8.4 vs 10.1 = portability vs longevity - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hi all,
I'm planning to get one of Samsung's new lineup tablets to replace my LG G pad 8.3 but I can't make my mind which one to get. I like the 8.4 form factor but it has a poor battery (4800 mah) compared to tab pro 10.1 (8220 mah).
A little personal background , I actually use two tablets in my daily life: iPad mini 2 (for browsing, apps) ,and Android powered (for downloading and watching movies and tv shows).
Any word of advice would be highly appreciated

The battery life on the Pro 8.4 is very good for this size tablet. The Pro 10.1 has much more internal area that is why the battery is bigger. The Pro 8.4 has a bigger battery (4800) than your Gpad (4600) and a much better processor. My brother has the retina iPad Mini and the Pro 8.4 has a better screen and the camera is actually pretty good.

Thanks for replying, and yes G pad has 4600 mah which barely gives me 6 hours of screen on time so I figured tab pro 8.4 with higher resolution would fail to achieve even 7 hours in best circumstances. I don't really understand why Samsung didn't provide a bigger mah capacity while apple could with iPad mini 2 which has 6500 mah with the same size (despite square like appearance).

I get 8 to 9 hrs of screen time on the 8.4 with 30% brightness.

I think it is the slippery grip what gives such impression but according to GSMarena http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5735&idPhone2=5946
They surprisingly have the exact wieght 331g, and the ipad mini 2 is just a tad thicker (7.5 vs 7.2).

OT. Help me pick a tablet.

Hi all. It's not often that I start a thread around here. Feel free to keep this going for other people looking to spend their gift cards.
So I am between 2 tabs: Nexus 7 and Galaxy 2 7.0.
From what I'm reading, it looks like the specs are a little better on the Nexus but it's really hard to be a deal I found on a refurb Galaxy tab on Amazon ($170).
The lack of expandable storage and HDMI concern me a little with the Nexus but all reports seen to indicate that it's just an incredible device. Plus if I get the Galaxy tab i kind of feel like I'm just getting a bigger version of this phone.... though it does have official cm support.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help with my 1st world problem.

I picked myself up a galaxy 2 7.0 refurb and I'm liking it. Just fyi, look at walmart online because they have it for $150 refurbish. Just check everyday because they restock often. I was thinking about the nexus 7 but two thing hold me off on it: the lift screen problem and the price.
What is the lift screen issue?

What are your thoughts on only having 16gb? I would plan on having a couple bigger games on it but wouldn't carry music or many movies.

You can pick up a moto Xoom for $219 on N1 wireless XD it has 32 GB of storage plus an SD card slot and a 10.1 inch display

I have the 7.0 plus tab and I love it. I bought my dad the nexus 7 16 gig and having played with it its a top notch device. If I were to buy a device from your choices I would pick the nexus but I would get the 32 gig one. I just believe you can never have enough memory. But I do love having an memory card and it makes everything so much easier. You can't go wrong with either device. I think it comes down to personal preference.

I jist got 2 galaxy tab 2 10.1 for me and my oldest son for xmas. I have to say its a great tab for the money I like it alot better than my nexus 7 due to size and my moms nexus 10 which is the same size but is missing a few features in lieu of bigger proc and ram. Which on the tablet you dont notice really since theres not a lot of phone related stuff running in the background. They also have sd slots for expansion

It's just my personal experience. I had the Tab 2 7.0 for about 5 months and now I have the nexus 7 since day 1. I have it mainly for the kids whether playing games or watching movies. I rarely use it for some reading and browsing.
I have to say there is no comparison. Nexus 7 is a LOT better. The screen is way better whether the specs, visibility, brightness or the dirt and finger print collection. Also, the speed and responsiveness. It is a lot faster and the touch is more accurate and responsive.
The tab 2 is better in terms of extra hardware. A microSD slot, a back camera and an HDMI port. So, if you can get past these, you have to get the Nexus.
I have 4 tablets now (well, the HP is now broken) and I never used the back camera except for testing purposes. Another thing is I never ran out of space. Of course this is very subjective. You can have a couple of 2GB games and that would clutter the space. Also, I have a Google TV and a Wii and they are my entertainment center (though not something to brag about).
So, for me, I would say: Definitely go with the nexus.
I never used a Motorola product, so I don't know anything about it. I just like the 7 inches size better than the 10 inches. It is lighter, easier to handle and the battery usually lasts better.
Hope this helps...
My gt2 10.1 is lighter than my kindle fire and barely different from my nexus 7. Having gps on it is nice tho makes turn by turn easy as hell to use while driving since I dont have to strain to see it. Plus the IR blaster is great my tablet now controls my tv, pc and satellite set top box. I dont use my nexus 7 much anymore between my note 2 and gt2 its become obsolete.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 7 without a doubt. I have the 16GB version and I love it. I have used other tablets (Herotab C8, Asus TF 101) and have handled many others, and without a doubt the Nexus 7 is without a doubt the best I have used. Clean, easy to modify, and most of the development work is pretty stable. It is by far the best one going.

