[Q] 50 mpx port - Oppo Find 7 and 7a

So, there is this superzoom feature, wich let's you take 50 mpx shots with an 13 mpx shooter. It would be nice to see the feature ported to other devices
with 13mpx camera (just like my G2).
What do you think, is there any chance?
Here are some samples:

If it was that easy, an APK would already be available..
I guess it's not just a pure SW thing but there is a HW requirement for it to work.

Well, i'm not sure... There is a lot of sw thing that createdd by OEMs and pretty useful... Multiwindow, bubble-like chathead (and now there is linkbubble, callbubble, etc...)
But this must be some deeply integrated s**t, because the Find7 has some kind of RAW support. Android doesn't have any raw API (jet)...
So who knows? Maybe the apk and some xposed magic together could suprise us (i'm not a feveloper, just wondering)

Android 4.4 does have raw support, albeit not officially, as documented on many articles regarding the 4.4 code commits. But I do agree, there must be a bit more going on under the surface since it is shipping with Android 4.3 based ColorOS which doesn't have RAW support. The source code for ColorOS is hosted on github, it appears, so it should be as simple as compiling. I am honestly torn between getting the Find7 and the Sony Xperia Z2. I'm using a Moto G until I can decide/they are released stateside.

In case if you are a developer intrested in this, from here you can download the Find7 frimware (wich contains somewhere the RAW support and the 50mpx feature. Good luck, and may the force be with you

Looks like the image processor makes the magic with the 50mpx... so it's a hw thing after all....
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app

It would be nice to see the software improves before porting, such as 50mpx raw then bring it down to a comfortable size like 2-3 mb, also not only 50mpx with the 13mb, but also the lower resolution mb too, so we can get best pics at a smaller size that way too.

I don't know how they do it, the 50MP pic's have much more details rather then up-scaled 13MP pic.
I did some testing from some review sampes

They are not scaled, they are taking multiple pictures and combining them. This can be seen in one of the YouTube videos where the shots are shown to take several seconds to get per shot. I'd link but YouTube is blocked on this router. Should be easy to find as it came up on my first page of results when searching "oppo find seven" and includes an unboxing. It wasn't there the last time I looked so you folks that haven't looked recently you my want to take a peek as it includes a look at several of these pictures and clearly shows the (IMO) amazing detail these shots produce. I had thought this would be a bit of gimmick for the bullet point wars but this is actually an impressive piece of work.

Yes, it's combined from 4 shots. Actually, the decice shoots 10 picture, then chooses the 4 best of them, and then combines the 4 13mpx picture into one bigass poc. The only problem (for porting this) that all of these steps are made by a dedicated image processor, wich is a chip build in. So you have two options:
A - simulate the entire IP
B - Don't port the 50 mpx fearure
Sent from my LG-D802

This tech is by Almalence and has existed for awhile now, more information about it here
This tech is also possible on a Galaxy nexus, no reason why it cant be ported.
However, getting the source code and getting it to work on another device is difficult.
Who would have the time and knowhow to do so? (*super ultrapixel wink wink)

OnePlus One can do the same (50 MPx photo)

I also read somewhere that the 1+ one is equipped with Oppo's ColorOD in chinese version. So propably it will work with CM11s vice versa

Interesting effort. How much does this rely on HTC's software? I'm curious whether you can maybe do anything to address the terrible number of dropped frames on the One X's stock camera app.

UPDATE:
I have managed to record at 24mbs as seen in this screenshot, this is at 19fps
However what I am experiencing at the moment is a large amount of lag between pressing the record button and the it displaying on the screen that it is recording, the bit rate seems to be a bit of hit and miss, it will record at 24mbs a second sometimes and others it will do 16mbs or less. I believe this is to do with the frame rate, so it looks like we will need to sacrifice frames for a higher bit rate.. more testing and trying things out needs to be done, but it looks like it may take a little longer before I public on this.
Can You try recording at 720p 10-12 mbps whit Htc camera ?
Thank you
But I think a constant high fps(~30) is more important than pure quality...

Dual camera from s4 possible on s3?

Hey guys. Just did some reading in the general, themes & apps and development sections and didnt find anything but i must ask since my wife insists....is it possible now or will it be ever possible to do the dual camera thing from the s4 ads or is it a hardware limitation and only the s4 will be able to do it?

From what I have read about the Galaxy S4 and seen it doesn't seem to have any special camera improvements except for a 13 megapixel back camera and 2 megapixel front camera compared to the S3's back 8 megapixel and front 1 megapixel camera. Also Samsung themselves said that any new software update, which this seems to be, will be given to the Galaxy S3. So until Samsung release the new software's source code or whatnot I don't see someone else doing this soon, maybe. (There might be some modders out there who might build their own tweak for this but unlikely)
While you wait for this feature to be released I would suggest using the Multi-lens Camera, which can be found with a quick search in the play market, that can be used to take pictures like shown in the S4 ads and more! (Haven't tested the application myself yet) Hope I helped you out.

I'm no developer, but it's possible that there's a hardware limitation in terms of physically switching both cameras on at the same time. I doubt it, but it's definitely a possibility.
That being said, if there is no such hardware limitation, I believe our dev's will be able to figure it out even before the release of the software. There are already commands that control each camera separately (in order to switch them), so it's just a matter of making an app (or modifying the camera apk) to allow both at the same time. Of course, I'm making it sound easier than it actually is, but I believe that it should be possible.

