D.I.Y Grippy Rubber Shell Cover - Moto G Accessories

I've been a huge fan of this product for years ---> http://www.plastidip.com/
It's basically a spray on rubberized coating that is also 100% REMOVABLE!
I have been using it on trim pieces and rims on my car for years.
Out of sheer boredom, I decided I would try the product on my Moto G battery cover.
Turned out great!!
On my last coat, I got near the bottom of the can (was using left overs), so a couple of bubbles appeared.
But this was just a proof of concept, spur of the moment situation.
Next time I am going to use a fresh can, and maybe a different colour.
Anyway, here are my results!
Tell me what you think!

Here are some pics of me removing the coating. Peels off easily. Leaves no marks.

Looks nice! But maybe a bit too ruggy, not for the bubbles, on the rest too. But I guess that happens with any spray painting Unluckily. Anyway, looks nice to me

Thanks. The thing is that it's not paint. It's fully removable and leaves no trace. This was just a rush job with some almost empty left over cans. Just wanted to see how well it would sick. Going for a different color and better quality next time

One phone ago I sprayed my Nexus S's battery cover with clear Plasti-Dip and it did not hold well at the edges, and would start peeling away rather quickly.
Please keep us posted, and if it does work, maybe some tips on application or something?

POst back when you have tried it! I should be getting one to review as well
Will do

I eagerly wait for your review! I have been looking at cases for my SG2, and this one may be the perfect one. This case would make it much easier for designing a tripod adapter.
It looks as though the buttons holes are too deep to use them, maybe it is just how it looks to me. I hope so. I want to get one of these as soon as I know about the button holes.

Those look awesome. However I wonder if they have a liner or something on the inside to prevent damaging the phone itself.
According to the website OP linked they do.

Raises up the camera and screen so as to have less chance of scratches on either, less chance of scratching the sides, which seem to me the most tender in terms of scratches, and offers an easier item to hold. I only want to know if the holes are too deep to use the volume and power button. If that is the case, than I wont buy one. But they do look really :awsm.
One of these in black + a Zagg Invisible shield should be the way to go Pitty BestSkinsEver don't have quicker shipping options to AUS
Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts.please keep us updated.

Damn these look sexy. Especially the gun metal and matte black. A review would be appreciated!
Wish they didn't say "Taurus" on the back and side though.

Airbrushing isn't that hard, just sand the thing down, prime it, sand it, paint it, then clear coat. Take you about a days wait, with about 2hours work.
if you're lucky, the letters will be in plastic, this way you can use a sugar cube to scratch it off. the reason for the sugar cube is because its not hard enough to scratch the paint/metal off yet strong enough to remove plastic lettering

(yet another)Carbon Fiber Battery Cover

Seeing there are several threads about people laying down black carbon fiber look vinyl on their phones, here's one done in silver. I got ripped off on eBay when I thought the listing was for genuine 3M Di-Noc, but the results turned out decent enough to share. Major problem with the cheap vinyl is that it stretches out way too easily and it melts at a lower temperature than the quality film.

Looks pretty sweet! Is that stuff adhesive, or do you have to use some sort of glue?
Yes, it is adhesive backed. Like I said I got the off brand stuff, the 3M branded Di-Noc works much better. There are numerous clips on youtube about the stuff and how to use it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL0nOpvkTb4 <=== link to video showing install on a BMW steering wheel.

I've got black 3M textured Carbon, but I think the stuff would be way too thick to work on the backing. I'll try it though, have a ton left from my computer.
The 3M branded film works great on the back. You just have to trim it right at the edges of the cover instead of folding over the underside a bit. That pic turned out looking white? It is silver. They have 500! other colors. I dont know about the other 500 varieties but the carbon fiber look films are actually textured and have a good grip to them.
I went ahead and put the fiber on my backplate.... It looks awesome, but the lip is killing me....
Edit: The fiber was pretty thick, so an idea struck me. I stuck it on the back directly, instead of on the cover. Fits great, feels great. Might add another layer to get rid of some of the 'give' between components.
Ridges are a whole heck of a lot more visible in photos, but aren't they always?
Phone is an extra mm thinner, and a bit lighter too. In addition, the battery no longer falls out in those big drops

diztronic clear tpu case

so the diztronic cases are amazing. they are really great and fit perfect and are cheap ($10) ETC. but i found that they yellow incredibly fast. first it was the sides then my entire phone....
its everyday use. have it in my jean pocket and take it out. thats it! its crazy. it reminds me of the jordan shoes with the clear soles back in the day where the soles yellow naturally bc the material comes in contact with oxygen, causing yellowing.

go to your hardware store, its 5bucks. completely removable if you dont like. i used to dip my chrome parts of our cars.
That'll look good for about 20 seconds until I put it in my pocket and the edge starts to peel up.
Plasti-dip works well for things which are either 100% covered or aren't being handled.
The edges will peel up soon.
Not mine. You have to wait to fully dry. I waited 1hr and its on my garage since it's very hot

To answer the question, plastidip is removable. Peels right off.
Lol meant jump
That dip is easy to remove he aint worried about T-Mobile
Plastidip peels right off, no worries about it. And if it doesn't peel in one piece, it will peel into pieces that you can just pull apart. The more coat you put, the thicker and stronger they become. There are different ways of applying it too, yielding different results. If you spray it from afar, you get micro droplets and they come out matte and bumpy after several coats, like OP's outcome. But if you spray from up close, maybe about 2-3 inches, in short bursts, it will dry with a shinier sheen to it. After a few coats, it'll be a rubbery shiny coat. Not glossy, but more like Satin-Semi Gloss. Make sure to get the edges well as well, otherwise the edges will peel easily due to its thinness.

hah that looks awesome! I was actually thinking about doing that myself and ordered a spare back to try lol
Nice! I might try this. Speaking of slippery, I threw my phone out of my car window the other day. I pulled up to the drive-thru at starbucks, pulled my phone out to pay and it slipped right out of my hand, flew at the barista, bounced off the drive-thru window and flew behind the car. The barista looked back at it and said, "Nice, your screen didn't shatter."

Other than that, the injection molding mark: you can see it clearly in the picture above on the red case (to the left of the speaker hole). If you've ordered one of our Nexus 5 cases in the past 3 months or so, or any of our S5 and LG G3 Cases, you probably received a case that had a similar mark on the bottom. This is where the plastic gets injected into the mold, afterwords a small mark is left. We used to put it on the bottom or top corner of our cases, or sometimes along the edge of the microUSB hole in an attempt to hide it. The factory recently figured out a new technique to make it a small dot on the bottom of the case instead of the larger and longer mark we had before. It looks a lot better than the old mark on the corner of the case did, but I know no one wants a mark on their case no matter how it looks. I'd love to put it on the inside of the case, but I'm told that isn't an option.

It kind of slides in my opinion, but then again of course it will since we're so used to the Sandstone being so grippy. But I don't really ever have the idea of my phone sliding out of my hand when using the Diztronic TPU. I'm really bad at explaining these kind of things but I hope that helps.
I don't have any issues with it.
