I'm retarded and need help pleases admin - Sprint LG G2

Ok I was running d3rp m1. Got the zvc upgrade notification and updated. Phone keeps rebooting into recovery.
I wiped everything except internal re installed m1. Same thing keeps rebooting into recovery.
Please someone tell me what the crap to do

Install the ZVC .tot via LG Flashtool, and in future never do OTA updates on a rooted phone along with custom recovery, custom rom.

Verizon guide, it applies to us as well just use Sprint .tot and dll:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960
Remeber you need Verizon USB driver installed.
Use the dll on the bottom of this site.
http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/Sprint+LS980/

Do this for me first and foremost.
Power phone off
Push and hold volume up when you place USB cable in phone. Phone will say download mode or something similar small.
It will then proceeded to a large screen with a status bar.
If you can get there.... We can save you

Follow instructions in Verizon thread except paste the dll from the site I showed (It works I checked) and the ZVC.tot file in the general section. You have to extract the dll from rar file.

I am assuming your phone keeps booting to TWRP. What worked for me was from the TWRP terminal command was to type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
then hit enter
type
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc
then hit enter and reboot.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO MAKE ANY SPELLING ERRORS OR YOUR PHONE MAY BE BRICKED.

[ROOT] LG Nitro HD Root Method - *Not working on latest update*

Hi all,
I've uploaded this root method because it is the only way I have been able to get root on the first try every time.
Your results may vary. If you don't get it first try, just try again.
Here are the methods I have tried and had fail:
UnlockRoot
Doomlord v1
Doomlord v4
TPSparky
SuperOneClick (Any Version)
So here you go! Here is a method that I have had 100% success with. I will be editing the script to try and make it more clean and less work on your part in the future. I will post new versions on this thread when I get them done.
Required Downloads
LG Nitro HD Root.zip
Enabling Root Rights
Enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources.
Unzip the zip file to the location of your choice.
Run the file named “Root.bat”.
Follow the instructions on in the CMD window.
Notes
Here is a list of the apps that I have found will brick your Nitro if removed:
AT&T Address Book
AT&T Navigator
Google Play Books*
Google Play Movies*
Google Play Music
Google Play Store/Market
removal of at&t addressbook and navigator doesn't brick your device !
i confirm this !

Thank you for your input. But, I have removed both of them individually and bricked it. Also, several others have reported in other threads that it has. I believe it just depends on how much luck you have.
Just tried... no worky.
Again, I am trying to root on 2.3.5. Zerg fails, SOC wont make it past rebooting adb...

Matt your instructions for root say to extract from zip, root.bat. But your link takes me to a apk root file not a zip file...
can you be more specific or maybe the link is misdirected?
are you saying this is a root method via apk from phone?
IM starting to remember why I sold my g2x....nothing changes eh LG??

But as to what? Run the apk on your pc o_0
His directions say dl zip, yet there is no zip it directs you to a page that looks like what may have been in the zip? Still not clear
The apk root ...it shows up on the phone but still unclear.
Need the link fixed or to be clarified please Mattman when you get a chance thank you.
Edit: is the zip you were refering to the lg tool that reverts you to v18f ?
If so will this work on official ics release via lg tool.
Thanks again in advance

Terribly sorry... The privacy settings on my Google Drive must have been reset somehow.
I've fixed it so that the zip should show now.
But it now says that you have binned the file. It works right, doesn't it?
Mattman your script isnt working.
When I hit "any key to continue" it flashes..but its not flashing anything.
Cmd window turns off (checked process not running at all)
nothing happens.
No instructions , nothing. cmd. window just exits.
so guesse thats another brick wall for root on lg updated firmware to ics.
Mattman sorry but this method does not work.
Or I should say it did not work for me.
I even put togewther my own rendition of your files that you compiled still would not work.
In fact I am now convinced the ONLy root method for the nitro running it the one here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30209937#post30209937
Im not saying anything against your method, it looks solid, but it would not work.
I tried it on v20c and v18f.
I now have root but want to say your efforts and work are appreciated.
I hope this is not considering hijacking the thread I wanted to post this for others with the same issues.
EDIT: Mattman I been searching through the threads and seen that you initialy used this method off of 2.3.6? Meaning you rooted from 2.3.6? ( from the cwm thread you came up with a way via script to run cwm) I am wondering maybe your method only works from 2.3.6? what firmware did you originally root from?
i tried this method on my v20c and my wife is not working.. and never get root??

