features missing on Tab Pro 8.4" ?? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

just exchanged my Tab Pro 10.1" to the smaller 8.4" Tab Pro..
noticed two things missing on the Tab Pro 8.4"
1: screen adjuster (mode to choose between Dynamic, Standard and Movie)
2: Reeding mode
tried resetting it but still missing...
thought the would be the same on both 8.4" and 10.1" ?

buddy there are a lot of differences between these two slates
whether it be price or features
so i think you get my point
you should stick to what you have and wait for updates which may solve your problem
wait with fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

It's not a "problem"
but those two things is almost standard on most Samsung Units.. and in reviews of the 8.4" Tab pro I can see on screenshots that the Reading mode is there ?
the difference between them should not be so much if you choose the Snapdragon 800 version of the 10.1" tab pro...

Witch Tab Pro do you have, 8.4", 10.1" or the 12.2 ?? since all of your answers are so helpful..
And by the way it was a Review picture I saw it on the 8.4"
So all i Really want to know... what about other Tab Pro 8.4" owners in here ?

Not on my 8.4. I have both options on Note 10.1 2014 and on Note 8.0, under display settings. Not on TabPro 8.4.

I don't have either, either.

ALL APPS TO MULTI WINDOW hi guys I didn't want to start a new thread so I thought I would ask the question here. Is the only way to achieve this via root, and if so does it trip the knox counter?

Looks like no way to add widgets to lock screen as well.

From what I've read rooting always trips the Knox counter and there is no workaround as of today (Mar 22nd).

I noticed there was no reading mode as well. Weird as my tab 3 8.0 had it as a standard feature.
What I really wish they had added was a mini HDMI out... There are many cheap tablets out there (like the Dell 8") that have it as a feature. No need for slimport or mhl adapters (many of which don't work). Just plug in a tiny mini HDMI to HDMI adapter and away you go.
I get that Samsung expects us to buy their $70 adapter but it's just a pain to use a dongle.
Also, widgets on the lock screen and "knock on/off" were two of my favorite features on the LG G Pad. Surprised they didn't have something similar on the Tab Pro.

face unlock. why did samsung rip it from KK?! i love it on my other android devices.

I've been surprised by the lack of screen adjustment also. In fact I was just reading this thread to see if there's an updated official firmware release which I haven't seen since I'm rooted.

I took a look at the 8.4 Pro for the first time today. When I saw it had no display mode options it became a instant 'no purchase'. So I'll be sticking with the Note 8.0 for the foreseeable.

Go into device/lock screen, under swipe options turn on "shortcuts" set shortcuts on lockscreen.
then go into it and you can remove the default 5 app shortcuts and add your own (up to 5). Then you can swipe from the icon on the lock screen directly into the app in question.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm talking about widgets, not shortcuts to apps.

You are right. Weird though, I can put widgets on the lock screen with the Tab 3 8.0 but not the newer model.

Looks like they removed it in new touchwiz, same thing on galaxy s 5, no widgets on the lock screen.

[Q] For the brave developers. Assure view without spen

I love GMD spen gesture controlling app.
Samsung has made things in these phones that the finger touch will not work when spen is on screen. It's pretty much super and useful. But, I saw GMD gesture controlling app working while I'm writing in the screen with spen. It's an error. But here I'm not asking you to fix it. I appreciate it, because you could do it with your app. Now what I need is that, air view feature without spen. The Note series models (NOTE2, 10.1,8) uses the same features that xperia sola or today's release, s4 for the air view. So I think that Samsung had restricted finger air view feature for the promotion of spen, same as restricting finger touch while s pen in use. Since GMD gesture controlling app could remove the restriction of finger touch while spen in use, I hope that you could do this too(air view without spen). so I request you to try it. So can you?
I guess bumping up the touch sensitivity could do it.
But there are two problems:
1. I don't know if the sensitivity on our device can go that high.
2. There is no supported software. You won't get previews as the software on the Note 2 is build for Air View by the S Pen, and would not recognize Air View with a finger.
But, s4 has same technology..

But, s4 and note 2 shows same software features in air view. S4 is by hand and note2 by s pen. Also, the technology is same. What I guess is that Samsung would make it happen in next update. But I wish to get it early. The update will take2 months or so long. They will need s4 to click the ground.
Take a look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190830
Edit: Most of the features announced for the S4 will not come to previous devices like Note I & II and the S3. Not officially anyway, because that would harm S4 sales.
So...don't count on official airview on the Note 2, ever.
Maybe Note 3!

