound/speakers are amazing. Granted I'm no audiophile but considering my other 2 devices, HTC Inspire 4g and HP Touchpad, this sounds night and day better than both.
Speed is blazing, again though I am coming from a 3 year old phone (single core).
Battery life is great for me even from the start. Even w/o comparing it to the abysmal life of my previous device I'd still consider this good.
No yellow tint for me so can't comment on that
The phone is light as heck and the size is great. I thought I'd have problems since I have such small hands but none to speak of.
Downside is no custom rom yet and as I'm used to CM the features and nomenclature are different and a bit annoying having to think about doing something where as I'm used to being able to just do it.
An annoying thing is the flip case that came with the preorder turns the screen on/off which seems like a great idea, it's just implemented wrong. When I put my phone in the cubby hole in my truck the screen turning on and off is distracting. I've read others are discovering it's turning on and off in their pockets too.
No LTE for me until I "backdoor" it since AT&T doesn't recognize this device. I registered it and got a new sim twice and my account still shows that I'm on my Inspire 4g. Granted I don't use a lot of data so not really a priority, but still would be nice to have it even if I don't use it all that much. Then again with the speed and battery life of this phone that might change.
Got mine Friday. Love the screen size and colours, the overall built quality, the sound of the speakers and the fastcharging.
I am on a rooted ColorOS 2.0 (International) Beta and I must admit I actually like it's clean look and feel. I will probably go for a custom kernel and rom in the long run though.
I do not like the white back, not much grip for me and I really hate the pleather case that came with it.
The batery drain is also a minor problem for me.
Overall it's still the best phone I owned and I recommend it (unless you have really tiny hands)

Is ColorOS 2.0 a big difference than what it came with? I am currently on V1.20i. Ive been holding off from rooting until I start seeing some real ROM action.

Screen seems to react a little quicker to touch. 2.0 seems a crisper and smoother rom. I really love the blurr effect. Voice wakeup und Live Weather 2.0 are also pretty nice.

LTE works great if you give them an IMEI from a 4G phone like a Nexus 5. Just call ATT and have them change your IMEI, presto... your LTE will work like a champ!

I had an 4g phone, but not a LTE phone. I gotta borrow a friend's phone one day and do that, eventually.
Solid build but buttons are little bit hard to press IMO.
Great screen. Very bright though. Camera is good.
Color OS features are nice but there is one bug with cellular network battery usage. I think it doesn't go into deep sleep because of it and drains battery on standby mode especially if you have screen off gesture on. If you turn this feature off, it's a lot better. I do not have yellow tint problem.
I wish we can swap back plates like One Plus. I like to use my phone without cover and the back plate is white.
The touch is very responsive. I have to change Touch & hold delay to medium to prevent accidental click while scrolling. Then again, I'm using a screen protector which comes with the phone and it might be the screen protector problem.
The speaker is loud. Really really loud. I am HTC M7 user and I think Find 7 speaker is better than M7.
best phone I ever had.
hardware: Impressive built quality, awsome gorilla glass with almost perfect touch (but I had to remove that **** of screen protector that killed touch sensitive), conversation quality is like havin ur friend talkin beside you and it get signal where other phones die.
software: I m using colorOS 1.2i, it has lacks of some feature, but it sports everything you really need and it does it fast and easy to use. It's like a stock android with kool features. Never had bug like force closing of apps....for me it's much better to use than a touchwiz and I feel like I m using a reactive nexus or a cooked rom.
camera: should I spend words? no...it's the best, there's no competion. it doesnt have any gimmick feature like htc zoe..but it's so easy and fast to find the settings u need, just shoot! and pics are nearly professional.
loudspeaker: it's in gods arena, beside z2 and htc one. if htc m8 is the king in this way, find7a is a prince, and u ll be happy of having.
Battery drain: kernel and governor need to be fixed. I had a good 6% of drain when using it with lte and screen on, but I also had 5.5% in stand by mode. so....here it's how I fixed and now I get 1.5% in standby (tnx to Gsam and Wakelock apps):
-removed stock google news and wheater widget, it doesnt allow sleep mode and it drain 1.5% of battery per hour
-removed yahoo wheater app (removing just widget is unuseful)...saved other 1.5%
-WIFI advanced settings : everythin off but optimization wifi...saved another 1.5%
- I use pattern unlock mode, from ever, someone reported that using stock colorOS mode drains battery
I noticed that when switching off WIFI , 3g/4g connection is already on...never happened with other phones, they all took some seconds for 3g to be working, maybe this means connection drain battery as it never goes really off even when is under wifi? dunno..
something I didnt like , but doesnt matter:
-power button sucks, it s less than half millimeter, so it's very hard to push it. but I dont really care, I use double tap to lock and unlock it!
-back cover. it's good and has grip, nice color and wotever...but it's very very slim and flexible. due it's so slim, antenna works like a blackberry but I m afraid it will destroy itself easily, bcs it's already starting to be flexible at my touch.
-screen: awsome , color are very good, but a more calibrated temperature can improve it. it's not blueish like some reviewr says...but a better temperature could improve its gamma as well, that s very high (I used to calibrate televisions some years ago so I have a special look on screens). at a first look , find7a screen is like an LG g2 screen with a wrong calibration (but more realistic colors ).
-It arrived with a dead pixel , but it s impossible to notice it due it's a full-hd screen, so I really dont give a shot about it.
-yellow screen, there's a yellow ghost at the base of the screen for 2 millimeters...but believe me guyz, I v seen ppl going crazy on forums for this, It's something u can notice only on a completely white screen and if nobody tells u, your not going to see it! but if u love perfection, I can say that it went away after some days of usage...I m sure it's glue and it takes some days of warm screen to be fixed.
-optional case: tnx oppo to send me such a gift in real leather, but I trash it after 1h. software doesnt support this case, having it in my pocket means it opens itself and screen goes on, but when u close it , the screen stays on anyway. I have to open it to pick up a call! wtf! why does it have such a window if I have to open it???
-warranty: oppo policy in europe is to send the phone I dont know where in europe, they will send I dont where in china, someone I dunno will decide if I have to pay to repair the phone. anyway I will pay to ship it. Ok, I accept to save 300€ on s5, m8, z2...and get 1+ if I destroy my find7...
just my opnion, everyone has his needs, wot is good for me can be bad for u...