My phone's stuck on 2.3.6, can't upgrade or root

Hi everyone. I had a long journey trying to root my phone, I originally had ICS and tried following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645 It was able to get my phone rooted by step 7, but then I couldn't get into recovery mode, it kept giving me:
---------------
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
-------------------------
------------------------------
Enter the fastboot...
Enter the fastboot...
Long time no see!
-------------------------------------------------
So I thought perhaps this doesn't matter at this stage and so I continued on with the tutorial. Eventually (long story short) something happened and now I have downgraded to Android 2.3.6 but my phone is no longer rooted (I don't have 'super user' app and root checker says I'm not rooted). I tried upgrading back to at least ICS through software update but it gives me a "you are not registered" (or something like that) and won't update.
I have no idea what to do now. I honestly just want to get ICS back and give up on this whole rooting attempt. Any ideas/help appreciated.
You should have followed this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
It's newer and much easier. Now for the problem at hand, run the v18f exe file from the above guide. That should fix the issue you have then be able to get to any rom from there. Make sure you follow the guide precisely.

Thanks for the reply. I actually was able to just use the LG update on it's own to get ICS back, though the phone isn't rooted anymore.
At some point I did try the tutorial you sent but it wouldn't let me get into recovery mode, it gave me the error I mentioned. I'm just wondering though, if I use that tutorial again, will it work with ICS and v20f? Also, by the end of it what will i get? a rooted phone with Gingerbread? (sorry if they're stupid questions, I'm still learning).

You got that error because you tried to install CWM with the ICS boot loader still installed. The link I provided has you install v18f so it can be rooted and them use the program to keep root so you can downgrade to Gingerbread so CWM can be installed.
One more thing: if all you want is root but don't care about installing another ROM use this to root v20c and stay 100% stock other than root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460

Okay, I get it. I think I might've missed a step somewhere along the line or something. However, as you said, I really just want to root to give myself the super user ability/app since I find it helpful. I did try the link you provided before and now again but it won't work. First of all I have v20f not v20c (is that why?). Second, I choose normal mode, and then it tells me to look at my phone and click restore. My phone shows a window saying "Restore my data" and "Do not restore" but also asks for a password. Since I don't think I have a password I click on Restore my data (and leave those field blank). My phone says "Restore Starting"...then it says "Restore ended" (within a few seconds) but the Bin4ry bat file won't move on to the next step. It just stays at "Running..." Any ideas?

Ok now we are getting somewhere. First of all v20(x) doesn't matter. If it hangs on you saying "running" just close the "command" window, and try again. The couple of times I have tried it it has always done that the first time but then worked the second or third time. It is at that point the phone is supposed to reboot. Good luck.

First off, thanks for keeping up with me. Well, after like the fifth try, using a way of opening the bat file through cmd manually (not sure how it's any different) I actually got it to say "Successful" and it actually rebooted my device!!...However, it then said something like "Permission denied (are you root?)" or mount failed. So although the file said at the end that my root was successful, I realize it really wasn't and I even made sure; I don't have super user or anything and even root check doesn't say I'm rooted.
I tried it one more time after, but again, it wouldn't reboot. So I tried it again and this time after clicking Restore, I unplugged and plugged my USB. It did say "success" and rebooted my device, though again, the same "mount" error came up and my device isn't rooted.
Any ideas??
Two questions: first what version of windows? Second how are you launching the bat file?
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
I have Windows 7 64 bit and initially I just launched the bat file but double clicking it/opening it normally. However, as I mentioned, the one time it did work I opened the file using this method: youtube . com/ watch?v=7EpkrCq1gfM (all you do is launch the bat file 'manually' more or less by opening cmd prompt then directing it to the folder with the bat file, then running the bat file)
Okay I will thing you might try.... Copy the bat file along with the stuff folder to c:\. This is a wild stab in the dark but under Windows 7 the root folder has different permissions than sub folders and then just double click on the bat file from there.
If you are still having issues use this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
Basically you get the ICS leak v18f use the tpsparky method to root then using the keep root method to keep root while you upgrade to v20f.

