First of all, I apologize if I put this thread in the wrong place. All of the other Rugby Smart threads I've seen are in the Galaxy W section, so that is where I put this.
Anyway, my Rugby is having a charging issue. I have Kemonine's CM9 Beta 7 installed by the way, but this is only a recent problem. When I plug in my phone when it is turned on, it DOES charge, but my phone says "Not Charging". However, when my phone is OFF and I plug it in, it shows the green battery charging animation for maybe 15 seconds or so, then it shows me an icon with an empty battery and a yellow sign next to it which looks like it doesn't think I have a battery even installed in the phone, but I do.
What should I do to fix this, if there IS a fix?

Nice phone first of all, but going back to your query, and with the limited information presented here, all I can do is let out educated guesses and assumptions, they are classified as:
1- Battery might be dead, do check it (if it's bloated or depleting fast), and try to buy a new one if it is damaged.
2- The issue might be a ROM bug, which I assume isn't reproduced by anyone but you, unless anyone else reported it, then you are safe and rather the ROM needs some polishing. I believe formatting your phone or wiping partitions haven't helped you, as I would've gave them a shot in such a desperate case.
Okay, here's the final suggestion, and this one particularly happened to me on my GT-I9100. My phone had a charging issue, in which the battery indicator displays that the phone is clearly charging, although it is unplugged, and when I did plug it, it never showed it's charging. Also, when the phone was powered off and completely unplugged to the charger, the charging animation was displayed and that could eat up my battery. Now, here's the deal, when I mentioned the probable ROM issue, I wanted to know if it happened on stock firmware as well, since when it comes to me, it happened on stock. So, if you were convinced with the information above and partially matches your issue, the problem to such a phenomenon is the USB port (the port which allows you to connect to a PC and plug your phone to a charger), this piece of hardware is definitely corrupted ( at least in my case previously) and needs replacement. It gets ruined due to exposure to water or high voltages. It costs 20$ (the piece is 10$ and nobody works for free), so, better find someone who could replace it for you. Good luck in solving that issue fellow user, and I have no idea about the valid path for your thread.

I don't think the battery is the problem, because I can still charge it and use it, it's just the software that seems to be the issue. When I plug the phone into a source of power, like an outlet through a wall charger, the Battery menu in the Settings goes from saying nothing to literally saying "Not Charging", although when I lock the phone and turn the screen back on the lockscreen says it is charging.. So it does recognize that it is plugged in (so it can't be an issue with the micro-usb port on it), but for some reason it gives me that message. This isn't a major issue, just a slight annoyance. Maybe if it gets to be really bad, I'll either re-flash a ROM or boot the phone into Download Mode and just completely wipe everything and start over with ODIN tool if re-flashing doesn't solve the problem (I've had this ROM many times before wiping it and moing on to another ROM, and this issue never arose until recently so maybe a complete wipe of everything will fix it somehow). But thanks for your assistance

Note that it does take a while for the green battery symbol to change to the no battery symbol, it doesn't happen until near the end of the video so if you want just skip ahead to maybe 2/3 of the way done and you'll have to wait less to see it.

As I previously said, if you're experiencing the same and exact symptoms on stock firmware, then your problem is classified under "hardware". Yet, if this issue is only reproduced on this particular custom ROM you're using up there, then your phone is alright and unharmed, rather the ROM has an unnoticed bug which seems to have been never fixed by the respective developer of this device. It's more of an annoyance if you ask me, nothing critical though, and my issue was never near yours, not even close. Better live with that annoyance, or all what's left is finding a different ROM (you're using CM 9? I doubt that any dev would update that..). Good luck pal, do a nandroid backup just in case too