Thanks everyone. I just ordered the nexus 7 32gb from Amazon for $240 including a case. Now is a good time to buy.
Decided that hardware and probably 2 years of updates was most important. Can't wait to play Vice City on this thing!

Yes my toddler has a rooted overclocked tab!! As I used them a bit a 7 in tablet is perfect. 10 inch tabs are big and midas well get laptop out. 7 inch tabs fit in back pocket. Missus has an S3. Apart from being lighter and slightly larger than my HTC DHD it didn't seem special. Still too small to comfortably use as a laptop replacement. It also looks cheaper and more like a toy, my grey note looks considerably smarter.

Reasons I switched to the Note 2 from S3:
1. Stopped eyeing the RAM usage after closing every app.
2 . I barely use my laptop now thanks to the bigger screen for watching movies or editing documents on the go, the S3 could handle it but the screen just felt small and the Note2's S pen helps alot especially with lower DPI.
3. Newer than the S3 and felt like it would be a while before it goes outdated, again it's partly because of the additional RAM which makes it feel future proof for the next year or so.
4. My wife has an S3 and I felt like since I'm bigger than her I should have a bigger phone
5. Because of the wider screen, the keys are bigger and it's more comfortable to type on with both thumbs.
6 . because I think I deserve the best!

Unless you don't want a big screen phone, there isn't anything better about the S3 compared to the Note II. The Note II is better in every way possible. If you are truly on the fence about the two devices, then let me tell you to stop wasting you time comparing the S3 vs the Note II and start comparing the S4 vs the Note II.

[Q] New Nexus or Asus MeMo HD 7 ???

Gamestop - Asus MeMo Pad HD 7
Anyone going to pick this up instead of a new N7???
Nope. Nexus. That. Is. All.
Well, it's not replacing my n7. But for $50 less than an n7. Someone might be interested. It's certainly better than the $100 tablets @ Big Lots.

Memo sucks. Has a no name chip running on an older ARM architecture. The N7 is better already, let alone the New Nexus.

New Nexus for the win :good:
For 70 dollars less for the 16G version, it's a souped up version of last year's Nexus 7. Basically older N7 with better battery life, better screen (not resolution), additional camera, microSD, stereo speakers, but runs slightly slower. I'm very tempted but will wait until CM10 is ported over to it.
I don't intend to ever buy another non-Nexus Android device. Just my opinion, but the developer communities are so much better for Nexus devices, along with fast updates, true Android experience, etc.
I ended up buying a new N7 this morning - I just couldn't help myself.
Though for only $150 the Memo HD 7 still looks like a hell of a bargain for the features it offers.

No it isn't. It is a piece of junk from what I've read. Great tab for a child or wife to serve a single purpose but not as a daily driver. The oddball SoC is not very good.

Nexus because of the screen
Besides it's processor, what else concerns me are the edges of the Memo Pad 7 HD. Apparently where the back and front halves meet along the edges the back half plastic is 1cm wider making a sharp edge on the sides that dig into your fingers. Reviewers complain about this being uncomfortable.
I learned a long time ago (well 2 and a half years to be exact) that Nexus is the only way to go.
Yea my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 was stuck at gingerbread. It recently got CM10 and barely. My only non nexus phone was a LG G2x, nuff said.
You work so hard trying to make it into a "nexus" that you just set yourself up for failure.

Nexus 7 vs nexus 5

Hi,
So I have a nexus 5 and love it. I've just been given a few hundred pounds bonus at work to spend on "gadgets" and can't really think of anything to buy, and I've always thought about getting a tablet.
I just wanted to ask, since I have a nexus 5 is there much point? The only benefits I can see are bigger screen, longer battery life and probably better for playing games and watching movies on. Is there any other benefit to having a nexus 7? Does anyone here own both and regret/recommend it?
Thanks in advance,
Jack

I own both plus a stay at home iPad 4. I get great use out of all of these devices.
Have both, the N7 WiFi version. The N7 does everything but phone calls much more conveniently when I'm at home because of the larger screen and extended battery life. If you're thinking about getting an iPad I'd recommend he N7. I had an iPad and replaced it with the N7 and have no regrets whatsoever.
I had a G'Nex + N7 2012 for the last year. Got my N5 last week and it made my N7 feel so sluggish I started thinking about getting the 2013 N7 with free shipping + $25 Google play credit. On black Friday I saw 32GB N7 on sale for $225 so figured I'd go for it. While it's still not as crazy fast as the N5 it's a nice upgrade over the old N7, and while I use my phone when I'm mobile, when I'm laying in bed or sitting at a desk I prefer the larger screen for other than phone purposes.
So yes, it's great owning both.

[Q] LG G Pad vs Tab Pro 8.4

Planning to buy a 8inch tablet. Would like the owners of the tablets, to tell the opinion, which is smooth? I like the multi window in samsung but is it smooth? I saw a review and it was little slow. Thank you in advance
I had the G Pad first and it was really nice. I loved the knock on feature but for my taste the screen was too dim, mainly for movies. Exchanged it for the Tab Pro 8.4 and couldn't be happier. Awesome screen. The only lag I have noticed is a slight pause when scrolling over to the Magazine ui, which I only do accidentally.