But the software wouldn't know what to do with the finger hovering, devs will need to rewrite parts (if possible, I'm not sure) so the app would pop the text/image/anything else.
Always, the profit is for Samsung

No it's not the truth. If companies fear such type of sale affection, apple wouldn't have provided the iOS6 update for previous iPhone models. The note 2 released with unique multi window feature and see currently the previous released s3 and note 1 got it. Also, if Samsung fears the affection for their super phone, then they wouldn't have released the galaxy grand. We should think things in the other way, if the update bring same features of s4 to note 2, n2 is going to be the best with unique spen features. It may affect the sales of s4, but it never affect the profit if Samsung. Whatever the model is, phone is of Samsung's.

Any source and note 2 features like air view came to note 1 and s3 also then why we will not get s4 features?? Maybe we will get it after some months or so...
The S3 does not have air view.
@OP
Note 2 is bigger and has double the RAM of the S3. Plus the S- Pen.
So they have no fear to also boost S3 a bit as well.
But the S3 and S4 do not have many differences in hardware with each other so Samsung has to make them a bit different also software wise as well as hardware wise because the hardware is not improved enough for an S3 owner to make the jump.
This is my thinking.

But Samsung released galaxy grand at lower price specs same as s3. for Samsung, all those are not a problem. If they consider so, then they wouldn't have released the updated touchwiz upgrade for note1. Note 1 and note2 look pretty similar.

Samsung will release an update by the end of may that is after two months of s4 launch.

i think it is possible on the s4 beacause it has a more sensitive touch(u can use it with gloves)... and that is a hardware feature, so it is not likely that our note 2 will have it ever...
Can anybody help me to get this feature? I want to open popup note without using s pen's done tap. What I mean is a way to add shortcut in home screen

As the title says, should i sell my ipad 4 for a Tab Pro 8.4 ?
I hardly use my ipad as i don't feel the need to pick it up and there's nothing on it that draws me to use it.
Whats peoples opinions with tablet, are there any considerations i should make i.e known issues etc ?
If i was to get the tab 8.4 ill be flashing cyanogenmod on it strait away, are there any alternative tablets that i should consider that have cyanogenmod support or is this one of the best options on the market ?

I used an iPad Air before switching to Tab Pro 8.4. Overall I prefer Tab Pro for the following reasons.
1. Lighter - Easier to use with one hand.
2. Google Chrome - So much better than Safari on iPad Air which keeps crashing. Might be due to the small amount of RAM that the iPad has.
3. Easier to transfer files to the tablet. Any apps can access the files on the sdcard as well.
4. Easier to write an app and install it - there is no need for a paid dev account just to install an app to your own device.
That said, there are still some things that are better on the iPad in my opinion:
1. Multitasking gesture.
2. Screen. iPad's screen is still slightly better, I think. Auto brightness also works better on the iPad. Also PDF reading is better on iPad's 10" screen.
3. iPad Air's A7 SoC has better single thread performance than Snapdragon 800 in Tab Pro 8.4. This doesn't apply to you though, since iPad 4 uses A6 which is slower.
The only issue I had before flashing CM11 is the horrible TouchWiz

I just traded a 1st Gen iPad and a 3rd Gen iPad in at bestbuy (flash 1 day $100 off sale!) last night to get the Tab Pro 8.4. Neither were being used, I basically looked at them to see if I needed to charge them and having switched to a Nexus 5 as well as having a Nexus 7 I really never used the iPads. The 8.4 is much better than the iPad1/3 IMO, and the 1st Gen N7 really can't stand up to either. I gave the N7 to my daughter.
Do it, especially if your not using the iPad, better to sell now and get max value than wait and hesitate. You should get close to $200 for it at BB.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice if the gestures are available on stock android without root
Also, I know this is nitpicks, but the iPad's animation for multitouch gesture looks better since it sticks to the fingers. For example, with pinch to home gesture, the app's ui will be scaled down following the fingers' movement. But of course functionality wise they are the same

Ah right - patents.
I think the animation got faster after some iOS 7 update, although moving between apps is still a bit slow on the iPad.
Thanks for all of your input guys, if I can't find a buyer I'll more than likely trade it in some where for about £250 which isn't a lot.
Question is, white or black !