So not 100% sure as to why this happed, but I did bring it to the sprint store they told me there was some corrosion found in the charging port. Which in means there unwilling to even look at my ET4G luck has it I did get the ins. coverage...But I'm not ready to just roll over and give up that easily. What i find strange is that I have absolutely no problems connecting!? I can flash with Odin/mount usb/SD card and usb tethering.???? When I plug my phone in it will start charging then in less then a min it stops...if I check the battery info page it will change from discharging to charging for just a short time when connected to power (usb or charger) then goes to not charging...After downloading and testing (one at a time) a few battery apps found in the market I noticed that my battery temp is reading at 6C and when I'm really using it and its pretty hot to touch the highest reading I've gotten is 13C now I don't know what translates into as far as F but I know that its way to low to be correct...So I figured I'd get the possibility for it being a software issue outta the way by flashing back to stock and trying a few combos of Roms and kernels making sure to wipe and keep the Roms absolutely as they came unless I needed to add gapps...I quickly got an error upon plugging in stating "charging stopped battery temp to low." and every touchwiz based ROM I use gives me the same error...So I've come to the conclusion that I somehow got my phone damp/wet and fried the temp sensor...So unless I can replace that for cheaper then 100$ fixing the hardware is useless but
I was mostly interested in what apk/receiver is responsible for telling my OS to not accept the charge b/c its to cold and if I can just disable it in autostart manager or if theres another work around to force my battery to take the charge (I know there is a probably gonna be a risk of over charging/over heating etc etc etc but either way I'm gonna end up dishing out the 100.00 due to the pure inconvenience)
**I should also note I have tried 2 OEM chargers 1 after market car charger 2 OEM batteries and 6 different (two different brands) of after market batteries all of them work for other ET4g's and all of the batteries will take a good clean 100% charge from a wall charger or in my wifes ET4G....
Of course if theres no fix which I'd find hard to believe said phone might just end up at the bottom of a a lake...if sprint will still honor there replacement police in that case????

My wife, being 36 weeks pregnant is kinda forgetful suddenly.
She lost her phone for about a week we searched everywhere, cleaned the house many times, cleaned out the car, search for a week.
the amazing thing is she lost it walking from the bed room to the car, she was in the car when she realized it was missing maybe 2-3 minutes after leaving... long story short...
I went walking and found it on the side of the road... a week later with the case and battery cover off laying face down on the grass. I got it home took it apart, dried it out, and amazingly it still works the only thing wrong with it is the Battery saying its at 6°F and wont charge, Its stock ive tried factory reset didn't work. I have the same phone i can charge the battery in my phone but cant charge either battery's in her phone.
Would there be a way to fake the sensor?
Force it to say a higher number?

i used alcohol sani wipes from a hosptial and a pick cleanded ever pices that was white/green left it to dry for the night its like new

That's what I had to do... clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and something that can get into the port and remove any debris - a cotton swab, towel, anything... then try again until it works.

So it's possible to have one and not the other if contact is not being made.
I had to go as far add cleaning all the way up the main board and all every contact point from port to battery
If the phone works just fine go on eBay and grab an external charger and spare battery. I got one for $8 with generic battery. Works great.

Here's the thing. This not working is a sign of other issues. If you see corrosion like this and you don't address it it will lead to bad things. Better to remove any corrosion while it's minor IMHO.

Just realized the OP here was from May, Wonder what happened. I was reading the second post about the phone on the side of the road thinking it was from the same person. In that case they are lucky it still works and any damage is likely done

I fixed it cleaning it with them wipes worked amazing I would recommend them for anyone that is constantly cleaning grim out of used phones

Like the title says...
I pull my phone off the charger at 8AM. By 9AM it still shows 100% and still has the charging icon.
Finally at 10AM it drops to ~67%
It started a few days ago... Previously the charging icon would flash on and off every few minutes...

Give you're battery the spin test... as for the charging icon staying on... could be a dirty port or a connector touching/bent inside the port itself.. strange that it stops.. I'm not sure..
As for the bad reading and then a huge drop... have you recently changed batteries or flashed a rom... I'm kinda at a loss... I once had my battery read off by about 20 percent and I had to wipe my battery stats in recovery to get it to read right , but that was after I replaced my old battery with a bigger one..

I picked this one up at a Sprint store around that time.
Is there a way to wipe battery stats without a custom recovery flashed? I'm running stock 4.1.2
It's a work phone so I'm not really supposed to be flashing custom stuff to it.

