US HTC M8 Developer Edition Removed/No Unlocked Model Currently Listed? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was on the HTC M8 purchase page this morning, genuinely excited to see how the Unlocked/Dev editions of the phone were going to be offered.
I saw the Dev edition, and thought it odd that the Unlocked model wasn't present. Not many news sources have been clear on how and when the latter will be offered.
Not more than five minutes later, I refreshed the page to find this text, to my disappointment:
"Sorry, this product is not available in your area."
Have they been delayed once again?

Posted on the other thread someone indicated it wasn't supposed to go up for sale yet and will get added later tonight probably around midnight EDT.

Amazon is taking orders for the 32 GB Dev edition for 649.99 - $50 less than carrier locked. They are currently out of stock, but will accept the order. I just placed mine.

What is the difference between factory unlocked and developer editions? Is it the bootloader?

Can you only buy the M8 developer edition in US?

I'm checking on Htcs website in Germany (where I live) and there's no mention of the developer edition, it justs shows me retail stores where I can buy the regular unlocked gsm edition , can you unlock the regular unlocked gsm edition without voiding the warranty?
I have a similar question, so instead of starting a new thread, I figured I'd try here first.
I also live in Germany and I thought that the phone I bought unlocked was what many forums are referring to as "international unlocked". However, after the Lollipop update I tried to look into the software number and it turned out that I got a T-Mobile phone with CID T-MOB101. As far as the GSM is concerned, the phone is unlocked, I'm using it with O2 for example. But the update to Lollipop has the T-Mobile version 4.19.111.2. I read that 111 here actually refer to T-Mobile.
So my question is : what is meant by international unlocked and can one actually buy one in Germany?

So if I want to unlock my bootloader without losing my warranty im effed up? :crying:
The US Developer Edition comes with the bootloader already unlocked (if that's what you mean)
The EU handset comes locked and you have to unlock it and technically does void your warranty

The question of rooting confuses me as well. I'm not so worried about the warranty since in Europe it is rather inefficient anyway. However, all guides keep stating that "it is not for everyone" and that one has to "root responsibly" in order to stay safe.
At the same time, many things that seem useful (such as complete backups, firewalls, permissions control by e.g. ApOps, etc) are only possible on rooted devices. And these are not some eye candy tweaks, without such tools it seems impossible to control the device. I mean, without rooting I can't even get rid of FM radio, what's up with that!
Yes, people might say, just leave it alone, pretend it's not there. But there are tons of apps on the phone that I do not need/use and I can't even disable them. Perhaps I can't use the memory if I delete them, perhaps they drain the battery only a little bit if I don't use them, but to me it's very annoying that I am not in control of MY phone. It's not sponsored by any carrier, I paid what was asked for it, I reckon it's mine now.

UK guy thinking of getting a HTC 10 while on holidays in Chicage July 2016

Hi, I was intending of getting a Pay as Go sim while in USA for my M9 but now that the 10 is out I thought I might get one whilst out there. Do you think the 10 will be readily available {July 8th - 27} and do I go for a unlocked version and get a Pay as Go sim or a carrier based one and unlock later.
My personal preference would be to purchase the unlocked version. Unfortunately, it would be unlikely that you would be able to find an unlocked version in a retail store, but time will tell if any retail stores will offer it. (It should be available through the HTC web site by then.) You would probably be stuck with getting a carrier branded model. (T-Mobile would be the GSM variant here in the United States.)

Sorry. Just waiting around for my 10 to ship and trying to avoid work right now.
Two BestBuy reps claimed they would be carrying/able to order unlocked HTC 10's. I hope so, because I spent my saved phone cash on my wedding. If they do not carry it, I'll be forced into an unlocked S7.

New Red and Gold HTC 10 Available now! with $100 off or Free $199 JBL Headphones

http://www.androidheadlines.com/201...us.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Camellia Red, Topaz Gold, Carbon Gray exclusive to HTC.com
Camellia Red and Topaz Gold will begin shipping in early October.
What are the odds I could convince HTC to send me a Camellia Red Unlocked phone to replace my Carbon Grey Unlocked phone when I apply for the Uh-Oh protection? I could wait 2 months with a damaged camera lens to get a Red model. I loved my red M8.
Other colors won't start shipping until October. Kind of like the A9, a fiasco, and 2 $100 credits I ended up getting with them due to delays on shipping. I can wait, and hope they can't deliver, and get more credits!
Now if I can get my credit reinstated of $100 that expired for whatever reason. HTC support is so slow!!!
Sucks that it's only for USA, that red one looks really good!

