OK to accept Tab Pro 8.4 update? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hi All. I just bought my Tab Pro 8.4 yesterday and already it wants to pull a system update. Build I have is T320UEU1ANAE. I know the bootloader is unlocked (or so I'm told) on this tablet and root is available which trips Knox. On my Galaxy S4 I screwed myself because I had an unlockable bootloader with the MDK build and took the update which locked the bootloader. I just want to make sure I don't repeat a similar mistake on the Tab Pro by accepting this new build. Thanks.

Nobody has an answer? Please? The update nags me every 3 hours.

Samsung has no reason to try to lock the bootloader. You are probably safe. Does it say what version it will upgrade you to?

It does not. Size is 14.33MB. That's it.
UPDATE: I accepted the update. If rooting fails, I'll post in this forum. New build version is T320UEU1ANAI. Was ANAE.

Yes. Flashing anything trips the Knox flag (irreversible afaik) and voids your warranty but otherwise makes no attempt to stop you from flashing whatever you want on it.

New to Samsung devices? I am so it was new for me.
The bootloader is unlocked by default, no need to fastboot oem unlock. To flash though you need to use Odin (google it or just use the one that is with the chainfire autoroot). From there you can flash whatever you want (kernels, recoveries, full ROMs, radios, etc.). I assume that knox will limit bootloader flashing but I prefer not to flash bootloaders anyway (that's your failsafe).

I can tell you this... the Wifi receiver on the Pro 8.4 is far inferior to what's on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. The tablet can't receive any Wifi signal just 30 feet away through a window and 1 wall.
UPDATE: Never mind. I just noticed that my dog knocked the Wifi router onto the floor.

That's all at the carrier's request. Those devices on T-Mobile, for example are usually unlocked. This obviously has no carrier interference, so unlocked.

[Radio][Bootloader] JRO03O Radios and Bootloader

This zip includes a properly patched LTE radio so there is no flashing the old radio then patching it. Also included the CDMA radio and new Bootloader.

These can be flashed over anything. CDMA radio will take a little to flash so just wait.
Any idea of results on this? I hate flashing something just because it's newer.
Any user-visible radio improvement?

Initial reaction, it is night and day difference for me.
I have had a Samsung stratosphere that performed very well with 4G. There were some hiccups but most of that can be attributed to VZW's 4G growing pains back then. I then had a droid 4 that was flawless with 4G. My Gnex? 4G was completely unusable. Within minutes of enabling LTE the data connection would stop working, gmail stops syncing, ect. I have had to leave LTE off all the time. This is in the same location with full bars of 4G signal. I have been running FC radios, JB bootloader and AOKP B1.
With this update it just works. Have only tested for about an hour but that I can already tell it is worlds better. Will report again later after I have tested for a while. It chews through battery like nobody's business though..

Uh, can you explain what you mean by anything except the wrong thing? I always figured that, with a Nexus, you are always okay because you can always just flash the stock images worst case scenario. Except, I was never sure about the bootloader. If you flash a bad bootloader on a Nexus, I would guess you'd be screwed. I have not ever update my bootloader (I think I'm running a 4.0.2 bootloader lol) because I've been petrified of it.

What is the difference in the jellybean bootloader and the ICS bootloader that came with the phone? Just wondering what advantage i would have by using the JB bootloader.

wow my service is amazing at home now, was 1x 1bar and spotty 3g with no bars, but now full bars.1x, and spotty 3g, so at least I don't have to go out side to make a call
edit: flashed bootloader and radio, im on sourcery2.1
so does this mean all the gnex phones that can only use 3g because the signal drops for 4g is fixed? about 1/3 of gnex owners will shout in relief and there will no longer be need to get a recert phone to find the non hardware degrade of 4g.

You can root without any problems using the Note2 Toolkit by going to the root/unroot section and selecting OPTION 4. This will flash the cwm recovery which is known to work and let you install the root zip file (make sure to install the drivers and test them first though).
I know have a stock kernel from the tmobile variant, have rooted it and adding full support to the toolit now. Should be up and running today some time.
Mark.

Downgrading... need 4.1.1 rom. ANYONE?