[Q] Are you happy with your note 10.1 (2014 Edition)

I just ordered it and I will have my paws on my Note on Monday. I am very excited but I want to know what everyone else thinks. I have gone back and forth from Android to Apple and back. I wanted to go not only Android but back to Samsung. I am looking at going to the Galaxy Note 4 when that goes on sale next month.
But really. with not having root access (yet) are you still happy with the Note 10.1?
Happy? Yes, very.
I have the P605, so am rooted without knox fuse trip.
It took me a while to choose a tablet, UK Note 10.1" 2014's are only 16GB Wifi only versions AFAIK, and for the money I was spending I wanted better specs, so I had to order a Hong Kong p605 import which allowed me to have 3g/4g and have 32GB storage (64B would have been too much $$).
I was replacing a Note 1 (n7000) so needed something that I could use as a phone too, didn't want to mess with 2 devices, tethering, etc.
The only issue I have so far is a distinct lack of accessories. I wish there was a choice of docks, cases, etc.
So yeah, other than that, very happy, it is fast and smooth and does what I need it to.
Some UK carriers don't allow tablets to be used on their networks, my 3 sim detected and rejected my p605 saying it was not allowed, but that is not really the tablets fault.

First let me say that some people are not happy with anything, and nothing is ever perfect.
I have a stock SM-P600 32 GB and I'm very happy. I also have a Stock GT-8013 that was restored back to stock from root and my wife is happy with it also.
Had my SM-P605 LTE tablet since December and still loving it. Not rooted and with OTA updates I am at KitKat 4.4.2. I use Nova Launcher and it's smooth as butter. No issues whatsoever. Enjoy your new baby
The best tablet ever, even sale my iPad to get this one and I dont regret it. I have upgrade to KK rooted and install custom rom. ?
Am I happy with the tablet? Thats a deffo yes it is truely an awesome tablet.
Am I happy with samsung updates? Thats a different subject lol. Either way overall theres no denying this tablet is amazing but maybe I'm just a tad wierd and slightly annoyed at the way Samsung handles their updates (Still no kitkat in UK 10 months on), I keep blabbering on that this is my last samsung product but who am I kidding - nothing compares in terms of note features. Will have to wait and see haha.
Anyhoo am sure you'll love it

The screen is outstanding, the performance is great, the spen works really well. I don't like that the USB plug is at the bottom of the device. You cannot charge the 10.1 while watching movies in landscape. The 12.2 has the plug on the side.

There is original dock station for our baby and also I have information from official samsung store that this one
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
also will work, still I did not test it yet.
To be in subject. I love my P605 and I hate Samsung that they did not focus more on promotion of it and there is few accessories in the market which you can get to it.
Second thing is the lack of support for many software designed for it. For example:
1. No possibility to unlock your PC(send ctrl+alt+del) when you are connect to it via Samsung Remote PC
2. Few note themes to SNotes - they could add much more
and much more.
Still it is defo worth to get it since it is still the best Tablet with Android in the market(TAB S don't have SPen and Xperia Z2 tablet is only marketing nymber1)
BR.
I have the exynos p600 and am very unhappy with it. I'm used to very fast speeds as I find on my smart phones but Samsung tablets lag way too much. Doesn't matter what specs you load them with. Touchwiz finds a way to hog it down. Tablet is decent..though build is cheap, back plate isn't even leather..its plastic made to look like leather. And the chrome..just awful. But I'm stuck with this as there a very few other android tablets worth swapping for at the moment

Nova helps a bit, but the Kitkat update is probably also enough already.
Sort of; great tablet, great screen, pen is a blessing for school notes and drawings, the processor is a beast and it has enough ram. Now, i dont like almost anything that samsung did with it, it is either useless, buggy, slow or too small a detail to have touchwiz for. I wish i could deal with it installing cm or any other distribution but i have the p600 model so it seems i am ****ed. Sorry if i cant give opinion of roms like hydronium and xkat but i havent tried them because they seem to be only scrambled touchwiz.
All in all, for the price i got it for(around 400$) and with so so writing apps like "write" this is one of the only tablets that let me use it as a notebook so i am mildly happy with it.
TL;DR: Tablet is great, Touchwiz is not that great. Get p605 model.

tab s 10.5 vs note pro vs 12.2 vs butche note 4

I have a note 4 thats messed up. I use it as a tablet.
Should i: exchange it for a Verizon Note Pro, exchange it for a Tab s 32gb wifi, or keeping the note 4.
On my note 4 i use it to draw [sketchbookx + spen], youtube 1080p +, videos of my memory card [720p or less Quality], music, and a lot of browsing.
Of note i use the multi window feature alot, running several things at once. I also like how they minimize to a bubble if u need to get it out of ur way but dont want to closw it.
Note 12.2:
PROS: spen. Bigger canvas. possible update to note 4 muliti window
Cons: not a samoled screen, maybe outdate by now?, older Snapdragon chip, older software
Tab S wifi:
Pros: samoled screen
Cons: not a note device. Exynos chip. ill miss my muliwindow.
Any help?