You most likely need a new battery.
Wiping battery stats... Let's just say that if snopes.com were to cover Android, this would have to be one of their first articles. There is a ton of myths about the unicorn-like magic that can result from wiping battery stats. The truth is, the contents of the batterystats bin file basically tell a part of Sec Settings some information in order to make estimates for displaying numbers in your battery stats (literally, in Settings) - details like screen on for two hours, used 40% of battery... wiping battery stats erases those few lines of information, nothing more. It doesn't somehow alter anything inside a battery, or anything else.</soapbox>
If you want to clear battery stats as it were, no harm in giving it a shot, right? It is very easy to do. Every time you charge and then unplug near a full charge you have reset battery stats. That's why it will all say "0" if you look real quick at the battery stats in your settings - poof, battery stats were reset.
You should get a new battery though. Get work to buy it. Cheers.

Edit: Wondering how you'd kill batteries so fast. Do you use your phone a lot while it's plugged in by any chance? Like, watch hours of netflix while plugged in? Just trying to think of how you might be cooking things in there perhaps, so... next battery will last longer than six weeks.

If all I do is stick the battery in, it acts like it's charging... The "phone is off" battery charging screen comes on for a few seconds.. Then it shuts off and comes back on. Repeatedly.

That part is correct. Bad charging port can certainly do that, but the erratic charge status reported as in your previous posts wouldn't be because of a bad charging port, so I do not think your problem is that part of the hardware... It sounds like "classic" bad battery. I would certainly try to argue/plea/demand a replacement battery from Sprint given the short life it had. I don't know off hand their warranty on that sort of purchase, but I'd bring my I-mean-business to the store for sure. I do know they have some discretion at the store level. I'd go in anyway - show them what it's doing, bring the receipt from the battery you just bought, and hopefully get a fix. If there's some other miscellaneous hardware problem creating these problems, it's no longer within my knowledge sphere, lol. Good luck. :good:

(The charging while disconnected and unable to power on without being connected to a power source)
I've read cleaning the charging port with alcohol might help...
If that doesn't work I'm just going to send it back for a refurb.

I would like some insight on a problem that I am having with a Lenovo Vibe Shot Z90.
I just bought the phone two months ago during a trip I took to Singapore. It worked fine for about a month before the problem started. The phone never fell down, into water, overheated or anything like that. The problem started suddenly, without an apparent reason. Alas, the local Lenovo branch refused to honor the warranty, claiming that they only take in "EU models".
The problem is that the phone will not charge while it is turned on. It does not even "see" the USB cable getting plugged in. If I turn it off however, it charges just fine, all the way up to 100%. I also noticed that the battery drains faster, for no apparent reason, without any apps running. It most definitely is not a software problem, I did a hard reset at first, it did not work and then, just to be sure, I even flashed the latest official ROM using QFIL.
Do you reckon there is any possibility that the problem is caused by the battery, or is it definitely mainboard-related? If there is any chance that replacing the battery will solve the problem, I could order one online and I am competent enough to replace it myself, but I do not want to get into an ordeal if there is not even a remote chance that it would fix the problem.
Any suggestions welcome.

Yes. A bad charger was the first thing that I considered, so I tried another 2 A charger and then even tried it with a 50 A desktop PSU. It made no difference. There is no current flowing from the charger (PSU) to the phone at all once it is on. When I turn it off, it draws about 1.25 A, which is pretty normal.

You have to read about "USB PowerDelivery".
Alone PSU current efficiency has no effect on USB devices charging current.
Amount of current that the end device is able to absorb, is defined on the resistors (voltage dividers) which feeds the D+ and D- lines.

I am aware that the device would not ever (normally) draw more current than it is supposed to, regardless of the PSU used.
I did check some of the resistors at the time before my original post and they did seem to fall within spec. Besides, the phone would charge normally once powered down, so I doubt that it was such a simple problem as a resistor. Alas, this is an old thread and long ago I decided that the phone was not worth my time anymore, so I threw it away and thus I cannot recheck the circuit again. This will hopefully be helpful to people with similar problems in the future.
I think this is a software issue. Please tell me what version of ROM and baseband you have?
I was playing a lot with different roms, and in some cases I had the same issue. Eg when phone was chargeed from PC it was very slow.

As far I know, MAX77819 is charging the battery.
Using multimeter measure selected (PINK) test point and read if voltage vs GND is about 1.8V

I'm also not sure that i would be able to open the phone as I don't see how to open it !
It 's kind of weird that nobody else seems to have this kind of charging problem. Bad luck I guess.

