Can't send sms/mms messages. I can receive but can't send. - Oppo Find 7 and 7a

Hey guys….I can receive SMS and MMS messages and emails. Everything is working great. Except…i cannot send SMS/MMS messages…..
Anyone see this before?

Are you using the stock Messaging app?
I'm having problems with some 3rd party options and working with a dev on it right now.
Edit: The obvious thing to check would be your APN configuration.
What carrier you on?

Have you registered your phone with your carrier? I reckon my carrier (Vodafone PT) won't recognize the Oppo, so i might have to go to a Vodafone shop and have that sorted out, i want my 4G LTE.

Thanks Guys....I was using the 8SMS messaging app from KitKat. That was the problem. The issue went away when I switched back to the stock messaging app....
Thanks for all the help!

Hah yep, 8sms no go for me either.
I've spoken with a dev and sent them a logcat of the issue, hopefully they can make some headway.
I finally found Textra works great and HIGHLY recommend over stock Messages app. Give it a shot if not already familiar.

I have a question. I'm on Vodafone PT with a data plan. When i receive my Find 7a, will it work flawlessly with the carrier? I mean, 4G speeds out of the bat, MMS and SMS, etc? Or will i have to go to the carrier to sort it out. It's because, with all these threads on different forums about carrier issues i became really confused.

I can recieve messages but my problem is I cant send messages

Can't recieve MMS or send MMS on stock Android

Before, I was using sense 6.0 and MMS was working very well. I can use data and wifi at the same time to recieve or send MMS, and it was quick. I converted my phone to GPE, and now it MMS seems to not work. I know I'm recieving it but it never goes through. Any help? Is there a way I can use data and wifi to recieve MMS just like using Sense?
EDIT: LET ME REPHRASE IT. I can recieve or send MMS but only on LTE. With sense ROM when I'm recieving MMS on WiFi, it switches to LTE to recieve or send MMS. It doesn't work on stock Android. How do I do this on stock Android?

I believe so. I'm using T-Mobile.
I'm also on WiFi.
Mms sends over cell service, not wifi. The reason it worked on the sense rom is that the sense messenger is designed to send it over cell. So even if you're on wifi, it's sending the mms over cell using a background service.
Messengers available on the market don't do this... I think because it would require root access but I never looked I to it so I'm not totally sure.

Bumping this up, I'm having the same trouble, running T-Mobile LTE/Wifi on my unlocked ATT HTC One M8.
Looked up several apn settings still no luck, anyone wanna post their tmobile m8's apn to compare mine? For some reason I don't get the option to select ipv4 or ipv6 in my apn settings which I think is my issue, but then again who knows. :/
I'm receiving, but I can't download them to display or send them via both LTE and wifi.

[Q] T-Mobile HTC One M8 MMS issues??

Hey fellas,
I had the HTC One M8 last year (now the Sony Xperia Z3), and my sister is looking to possibly get the M9 when it comes out next month via T-Mobile. The M8 was a great phone, but I remember in order to get MMS messages, I had to ditch the stock text messaging app and get Chomp SMS, which worked great with MMS messages too (unlike the stock one which didn't).
For those that have T-Mobile and STILL have the M8, how are things regarding MMS messages? Are you having any issues with this at all, or no? If so, please detail them here. Also, when you respond, please state which app you're using (i.e. stock, Chomp SMS, Textra, etc).
Thanks,
RockStar2005
I use chompsms, but you need to remember that all 3rd party sms programs will not send mms over wifi-calling. So if you use wifi-calling and you need to send mms (can't remember about receiving) you need to use the stock sms client.
-brad
brad,
Yeah I found all that out VERY early when I switched to T-Mobile. lol I just leave WiFi Calling off. I don't bother with stock texting apps b/c HTC's and my current Z3's stock texting apps suck and can't handle MMS properly.
So you have had NO issues with MMS then? You didn't have to do anything special besides disabling Wi-Fi Calling and using Chomp?
Yeah I use Textra (since switching to my Sony) which is made by the same company that created Chomp SMS. I actually like it better. You may wanna try that out too if you're up for a change. My guess is it will still work just fine.
Thanks,
RockStar2005
correct, other than leave wifi-calling off that was it and I have been doing this on both the stock 4.4.4 and the stock 5.0.1 roms