I would say, you should buy a Tab S, because you can also buy a pen for this tablet. Well it is not that great as the one is for the NotePro, but at least you can also use it like a pen.
Multiwindow feature has been ported to the Tab S, also the NotePro keyboard, so no problem with this things, maybe have a look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107

Why do you prefer the Tab S? Just because of the screen?
Can you give me some info on the pen fof the Tab S? The pen's quality is much more important to be than having a samoled over Lcd. I really dont mind an LCD screen, ive had an ipad before.
I would prefer a Tab S. I may be a little bias because I haven't owned the note one. However the only thing the note has over the Tab S is the S pen. (Please correct me if im wrong) Which has no use to me. So if you really rely on and would like the s pen then for that reason alone I'd imagine the note would be the smarter choice.
Unless your able to somehow use the S Pen on the Tab S. I don't think so but it's weird because when I was freezing apps to debloat I came across a file or two for the S Pen. No idea why.
But what does the Tab S have over the Note Pro 12.2?
Ive seen how nice the screen is on the Tab S. I havent seen the notes pro's screen but i have used a ipad air. So im ok with a LCD screen. The note has the same resolution as the Tab S just a slighyly lower ppi.
So the Screen being "better" isnt enough of a reason to me
Lets say both are the LTE models from Verizon, what does the Tab S do better?

I'm assuming you're talking about the Note Pro 12.2" right? Well, the Tab S is thinnner and lighter than Note Pro, and just overall nicer to hold in the hands. I used both side by site at the official Samsung store and the decision was pretty easy.
I don't know how youy can say screen quality isn't important. The difference between AMOLED vs. LCD in Note Pro is night and day. This was one of the deciding factors for my buying a Tab S instead of the Nexus 9.
Unless you REALLY need the S-pen functionality, the Tab S is the superior tablet. I owned a Note 2 and only removed the S-pen from its silo exactly 3 times (1. to make sure it was there when I bought it; 2. to make sure it worked with Evernote; 3. to show it off to a friend).

I do actually use the spen a lot. Think ill try to get the tablets next to each other to see if the screen rly makes that big of a difference.

[Q] Tab S 8.4 or Tab PRO 8.4?

I currently have an original Nexus 7, which I love but it's getting increasingly laggy and the battery is awful. Though I'm loathe to lose the lovely stock android interface, I'm considering getting a galaxy tab (with a few tweaks it should be bearable!) as they seem to be some of the best on the market at the moment.
The Tab S and Tab Pro (8.4) are both available at John Lewis for £249 and £199 respectively for the wifi versions, and I can't make up my mind which to get.
Any views on which is a better buy? Is the S worth the extra £50? I mostly use my tablet for media - videos, light gaming, news, reading, web browsing, that sort of thing.
I have an T800, but the fight was the same..
I was in the same dilemma, and tried both (S and Pro version).. my answer was obviously, Tab S!
Much slimmer, way better screen, feel good in hands.
You do have some aosp roms for t700.
All I can say about the Tab S is the screen! Truly awesome in which is why I chose this over the iPad. There is a hitch of lag on stock touchwiz. But installing an aosp ROM makes everything better

Tab S!
I recently upgraded from Nexus 7 and i loved it, but i wanted something a little bigger with more storage and after trying Samsung Amoled screens there was no question on what to get. Its thin, light, fast and this screen is just amazing for videos. Im typing this on my Tab S 8.4
The main differences between the pro and the s are the scren types (lcd vs Samoled), the ability to use a digitizer pen like the note uses, ram (2GB vs 3GB) and assorted minor differences.
If video is your main thing then the Tab S is amazing. If you like games better the best is the Nvidia Shield (stockish android too). The pro wil do anything the tab S does just with pen support and a screen that while it is nice is just not as nice as the S.
Dose tab pro has stylus support like note ? ... I don't think so
I also upgraded from a Nexus 7 2012 to a Tab S 8.4 (also got from John Lewis).
I was running Liquid Smooth Unofficial on the Nexus 7 and am now running Liquid Smooth on the Tab S. Took about an hour to root, install rom, and restore apps via TB. The Tab S is a nice step up from the Nexus 7. As others have said the main difference is the screen. I prefer the AMOLED screen and the deep blacks. Other people prefer the "truer" colour representation of the LCD screen. Whichever you choose I'm sure you'd be happy with it. Maybe there's a place with both tabs so you can try side by side?
