[Q] Hangouts MMS Problems - Verizon HTC One (M7)

So I have read a lot of phones and users are having issues with hangouts MMS feature. I happened to be one of them. Other threads suggest changing the APN settings within the hangouts app. Was hoping someone who has no problems with it would post their settings.
For the record I am stock 4.4.2 rooted w/ TWRP. The exact problems I have are delayed reception of MMS, and trouble sending periodically.

Bump, is anyone else having these issues?

There was a crash of some kind this morning on the Google Hangouts servers.

This is an on going issue for me. Only with MMS messages. For example me and my SO will be on a group MMS together and she will get the message an 10 to 20 min before me and I won't receive any other messages from the group unless I send a message after them. Sending a message often fails or takes much to long.
Would you mind posting your APN settings in hangouts if you don't have these issues?

I don't mind, but I don't use messages or hangouts.

MMS Issues

I'm having some issues with mms messages on my phone. I have searched on google and the forums. I haven't found anything to help me yet. My mms messaging was working fine I sent and received several messages the day before. I installed gosms pro and used it for a day and a few people sent me some mms messages. The messages werent downloading. I would keep clicking on the download button but a few minutes later it would say it failed and show the download button again. I uninstalled gosms and I still cannot download mms messages even in the stock messages app. At first I thought it was the network, but i put my sim card in my old iphone and it was receiving picture messages without issue. I have tried everything i could think of short of reflashing because I don't want to have to spend hours setting up all of my apps and settings again. I don't know if I am missing something. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance for any help.
My carrier forces me to send and receive mms over 3G. I am unable to send or receive using Wifi. Do you have 3G truned on and network coverage? If not try that. Also check the Access Point Names (apn) are the same on both phones.
Check in the apps settings as there are sometimes filter settings (max size etc.) that can be changed. From personal experience AtAT limits the size and theres no way around it.

I have signal. I can make calls just fine and browse the internet without problem. It is only when sending mms messages. That is why I am confused. I set the apn settings back to default then checked those entries against what others were saying here and they are all correct. I even went and cleared the app data of the messaging app to reset all of its settings.
New development. Now I can't send sms messages. I just tried this morning to send a few text messages and it just keeps saying that the message failed to send. I have no idea if im not receiving incoming messages now, but I haven't gotten any since yesterday afternoon. What could possibly cause all incoming and outgoing messages to stop working? i don't get it.

MMS problems

Is anyone else having MMS issues? I can never get MMS messages to send. Its rather annoying. I've heard of people adding a custom APN but my button to add an APN is greyed out.
The only thing I can do is toggle airplane mode a few times to get the messages to go through but it doesn't always work
Went to the sprint store today and they were baffled.
I have. New update 5/11 should take care of that. If you clear your cache it will take care of it.
Worked great man. Cleared cache on hangouts and MMS service seemed to do the trick

that's what i did after update picture would not go through and text takes a long time to send
cleared app cache and data
all is right in the world with sms
I have had a similar issue and it was fixed by turning wifi off and the message would send
My APN settings can't be edited. It doesn't let me edit, only create NEW APN's. I have my MSL and still cant change my APN settings. I could use the hotspot on the S6 SM-G925P. I'm currently non-rooted due to the recent 5.1.1 Firmware version update. Thanks.
There has always been an issue with sprint phones + Google Hangouts + MMS. For some reason hangouts will only send and receive MMS over data. If you want to test it connect to wifi, try to send an MMS over hangouts (notice that your data icon in the top bar will show). If you have poor data reception your MMS might not even send and the phone radio can get very hot. Now disable hangouts and use the stock messaging app to send an MMS. Notice that the MMS sends fine over wifi and does not activate your data.
I really love hangouts, but the inability to send and receive MMS over wifi is a deal breaker for me. Turning on data every time I get an MMS is a battery killer for me. I doubt Google/sprint will ever address this issue as it has been going on since hangouts released when I had an S2.