I have exactly the same problem. Phone was purchased from tinydeal. Replaced ROM with international version because not been able to run Facebook and other applications. Working perfect for 1 month. Then suddenly stoped charging. When plugged indicator shows charging but percentage charged droped.
I was not able to use warranty because I cannot send products with lithium batteries internationally using regular mail.
The phone was at two service shops. They problem is this chip which should be responsible for charging is very difficult to replace. They could not repair it. Now I have ordered a motherboard from aliexpress for 70$. When the phone broke there were no options for purchasing motherboard.

I had the same problem after my first boot. I bought in Aliexpress. My solution was (more or less) easy.
I don't know why, powerful charger didn't work, but my old 5v-500mA worked 30 mins after connected. Once I had 10% battery I used stock charger and thats all.... very strange... Probably something wrong in battery..... who knows.... I hope this helps next time.

I just wanted to post a short topic letting other users know that there may be a charging issue with WW-5.17.44.68. A couple of days after updating to the most recent firmware I suddenly began having charging issues with my Zenfone 3 Deluxe special edition. Shortly after hooking up the factory charger I would receive this error message accompanied by the same alert sound that Amber Alerts use. The only way I was able to get the phone to charge at all was to roll back to my pre WW-5.17.44.68 nandroid. Trying different chargers with different cables made zero difference. The error is dead on as pulling out the USB cord you can clearly feel it is quite hot. Ignoring or missing this error will most likely guarantee a fried charge port (minimal)! Immediately after installing my backup all issues went away. I am currently charging with the factory charger and cable now without heat/error.

I just wanted to post a short topic letting other users know that there may be a charging issue with WW-5.17.44.68. A couple of days after updating to the most recent firmware I suddenly began having charging issues with my Zenfone 3 Deluxe special edition. Shortly after hooking up the factory charger I would receive this error message accompanied by the same alert sound that Amber Alerts use. The only way I was able to get the phone to charge at all was to roll back to my pre WW-5.17.44.68 nandroid. Trying different chargers with different cables made zero difference. The error is dead on as pulling out the USB cord you can clearly feel it is quite hot. Ignoring or missing this error will most likely guarantee a fried charge port (minimal)! Immediately after installing my backup all issues went away. I am currently charging with the factory charger and cable now without heat/error.

That's rough. I haven't bothered with the update because it's too much of a hassle right now to go to stock recovery and update. I think your best bet would be to stay on your backed up firmware and wait out the Oreo update (which should be soon as well.)
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully it isn't a widespread issue.

After feeling how hot the USB port/plug got I am in no hurry to try it again! I could even smell the charge board heating up. That is quite a gut-wrenching smell when it comes to a phone costing as much as this one. I too hope that it isn't a widespread issue.
I completed a full wipe before installing the firmware and tried multiple USB cords and chargers after. The only thing that fixed the issue was downgrading. That leaves the firmware as the main suspect which is why I decided to post my findings.
If anyone is considering updating PLEASE have a recent nandroid FIRST.

I did update to the newest firmware and I am charging using Zenfone 2 chargers, I just checked it out and it doesn't seem too hot.... maybe it applies only to QuickCharge chargers....
though I do have an issue that when my phone is locked (aka screen is turned off, phone is running... sleep mode) I have some screen flickering... the whole screen flashes white for just one second before turning off again... kinda annoying as it also wastes a lot of battery

If I recall correctly the Zenfone 2 charger supports the same range of voltages. 5-9-12 volts with varying amperage.
Your screen issues could quite possibly be caused by a rogue app. I've noticed using the "Always On" feature my phone will flash white from time to time. Not the entire screen mind you, just the clock being shown with full brightness for one cycle. If you have TWRP installed it would be worth a backup/wipe to see if it is indeed software. Good news time for everyone except me! After charging the phone twice the error message has shown its ugly face once again. So it seems that my phone is actually to blame :'-( I've cleaned the USB-C port with some contact cleaner sprayed onto a small piece of folded paper. So far it seems to have done the trick. USB-C is great for ease of use but not so great for keeping debris out.
I have found the actual cause of my issues. It's an unusual one so I thought I should share. It turns out that an old florescent table lamp I recently started using again basically turned itself into an EMP device. All of the electromagnetic interference feeding back through the surge protector has caused both my phone charger and my 6 bay 18650 (vaporizer) battery charger to malfunction. After unplugging the lamp the overheating issue has stopped. The phone charger no longer quick charges but I'll take that over a dead phone any day! The issue with my 6 bay charger, if you were curious is that I have to power cycle it each time i want to establish a bluetooth connection now. Its crazy some of the curveballs life can throw your way!

