Zoe Highlights Question - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are the generated Zoe Highlight videos still rougly ~30 seconds like on the M7? I was hoping they would remove this time limit for the M8 because often times I had well over 200 shots in one event day and so a lot of things weren't included in the highlight film. Also would make sense since they're letting us add our own music now and re-arrange the pics/video clips too. Thanks in advance for your reply!

This is a BIG issue for me.
On the M7, you used to be able to set your own music, and increase the time of the music which would allow you to bypass the 30 second limit. You could have Zoe Highlights for as long as you want (even though the images/clips would loop).
Also there was no LIMITATION on the number of clips you used to have.
M8 zoe has a limit of 16 clips!
Does anyone know how to remove this? How can we increase the number of clips to use.
My zoe doesn't even work properly on Android HD 22, but that's rom related. The limitation is for the new HTC M8 in general.

+1
The First zoe was great.
Then it gone worse an now it is unusable.
Big mistake, htc.
Remove the 16 clip limit.

Big problem for me too. I've posted on the M7 forums about this issue, maybe it will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/themes-apps/request-modified-htc-gallery-zoe-t3017440

Facebook App MarketPlace 3 issues fixable?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone else had 2 issues I've run across since using the Facebook app from Marketplace:
1) Sometime when posting comments, it doesnt send to post, anyone have this problem?
2) Does the Facebook app always have to be re-freshed to see whats been posted instead of it notifying you when something gets posted?
3) I know everyone has the photo album not displaying issue I do too, but when I go to HTC Album, I have a freaking list of folders with either pix or no pix, how to I make them not appear in the HTC album when I am picking albums to view?
Thanx
I had the same issues as 1 and 2 and gave up on the app. I use the mobile website for everything except uploading pics, in which case I use the application.
Kind of a pain until someone smarter than me comes up with a good app.
Sux, dont want to use the website, I know they have it working on the blackberry where its real time updates, you'd think they would have done that with this lite app, whats the point of refreshing manually.
the app is pretty worthless, i rarely use it. the manual refresh is horrible. It'll only download the latest (say 25) posts, and if there are 35 new posts on your wall/feed and you refresh, it will only update 25, and when you scroll through them, it would go from the last of the latest 25 to the latest of when you previously refreshed so there would be a gap in your feed...
i use touch.facebook.com and lite.facebook.como via opera mobile and works out very well.
i no longer attempt to use it to post comments because what i found out is its posting on random old posts. it can cause you to say some things you really dont mean.
my other real issue is it will only load the first photo in an album and just sit there rather than opening the next. and of course you cant see who likes a post. hopefully microsoft will fix these little issues so it will be as complete as it is on an iphone or android.
TJoC,
Thanks for the laugh, Microsoft does as little as possible, and in their eyes it works, Being a expert in windows, dont expect MS to be adding anything to this app, MS rather have you jump to a 3rd party. The one that SHOULD make the app is Facebook themselves. But who are we? Just barnicles on the end of a stick.
I went so far to try the Xperia X1 panel facebook, as much as I like its functionality it also lacks simple basic features, like the ability to comment, like/dislike. You would think someone would be smart enough.
Your right, facebook does need to create the app.. They created the app for the iphone and android, what blackberry? did facebook create that or was that RIM?
also since WP7 is due to be released soon, i think MS dropped the development for this as social networking is a big focus for WP7
MS drops everything trying to make the big buck, if they set a dept up to take care of the little things like this, they'd be amazed how all the little cents would add up. They crippled WinMo 7, from everything I have heard and read, I'll stick to the flexibility of 6.5, not that its great, but sure beats the choking factor. If they are so big on social networking, they sure dropped the ball on that front.