So what is standby time after your fixes? People complained that the phone drains 50% of battery over night. So if the phone can't keep charge for 2-3 days it is useless for me. I do not use phone lot, so always forget to charge, so I need 2-3 days at least and I am getting 5 days with my current Nexus One.
So apparently 2.0b didn't fix the SD card issue so I'm just going to put in my old 16gb Sandisk that I've been using for a year and half and see what it does. If it works then I'll just assume the card I was sent is faulty/fake. Read speeds are between 20-35 megabytes while copying stuff off of the card onto my hard drive so that seems a bit slowish?

Touchscreen Input Issues

Hey, had my Z1 Compact for a week now and I've noticed a very annoying issue where sometimes when using the touchscreen to drag, say for predicitive text, the drag line will stop and then restart after missing some of the screen. This is results in having to retype a lot of text, and also requires multiple attempts to unlock the phone with a pattern.
I've replicated this in Settings --> About phone --> Diagnostics --> Test Device --> Touchscreen.
Basically if I keep trying to draw a 4 on screen for example, maybe 2/10 times it will miss part of the drawing. This isn't always the same part, so I dont think it's a dead section of screen.
Anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? BTW I've not put any screen protectors on yet, not even the one in the box as it looks like thats just a replacement for the factory fitted one.
Cheers
Many users are having this problem including me. I have faced this issue just once so I am waiting to get the issue again before going to service centre.. This problem is common in micromax and sony devices.. And from my previous experience I can clearly tell that this is hardware problem.. Dont know how some people told it software issue.. Day by day this problem will increase and soon the screen will be unusable.. I can say that charger may have some relation with this because in my previous micromax the problem started while charger is plugged in and after some days the problem began without charger..

Good point about charging. I have experienced this with previous phones whilst plugged into a cheap charger. I put it down to the charger not being powerful enough. In the instance I mention above, the battery is fully charged and not plugged into the charger. Plus the only charger I've used so far with it was the official one in the box.

You might wanna use some other charger I haven't actually faced this problem more tab once cause I've used the original charger only a few times N it's in best interest to use a lower output rated charger might take longer, but it's best for the phone N it's battery

I dont think the charger is the issue as it happens when it's not connected to the charger and it's been rebooted since. This is a different issue to what I talked about with previous phones and cheap charges whilst actually charging.
I've searched the net and it looks like a fairly common issue with some Z1s and Z1 Compacts:
http://johnhaller.com/blog/2014-03-06--sony-xperia-z1-z1s-touch-screen-issue
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Touchscreen-loosing-touch-issue/td-p/580111
It sounds like the Z1C can come with 1 of 2 different screens, and only one of them suffers from this problem. Also, if you dont use swipe unlock or swype text then you probably wouldnt have noticed it anyway.
Reading all the comments, it's hoped that a firmware update will fix this, but no confirmation from Sony if they will do this and when.
The place where I got my phone from has offered to replace it so I'll take my chance with another one and hope it's from a different batch that doesnt suffer this! Awesome phone, but having swipe unlock and swype text nearly unusable is a major issue.

I haven't put a screen protector on mine, just wondering if that would somehow help.