It's not US only @Chad_Petree it should be available in each country where HTC.com sells phones directly to consumers.
For example the discounted price (-15%) is 594,15€ for Finland, Sweden and Denmark at least.
Germany is 568,65€
UK 484.49£
France, Spain, Ireland, and Italy 636,65€
And so on. Don't have the time to check more countries..
Edit: Pfft, nvm, that was an old message to the original offer. Should learn to read.

Thank you ! It is indeed discounted on Germany , but no red color for us , it's not listed on HTCs website , ha !!!? That's not cool HTC Germany is the only country in Europe where you don't get the red version ... At least we got the best price our of Europe ... what about in your country ? Can you buy it there ?

I wish someone would tell verizon that now all phones have to work on all networks lol, because you have to do mods on the Unlocked 10 to get it to work on verizon and if you want volte to work you have to fully convert your unlocked version to a verizon version and verizon still will not accept and activate your unlocked 10 imei on their network, you have to activate your verizon sim in a verizon phone then put that sim in your unlocked 10. FCC should get verizon to stop this crap or start fining them.

In the end of your statement you said that you have to activate a verizon sim in a verizon phone...and then put that sim in the unlocked 10? I actually bought the Verizon HTC 10 not knowing any of this until I called Verizon to activate and the guy told me I could have just bought the unlocked version from HTC.com where I purchased the phone. He was actually really helpful. Most of the time when I talk to the folks at Verizon they're knowledgeable enough to know what they have to do. My question is: why do you need to go through the hassle of activating the SIM in a Verizon phone first? They have to accept the unlocked version. You might have to use a Verizon SIM which only makes sense to be honest. But those are free at the corporate Verizon Wireless stores...not the Wireless Zones and the Radioshack's of the country. I don't even think RS sells Verizon anymore.
I'm just pissed that I bought the Verizon variant. HTC.com should know better and just sell the unlocked version saying it works on all carriers. The Google Pixel coming out doesn't have special variants. Just one phone that works for all! Yes Verizon has an "exclusivity" partnership with them but I don't see the benefits for Verizon. Unless people pre-order through Verizon where there's more of a supply...and probably some ****ty bloatware that you can get rid of in a snap. I just got my HTC 10 on Thursday. I've already rooted it and unlocked it with s-off. I'm trying to find someone with the Android Nougat 7.x firmware but the people that do won't give it out and I definitely understand why. I can still return the HTC 10 within 30 days, and then buy the Google Pixel XL once they've depleted the pre-order stock. I've been loyal to HTC since the Thunderbolt days though. That's a long time.
So to answer your comment -- Verizon reps know they have to activate the unlocked version. But they can still require a Verizon SIM or I could have just taken the one out of my M8 I still have if they were that intense. Do you see any benefit with Google and Verizon being partners on this? It doesn't make any sense when you can order the phone through Google.com anyway.

Unless something has changed ? The unlocked 10 to be used on verizon has to have the verizon radio flashed to it which requires s-off to stick and root access.
Checkout Dottats thread below on how to use unlocked 10 on verizon.

You can still s-off unlock and root your verizon 10 just use the sunshine app its $25 but it frees your phone from verizons choke hold lol. Go to http://theroot.ninja and it lists it all out for you.

None of that is necessary per FCC regulations and law...but I didn't activate an unlocked 10 on the network. I'm pretty sure you just call them up with a Verizon SIM number associated with an IMEI that you want to use it on and that's it

Its been since april. The unlocked 10 needs the verizon radio flashed to it, plus volte wont work unless you use the other thread which you flash the verizon ruu to an unlocked 10 then volte will work. Links below both go over all that. I also wish pixel had the sd card slot, but also stereo speakers instead of the one facing down speaker it does have also has no OIS.

How long is the backorder with asurion for a Verizon pixel xl 128 ?

Does anyone know how long the backorder is with asurion for a replacement Verizon black pixel xl 128 GB model ?
I waited about a week for mine, put the claim in on March 17th and it was available the 24th. Go onto asurions website and chat with a rep. They told me exactly when they were getting a shipment, and it happened. The pixel XL 128 I got was on the Feb patch and I was able to unlock the bootloader, hopefully yours will be able to be unlocked as well. I ran through the setup with no sim, so I'm not sure if that helped or not.
To the OP, what was wrong with your original device?

So yours came with the Feb security update and you were able to unlock your bootloader ? What happened did they send you the Google unlocked version and not the Verizon one ? So you just used the toggle to unlock your bootloader or did you use depixel8 ? Thank you for the heads up.