brad,
Ok, great to know! Thanks so much!!
My sister MAY get the M9 next month (hopefully over the S6, blahhh! lol), so it'll be nice to know that if she does, she won't have any issues.
Oh yeah, did you disable the stock texting app? If so, did you also turn off notifications for it (in its "App info" screen)?
RockStar2005
All i did was to disable notification, and 'set' the default sms app to chomp.
So if I need to use mms over wifi-calling I still can.
-brad
brad,
Ok so you didn't disable the stock text app, just turned off its notification option, and of course set default to Chomp.
When I used the stock text app on the M8, it would get the MMS messages, but none of the other party names would show up, so I had no idea who else was involved in the MMS group/pic text. That was my main reason for switching to Chomp.
Ok off-topic, but do you notice an improvement with pics on the M8 when you enable HDR? I remember it helped but just wondering. Reviews for the M9's camera haven't been too much better, but it is still in pre-release, so hopefully the final version will impress.
RockStar2005
Also, for your stock text app, which options under its Settings menu do you have enabled? If any.
Thanks,
RockStar2005
- Haven't really compared picture quality, my eyes are just not that good to notice
- Just checked for you, recieved unchecked, sent not unchecked, failure checked, vibrate when sent checked....on sms settings only sms characters is checked....mms is auto-retrieve checked... and in general checked are: show sent message history, show call history, save block message in block box
brad,
No big deal. I would try it, esp when you're outside. You can also make it your default too by creating a second "mode" in camera and making that your default (I called it "Camera 2").
Ok thanks man! I appreciate the details too.
P.S. I had the LG G2 before the M8 too. Nice!

MMS problems

Am I the only person experiencing MMS problems? I have always had MMS problems, pictures won't download, MMS won't send. I have been running mostly CM or other custom roms on my S4 for several years. I attributed my problems to the custom roms, maybe APN problems. I have been running stock OE2 for a couple days on my S6, and have already had similar MMS problems. Is this just the way it is on Sprint or do I have a fundamental problem with the app I am using? I have been using Hangouts. Is there something better or is this the best I can expect? All my family members have iPhones and never have any MMS problems. Not going there, but I am pretty feed up with Sprint, android, or Hangups MMS problems.
Hey I was just about to post something about this. I believe the issue is with googles messaging apps (Hangouts or messenger). For some reason both of these apps are determined to use mobile data to send MMs. This often times flat out doesn't work and you end up with MMS messages not coming through. Even when you are connected to wifi it will still try and send the MMS over mobile data.
However if you use the stock samsungs stock messaging app MMS sends MMS over wifi and is much better at sending and receiving over mobile data.
I am not sure why this is happening. Probably something with APNs. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make googles messaging apps work well with MMS let us know !

@balistic2 thanks. I really like Hangouts, but don't like the MMS issue. I am going to switch to stock Samsung for awhile to see if it is any better.
Ya hangouts is great b/c is puts all your gchats and text into one conversation. However when I get an MMS it is awful.

Not if it is a hangouts issue. No problems so far on stock messenger, but too early to tell.
Ya something in Hangouts/Google Messenger doesn't use the correct APNs. To try it yourself get on wifi. Send an MMS with the samsung stock messaging app. Watch to see if your mobile data becomes active. (it shouldn't b/c you are on wifi). Now do the same thing with hangouts/Google Messenger while on wifi. Does your mobile data turn on when trying to send a MMS via a google app?

Hi
I had the same issues as every one with not being able to send or receive mms.Believe me when i say i tried everything out there to no avail
My solution/problem was a very easy fix (after weeks of trial and error)Go to settings then data usage then turn mobile data on
you should see a graph with your usage. All you do is adjust your data usage to say 9 gig or something high and that is it
What i can gather why this works is because if your data is set at say 2 gig it restricts what can be downloaded ie mms
Good luck i hope this helps
Also try calling: ##update#
This will update your PRL and such, it could help

SMS settings missing in Verizon S8+

I originally ordered and used the S8+ on T-Mobile. I wasn't happy with the service, returned the device after using it for a week and a half and went back to Verizon and i'm noticing differences between the 2 different carrier phone model (which i expected to see).
The S8+ on T-Mobile allowed me send SMS messages (using the native Samsung Message app) that were as long as i wanted and they did not get broken up. On my new Verizon S8+ all incoming and outgoing messages are cut up and sent individually. On the T-Mobile version, there were settings in the Message app to change the different SMS settings and coding and that are missing on the Verizon model. I even enabled and used the terrible Verizon Messages app to see if i could make changes there, but there were no options there either.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed, or better yet, if it CAN be fixed? It's kind of frustrating. And Google provided no help except threads like this that were started and never completed with an answer.

That sucks. I know that SMS and MMS can be tricky. May have something to do with carriers. I have had to mess around with using different ones in different situations. I was using Chomp for a while with good results, but had to swap to Textra which has been doing well for me for my last 2 phones. Using Verizon on Verizon.