You can follow the whole guide if you want to install CWM. However if you use v20f as your kdz file or any other ics kdz this will accomplish what you want.... Rooted ics. Do you have the kdz file for v20f? Or another way to look at it is the whole purpose of the before and after bat files is to maintain root when going from one rom to another. You don't have to go to Gingerbread only if you want to install CWM.
I just wish I knew why you were having to many issues.... Try this open a windows command prompt and go to the stuff folder and type the following command:
adb device
What do you get back in response?

if his problem happened the same as mine after trying to boot into cwm for the first time you get the error, becuase lg has a secure bootloader. after this i had to follow the unbrick guide, eventually you end up with at&t stock rom, then you are able to boot into cwm and install a custom rom like CM
One thing just occurred to me you need to stop at step 18 on the unbricking guide. If the KDZ that you are using is one of the v20(x)_00.kdz variants do not use adb to push the recovery.img file this WILL brick your phone and cause the secure boot error this is used to push recovery onto v10(x)_00.kdz only.

Um, you mean stop at step 18 of the original guide you linked me or the one that KronicSkillz is suggesting? I honestly just use whatever the guide says/provides, I don't bring in any outside files. Previously I mentioned I might use another one because you suggested it would work well for me by keeping ICS. But originally I just follow the guides step by step.

At the end you'll end up with AT&T stock gingerbread. in the middle you'll be running a stock korean rom, but that is temporary.
as per your 2nd comment if you resintall stock ICS that will rebrick your recovery and CWM will cause another error if you ever try to run it.
this is the reason your phone had the errors you posted
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
-------------------------
------------------------------
Enter the fastboot...
Enter the fastboot...
Long time no see!
If the whole purpose behind this is you just want ICS why didn't you just run the LG update tool, STOCK ICS can be updated with their stock PC usb tool.
anyways its too late for that.
to save your phone you have to follow that guide to restore it to original AT&T Gingerbread. then you perform a backup with CWM and THEN you can flash whatever ROM you want on your phone be it custom or Stock ICS. I have a feeling flashing the stock ics might rebrick your recovery though. not 100% sure on if it will or not.
---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 PM ----------
as per your question about which guide, i think we both linked you the same guide, except the one i linked was the Sticky version that was a little more detailed (i think) but in either case you should pick one guide and stick to it don't read both of them and go back and fourth you could get easily confused even though like i said i think they are the same guide/method of unbricking. There is a reason though that the guide i linked is the TOP STICKY on the forums for this phone. Because it is the solution to unbrick all p930s who have gotten bricked, which is almost anyone who updated their phone since they bought it, a few ppl got lucky and had Roms old enough that LG hadn't locked their recovery yet and they didn't get the error you were seeing.
The only reason I suggested stopping at step 18 was because it seemed like the v20f kdz file was being installed instead of the v10f because of the secure boot error. V20f is ICS, there is no logical reason why v10f is generating the error. Which kdz file are you flashing during that step in the guide?

Yet another jb guide.

1. you have to be rooted and on STOCK ZV9. the easiest way in my option is to lgnpst. here is a guide http://pastebin.com/g8hXBaaA
use this v9 tot file instead of the v7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091883&highlight=tot
2. you need to root v9 with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050582
3. you need to download the update zip and rename it update.zip. http://d-h.st/0a9
4. you need to move update.zip to /cache using a file explorer (this is why you need root)
5. reboot into stock recovery. get into stock recovery by holding vol down+ home button+ power button until captive lights flash then release.
for some people programs such as romtoolbox's rebooter works and for others it doesnt but you can try.
6. choose "apply update from cache." then "update.zip"
7. you are now running JB.
8. restore root by using root keeper
9. if you want to reroot use the same method for zv9 above
Congrats, you have rooted jellybean!

Noob Question about this guide
First of all, thank you all for what you do for the Android community
I am obviously a noob, so please bear with me.
I recently used engine95's guide to root and unlock my Sprint LG Optimus G. It was simple and worked perfectly. I have not yet had a chance to attempt flashing any rom's and just noticed that I can actually have Jelly Bean now. So, I am rooted and unlocked. I have recently downloaded Titanium Backup, FreeGee, ROM Manager, Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, and ES File Explorer. I chose TWRP during the unlock procedure with FreeGee. I am now running Titanium Backup on everything (seems to be stuck at 96% with YouTube).
I am about to run through javskies guide to flashing JB (this guide just made more sense to me). I am hoping Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper will keep me from having to root again after the update, but if not, I think I can handle rooting again.
My main questions are:
1) I noticed something in another post about uninstalling FreeGee due to its current incompatibility with JB. Is this correct?
2) Looking at step 4 of javskies guide
4. you need to move update.zip to /cache using a file explorer (this is why you need root)