Re-Request from a Junior Member

Greetings to Developers & Moderators.
I am using Raphael 300( Windows 6.5.x ) and I prefer using the windows Home Screen rather than using Manila.
I humbly ask you all is it possible to make the clock ( small round analogue ) alive and work equally along with the digital one on the home screen.. I have attached a picture along with this post to make the concept clear..
Thanks and Regards to every Moderators and Developers
Hi bonnyinqingdao
The little analog clock is only an image, search for "Titanium skins" to find something close, not what you want exactly. Good luck!
Feasibly, I could make a program that every minute it updates and creates a new clock image based on the Time, however I am not sure how the homescreen works exactly (in terms of refreshing). Refreshing the homescreen every minute would be both a pain and inconvenient.
If someone knows how to update the image every minute without inconvenience, I would be happy to make the image-maker
Cyclonezephyrxz7
60 images X 12 = 720 it's a lot of work !!! Refreshing Titanium takes 3 to 6 seconds, every minutes it 'll happen, the whole device will be devoted to doing only this thing

I wouldn't save the images to the phone. Not all of them atleast.
The program would have a base-image to work with, and it will load it, then draw a Line on it with Graphics.DrawLine() for the minutes and one for the Hour. I already know the formula for degrees between hands for every minute (it was an Extra Credit Final Project in my Geometry class two years ago )
However, if Titanium doesn't update that often, then it isn't all too worth it...It would cost more resources than it is worth That, or someone can just make a new CCLock Panel (I don't know C++ well enough, so I can't do that)...
Right, I didn't think about changing the arms only
There's already an analog clock plugin somewhere....

[App] Simple Audio Analyzer (WIP)

This is something I started dabbling on while trying out various SDK things, but continued developing on after first tests. Still work in progress, but it works good enough.
It's a simple application that captures from the phone's microphone and presents the recorded data either as FFT graph, waveform or displays it as SPL/peak/RMS volume meter with graphical history function.
I've put already an earlier show-off on Youtube, but I was on a coding roll, this is a newer (unlisted) demo. Irregularities in the displays are caused by a confirmed bug in XNA.

(Uploaded it a few minutes before this post, video quality will improve.)
Looks cool! Will it work in landscape also?
Hey Tom. You made some good points on Anton D. Nagy's blog, but I reckon it could be optimised. Right now it's very pretty, to attract buyers (e.g. me!) you'll need to provide something really useful. This could include things like highlighting clipped samples, recording to isolated storage or even integration with the Zune hub.
How many frequency bands are you managing with the FFT? For the purpose of a phone you could keep it to 128 or even 64 and save processing power. You're right about needing a dev device to really know.
Good luck, I really like what you've done so far.
I could swear I had already written up something and it seems gone.
Anyway, the app's going to be free, so no need to entice buyers, since there won't be any.
Also, the main intent of the application is to capture ambient sounds/noises and get a visual representation. And since I want to keep it as simple as possible, I'm probably going to leave it at that.
Your comments however gave me the idea to write a simple recorder, that does an audio display with zoom and cursor on both waveform and FFT representations. I don't think applications will be able to directly open something outside their isolated storage, so loading music from your phone will probably not be possible, apart from making a media player proxy play back stuff.
Looks great..very impressive.
I'm tinkering with the same API although I'm a real novice and wondered how you were managing to get at the data being picked up by the microphone in apparent real-time.
I wonder if you would be good enough to let me into some of your coding techniques or point me at some good reference docs/samples I've obviously missed
The code samples I've seen up to now have start record and stop record buttons, with a buffer being filled up over that time period and finally played at the end.
I'd like to do how you managed to process and graph the data as it is picked up by the mic. Are you possibly setting the buffer size very small and just getting small chunks of data and then acting on it - accepting the potential delay in buffering and then processing - maybe the delay is smaller than I'm expecting? or is there some other technique I'm missing from the docs.
Thanks in advance.
Ian
The recording code works practically the same as you'll find in the samples. Signal processing happens on the BufferReady event, which calls respective processing functions. I've set the buffer size to 100ms, which is the minimum XNA allows.