I am not having that issue. When someone send me a long message, it actually turn into an mms and I'm seeing it as 1 long message.
I also don't like the Verizon app, I want to use the native app. My native app works but the latest update wakes the screen on incoming SMS every single time no way to shut off. Very annoying, stuck using Verizon app for now as well. Have posted a thread here about that https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/screen-wake-incoming-sms-verizon-s8-t3594258 Also have opened a ticket with Samsung about that issued and Verizon community. Will see if it gets fixed with OTA patch. I have seen this before on beta builds on S7 edge, very annoying.
Also noticed they locked out the engineering menu, I mean come on Verizon. While I like the network way way way better than Sprint, this thing is locked and locked again.
I have been using the Android Messages app for a couple months now on my HTC M9. Just got this S8+ about a week ago. Hate the Samsung messages app. No individualized options for each person. The Verizon SMS app... well, it's the Verizon app, enough said. I have really liked the Android Messages on this now. No problems with sending short or long texts, or sending media. Seems to work the best out of all i've seen with the most options or features.

I don't think Verizon supports RCS messaging, last i read they had no plans to implement it. Also, i don't remember Samsung having support for it either. I could be wrong, but that's what i remember.

Those options only work in the Verizon messaging app, it may only be limited to others also using the Verizon messaging app to message you, maybe someone can test it to verify. But I can indeed verify typing notifications and read receipts do working in the Verizon messaging app.

AT&T does as well, but it's limited to within the carrier. Same for T-Mobile. And Verizon has it in their Messages+ app (which sucks).

Activate RCS messaging on any phone!

Hi guys. I know this is not Note 10 specific but it's great news nonetheless. Someone figured out how to activate RCS messaging and it works. ?
For those who don't know what RCS is, it's basically like iMessage for Android.
Here is the 9 to 5 Google article: https://9to5google.com/2019/10/26/enable-rcs-android-messages/
And here is a tutorial from Jeff Springer over on YouTube:
Spread the news guys it should work on any Android phone carrier. I'm currently in Canada and got it to work.
Enjoy?
confirm, working :good: :good:
Got it working on my Verizon note 10+
I got it working too...I think. Don't know anyone else with it haha
configured as well on my ATT Note 10+; however, replies to group messaging arrived as separate (or new) text messages and not part of the group. Fix for me was to disable the option to "Use WiFi data for messaging when available". Anyone else experience similar behavior? Thanks.

Works in Malaysia too. But no one here is using it.
Couldn't activate it here in Iran
Stuck in verifying my phone!
Edit: nope it's working and connected!
But no one is using it
I was able to do it on my Samsung-direct unlocked SD Note 10+ on T-Mobile, but when I restarted my phone later it went away and isn't coming back even when replicating the steps. It now says your carrier doesn't support this feature when I go into the Message app settings. I have the Carrier Settings app downloaded from Play Store as well.
Got it connected here. Followed the directions but had some issues with the phone number verification stage. Disabling wifi and trying again helped.
I am not sure if it is actually working though. Every message I send is either a sms or mms, even if I send it back to myself. At least one of my friends it should be going through as a chat message.

You can't send to yourself. Just ask your friend to enable it.
why is all this hype about the RCS? we already have tons of instant messaging apps (most importantly WhatsApp) that surpass the RCS in many ways.
From Romania and got it to work ! N976B
Weird.. I'm on T-Mobile and it's been working for me up to this point.. Now things are being sent as SMS all of a sudden. Still shows as connected though.. Weird..
Never mind.. My buddy I was messaging must be having issues. He's on Sprint but has been able to use RCS without any hacks and using the default Samsung Messaging app .. Weird.
so you never had it before? I had this since the start of the year. My son's Note 9, my wife's and daughter's S10 and my N10+ has this without jumping through those hoops. Just download google messages, it gives an option for RCS and that's it.
All our phones are unlocked Snapdragons so I'm not sure if that matters but you all should just download the google messages app first before doing all that crap for RCS.
I tried it and it worked on my Note 10+ but for some reason my son using his iphone 11 Pro Max couldn't send me any pictures through text and wasn't receiving any i sent.. I switched back to the stock Samsung message app and we could both send and receive txt and pictures?? I'm guessing AT&T has setup as I can send a txt to my buddy using my Note 10+ and I believe he has Galaxy s10 and using the stock messaging app I can see when its delivered, read, and when he types..
Working for me. But I got nobody use it with so far

Thanks, even if a would rather have RCS with the native app.