, I noticed that I do not see a file named 'cache' either when using ES File Explorer or Windows Explorer. (I haven't figured out how to paste a screenshot into a post, so I attached a JPEG screenshot.)
3) Because I did not see the /cache folder, I looked at the Flashing Guide and now I am even more confused because the steps for

seem a bit out of my leauge...or maybe I am being lazy.
4) How would you all handle a wife/significant other who wants to kill me for spending hours on end reading through posts?
Honestly, if I can grasp how to manage the .zip file correctly in this procedure, I am sure I will be fine.
Because I know it matters...quick thanks to javskies, engine95, fiddy619, and kc_exactly for (unknowingly) getting me this far. Also to _Epic, who apparently is losing his patience with Android illiterates, like myself
Good grief, I hope this post ends up looking right...it is my very first time posting...(just noticed the 'preview' button.)
Thanks guys!
Cache is a folder in the root directory. That is the very bottom of directories. If your rooted you will see it. Put the file there.
And freegee is not compatible for the jelly bean update. So, you are correct to remove it. It will cause a soft brick.
The app is safe just sitting there. But if you run it after the update you will have problems. So, I would remove it for now. Out of sight, out of mind.
Part of the steps to fix the soft brick will be too format the whole phone. So, remove it. The creator of the app is a very active member here on xda. He is working on a fix. Just check back on xda. We will all know when it is fixed.
And it doesn't bother me what guide you use. If you read the bottom of my guide it is basically the same as this one.
I am not a hater. I like to help everyone. There is no competition.
The update process is confusing for new people. There is no way around it. Just follow the steps and you will be fine.

As for the wife. Just say what we all do.
"Honey, I am sorry, I have to fix my phone."
Or
"Hey, one sec, I have to fix my phone"
Basically, any combination of something like that usually works.

Also just a heads up, after u download esfile explorer, u need to go to settings and way towards the bottom there r root settings. Make sure u have the appropriate options checked so u can back out of your sdcard folder. Super user will ask u to grant permission once u check the first option. Grant it. That way u can get to that cache folder that you need.

Thank you, bowhunt. I was feeling a bit too stupid to ask again after kc's thoughtful response. I will stop googling how to access the root folder now :victory:

Finally got the downloaded zip file to the cache folder. Rebooting to recovery takes me to TWRP. Install failed. Is it because I am unlocked? Do I need to return to stock and re-root?

This guide worked well for me - I'm now ZVB stock rooted (not unlocked but do have FreeGee bought and installed). The hardest part was getting recovery to boot
Thanks javskies, your guide worked perfectly. I'm now back to stock rooted ZVB.
I dont know why this guide has been lost in the forums. I coudnt find it until you helped me out javskies.
This guide is perfect for those who want stock zvb that have locked phones.

Actually, shelnutt had a way but he said there was also a risk of bricking my phone. I told him I couldnt because I dont have insurance nor do I have a backup phone. I will do it his way within time once I can get a backup phone. Hopefully, within two months.
He also said there were many people in the same situation that can't unlock phone. He's also trying to find the problem and work out a solution in the future.