I think you'll need a Snapdragon 801 for 4K. While the CPU & GPU are only minor speed bumps over the 800 used in Z1 and Z1 compact the chipset dedicated to camera has had a massive improvement in the 801 vs. the 800.

I'm at work so I'll look for the article later and provide a link when I hit a post count of 10 and am allowed that is.
It was either Anandtech or Tom's Hardware that had a detailed article comparing the different MSM variants of Snapdragon 800 and 801. Should be pretty easy to find, it was a recent article and they are well known technology sites.
Pin compatible doesn't tell you a lot. There are plenty of things you can do on a i7 4770k that you couldn't do on an entry level pentium yet those two CPUs are pin compatible.

If you Google 'snapdragon 800 vs 801 MSM variant' the 2nd and 4th results are the Tom's Hardware and Anandtech articles I was thinking of. Basically, the ISP has had the biggest increase, a bit over 40% increase in frequency. The ISP is the processor that the camera uses, think it might stand for image sensor processor.

I'm sure the ISP can always be clocked a little to achieve the desired results IF that's the case. But look at the LG G2 which uses the same SoC as ours (second revision) - 120fps 720p video no problem. I did a quick search and found this guy's channel which convinced me even more. There are more videos from different users if you want to check of course. These are just assumptions, I am not that familiar with this matter and I would be happy if there is someone who can clear things out.
Edit: I read that people are getting different fps (like 45 or 60) on different z2 camera ports for our device so I'm almost sure it's a software problem
It seems like a minor bug fix update. I am not sure that they will give us z2 features soon. Hope I'm wrong.

60 fps videos

Hey guys,
does anyone know if it's possible to record @ 60 fps with this baby ?
Is it related to the kernel ?
Many thanks !
I know the 6P can record at 60fps due to the faster processor. And that's why it's not available with the 5x. Not sure if someone could hack or modify it to do 60fps at a lower resolution though.
Edit: But it can do 4k at 30 fps ([1920x1080] x 30=265,420,800), so you'd think the processor could handle 1080 at 60fps ([4096x2160] x 60=124,416,000).

Technically it's possible I think, even a G3 can do that.
The 808 snapdragon can do that but I don't know in what way the system or app should be modified.
The 6P has an official function within the stock camera app to do it ?
Subscribed, I'm interested.

I have never played with the 6p and was only recalling articles about its video. Seems it does not have the option for 60fps at 1080. But O read it can do 120fps at lower res? The sony camera itself can do 60fps 1080. Maybe it just needs software that will enable it.
Perhaps the default encryption makes it impossible to capture and process and write the files fast enough.
I bought ProShot soon after getting the 5x (yah $50 playstore credit). I emailed the developer and he stated they're planning on adding the ability to make 60fps 1080p. Apparently Android 6 finally added the ability to access the camera function for that? I didn't ask for any further details.

If we can recorder @ 720p/120fps and 4k/30fps, the cpu should be capable of handling 60fps in fullHD... I think is more a software thing than kernel one.
Anyway I'm intrested too, let's see...
I've installed "L Camera", today,only for testing.
But in the video section, the options for 60 fps videos are greyed out...
I know this app is for developing purpose, and it's weird to see these options not selectable.

I don't even know if the S7 is going to have camera2, the S6 was supposed to eventually but with the time Samsung takes to do otas they should get it in 2025. ProShot just released a huge update with 4k timelapse video recording.
And is there any solution?
@ViRb3 Yes please, that would be amazing
I am definitely interested in being able to shoot 60fps @ 1080p. I would gladly send a few bucks to the dev that gets this working.

On screen buttons?

Thought it'd be a great idea to have option between the captivate keys and on screen buttons like one plus one has.
My guess is it does not, someone can confirm...
Reason being is for ease of use when one hand operation as the captivate keys are being placed at the very bottom of the front.

Thats good idea ,will easy to handle by one hand
Even if it is not an option it should be easy to enable since android has it built in. Rom community could add it for sure.

Yeah I'd imagine so. But I'd rather HTC building a proper solution into the ROM to allow different combinations such as
1) Enable both
2) on screen only
3) captivate only

I thought I watched a review where they said you could have either....

I don't recall one review mentioning that, and I've read/watched almost all of them. I could have missed it but I don't think capacitive/onscreen button swapping is an option.

I don't recall seeing that either, wonder if one of you guys could reference the link (s) you have seen that, that'd be great!

I will have to rewatch them, like you I have watched 384723984792384 reviews so they all blend together. I'm sure I will watch them again soon and I will let you know. But I remember that someone specifically said we have the choice. He didn't show it but he mentioned it. He may have been mistaken so we would really only know once the phone is in hand...
I do remember that I watched a video where the reviewer said that you can have both. To my knowledge, this will come on the version of a custom ROM. I don't think that this will have a stock workaround for a solution.
My Evo LTE had on-screen buttons in certain AOSP Roms, but never stock. Not even Xposed Framework could enable on-screen buttons (at the time) for the Evo.

I'm sure adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the build prop will still show the on screen buttons

Your idea's perfect.
I found a case that shows the HTC 10 with onscreen buttons, but it's probably photoshopped (though there's multiple angles).