Very nice!! I love how it just fits in perfectly with the Metro UI
Hi Tom,
How are you analyzing the audio stream coming off the microphone? I'm trying to do something similar to match sounds with known pitches/frequencies (similar to using the MediaPlayer.GetVisualizationData method) but not sure if I'm missing a simple way of doing it, or if you are analyzing the raw bytes from the stream.
Thanks,
Dave.
I'm capturing raw data directly from the XNA Microphone class and then running it through a FFT routine. I'm using Exocortex DSP, which I've stripped down to the bare minimum.
Hi Servo!
I was wondering how you were able to code the audio to be represented visually in silverlight. I'm looking to do a similar kind of app showing a VU-meter that responds to the audio. It'd be 16 distinct blocks vertically that, based on the incoming audio, light up according to audio strength. I can find samples of accepting microphone input, but how do you turn that visual?
Thanks!
Hi tom, very nice work and excactly what I can use.
Have to do some simple sound measurements every now and again.
Nothing exact but enough to give me an idea what I'm dealing with. This app would be perfect for it. Can't wait to try it.
Hi tom, I bought your 2,0 version of this and I really like where it is going. I need something like this for tinkering with audio setups.
On your graph, could you post some graph lines with maybe some labels (.5 1k 2k...) so I can see where certain peaks lie? it could be toggle-able in the settings?
Also, any plans for some auto or manual calibration?
Its a shame the API only lets you work up to 8k, I wonder why?
Keep up the great work!
i bought this too, and really like it!
But, how accurate is the dB meter??...

[Q] Runnymede AIO - messed up photos taken in dark conditions

I have an issue with photos taken in dark conditions, they are all messed up, or broken if you will, looking like corrupted JPG. In slightly better light conditions everything is fine. Reboot did not help. It happens now with default camera in sebaastian15's AIO 2.5 but I have also noticed it in AIO 2.2. Is there a way to upgrade/replace stock (sense 3.5) camera? Did anyone experienced such an issue?
I could insert image of screwed up photo but "noobs" like me have no access rights, so to look at it, make up and URL from this "img43.imageshack.us/img43/3977/imag0616d.jpg" or that one "img838.imageshack.us/img838/5885/imag0610g.jpg".
Also do not ask me to ask this question on the ROM thread... again, I am just a dumb "noob" so I cannot comment on super-duper-exclusive dev threads.

Unable to see these images.
same here
the same happened with me too
but on older versions of runnymede and runnymedemod007
mine even used to restart the whole phone
i suggest using market apps like camera 360 or others if you prefer
I was trying to avoid non-sense (hehe) cameras, but I will give it a try to be able to take night picture despite low quality... what I have noticed (but have to prove tonight) is that after I changed preferred ISO to 800 the picture taken is ok, and even when I set it back to "auto" - this sounds like ISO property is not really set and may mess up when pixel brightness computation in low light conditions (just a theorem).
ckpv5, I copied&pasted address to URL bar of web browser and it works for me, maybe you do not have access to imageshack server. When I reach "10 mails level" I will just embed it here.

Yeah.. I guess it is no access as this is what I got http://imageshack.us/img/blocked_login.jpg
Anyway... your workaround on the problem is good.
Night test done... default camera screws up pictures unless you manually set ISO. Re-checking "auto" does not help, but setting 400 or 800 helped me to make couple souvenir pictures.

How to Boost Faster Loading Images like WhatsApp?

Zingoo is a new promising app that will rock your weekends, outings and any happening that you want to easily enjoy watching its moments over & over again (we are now doing the Android version, then the iOS one). Because we want Zingoo to be born strong, it has to deliver the best possible [UX] to all awesome-moments lovers around the world, which means we have to do our best in loading the images.
Because we (at Begether) do listen to our users, we heard a lot of comments on how WhatsApp is loading images super-fast, so we dug deeper to know what we can do about it, & here is what we find,
What does WhatsApp do?
WhatsApp is doing the following (numbers are approximate):
Photos sizes range around 100KB, which loads the images pretty fast on most common mobile-network speeds.
Photos are cached, so no need to load them every time you open the app almost no need to mention this!
They first show a very small thumbnail (about 10KB or less) until the real image is loaded, & this is the real pro-tip for their better UX.
How is it done?
To achieve the caching there are some good Android libraries out there that are doing a good job, but one of them is doing a way better than the others, which is Picasso. Both caching on disk & on memory are built under the hood, with a very developer-friendly API, I just love what Jake Wharton & his mates did for all of us, thanks guys.