[RECOVERY] TWRP Method for ROOT users

THIS METHOD FOR USERS WITH ROOT ONLY
There is now a TWRP supported for the LS980 which can be found here.
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/197
click the sprint link and download the most current version
Here is the direct link to Sprint TWRP model from TWRP website
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr
If you have ZVA firmware installed, please read this thread posted below before proceeding!!!!! You must flash zv7-aboot.img before flashing TWRP recovery since the zva-aboot.img does not allow you to run TWRP recovery. See thread below on the changes in the ZVA firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627765
Using terminal emulator to flash zv7-aboot.img on your phone
Code:
dd if=/path/to/your/zv7-aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
Using adb to flash zv7-aboot.img to your phone.
Code:
1. Download the zv7-aboot.img file and place the zv7-aboot.img in the ioroot folder location.
2. Hold shift and right click in a blank area of the ioroot folder on your PC and select "open command window here"
3. Type adb push zv7-aboot.img /sdcard/
4. Type adb shell
(If you do not see a # type su and hit enter so that you see the #)
5. Type dd if=/sdcard/zv7-aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
Once done with that place the .img or zip file onto your phone.
Once done with that go to the market and install this app on your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
Then open the app and select recovery image
then browse to where the file is stored ( more than likely its sdcard . . .)
Then hit yep this is correct (if it is)
Done!
This method is for TWRP 2.6.3.2 not for the updated version of TWRP i recommend installing 2.6.3.2 and the using that recovery to install the newest one:
To to that place the openrecovery-twrp2.6.3.3.g2spr.zip on your internal sd
then load up recovery
press the install button
then look for the openrecovery-twrp2.6.3.3.g2spr.zip
swipe to install
ps: to boot into recovery manually press and hold volume down and then power and hold it down both buttons together and it will boot to TWRP
make sure to thank @leroybrute for the flashify idea
ADDITIONALLY when you have done this the very first thing that you NEED to do is go into TWRP and make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM. I have seen so many people lately not doing this and having major problems. This is very important!!!!
Latest official version of TWRP: 2.6.3.3
Please do NOT download and install any other unofficial versions of TWRP since help will be very limited.
As always, I DO NOT TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY for what happens to your phone. Please research and ask questions if you are not sure what you are doing.
Here are the adb and fastboot files you need. Extract this zip file into a folder and put your TWRP recovery image in this folder and follow the tutorial video.
WACOMalt's TWRP flashing method located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2449670
You will need to download the loki tools which are explained in the tutorial video.
You need to download the Sprint TWRP file here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr
WACOMalt also posted a tutorial video on how to flash recovery using his method shown here:

No you had the right guy, and I don't want credit. It is also the right app. This stems from your thread in general thread asking about recovery. I gave the answer in the second post with no credit. Instead got bashed in a sense and ignored.
I have had the Vs980 since release and since I got the Ls980 I thought I could help with what I have learned from there.
I also have wireless tether working on my Ls980.
But I think I will back out of the Sprint development.

Today is a hectic day since the Sprint subforum just created and I was just referencing existing threads that other variants have used for rooting and flashing recovery. I didn't even know about the Flashify app so thanks for giving us the heads up. None of us meant to ignore you but please don't take it personally. I didn't follow the Verizon thread too much and obviously I didn't even know about. Any lessons learned or easier methods to do stuff that you are aware of please continue to contribute to the Sprint development.
Since you mentioned it? Do you mind sharing how you got wireless tether to work on the LS980? I can create a new thread for wireless tether and will give credit to you and whoever else contributed to the wireless tether mod for the Sprint version.

[Q] TWRP v500.. Stuck

I am trying to install twrp 2.6.3.0 using a one click method that I found to work for others. I am rooted and it appears everything should work but I keep getting this blinking prompt and the process does not move any further. In all the directions it says to just follow the multiple prompts but I can't seem to get past this. Does anyone know what this means or what I could be doing wrong? Anyone else hit the same speed bump?

That is an adb shell running under superuser on your tablet. There may be some script it wants you to run on the tablet. I personally am using CWM so I don't know all that much about TWRP (I didn't even put CWM on mine, I had a friend come over and help with that). So I know what that is but not why you have it or what you should do with it. Sorry.

Because nobody reads anything anymore. They just piecemeal together instructions from other devices and what they think will work and then cry and complain when it doesn't when they didn't follow instructions in the first place.
I will admit I did work all day and picked the v500 up the same day and just wanted to go home and have it just gel. Stayed up really late trying to put pieces together but for people unfamiliar with command prompts and such the "easy" methods can just come off as foreign. I used this post as a last resort. I appreciate people who create one click methods but if it wasn't for newbs then what would be the point of them at all? A guy has to start somewhere and learn as he goes.

I'm not sure what you want at this point. Did you go to the TWRP thread in the Original Android Development subforum? If so, find the link for TWRP 2.6.3.2 and download it to your PC. Move the file to your G Pad. Download the Flashify app from the Play Store. Open the app, and navigate to "Flash Recovery". Navigate to the file that you downloaded and flash it. That's it. Get Flashify and install it . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349847.
Then go here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551499.
Download the apropriate file ( V50010a /b /c , depending of what version you have on you tab ) then you will have to rename the file to TWRP.img , then download http://goo.gl/UlPy11 wich is the flashable TWRP.ZIP.
Now copy those two files for you SD or externalSD.
Run flashify and select Recovery Image and use the file you renamed to TWRP.img and flash it,don´t reboot yet, select ZIP File and flash v500-TWRP_2.6.3.1-recovery.zip , wich the flashable zip you´ve downloaded second.
Now reboot and you should have your recovery.