I messed up the screen on my nexus 6p and assurion had no nexus and offered two other phones then finally offered me the pixel xl. I stupidly updated and then read up on what needed to be done to root it. screwed myself. A broken screen claim for $150 to get a fresh refurb or if lucky possibly a new one.... has been crossing my mind lately. Even if the wait is a couple of weeks. miss my ability to be able to root and tweak it just a bit to my personal liking more than what google thinks we should.

Sorry to hear you couldn't unlock. Honestly I would take one pixel XL or even two 6p's any day, but if you liked the 6p, more power to you. I myself think the motorola Nexus 6 was much better than the 6p as motorola makes way better phones then the cheap maker of the 6p.
Thread reset,
Lets try this again and be more respectful this time please.

Oh so yours is a Verizon version and not Google store. Many of us were hoping that they were sending out Google store versions but yeah probably too good to be true. My original device was depixel8 unlocked. If I can't unlock my replacement when it comes I may just use it until the new HTC ocean comes out then either keep the pixel XL as a back up or trade it off for a used Google store version or just sell it when I get the new HTC ocean. When the HTC ocean comes out I will be glad to have an sd card slot back ?

My CID is Verizon, so I'm not sure why I could unlock with the toggle. My original was depixel8ed as well. I haven't had a SD card capable phone in 5 years, so it doesn't matter to me anymore.

It has zero to do with the cid. Many other threads have dealt with this previously. You probably can unlock it due to the backlog of Pixel phones. Basically you got lucky. At some point this window will close.

Really lol ok. Well when you post and assume something is was what's it's not then you do need it explained to you. The way to avoid that is to not insinuate things that you have no proof about or any reason to.
I guess I need to explain it so you can understand. I asked the one member if his cid is a Verizon one or a Google store one talking about the one he got as an insurance replacement from asurion. No where did anyone say a word about cid having anything to do with how the bootloader can be unlocked so stop trying to say that.
It's been posted on thread after thread that cid has nothing to do with unlocking your bootloader so please stop assuming and insinuating that because it's not or ever was the case on this thread.

7.1.1 Feb patch, I was miraculously able to unlock the bootloader just using the OEM unlocking toggle
I opened a claim for a Pixel 128gb on Nov-28, 8 business days later the Pixel 2 they offered me is still back ordered. They offered me an S7 which I refused, then they offered me an S8 which is much better but I'm afraid I'll hate the Samsung bloat so I asked to continue to wait, and on Friday they told me they have a Pixel XL available but again, I opted to wait for the Pixel 2.
I don't know if I made the right call or not, sometimes I wonder if they offered me too much of an upgrade and now to push me to pick an S7 or S8, they'll just keep telling me it's backordered for weeks. When I call, sometimes I'm told 3-5 business days, sometimes 7-10, once they even told be 10-20 business days...
I'm surprised because I can go to the google store and purchase one right now and it could be at my door tomorrow, but Asurion probably orders those by the dozen (if not more) so that might be tougher to get.
The S8 might not be a bad option after all, specially with Oreo around the corner for it.

T-Mobile Variant Can Be Unlocked With Latest Update?

So I'm still financing my device through T-Mobile, but I always check the device unlock app in the off chance that something changed. Today, I went through the unlock request and it was approved. No trying to contact T-Mobile about it or anything. It just went through. Skeptical, I went to see if the OEM unlock option was available, and I was able to toggle it with no issue. A friend mentioned that he'd heard the latest update was allowing people to unlock their phones without authorization. Anyone else getting this?
Well that is great news...I got TMobile to unlock perm the 2nd day I had mine. Still financed and everything.
I think they are getting more easy to request unlock on certain phones nowadays. My 6t was same but good luck with Samsung phone....
Were do you find this carrier unlock request? I'm curious, to see if it can be done with my sprint phone.

I doubt the Sprint model will have anything like that... This is for a T-Mobile discussion, and it's specific to T-Mobile version with the app that T-Mobile ships with it

Just finished installing the latest OTA update and unfortunately, the setting is still grayed out. Oh well.

Thanks I wasn't sure if it was a T-Mobile thing or not.. O well, my Pixel is sitting unused, as now it is just a back up for me..

How long have you had the device? Have you been using it for more than 45 days? I'm really hoping my unlock was intentional and not just a random mishap, because that'd be great news for T-Mobile users if that was the case

No, I just bought it. Paid in full. After doing some Google searches, I will have to wait 45 or > days before I can unlock. Kind of a bummer, but I can live with it. Got a good $ trade-in from T-Mobile, so that's why I bought the 3a XL from them.

Yeah, when you do that, an update would be appreciated. If you still have a balance on your phone, but it's unlocked, then that means we can confirm that t-mobile variants are getting unlocked before being paid off, which is great for people looking for rootable devices