Before you go to screaming at me for not searching, know that I did. I tried. For 2 weeks now. The only link that's still active is a Hotfile link which doesn't work well for me at all because it keeps giving me an incomplete download. I tried going to Scottsroms to download it and the link is dead. I need the original AT&T - Stock Rooted I317UCALJ2 or even the 4.0.4 version. Anyone with it or a link to it PLEASE help me out. :crying: I'm currently on 4.1.2 btw if that even matters.
Direct download, Zippyshare, 4shared, dropbox, torrents, those have all worked well for me so far.
Thanks people. XDA hasn't let me down yet! :fingers-crossed:
Why would you want to downgrade? And by the way there is no 4.0.4 version

Oh... I thought not. I got mine late in the curve so i didn't know. i seen a few posts mention 4.0... whatever, unimportant. lol. I want to downgrade because after reading around and stuff, I believe that AT&T quietly patched the recently discovered free method of carrier unlocking using the hidden menus in one of the later updates. AT&T is uncooperative in giving me my unlock code as I've been with them less than 6 months and given my current circumstances I really need it unlocked so i can just go prepaid with it.
Anyway to get me back on 4.1.1? Everyone seems bent on using 4.1.2 in everything and the 4.1.1 roms have all died off like the dinosaurs they are. lol. If I'm not mistaken, I317UCALJ2 is the version I need.

Flashing my modem is definitely easier than flashing my whole rom setup again. Will try that NOW. I wonder if I'll re-lock it if I flash it to a newer modem again? We'll see. I think my relationship with AT&T has hit a wall.
Update: Okay... so apparently flashing a modem isn't as easy as I thought... or I'm just pretty noobish. I keep trying to flash it from recovery but it just keeps saying "Failed".

I downloaded zips from that modem thread mentioned earlier, downloaded the modem, and tried to flash... unsuccessfully. They were zips... but I couldn't unzip them... (Tried after they failed me).
What gives?
Tried flashing them from another recovery (Philz to be specific), another no-go... what GIVES?
Edit: Philz is feature rich... but I prefer the GUI of TWRP... not that it matters. lol.
Maybe a bad download? Cus all you should have to do is go in recovery and flash the zip.

Safestrap for Tmobile Galaxy S4?

I saw that the galaxy s4 Verizon version have this safestrap recovery, why there is no tmobile s4 safestrap? Thanks.
Short answer: because we don't need it. The M919 already has an unlocked bootloader which allows us to replace the stock recovery with custom builds such as CWM and TWRP.
Also, nb4lock.

I am interested in someone answering this question - I am selling off by i337 and have bought m919. Will appreciate if someone explains because I read that m919 has Knox, but when I asked I was told its ok to flash recoveries. It confuses me
Basically knox is there to void your warranty. You can root, flash new kernels, and ROMS, but it will flag knox. Doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means that you'll no longer be able to send your phone back to samsung or tmo for warranty service. Flash away!
I tried safestrap while I was on 4.3 just to mess around and it worked fine for me, but as mentioned you don't need it.

So you was on 4.3 with Knox locked bootloader and try safestrap, but you said we don't need it like they said above because the bootloader is unlocked, so that means you have an unlocked bootloader with the 4.3. I don't get it .

Well as far as I know you can root it with a locked bootloader but you void Knox Warranty 0x1. Or I'm wrong that's what I read.
Only if you flash a custom recovery or rom then yes you get 0x1
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
So what do you do to your phone so far
I never upgraded to the full 4.3 firmware, so I'm free to flash any ROM and GSM modem as long as I don't flash the 4.3 or 4.4 LTE modems. Those LTE modems are tied to KNOX and render your phone basically useless if you don't flash the full firmware. But, even if you do flash the full firmware with KNOX, you can still root and flash recovery. The consequence is that the KNOX counter will be tripped and Samsung or T-Mobile will take note of this if the device is ever returned for repair or replacement because tripping KNOX voids your warranty.
KNOX doesn't prevent root or lock your bootloader. Because I never upgraded to KNOX enabled firmware, I can still send my device back at no cost to myself for a warranty claim if I ever need to do so.
I installed six axis controller app to play GTA San Andreas with my PS3 controller, install Xposed to do some modding on my phone

I suggest you to root using towelroot it does not need a custom recovery or Odin, just download the app from the website, install it and make it ra1n! Then install better battery stats and find out their thread, post your logs there as well, good luck!
