Tylt MicroUSB Chargers - Nexus 5 Accessories

Has anyone else ever used or encountered Tylt Chargers? I am looking for something in my car that rolls flat so I can store it in my glove box without causing anarchy haha. Anyone have any experience with Tylt chargers? Anyone specifically used them with their Nexus 4 or 5?

That thing is overpriced. $40 for a car charger? c'mon.
I bought these from amazon for $15 which has 2 chargers (each has 2 ports) with 2.1A output.
I use Google Maps and music with this plugged in and the battery doesn't drop.

I don't even see how they can justify a $40 price tag. It's a Micro-USB car charger with a flat ribbon cable. I don't care if it's "flexible" or not, it's not like it can hold your phone up all by itself just by the USB port.

i only use anker brand products for charging. anker has a 24w car charger that comes with an additional usb port. i can charge 2 phones in my car easily compared to others that just keep it from dropping. and its only 12 dollars on amazon

USB Cable / Car Charger / Wall Charger combo

Hey guys,
Looking for a combo micro-usb wire that also comes with a dual car/wall charger. I dont care if its two pieces or three pieces, but I just care that I can keep the Captivate plugged in and not have any issues using it. The last one I bought was a Duracell three way usb combo that had a retractable wall charger on the travel charger piece, but it wasnt giving enough power to the phone, so i couldnt use it while plugged in.
I have been looking at the "Premium USB power kit" by A Days Tech on Amazon, but im worried its going to be a generic POS and not give enough juice.
Anybody know which of these works?
I guess I can also buy a high quality micro-usb wire and then a high quality USB car charger/wall plug seperately as another option. So any opinions on those are also appreciated.

There are a bunch of threads on charging these phones. Unless the charger or the cable has the data lines shorted, the phone will only charge at USB rate (~500mA). Even if you have a 1A car charger, the best you will get is USB speed UNLESS you connect the data lines on the cable. I have not seen a car charger that does this.
The most current the phone will draw is around ~750 mA. It will do this when it thinks it is attached to AC.
Hi,
I bought the Scosche HC12V Dual Home Charger, but I haven't received it yet, but from what little I know of the brand they supposedly make good accessories. I should receive it in a few weeks (shipping a captivate and accessories overseas).
Both outputs are rated at 1amp, the only thing is that it does not come with it's own cable.

I bought a car charger and separate car-to-wall converter from Monoprice. Total for both items about $5. Maybe it only charges at 500 mA but seems fine to me.

Does anyone know - is a 1 amp (1000ma) car charger the recommendation on the mt4g? Where's the best/cheapest place to buy one? It seems like most of the time, amps are specified in product details.
Also, I assume if you charge off of your laptop usb port, that it'll be charging at 1 amp as well?

Belkin makes a micro usb charger that's 5v 1a. I think I paid 20 bucks for mine. It works well and is TINY. You can use it to charge anything that uses a usb cable.
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=489423
IGo Makes a great line of chargers. I have their car and home chargers. They work great and if you get a different phone all you have to do is get a new tip. This way you don't have to contantly buy new chargers.
How about $1? Yes, $1.16...
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10826&cs_id=1082602&p_id=6766&seq=1&format=2
I have like 5 of these, they work great. Just plug any USB cable in to it and you're set.
if your looking for cheap just hit ebay... you can get the generic's for like a buck with free shipping
i wont touch car chargers with a 10 foot stick... the electirical whine from the alternator distroys Li-Ion batteries...
i use usb to computer or to one of those "emergency battery chargers" just another Li-Ion batt, if you plug the emergency charger into the car, and the phone into the emergency charger the battery in the emergency charger will take the hit....
similar to a couple hundered dollar UPS i have on my server racks

This is a new one for me. Can you back that statement up with proof? (not being rude - just curious)
FYI: A good all-purpose micro usb charger is the Motorola P513 ~$10.00 with S&H on Amazon
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
i can poke around on the interwebs... but mostly thats from years of experience with phones, years selling phones, and chargers (RadioShack).
you can prevent all damage by charging the phone while the car (alternator) off, or by using a power inverter, or with the extra LIon batt solution i mentioned above...
NEVER plug the phone (directly) into the car, and then crank the motor, the (electrical) whine is at its worst as the alternator comes up to speed...
at the same time, this is what i tell all my customers:
"cell phones are convenience items, if its not convenient to do, then dont do it"
most people will find the tradeoff of having the phone charged "now" vs diminished batt capacity an easy choice to make... but not all people are like "us"
it surprises me that HTC endorses the use of car chargers with car docks...
but those 1$ chargers on ebay are the worst, most are non-regulated, and could dump 12V into the phone at the smallest problem. 12V will absolutely torch your phone...
you will do what you like... just food for thought

Best car/wall charger all in one, high amp

So I want a fast charging car charger that is also a wall charger. I have read some threads on here stating the following:

So how do get a cable that has the data lines shorted or what charger should I buy? Can I short the lines myself, I have a nice welding setup? I can get a $5 charger at walmart that does 500mah and has a cable (not to mention convenience).
If I can get faster charging somehow I wouldn't mind paying a little extra. This 1 amp per port, 2 port charger might be worth the trouble: http://www.gazaro.com/platinum-series-dual-port-wall-and-vehicle-charger-31106001bb
Finally I found a 2 amp incase single port charger at Best Buy for $40 but if our phone wont use the 2amps I don't want to waste the money as this one would not include the cable. http://www.jr.com/incase/pe/ICE_EC20035/
edit: found just the car charger 2 amp for $22 shipped: http://www.amazon.com/Incase-2-amp-Charger-iPad-iPhone/dp/B003IWJNJG
or ebay $7 shipped small 2amp: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iPad-Mini...Accessories&hash=item45fa88cb21#ht_2044wt_952
What's everyone's opinions on the matter?
It looks like I just need to short the middle two pins D+ and D- but what is the best way to do this? On the cable itself or the car charger?
Also will I benefit from the 2 amp charger over the 1 amp?
edit: did some more reading motorola car chargers seem to be wired properly out of the box: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eless&tag=5336653508-20&qid=1280759739&sr=8-5

I might buy it just because it is so cheap. I'm in the market for a car charger and was going to buy the seidio one that claims 1000mA, but since this is so cheap and boats 950mA, I think I'll go ahead and grab it.
What does everyone else think?
I was lucky enough to snag the actual Verizon one for $15. They were running 25% off and my employer bonus kicked in for another 15%.
I got a free charger from Verizon when I bought my droid and it works fine with this phone.
So far the Motorola fast charger from Amazon has worked flawlessly!

where can i buy original/high quality USB cables?

so I baught a few USB cables from eBay and dealextreme and they charge the phone super slow.
battery widget shows they charge at about 50, compared to my retail that charges super fast at 1000
where do i get GOOD cables?
A few years ago I bought a couple of blackberry OEM cables on Amazon, and ever since, those have been my favorite ones because they are really nice high quality cables. Recently, I was looking to buy some more, and I bought a pack of 5 for $10 from the ebay listing below. I can vouch that they are the same genuine blackberry cables I've received in the past.

I don't think its the USB that slows down the charging. It's the charger? I bought plenty of cheap USB and all charge at same speeds using the stock wall charger..

Yes, I would look for genuine OEM cables from a name brand. However, with ebay or other sites that have 3rd party sellers, they will often say OEM when in fact they are knock offs. It is more common with chargers than cables. I felt comfortable with that ebay listing because it looked like an actual picture of the product and not a stock image. Also, I already owned a couple, so I knew what they looked like with the blackberry logo on the end.
USB cables plays a big part. out of my 10 USB cables that i own only 2 can manage to transfer 1A.

I just posted a thread about this yesterday.

It's also got a $10 off $30 deal as well. Make sure to choose the Premium Micro USB cable, as the normal one is not guaranteed to charge quickly.

Yeah I purchased initially because I wanted a flat cable. These really are tangle free and they are tough as nails. I bunch them up, roll them up, tug/pull etc and have yet to have one fall apart or crap out functionally.
Biggest problem I have with it is my coworkers stealing it from my desk!

sorry, I do not know how to test that...?
I am using it with these chargers:
Anker® 18W/3.6A Dual-Port USB Wall Charger / Portable Travel Charge... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B8L36A6/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_SVf1sb1DQ2N3K

It definitely charges substantially faster than the OEM wall charger for my Nexus 5. That may be the charger or cable or both.
Would be happy to test the mA charge rate but I assume I would need an ammeter which I do not have.

If you could test that would be great! I just ordered a bunch of high quality full speed micro USB cables from monoprice that I linked above, but I wouldn't mind having some more that were a little more fun and colorful. It's always nice to change things up every now and again.
You don't need a multimeter or anything.
Just get CurrentWidget off of the play store (it's free) and add a widget to your homescreen. Set the update interval to 1 second, and watch for the highest number to repeat multiple times (it will always fluctuate up and down, but the highest number will keep popping up) that's your max. It may take a few minutes to get to the top speed, but you'll know when the same number range keeps showing.
It's probably not 100% accurate, but it gives a good ballpark number. The stock LG charger/cable charges at ~1050mA. If the flat cables allow full speed charging, you should be able to match that.

