Nice. I just popped a 64GB card in. The lack of external (and internal) storage is what kept me from buying a Nexus 7. It's ridiculous that they won't put in a simple expansion slot just so they can sell them in different capacities. Well, their loss.

Dunno about that. It's possible in the Google Music app to move music files to external sd card so there is support.

At the current price, no. You can pick up a 64GB card for $35 - $40. Thus you can pick up 5 - 64 GB cards at this price. I know it's not as convenient to have a single large capacity card, but to me, it's too expensive right now. Give it 6 months and it will be considerably cheaper.

Thanks!

Good point. Maybe I should have read this before I bought the card.
But I am not regretting it as I don't think I can wait another 6 months and I am pretty sure I'll lose some cards if I'm using multiple cards . Now I can put many of my 1080p videos on the device!! yay!

Thanks! I appreciate having actual user confirmation this works. LG's manual and the Google Play store both indicate that there is an artificial 64 GB limitation to microSD cards on this device, which is really stupid considering that it's both a lie and it makes the device look far less useful than it really is! I only have one device that works with 64 GB cards in exFAT format but not 128 GB cards in exFAT, but it's a camcorder. The general state of SD support is a huge mess, even for technically-minded customers.

Hi, I just get this 128 Gb Sandisk for my LG PAD 8.3. It recognize 119Gb which is fine but I can't copy any file on it !
I tested it on Windows and the copy is OK.
What kind of file manager are you using with the Sandisk ? I am using daily ES Explorer with a 64Gb and it can copy any file anywhere.
It seems ES can't deal with this Sandisk. Same issue with the default file manager that comes with the LG pad 8.3
Thanks in advance for your help !

give this a try and see if you can write to the sdcard afterwards.

Peener81, actually finding no other solution 2 days after that post I rooted my brand new GPAD 8.3. Void warranty, but the issue is fixed ! ES explorer or the default explorer can now write on the Sandisk 128 GB.
Anyway thanks for your help !

What brand Class 6 SD card?

What brand of Class 6 SD card should I buy? I see TOPRAM, Transcend, and Nokia but not popular ones like Kingston and Sandisk..
According to this it says Class 2 SD cards might as well be as good as Class 6.

Class 2's performance-price ratio might be higher than Class 6. But only considering performance, I prefer Class 6.

Class 6...meh...you need 16gb Kingston Class 10. That is if your device can handle it.

Consider that the Sandisk cards may have a longer lifespan and be more reliable, which is a major plus point if you're going to be using the camera to take pictures of sentimental value.

Anyways, I haven't read all that great of reviews on the kingston class 10's. And for 100.00, I can get 2 of the adata class 6 16gb. I think I will pick 1 of those up next time newegg has them instock.
The 16gb sandisk class 2 that comes in the hd2 can drag the phone down if you don't format it once in a while.

Is this really worth the extra ~10$ ish than the sandisk 16gb? From reviews I have read the, average read/write speed on the sandisk CL2 is about 6.5MB/s which is what the CL6 is "rated for"

yes you are right!!!

Captivate Glide is compatible with microSD XC 64GB [Edit]

I just received my brand new SanDisk microSD XC 64Gb.
Took some time to copy all data from my previous 32Gb microSD.
I ejected the 32Gb and replaced it by the 64Gb ... Glide wasn't able to detect the card ... at all !
On windows, file system info is : extFAT (not FAT32).
I read somewhere that most of the latest phones are compatible with this new 64Gb card.
Does this mean that current Glide ROM doesn't have the extFAT drivers embeded ?
I'll try later this 64Gb memory card on a HTC doubleshot (MT4GS).
So, more to come !
Edit : it works .... microSD 64GB needs to be formated with the device (Glide) !
You probably already know this but, the manual states that it supports up to 32GB Micro SDHC only.

Yes, I do know this.
But it has been reported that latest HTC and Samsung devices (Galaxy S II) can read/write this type of microSD card, even if user manual states that device supports only 32GB SDHC.
So I was wondering... why not our device...
I remember seeing that if you format the card on the phone first it should work and recognize all 60ish GBs. This was on a SGS2 though.
Edit: Here is the video where I saw this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYUg14u_co8

Do you actually get the 30MB/Sec transfer speed the Micro XD card supports on the Glide? Just wondering as it normally does not support that card so are you reaping the full benefits in size and speed?

Size: My previous 32GB was full. I copied all that stuff on the new 64GB and added a few more (large) files. So it does the trick, for now.
Speed : I used SD Tools and it gave these results:
Writing speed : 7.1 MB/s
Reading speed: 18.9 MB/s (with a peak at more than 23MB/s)
This is no 30MB/s but it works great.
Thank you for confirming this, I'm liking this phone even more now!
So it's not slower than a officially supported MicroSD card? have you noticed any read/write lags, delays or any other issues?
No, no lags at all (for now).
I can listen to music (stored quite a lot on it), watch movies with a decent bitrate.
It is not the fastest card I've ever seen, but it does its job and brings large storage capacity !
* Up to 30 MB/sec read speed. Write speed lower. Based on SanDisk internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device. 1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes.

My 8GB Sandisk only managed 3.9MB/s Write and 8.3 MB/s read using sd tools so I think these results are great and definitely show a bright future for this phone.

Bought a 64gb Sandisk Sdxc from the online shop you have linked: it never worked, with any mobile up to a Galaxy S3, not just my Captivate Glide, nor my friends smartphones.
Also, using the sdxc with the provided adaptor didn't work either, with many different computers. The SDXC is never recognized by anything.
Every time I have inserted the card on a device, it started overheating.
I have asked mobymemory to either replace the item or refund my money, they never replied.
To me these makes them a bit shady as sellers, not likely to be legit, if not total scammers.
Actually this 64.GB works really great.
Got it working in the captivated glide, and now it works as well in my S3 !
Fyi: I also used it with a S2 (no format required after initial format with the Glide).
No overheating in any of these devices.
The only thing you have yo keep in mind is format the sdxc with the Glide (at least once). Then phone will be able to use it. Using the adapter will allow you to use it with Windows platforms...
Don't try to format it with windows... Glide won't recognize it at all.
About mobymemory, I bought from these guys a few memory cards (micro .sd, CF, ...) : never had any issues with these. Right now I think they are quite reliable.
Hope it helps !
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
The stuff you wrote is obvious. I am speaking about the fact that it's impossible to format; that the adaptor doesn't work, and that the SDXC overheats, doesn't matter where I put it. Their service is completely unresponsive.
Good for you that it worked (for you), but given I bought from them after solely reading your post, I am not accusing you but I want to warn others, so they can compare two very different experiences with the same online store (they look to be an ebay also) and product, and make their decision.
Anyone uses these type of memory cards on ICS? Any experiences?

From working for Sprint and from personal experience, I've found that a Class 10 is better for taking pictures with the camera and for file transfers, but with your phone (especially this model), it would appear the most efficient way to manage your data would be to store media (music, videos, backups obviously) on the external sd, and to allowed internal storage to be used for taking pictures. If you do this, Class 6 is perfectly sufficient for media playback.
And if you're worried about your pictures being lost in the event of a phone catastrophe, Google+ or Dropbox or anothr of the auto-backup services you can use for free are perfect!

I have 8gb of music on my phone currently, and about 250gb of movies on my external HDD with 400gb of TV series on top of that. Of course I don't watch all of these, they're mostly there just for collection, but there are some series that I do like watching in my spare time and the more options the better, right? I also want some spare memory space just in case I want to record video on my phone too. I was thinking about getting the 64GB SDXC but if the 128GB version works I will definitely be buying that.
now don't quote me on this, though it should work - I don't see why it wouldn't, since the S3 supports SDXC (and the 128GB is SDXC).

From my understanding, the galaxy s 3 only supports the micro sd sdxc up to 64gb.
But you never know it might just work.
Though, than again, there might be a reason why samsung capped it at 64. Maybe above that, it's
easier for data to be lost and or corrupt? (Just speculation and not a fact)

or it could just be that at this point in time, 128GB micro-SDXC cards don't exist.

And when it is released you are probably looking at close to 100 price tag.

They're selling them at Amazon and I was wondering if it worked with the S3 before I bought it.

The term sdxc means extended capacity and has nothing to do with the physical size of the card itself.
Sdxc can be in sd size (think cameras), micro sd(our phones) and mini sd (not really used anymore)
I think the xc would start at 32gb and up. So anything 32gb or higher would be sdxc
For your phone you want a microsd.. Weather a sd, sdhc or sdxc.
As long as it's a microsd....
Google images for it so you can see what the card should look like.

Not sure if that was a hidden dart of sarcasim, but I was obviously refering to when the 128gb micro sd card becomes available as I know they aren't yet.
My guess is the phone manufactures do set limits on paper but actually have their devices capable and ready to accept (such as in this case) bigger sd cards.
I've seen this before, for example, the GALAXY SII micro sd memory acceptance was capped at a max of 32gb, but in reality was and is able to accept a 64gb micro sd card!
Well, I hope that when the 128gb micro sd card is finally released (which is just around the corner) it'll work with the GS3.
A guy can dream-----eh (*_*)
Android itself supports up to 2tb, the limitation is the sd card hardware, on cheap phones they only work with max. 16 for example.

most limits (in the same hardware/tech class) are limits of TESTING not limits of COMPATIBILITY
a long time ago they designed for specific sizes but now a days they design for "class" of tech.
ie Fat16 is limited to fat 16 fat 32 is limited to fat 32 etc.. etc..
SO as long as its SDXC in theory it "should" work unless they for some reason Coded in a limit (not likely)
they say 64gb because that is what they could "test" at the time that they made the unit.
sorry

I have 8gb of music on my phone currently, and about 250gb of movies on my external HDD with 400gb of TV series on top of that. Of course I don't watch all of these, they're mostly there just for collection, but there are some series that I do like watching in my spare time and the more options the better, right? I also want some spare memory space just in case I want to record video on my phone too. I was thinking about getting the 64GB SDXC but if the 128GB version works I will definitely be buying that.

Hmmm, I could have sworn that I replied earlier. I wonder if I post in the wrong thread.
Anyway, I am using the Sandisk 64GB class 10 micro SD. Here's the one that I use: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B005V7WIA2
If you're using stock kernel, it should work as is. If not, you'll need to ensure that it's either formatted as exFAT or FAT32.

I haven't notice anything yet, but I don't have any to compare with though. As far as I know, it only matter if you're using memory card for DSLR burst mode picture, other than that, it shouldn't matter much, but I might be wrong. But for the phone usage, I haven't quite notice anything yet. I did install System Tuner and adjusted the SD cache size to 2 MB which seemed to also help a lot.

That's good to know. I personally haven't feel any slowness, but maybe I'm not using it a heavy as I thought. I mostly use it to play music, take pictures, shoot small videos, etc.
Ok just to let you know
Bought this one Genuine SAMSUNG Micro SDXC 64GB Memory Card Class 10 PRO UHS-1 / 64G

Works perfect!!
I would be hesitant to spend so much money on a 64gb card when flash memory has such a high failure rate. You can't trust flash memory. Always always always have recent backups. If I didn't make myself clear, always have current backups.