I have tried activating Pointer Location in Developer Options since I also sense some sort of problem with screen input like touch being jumpy at times.
When swiping with two fingers, everything seems fine as long as they are far enough. If my two fingers are very close and swipe the screen most of the time, one finger's Pointer Location would break at some point and continue. Can anyone confirm if this is normal? Would like to have a screenshot of this but Pointer track would be lost.
I have an AUO screen by the way, Thanks guys!
So I've had a little test tonight.
Tried finding what screen type I have but it complained about permissions when trying to access the file, it's been mentioned on another thread that access to this was locked on some update. So no idea which panel I have.
Anyway, used PC Companion to Repair the Phone and go back to factory settings. Build number showing as 14.3.A.0.757. Android version 4.4.2.
Ran an update but it says it's already the latest.
With a naked screen (except for the factory fitted anti-shatter film) ran through the touchscreen diagnostic multiple times, and nearly every other test I had a missing part of a swipe.
I put the temporary protective film back on (which came on it already with the little pull tab on the corner, the one that's not fully see-through) and ran through the diagnostic test, and this time I couldn't get a swipe to miss. They were all good!
Took the temporary film off, tried again and it missed bits again. Temporary film back on, re-tests and no missing bits. This may just be a crazy coincidence, but it looks like having a screen protector on fixes this. If you have this problem, give it a try. If it's still problematic, maybe try another screen protector or if you still have that temporary one try the tests a few times with that on.
I've had touchscreen issues for some time now, even with a screen protector on. But since I flashed doomlord's kernel some days ago, everything is fine. I don't know if there are even changes compared to the original kernel, but for me, it worked. Swiping this posting would have been impossible before.

I had the exact issue as the op but since upgrading from firmware 681 to 757, the issue has been resolved. It also resolved the sound bug which I only got occasionally.

Same problem for me
Not exactly the same but screen sensitive problem with z2 tablet
This will help me switch to apple and iPhone 6 after my 5 previous Xperia

A few minor issues - any suggestions?

After buying my P8000 right at the start of August from Everbuying.net, I finally received it yesterday. And I have to say - the vast majority of features/functions of this phone are AMAZING, especially when considering the 160 USD price tag
However, I've noticed a few things:
1. The screen seems a tiny bit unresponsive at times. It also doesn't seem to scroll fluidly when my finger is on the screen; yet, weirdly, if I "flick" the screen to scroll quickly, it appears to transition smoothly.
2. The battery life seems to vary between incredible, and sub-par. Maybe a battery-reading issue?
3. I'm in Australia, so the network bands checked out fine. However, I've noticed that sometimes the 3G simply cuts out, even when I have full signal. When on WiFi though, I get great transfer speeds.
4. The fingerprint reader isn't that accurate.
5. There are 3 dead pixels or specks of dust that I can see (just) on the screen. I remember reading a review saying that they experienced the same issue. Is this common, and could I return my device for a replacement?
Has anyone else experienced these issues? Would Elephone perhaps release a patch that may fix them (other than the dead pixels)? Gotta say - if these issues were removed in future phones, like the Vowney, I think I'll be a customer for life!

Havn't noticed this behaviour at all, did you (by mistake) activate any sort of Power saving mode?

I have amazing battery time all the way Install GSam Battery monitor (or similar) to check if you have any unwanted wake-locks

Dunno
4. The fingerprint reader isn't that accurate.
Mine unlocks the phone super quickly with an accurancy of about 80% the first time
5. There are 3 dead pixels or specks of dust that I can see (just) on the screen. I remember reading a review saying that they experienced the same issue. Is this common, and could I return my device for a replacement?
Didn't hear about this, check with your provider of the phone if its very annoying
Best tips of ALL. Before you go any further you should upgrade to latest firmware. Elephone themself have already released 3 upgrades which solves a lot of issues! So go for latest STOCK or try the excellent ERAGON ROM

I had "Intelligent power saving standby" mode activated, as it was on when I first turned on the phone, but I don't think that influences non-standby?
Even after turning it off, the phone still takes about 1 second to wake from standby upon pressing the on button.

Mine takes a solid second, and only seems to work about 50% of the time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I've tried updating but it says there are no new updates available. How do I know if my phone's on the latest version; and if it's not, how can I update?
Thanks for your reply!

Ahh, you mean when screen is off and locked and you press the power button?

As usual, check in Settings / About phone for the installed version

what about battery life on 4g? i have p6000pro and battery goes down crazy fast when 4g is enabled... but on 3g its quite allright...
For the fingerprint sensor, be sure to register as many finger positions as you can. When you register a finger, you have to repeat 15 times. or so. When you do that, you can slightly move the finger up and down and to the sides each time, so you register a bigger surface overall. The first time I registered the fingerprints I didn't do it this way and the sensor didn't seem to work very well, but after I did it the way I'm telling you, success rate improved a lot, and now it's more on the 90% to 100% range.