My experience has been the same since S2 also. Read all the MMS threads. Tried all kinds of changes to APNs. Most of the time I was running CM and blamed it for the issues. Finally tried Textra to find no problems with MMS. My conclusion was Hangouts. You can follow this Google thread if you have a couple hours to spend. All breeds of Hangouts users with same problem, with very little response from Google. My hope was for Hangouts to be for Android what imessage is to IOS. No such luck, but still hopeful. Until then, I use Textra with no problems.
I've been attempting to use XHangouts and the APN splicing feature to get Hangouts 4 to send / receive MMS through my carrier number, and no dice. Has anyone gotten this working on the Sprint S6? I'd, in theory, love to be able to use Hangouts for both the new Voice group chatting AND normal MMS functions but it seems like I can either downgrade to Hangouts 3 or deal with using another SMS client for carrier MMS.

[Q] Sprint LG G4 Spliting SMS

Before I switched to sprint I had used T-Mobile LG G3. The default messaging app split long text messages into two or three, and I received long messages in similar chunks. But I used the Textra messaging app and it ceased to do that. Long messages sent as one as well as receiving 500+ character text.
Now, being with sprint the problems have re-appeared and I an unable to fix it. Textra does not change the sms limits so I send multiple text to friends and likewise with receiving. This is not a huge issue just a major inconvenience and a nuisance.
Are there setting I'm messing, apps that will help, anything i can do to keep long message as one? Please and thank you for your help.
I think it's a Sprint issue. I've been with them for a long time and always remember this happening. However, if there is a fix, I'd love to know it also.

Sprint has the 160 character limit for SMS texting. If you want to text longer messages as a single message, you either need to use an instant messaging app like Google Hangouts (though those require the recipient to also have the messaging app), or find a texting app that can convert long messages to MMS if it goes past the 160 character limit. These solutions will convert the SMS to MMS or other forms of data, though, so just be aware of that if you have some sort of data limit.
If the converting SMS to data is not a viable solution, a quick google search revealed this app: BigSMS, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skezza.main&hl=en.
It supposedly can make long texts, but I have never used it myself, so I can't comment on if it works or not.

As I said before, I used Textra in the past and my messages were sent as one and I received long messages as one. I recently downloaded EvolveSms which fixed the issue of my messages being split by converting them into MMS (which i have no problem with at all) but I still got 4 separate chunks of their message. I know there's an option to reassemble split messages but it seems to not be working. I'll go to a sprint store to see if there's an issue there or not.

Ok, Good luck with with the Sprint customer rep. The split SMS thing never bothered me since I've been on Sprint for a very long time. However, I did a quick google search, and it does seem like some devices have native support for recombining received SMS messages, like the Sprint Galaxy S 5, so it does look like it can work. Hopefully they can do it on the G4 as well.

Hangouts taking priority over Messages

I have been having this issue since yesterday morning where as the title describes that hangouts is taking priority over messages. I literally will not receive messages unless hangouts is selected as the default app. I was thinking that this may have been started once I got a bunch of updates through the play store. However, I uninstalled updates and disabled Hangouts attempting to force the problem to stop. This to no avail.
So is anyone else running into issues such as this. Or, does anyone have any advice as to how I could remedy this issue. I know it is quite silly, but I love being able to use GIFs while texting people and hangouts doesn't support googles GIF keyboard for some reason.

This is a tough one. I've been there before but it was a while ago and I found the answer I believe on G+ but let's see if we can get you back on track here. Under settings->apps-hangouts what shows under SMS app? Click it and make sure at the bottom that sms app is showing Messages. Also in the Hangouts app itself go to settings and make sure SMS is disabled. Let's start there.

So yeah I have already done that. Messages will send the message, but the received message will come in through Hangouts. I am going to do a factory reset when I get home (the wifi at my office is terrible). I will see if that makes any difference. I hate to have to resort to that, but I wasn't having this issue prior to the most recent updates.
So I figured out the problem. I am on Project Fi. Within hangouts there is a setting in accounts that takes all calls and SMS through hangouts. Turned that off and now I am good.

Long Delayed MMS

I'm having a consistent problem where text messages in a group text (MMS) are LONG delayed both in sending and receiving. If I login to Verizon Messages online, the messages come through timely, so I'm thinking it must be something specific with the phone.
I generally use Google Messages as the default SMS app, but I've tried using the stock Samsung as well as the Verizon Messages+ app and the same issue persists.
Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks!

I've been rocking Signal SMS and it's been pretty solid thus far.