I am confronted with a, in my opinion, strange problem regarding my P-601 Samsung Note 10.10 2014 Edition.
I will try to provide every action I took and what I figured out so far that noone that wants to help will need his crystal ball. But the first actions are about a year ago, so forgive me if I cant remember exactly.
Device: Samsung Tablet Note 10.1 2014 Edition (P-601)
Problem: Charging slow AF but lives, can be turned on, can be loaded via USB. (But more power is drained while using than can be delivered by charging = dies sooner or later while beeing used)
OS: LineAge OS
First I thought, EASY - get a new battery, done. Wrong.
I ordered a new battery, a (2) "vhbw" battery for "T8220E" - same mentioned on the original Samsung battery.
This is a year ago, In my belief I did get the tablet to run, and charge- but had the same problems regarding the charging speed. Slow AF - but I am not sure! Life happend, things came inbetween so I did put everything aside. Now I want to use it in my home gym, so thats why I came up here.
My next suggestion was that the charge electronic maybe the problem, so I ordered a new one, built it in. Didnt change anything. The (1) Original battery, is still charging slow af.
The new battery, doesnt do anything! If the (2) "vhbw" battery is built in, I am not able to turn the tablet on OR charge it. Its just a brick with this battery.
So what did I do? I ordered a new battery, from a well known german company trading parts like this, a (3) "original samsung battery". Guess what, the tablet does nothing.
So i thought, maybe your new charging electronic is the problem. So I put the (1) Original Tablet battery in again, and well - it runs, can be turned on and can be charged (slow af).
So the charging electronic is fine. Display is also fine.
I did confirm this several times by changing the batterys in and out, the new batterys (2) and (3) are "dead", the (1) original battery runs.
Right now I am stuck. It seems that my Tablet is blocking any battery besides his original one.
Note: I cant access Recovery Mode with battery (2) and (3). Its really dead. They where also charged atleast an half an hour, just in case they were delivered "really dead at 0%", which would be new to me because most devices or batterys come with atleast 25% battery status.
Note2: Yes I did use a ****load of power adapter and cables all in combination, same result.
Any help is really appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hello, I came here looking for recommendations for a new battery for my SM-P600. Could you tell me where you ordered your OEM one from?
As far as your problem, do you have a multi-meter? There are very cheap basic ones if you don't. Anyway, you can test the seemingly dead batteries with it to determine if they are in fact dead, or something else is going on.
Secondly, do you happen to have a hobby charger? With these, you can charge pretty much any battery L-ion or other. You can also do a drain test with most of these to determine the capacity of a battery. That is all I can really think of thus far. Determine if the batteries are dead. Oh one more thing you could do with the multi-meter is test the current being applied to the battery. I believe there are some free apps in the Google Play Store that can also tell you the electrical current going into the battery. Perhaps by doing this you can determine if the problem is something in the tablet itself. If I think of anything else, I will let you know.

Funny that you say that with the "dead battery", because I just had the same thought 10 Minutes ago. Those batterys were manufactured years ago I guess and were just sitting cozy in their boxes, I guess they are deep discharged. (hope this vocab is correct).
I have pretty much everything that is measured "useless" in a normal household, but sadly no multi-meter (no more). If those batterys are deeply discharged, it should be possible to be reanimated with very low charging power. The lowest I should have is a USB 2.0 Port on my pc (which were it is connected right now) or a oldschool dumb power bank without any intelligence).
I will keep this updated.

It worked. About an hour connected to a USB 2.0 port of my computer, and it just popped back into live. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
There have been reports of the plugs of replacement batteries for these tablets not fitting properly.
Also bad solder joints at the battery connector.
And a certain behaviour i oberved myself, requiring certain custom roms or chargers in case of my P605:
In soft-off state tablet will charge at 0,5A instead of 2A max
and
When powered on it will charge at full power until the screen switches off and it enters standby. Then no charge at all.