Installed CurrentWidget and ran the tests - very sad to see these fosmon cables that I love so much are limiting my rate of charge.
I tested the Anker wall charger with both the 3ft and 6ft fosmon cables at work and got a max value of 480mA. At home I got a max value of 518mA
I tested the Anker car charger with both cables and was floating around 350mA
When I got home I compared (using the same outlet) the Anker wall charger versus a Blackberry Charger I have (which is the fastest charger I own) and found a distinct difference. As stated before the Anker wall charger with both lengths of fosmon cable maxed at 518mA. The blackberry charger maxed at 1589mA.
FWIW, here is the blackberry charger I used (no, the cable is not detachable from the wall adapter)

Sorry to hear about the cables, I was going to grab a few if your results were different. And sorry about making you sad bud... I guess you can see that it's not just a high amp adapter/charger that is important, but the USB cable has to support high charge rate as well.
Your Anker wall/car chargers are very good though, if you used different cables (or even the stock Nexus 5 cable), the charge rate would be faster.
I've heard of the Blackberry charger being very good, but to get it in Canada (amazon.com won't ship it here) I have to use amazon.ca and they charge $20+ for it... Which is so stupid considering Blackberry is a Canadian company located in Ontario... You'd think it'd be a bit cheaper in the motherland.
But it's not really necessary for me anyway, I'm making an attempt to have all of my chargers as Qi chargers. I have plenty of 2A adapters, I just wanted really good USB cables to make sure my Qi chargers are getting fully juiced so they can provide the full 1A output.

No worries - if anything I thank you for showing me how to test it. I had read a review on these fosmon cables saying they were fast current but never went so far as to test (because I thought I needed an ammeter to do it).
These cables still have their use, but I will be snagging a few of those ones linked on monoprice for my bedside, work and car chargers.
I am going to look more at fosmon too (maybe reach out with an email) and see if they offer or plan to offer a flat micro USB with more amperage.
Side note: which Qi charger are you using? Specifically using well with those cables from monoprice.

Do you trust 3rd party chargers?

This is my first foray into Android and I love the Pixel 2. It's great and I want to make sure I treat it well. Do you trust 3rd party wall chargers or do you think there is a risk they are bootleg and could damage the phone? I got one off Amazon and it seems to be ok so far, but who knows - (as a new user I can't post a link to the Amazon listing apparently). It's called "Google Quick Fast Charger Gray- Adapter with TYPE C to C Wire for Pixel/XL/C" and came in a discreet package not from Google.
Thanks
Do you know what brand it is? While Amazon is a more reputable dealer than searching on e-Bay...they too are not immune to junk...chargers that don't offer protection...or could result in electrocution. Did you look at the buyer rating to see that they were verified purchases and not fake reviews? What is the wattage and what version of Quickcharge does it support...ideally you want Qualcomm Quickcharge 3.0 to maximize charge speed on this phone. I try to at least stick with more reputable brands...I bought an Anker charger from Amazon that supports both QuickCharge 3.0 and has spots for my wife's iPhone. No issues and quick charging.

IIRC,Google Pixels support USB Power Delivery standard, not Qualcomm Quick Charge. The charger that comes with the phone is a PD charger and you can tell this by the fact that it uses a type c connection at the charger and at the phone. It's supposed to be a safer, more universal standard for fast charging USB c devices.
PuffDaddy_d is correct...disregard my QC3 recommendation...although I do get pretty fast charging with it using a quality Type-A to Type-C cable (presumably because it is 18W). For optimum charging, recommendation for Pixel and Pixel 2 (including standard and XL) is USB-C PD standard. Disregard my charger recommendation although I would till recommend sticking to reviewing your brand...if the one you bought is the one by Google...then you're fine.
I don't think you can get fast charging on a Pixel phone with any USB A charger. I saw just Charging or Charging Slowly at the bottom of the screen on mine with USB A. I was super frustrated shopping on Amazon for chargers because there's just so many fake ones and I couldn't find a Benson list for good chargers. He had some charger criticisms on his Google+ page, but didn't make an Amazon list and searching on G+ makes my head hurt. I went with Monoprice specifically because they're certified; item 24424 for my car charger ($10) and I'm very happy with it. On the office charger, I haven't needed one, battery life has been good enough to not worry, but Monoprice has those at $17, item 24426 or 21674. None of the Monoprice chargers are bundled with a cable, so expect to add $5+ for one. My old Motorola Turbo QC2 wall charger and the iOrange QC3 car charger do no good for the Pixel 2 so I gave them to my dad. I know it probably looks like I'm shilling for Monoprice, but there's so much trash out there. Amazon really sucks at this. Walmart and Staples just plain don't have a real USB C cable in their stores, though Walmart does have a real Samsung USB A-C cable for the same price you'd pay for a two pack from Anker or Cable Matters on Amazon, and I think that's pretty OK for retail. The Nintendo stuff seems OK if you're in a pinch. Gamestop has a Hori car charger (15W, not Power Delivery, cable attached) for $20 and the Nintendo branded wall charger for $30 (39W, has Power Delivery, cable attached). There aren't always cell phone stores around when you're jammed up.

I'm currently using a Monoprice Charger also and a Cable Matters USB-C Charging Cable.
Better get one from this list:
