OS Update - Fairphone

Just wanted to let y'all know, that the new Software Update v1.3 has been released (and wanted to keep the 'technical details' thread clean..)! Here is the mail you should have received.
Changelog:
The latest Fairphone OS version is 1.3, named Chestnut (released in May 2014).
We're delivering a larger collection of bug fixes - including initial software development work of version 1.2 Release Candidate - to bring these updates in this combined version 1.3.
This software update version 1.3 should address the following:
Camera app fixes and optimizations.
Phone crashes and reboots. This includes issues with the volume button/key, widgets and mood background on the lockscreen, and the People app.
Adding more European languages to the operating system language (eg, Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian).
Proximity sensor timing improved (i.e., to minimize response time of screen when moving the phone away from your ear).
Maintenance to prevent some internal storage notifications.
Messaging app fixes (e.g., crashing in Dutch fixed).
Optimized settings for some Bluetooth profiles (e.g., HID).
Further fixes on National Roaming notification.
Removed notification from missing SIM card.
Some Dutch and German translations corrected.
Fixed number parsing (no default to Chinese numbers).
Improved audio settings.
Optimized default volume settings for headset and speaker.
Removed (most) Video Calling option on Phone and People app.
*Regarding questions on internal storage partitioning, we are finalizing proper storage partitioning to prevent
separating app from data storage (to unify this storage). We are currently working on fixing last remaining issues and
getting the updating mechanism ready for users. We will add a Support Q&A to our website once we have more information to share.

Follow these steps if the update does not appear on your phone (seems like it will still take a while to appear - these steps do not work for me either).

A short question for my part: as it is mentioned in the mail (see first link) one will have to re-install the App-Store.
Does one lose any other of the installed stuff? What about the backupping? Is the pre-installed app working fine or can someone recommend anything else based on her/his experience?

I just upgraded, and although I had to try pushing the Upgrade button a few times before it would actually work, everything right now seems to be working as is and nothing else seems to have become lost. I hadn't backed up anything, mainly because I hadn't thought of it - it would, in fact, have been wise. I do indeed no longer get the empty sim notification for sim slot 2, which is nice. Tweaks such as GravityBox and Xprivacy still seem to work just fine.

Hey everybody,
I have a small problem. After reinstalling the Google apps by widget I removed Thema not used apps and tools. G+, bookmark syncing....
Now Threema using GCM doesn't work anymore.
Is it possible to reset the widget to install the apps really easy?
Otherwise dies someone has the zip to install it manually?

Is this what you are looking for? https://www.dropbox.com/s/shb7j77hvf3uto4/googleapps.zip It's the flashable Google Apps I extracted from the original widget.

Two issues that I did run into after a manual install from 1.2 rc1:
After reinstalling google apps, I needed to clear the data for Google Play Store before installing apps via the play store webpages on an other device (e.g. desktop PC) would work.
My device is currently not listed in android device manager (for tracking / remote wipe / etc), but is was showing up before the update. I'm hoping this is just a matter of waiting a little bit. (ADM is still listed as device admin, toggling this off and on again hasn't appeared to help). Edit: This problem was also reported and solved for the previous update here.

Yeah almost. Did you do these in the last days or before?
Maybe they changed it and I would like to use the newest .zip as there are problems sometime, when installing older versions above new ones.

This was done on Stock Android (AOSP) 1.0, as described here. So even though I think the result would be the same, you could just repeat this procedure on your Fairphone OS 1.3 in order to create a flashable zip-file.
I've been using AOSP since day one, and never had any of the described glitches or crashes, so I won't start using it now
But in a week or two, I'll start nagging Fairphone again about AOSP updates, since it would be great to get at least the camera tint fixed.
Hope this helps!

Yeah I would like to do this, but my widget just shows me right now, that I installed them already.
Has someone else an idea how to reset the widget?
I tried to delete the data of the widget and got to fairphone OS app site, bit deleting data there only deleted my home screen....

Did anyone updated his fairphone who changed the size of the data partition? And should I deactivate the xposed framework before updating?

yes, no problem with the partitions

I did this now and got a bigger .zip than you have/had.
Here are the Fairphone Google Apps 16.05.2014
I tried it with your old ones, but in the new one, there are some more components.
You can do the update without diasbling the XPosed Framework, it will be deactivated automatic.

You have to click it for 4-5 times, to get it actually started.
It was the same with me.
Alternative, if it's not working you can install it manually:

Yeah, the only new files are regarding the updated keyboard:
Code:
/system/app/GoogleKeyboard.apk
/system/lib/libjni_latinimegoogle.so
All other data of the two zip-files is identical. Time for me to start *****ing and whining about the lack of AOSP updates!

I have extended my partition before the update. As it comes with a simple zip file, you will not have changes to the current partition configuration.
As per Xposed, you will have to reinstall it afterwards anyway. No need to disable it.
The only recommendation would be to make a valid clockworkmod backup before the installation. The default fairphone recovery does not handle repartitioned phones well in my experience.
You will even be able to use the backup to restore only the applications you need with the tool Nandroid Manager * ROOT.

Problems after updating: Keyboard completely gone?
Hi everybody,
haven't been around for some time, quite busy ATM.
I updated to 1.3 Chestnut, and had the AOSP keyboard problem (crashes). Then, I tried to be smart and shot meself in the foot: I used titanium backup to restore the keyboard. As the app reported that the installation did not, erm, install, I tried to remove the keyboard app. Which also apparently did not work. I thought to postpone everything and turned the phone off.
Now, the keyboard seems completely gone, and I can't unlock my phone. Instead, it shows the red microphone button and tells me to "Speak now".
To sum up:
* I can't unlock the phone because the keyboard is gone, and fallback seems to be voice recognition.
* I can't re-install GApps using the widget, because I can't unlock the phone.
* I can't access phone storage or sd card because the phone is locked, and USB is set to media mode (or whatever it's called).
* I can't access the SD card because I'm using Windows on my desktop, and Win7 does want to format my sd card because it has a non-compatible file system.
Any ideas?
Oh, btw: de-crypting the phone works. I've got a keyboard there.

Do you have access to another SD card?
So install the update manually again and the keyboard should be back again.
The data were still there, when I did it.
Sent from my FP1 using XDA Free mobile app

I've applied the update manually by rebooting into recovery mode (hold power + volume up) and then selecting the option to send an update via ADB. I'm not sure whether you need to have USB debugging enabled first for this to work from recovery, but it may be worth a try if the SD card approach doesn't work out.

Since @benxda was asking for some feedback on the new update, here is mine.
I had the 1.2RC installed before. So I was not able to get the OTA update. Anyway, I decided to repartition my phone first, then install the update (I did not repartition it before... so space was getting low). Everything worked fine and now I have chestnut on my phone with a bigger data partition. yay!
Anyhow, I am still hoping for a bluetooth fix. Unfortunatly "Optimized settings for some Bluetooth profiles (e.g., HID)" did not solve my bluetooth pairing problem with my car. But I did not really expect it since @joemier stated somewhere that the bluetooth stack problem will not be fixed with 1.3. Anyhow I still tried.
Bluetooth is my main issue, and from where I am standing, I do not really get why it is not fixed, yet. I saw it fixed in various jelly bean custom roms. So why not ask the people who already did it how they did it. One example for this might be found here. If I remember correctly he fixed that in alpha6 or something. But on the other hand I am no android developer and from my perspective this might look easier than it is.
So I guess my questions for Fairphone would be:
Are you still working on the bluetooth issue? what are the plans on fixing it (or rather how do you want to tackle it)?
what priority does it have?
On a closing note, I feel the same way as @MarcoToo in his post. That people either moved on, or just don't care anymore. Sounds a bit cynical maybe, but I think that's how it is at the moment. And I must admit that I thought about buying a new phone with similar specs and more custom rom action going on. like the galaxy s4 mini. But it is really hard for me to get rid of a phone which I used for only a few month. But one of the major reasons why I bought this phone does not apply anymore (hackability).

[ROM]CM7 Kangs - Latest 2012\08\27

Sorry for the long delay. I inally have everything sorted out and the temperatures finally cooled down enough that the random brownouts have stopped. Lots of new things in this release. I suck with changelogs and the way I built this rom makes it hard to know everything that's changed. I rescripted Maniac103's Defy repo for the Bravo and am now using that as my base. Before I was updating a cloned Quarx CM7 repo with cherrypicks from Maniac's and FuZZ's Defy repos..
Some new features include
Bootmenu Pin Protection
Wifi Calling (untested)
SmartassV2 replaces Smartass, conigure it with smartass's settings in the bootmenu
Voice Commands
More Tablet Mode Features, you'll see them
New FM Radio
Nuance Bluetooth Voice Dialer

Wiping Cache and Wiping Dalvic Cache isn't necessary since I added those commands to the installer script. Adding those commands makes updating simpler, less prone to errors, and less presses of the volume and power buttons.
I need to look in touch recovery and touch bootmenu.

NOTES & BUGS:
I've sometimes had an issue where my pc won't connect to adb since the phone won't give permission. It usually only occurs after the first 2 or 3 boots then magically fixes itself. I've also had usb data tethering fix the adb problem. If you don't use adb on your pc, then this isn't even an issue for you.

CM7 Mods
Just a couple of mods I use with CM7.
Bravia Engine - Sony Image PP engine for sharper images.
Beats Audio - Sony Audio engine with improved bass and treble -- can harm inferior and crappy headphones and speakers (Trust Me).
All the zips are flashable in recovery.
Credits for the zips go to their original makers, which I can't remember since I downloaded them a few months ago and can't find the threads I found them in (somewhere here at xda).
Skeevy your rom is lightning fast! Thanks so much! Thanks for beats audio and bravia zips too!

I use ES file explorer, but basically I use any file manager with root access.
I've been using this one for a few days and haven't found any bugs. Pretty sure this is the most stable rom I've had on my phone.
Another thinh I've noticed is I can't tell if the bravia engine is working. I know it is supposed to produce clearer images, but I don't notice a difference. Oh well, this phone doesn't have a fantastical camera anyway.

I was just thinking of swapping it out with Apoonet's Miui File Explorer -- Free, Root, Advanced Features, Auto-Updates itself, No Crappy Permissions.
Glad to here it works great for more than myself.
The only way I could tell if Bravia was working was I took picture of my dog with the Bravo's camera and dl'd a HD image, started at each of them for minutes on end each, flashed bravia, stared again. They did improve, but not by much and I doubt anyone would notice the difference unless you did the stare test like I did.
thanks skeevy

I have no preference in explorer so whatever you put that is not stock I'll gladly use. Although I can't speak for everyone else.
I flashed the latest cm10 just to try it out, but it's still early and I noticed quite a few bugs. I'll probably be sticking with your kang(s) for a while.

Help please
Hi. Im a newbie at all this installing rom stuff. I am trying to install this rom, but omited to download and place the gingerbread gaaps on my sd card before the process...
so now I am stuck in this step
-Find and Select Gingerbread Gapps
-Flash It
-Reboot
Should I turn it off and put the gaaps in there, and then restart it? Please help!
Just as a fallow up the way I solved this issue thanks to other forum members help was: turn off my phone, and install the gaaps to the sd card, to unzip them later.
PC Crashed
Not gonna be a CM7 this week, or anything else for that matter. My pc went down Thursday and I finally had the time today to get it back up and running. Still have to finish configuring everything how I like it, install all the build requirements, sync all my repos again (takes a while), and much more. My biggest problem is I might lose a lot of my Android stuff on my old encrypted home folder. Need to look into accessing an encrypted home folder when you don't have the password anymore. Like a dumbass, I stored it in my Documents folder....instead of anywhere on one of my other 3 hard drives.
I'll look into the baseband issue. I think I just need to add in the missing folders and files under /etc/motorola that the new baseband switcher uses.
Maniac had quite a few CM7 updates last week, and that's always good.
Hopefully I'll be back in business by Monday.
//If you're wanting to try out Linux, I gotta recommend Mint 13 Xfce to ya. The install is painless and the system's ran good and stable so far. One of my best Linux experiences.

Woop, recovered all my Android files. I'm so glad I didn't lose all of it. I'd of had suicide level depression if I didn't. Especially since I had to look long and hard for the right tools to do the job (that's what she said). Time to format my old system partiton with a 20 gb recovery partition with tons of recovery tools and another partition for android development.
Then its time to set up my build environment. That'll take a while. The sdk alone is about a 1 hr ordeal, the CM7 sync is anther 1.5-2 hrs, CM9 is about a 45 min sync, the app install for everything is another 30 mins. And all those times are in a perfect world with maxed out dl speeds.
About done with all my sysyem themeing. I prefer a black desktop since its much easier staring at a dark 42" screen over a bright one for hours on end, and its eaisre to read. See the screenshot to see what I'm talking about
Also gonna look into adding aroma to the CM7 Kangs. I thought about making a lightweight rom with update zips for full CM, but Aroma will let us choose what system apps you don't want, allow easy modding and tweaks. If done right, it'll give the Kangs full White Rabbit customization without me having to port WR.

THanks... will do... just to let you know this second phone has always given me some sort of problem.... I had trouble when I rooted it because, the enable non market app would never stay that way. When I first enabled non market apps with superoneclick I could install no market apps. But after some time when by when I tried to install a non market app it kept telling me that I couldn't so I had to enable non market apps again. I thought that was weird, because device number 1 never gave me those issues. Anyway, on device number 1 everything from kangs cm7 worked...
As a followup to this problem, I tried connecting to Google on another wifi hotspot and it worked... I guess the settings of my IP are somehow incorrect at home, does anyone have any idea on what the correct settings should be... I can connect to Google at home once Im signed in from another IP.
Just wondering if this could be due to a CM7 issue because It never happened when my phone was in stock rom.
Also... I cannot purchase apps when connected to the wifi at home... I have to go somewhere else...

Open your terminal on your phone and type:
su
logcat > /sdcard/log.txt
It will continue to write to the file as long as terminal is open and when you experience the bug, it will catch it. When you reboot you should have a nice text file for uploading to the thread
*** If you are getting errors playing Media Files or are seeing multiples of the same image or Grey items. This is "Ghosting", for some reason(what/why this is is unknown to me). The Fix:
Go to Settings/Apps/All/scroll down to Media Storage, and Clear Data. Reboot, and Scan your media again. Depending how much you have will determine how long it takes. This will happen again when rebooting, maybe not the first or second reboot, but it'll happen again

Great bit of info put together by unit_vector
unit_vector said:
I have consolidated some information regarding frequent issues with the most recent nightly releases. Hopefully someone finds this useful, since I've dealt with most of them myself and I see someone ask about these things daily. If any of the info here is wrong or misleading please don't hesitate to correct me (just kidding, I know you won't)
GPS
-When the option was added to use an external GPS it broke the default source to be undefined. Go to "System Settings-> Location Services-> GPS Source" and make sure "Use Internal GPS" is selected.
-Some other update changed something with the permissions of the location services settings. Uncheck and recheck all the options on the above screen to force it to ask for the proper permissions again.
4G LTE/Wireless Data
-Currently you need to reboot after installing for the first time or upgrading to a new nightly in order to get any data signal.
-Make sure you are aware of the difference between the service providers' terminology and the "real"/CM terminology (AT&T 4G is actually HSPA+, AT&T 4G LTE is actually 4G).
-Go to "System Settings->More->Mobile networks" and make sure LTE is selected under Network Mode.
-Go to "System Settings->More->Mobile networks->Access Point Names" and verify versus known good LTE APN settings.
-You may have lost your IMEI. "Check System Settings->About Phone->Status". If your IMEI shows 0 you may have to follow the instructions in the IMEI recovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1801997. After restoring your IMEI you may still need to do additional steps to restore LTE. To avoid this headache back up your IMEI before you lose it using the above thread. Make sure you try just rebooting first to see if that fixes the missing IMEI.
Wi-Fi
-Some people report problems with Wi-Fi signal or connection. Try going to "System Settings->Wi-Fi->Menu/Advanced" and un-check "Avoid Poor Connections".
Volume/Sound Problems
-Audio drivers are currently a work-in-progress. Updates are still coming all the time.
-If you have no sound try turning the volume all the way down then up again for alarms, calls, notification, etc.
-Try re-selecting your ring tones in the app or clearing cache and/or data for that app.
-Call volume is known to be a bit loud now.
-There seems to be an issue with Google Now voice recognition mic volume. Try talking in to the noise cancellation mic (top).
-If your phone is not speaking Google Now results or street names in Navigation properly make sure you are using English (US) in the language settings (other languages/nationalities are currently not supported).
Camera/Gallery
-Swipe to gallery feature was "broken" by the addition of pinch to zoom. To get it to work swipe outside of image and buttons (in the grey area). **Reverted and reportedly fixed in 9/10**
-There is currently no option to store to external SD (yet).
-The built in gallery does not sync to Picasa. This is a known bug.
Battery Life
-Battery calibration is wiped after first installing or upgrading. Wait a full cycle before trusting percent reported.
-Install BBS http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1179809 to track alarms and wake locks.
-Battery use after clearing caches after upgrading is high. Wait til it is finished rebuilding before gauging drain.
-Other kernels give more control over battery and performance. You can try those but don't report any other bugs here if you do.
Screen Flicker
-Has improved recently but can be seen occasionally, particularly with 3rd party keyboards or graphics intensive apps.
-Going to "System Settings->Developer Options" and choosing "Disable HW Overlays" fixes the flicker at the expense of performance.
USB Storage
-There is no UMS (Generic USB Mass Storage) mode by default on our phones. You may need to install MTP drivers or a different OS that supports it. There are apps http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1711009 that allow UMS access but there are drawbacks.
-If you followed any of the procedures in the IMEI thread and did not properly revert to MTP mode you may need to do so before being able to access your storage via USB.
Home button wake
-Going to System "Settings->Performance->Processor" and increasing the minimum CPU frequency from 384 to 486 is reported to fix it.
64GB+ SD Cards
-CM will not directly support the exFAT format due to licensing restrictions
-You can format as FAT32 (with the restriction of not being able to have files over 4GB each)
-Not sure if it is supported at the moment, but in the future you should be able to format as ext (fixes the 4GB file problem, but makes the card unreadable by Windows without special tools)
Anything gapps related involving non-recommended gapps
-For example problems with text messaging when using inverted gapps
-Use recommended gapps.
Anything system related involving non-CM kernels
-Use the default kernel.
Installing/Upgrading
When updating from Nightlies MAKE SURE you are downloading the CM10 zip file. The CM9 weekly files show up in the same list.
The M flagged zip files are the same as every other nightly, except care is taken in the days/week before releasing the M edition to not introduce any new features into Nightlies that might break the system. This means that if you flash only the M files you are less likely to run into "show-stopping" bugs. After the M edition is released developers will continue adding new features to the Nightlies that may or may not result in instability.
The recommended nightly upgrade procedure should be:
-Backup/Nandroid
-Format /system (under Mounts and Storage)
-Wipe cache
-Wipe Dalvik cache (under Advanced)
-Install Nightly ROM zip
-Install gapps zip
-Reboot System
You may be able to get away with only:
-Backup/Nandroid (not technically required, but you're a crazy-pants if you don't)
-Wipe cache (It looks like dalvik-cache is included in the /cache partition on our phones - it isn't for all phones - so a /cache wipe should cover Dalvik as well. I'm no expert though, so don't take my word for it if you have problems NOT wiping Dalvik cache specifically)
-Install Nightly Rom zip
-Reboot System
Apps Force Closing/Other Strange Behaviour That Other People Are Not Reporting
-Try running Fix Permissions from recovery
-After backing up, try a Factory Reset combined with the above flashing steps to see if the error occurs on a clean system (Factory Reset does not wipe/format your SD card(s), only erases all apps and app/system data
Anything system related involving non-CM kernels
-Use the default kernel.

First of all, thank you for trying to do this! I don't think that the herd will care and they will continue to clog up the development thread, but you're trying and that definitely counts for something.
Do we have a current bug list that isn't just a bunch of "me too!" and random one off bugs? I'm talking about things that are consistent across all users who have properly installed? I think a well maintained list would be beneficial to the CM team (read Steve) rather than having them cull through the steaming 100 page pile of pure fetid "awesome".
I've read that entire thread up to this point but I've been trying not to engage too much due to the state of things over there. But here is my small and likely incomplete list of verified bugs at this point. Please help add to it with valid citations. I don't want to put things onto the list until they are verified by at least two users who can state the issue clearly in a post. I will try to keep this updated but please feel free to rip it away from me and keep it in tip-top shape.
Tethering does not work in either WPA or WPA2 modes (but it does work in insecure mode) [1, 2, 3, 4]
A2DP isn't working [1]
Camera focusing bug (that is known and is going to be fixed upon next build) [1]
LTE in Canada seems to be a common complaint. [1,2]
MTP not working for Mac users. [1,2]
Picasa sync doesn't work [1]
So since this is the Q&A thread, I have two questions:
What bugs have I missed? (please provide a single post link as a citation)
Whats the best way to find out when/where to find the latest gapps builds? I always find them from fellow forum users posts but it seems to me that they have to originate somewhere and I'm less than clear on that process.

Can you help quantify this? Its been working just fine for me. Can you run GPS Test to determine how many satellites are in view, in use, and your accuracy? Beyond that, can you elaborate what symptoms you are referring to by it "worse"?

Well for some reason. It takes a while to get a signal after a reboot. I know on stock or aokp it wasn't like that. I'd get a lock in 3-5 seconds. Any ways. once it gets a lock. Like 10 seconds later it loses signal and it comes back almost instantly.
Also, Even when I use the navigation app it freezes for a couple of seconds and the it goes back to normal. It's weird. I tried using gps fix but it doesn't fix the problem.
Edit: just ran gps test. I have 17 satellites in view and only using 9-10.

Well I don't want to sound too callous here, but 10 seconds is plenty fine for a lock. I guess I'm more patient than some folks, but at this point, it seems like a very minor issue. I do wonder if it was even "locking" in AOKP or if they just institute a lower threshold of accuracy to be designated as "locked". (Pure conjecture on my part, I could be wrong).
Using 9-10 is absolutely normal. Seeing as how you have a 12 channel receiver in your device, using 10 is great. You should be accurate to within 10 feet within a few seconds of starting up. Also, taking longer after a reboot is normal. There are a lot of different start-up "states" for GPS based on how long since the last lock and things like the phone being power cycled.
I've noticed on the 7/20 build, the play store link in the top right corner of the app drawer doesn't work. You have to actually select the shortcut from the app list.
EDIT: Seems to be an intermittent thing.
Are there plans to return universal search?
Has anyone found a way to transfer data (contacts, call log, mms log, data usage, etc.) from stock rom to CM10? Whenever I try (through TB) to restore data, i get an error saying "android.process.acore has stopped working". I did a search and made sure the "restore system data" option was selected in preferences both when i backed up and when I restored. I've also tried AppExtractor but that has done nothing. I've tried turning off auto sync and removing google account prior to restoring, all to no avail.

Well that's why I compared it to aokp and stock. Even after a cold boot the gps still came on and locked within 4 seconds. On cm10 its much longer. And like I said alot of times it can't keep a lock. It loses the signal and gets it back 10-15s later. It's nothing serious. Just annoying since I use it very often (taxi driver)

1) auto focus and camera itself works perfect for me, after applying the flashable fix though, however it force closes if you try to change the picture size now and then
2) phone app force closed a couple of times, once on MTP connection and once with speaker on.
3) tethering work for me.
4) lockscreen custom background dosent work if you have a different homescreen wallpaper
5) soft key lights turn off if you try to change the screen brightness(changing the brightness to auto will fix it though)
6) volume rocker work perfect

Also restored to stock rom with a nandroid on all CM10 builds

Good overall with a few issues
Just flashed my ATT S3 with the preview build, awesome overall, so much faster than TouchWiz.
Having a few issues tho:
1) camera is borked (app was erroring then disappeared?)
2) gmail doesnt sync properly (worked fine with stock rom)
3) exchange activesync doesnt work (worked fine with stock rom)
4) notifications for gmail dont work (worked fine with stock rom)
5) menus show Galaxy S2, not S3 (minor)

Polaroid All in One - Root, Un-Root, Play Store, Should work on other devices

Polaroid All in One is a C++ application that will easily and quickly Root, Un-Root, and Install / Remove Google Applications and Google Services Framework. This software is designed for the PTAB8000, and PMID800. However, should work for similar tablets running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean (Google Apps only supported on Android 4.0.x). If you use this software with any other device please post your results in the this forum.
Requirements
Microsoft Windows (Tested on Windows 7 and Windows XP)
ADB Drivers Installed
Android Device Running 4.0 or 4.1 (Google Apps only supported on 4.0.x)
Recommended Method
Use version 1.6b to root your device, then use version 2.1b to install Google Framework.
UPDATE 8/11/14 -- Why doesn't this work with my device?
I just wanted to clear a few things up. I have had a few inquires about PAIO (Polaroid AIO) not installing Google Framework on their devices. The framework included in the latest releases is only compatible with Android 4.0.x. While PAIO v1.6b should be able to root 4.0, and 4.1 devices, the application will refuse to load the framework on a non-compatible version of android. If your tablet is not running a variant of Ice Cream Sandwich, it's simply not going to work. If we continue development we can support newer versions of Android. But, for now you would have to install the framework manually. If you would like to pursue a manual install I recommend you check out this page: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps Make sure you know what you are doing, and install the version that is correct for your device. I'm waiting to get more feedback on the poll before I decide to continue this project.
Have a great week everyone,
Wayne
UPDATE 8/10/14 -- [Quick Survey] Should we continue development?
As I am sure some of you have noticed by now, this project has not been under active development for over a year now. We had an event that resulted in a loss of the source code for the project. As a result, the project was put on the back burner as it worked "OK"-ish. Between the 1.6b and 2.1b releases it did meet the requirements at the time, which was to root and install a full play store on the PTAB8000, and PMID800 devices. While these devices may not be as popular at this time (they had a fairly high failure rate). There are other Generic devices that people have used this program on, with mixed results. I did have a PTAB8000 with a cracked screen donated a while back. As long as we have people to test/debug, and support the project however they can. I am willing to start the project from scratch (again).
All I ask is for a few minutes of your time to take a quick survey to help me understand the interest we have in this project.
Click here to take the survey.
UPDATE 1/21/13 -- Polaroid AIO v2.1b [Beta Release]
After a nightmare's worth of coding Polaroid All in One v2.1b is finally here. This update aims to provide the best possible user experience. While utilizing the latest patches discovered by the team. I would like to give a special shout out to Android Pizza for taking the initiative to get a fully stocked Play Store on the PTAB8000. Special thanks to the guys over at FreakTab for providing the permission files needed for the patch on the PTAB8000. Last but not least I would like to thank all of you for testing every release. You're feedback is critical to this product. Every post has helped with PAIO's development process.
PTAB8000 users please make sure you are running a stock firmware. If you have tried earlier versions of PAIO, or have used any other files to patch your tablet, you must re-flash your tablet. Please see the section below on flashing your PTAB8000.

UPDATE 12/30/12 -- Polaroid AIO v1.6b [Old, Stable Release]
I am leaving this version posted as it seems to have been the most stable version. This will work with Android Pizza's tutorial on the PTAB8000, and works perfectly on the PMID800. It is recommended this version be used to root, and 2.1b used to install the framework (if supported on your device).

I'm trying to give it a go but I cannot get Windows 8 to recognise the device when I plug it in. I managed to get the ADB drivers installed eventually as you need a work around for the "The third-party INF does not contain digital signature information" but that didnt help Windows 8 see the device. Then I installed the Google USB Drivers from the Android SDK Manager, but that hasn't helped.
I have everything checked correctly in the Settings --> Developer's section too....... Anyone else managed to get this device to work with Windows 8?

What device do you have? Did you follow these steps here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982718 Can you run an adb command to interface with the device? I do not currently have a Windows 8 install to debug on. Give me a couple hours and I'll setup a VM for some debuging... You may also want to try using compatibility mode. http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-8/run-a-program-in-compatibility-mode-in-windows-8/
OK. I ended up using a crappy Netbook running Win7 and your v1.3b can see the device perfectly. Unfortunately I don't have any Google apps, but I do have root. Not sure why framework and Google apps didn't work but I even tried resetting the tablet to stock to try again. I've tried all options numerous times, and no beans on this device I'm afraid.
Like I said. It rooted perfectly and I love how slick everything is. Seriously impressive work my friend. Hopefully you can take a look into the issues I'm having? Anyone else had this problem?

I do have one more PTAB8000 I can try this one once I'm given the tablet that is... (Doing this for my Lads girlfriend and sister)
Thanks TeOHD4 !!

Is the device that will not give you google apps a PTAB8000? No errors given?
Also have you tried 1.2? The Framework is a little buggy but will be helpful in debugging why this is not working with your device.
Thank you for the support. Glad you where able to at least get root, and we will work on getting google apps installed for you. Give 1.2 a go and let me know what happens.

Both are PTAB8000's. The one I have at the moment just worked with v1.2 on the 1st attempt when trying to add the framework and gApps.. I didn't try any other option since v1.3b rooted it first..
v1.3b didnt give any error messages... My observations between v1.2 and v1.3b is that they both show that they are doing the same thing, but v1.3b does it at such a speed that it's hard to imagine that the device had enough time to receive the files that were being pushed. On v1.2 is was a lot slower and more in tune with the fact that data is being pushed to the device.
Then on the reboot, you get the Android is updating logo before hitting the desktop for version 1.2, whereas I didn't get that with v1.3b....
I can't test any of the apps just yet as I need my Son's, Girlfriends gmail account details but so far so good.
Seriously GREAT work TeODH4

Ok thanks for your feedback. 1.2 should work for you However you will experience some bugs such as com.google.gapps randomly crashing which i tried to fix. in 1.3b. I will take a look at the 1.3 code and see if i can figure out what the issue is. Maybe add some better error checking.

Found the issue with 1.3. just a simple typo when trying to change directory to Resources/gapps. If you don't mind give 1.4b a shot,
Be sure to Remove Google Apps first, then install. It worked just fine with my simulation. But without having a tablet to debug on at the moment its hard to be sure...
Thanks,

PolaroidAIO stuck waiting for the devide to be ready
Hi,
I tried AIO 1.3-1.4 on a PTAB8000 and it it just waits forever for the tablet to be ready. The ADB drivers appear properly installed (I see an Android Phone/ADB interface in the device manager on XP SP2). Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Nick

YOU need to use CWM v6.0.4.4 ( v6.0.3.8 and up) to get it working correctly![RECOVERY] ClockworkMod v6.0.4.4
With older CWM Recovery versions you will get a bootloop, so update your Recovery too!
To swap memories (internal with external SD Cards) you need to go to /system/build.prop using any File Explorer with root privileges (recommended X-Plore) and change from 0 to 1 in the code below:
Before
Code:
# Change to 1 for swapping SD cards
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=0
After
Code:
# Change to 1 for swapping SD cards
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=1
Bugs reported (Build ALPHA 9): -
-
For installation, first, make sure you got CM10.2 ROM and the correct Gapps on your External SD Card. Both can be found in the links above.
After that, enter CWM and:
select "wipe data / factory reset"
go to "mounts & storage" and format /system. This is extremely important!
under the same menu, format /sdcard0 (be careful NOT to format /sdcard1 (external_sd) by mistake)
install CM10.2 (from the external sd)
install Gapps for JB+ (from the external sd)
reboot your phone
Please, note that every step of this tutorial is mandatory!
This is still not a pristine Installation! A pristine installation requires to whipe both SDCards and only copy the installation files to the external SDCard, so there is nothing else than the ROM and Gaaps.
Therefore also delete the Android folder on your SDCard left by the previous ROM as well as the Thumbnail folder in the DCIM folder! You can do this after flashing the ROM. Just delete them and reboot. Don´t worry, both will be rebuild by the new ROM.
Do NOT restore backup data of system apps!
In general this ROM will restore your apps automatically from the PlayStore and only download the ones that are compatible with this ROM, so restoring a backup isn´t needed and also not recommended.
If there is still a need to restore applications, make sure you only restore 3rd party apps and preferably apks only. No app data. SMS, contacts, calendar entries, pictures, videos should be safe to restore.
If you're installing this ROM after stock ROM (Android 2.3.6), CM9 (Android 4.0.4) or CM10 (Android 4.1.2), we highly recommend redownloading the apps rather than restoring them from a backup. They might not be fully compatible and might cause troubles. As a general suggestion, try to keep your ROM as clean as possible.

Ok, since noone started this till now, I will create this thread to keep the dev thereads clean. Discuss your bugs and issues here if you like.
Just I´m not going to maintain the whole thread. If anyone is willing to take over this thread and maintain it, I have no problem with that

Thanks, man! I would have done it earlier but since the thread in Development section refers to two ROMs (CM10.2 and Carbon) and since CM10.2 is actually still in preview stage (though really well done preview, I must admit) I thought it would be better to see where this is going first, and only after that, open a thread into General section. But if you did it, that's fine too.
About not maintaining this thread...I'm not sure that's a good thing. And once you opened it, there is no way someone else could take over it since..well, you opened it and no changes can be made on the OP (unless you're willing to share your password, which I suppose you're not).

Yes I know but the topic header can be changed any time so it fits the rom you will be diuscussing about. About taking over a thread I think this is no problem for the Moderators to change the owner. Have seen already some threads to be taken over by new Moderators. But if this shouldn´t be possible for some reason, there is another solution. I can keep my first post clean, so it can be maintained in the secound or third post
Last but not least I can ask to delete it, so a new one can be created.
Should we focus on 4.2 or 4.3? i hope one of the half best tester on 4.2 should try 4.3

I will test CM10.2 myself as I´m also interested how well it´s working. But about the difference between CM 10.2 and Carbon 4.3, isn´t the Carbon a themed CM10.2?
I also think it should be no problem to create our own working Gaaps we can use for this ROM.
Just got back from vacation as I told in the dev-section, and I only got one question: did you guys modify GApps in some way to make it work, or something in the ROM? I can just use the official GApps from goo.im which I already downloaded to use with my grouper, can't I?
Otherwise my PC will be an insane mess with all different kinds of GApps floating around

Yes, you should be able to use the official Gapps now, if you want to. The problem was not in the Gapps, was in the ROM.
And...welcome back! Got new ROM for you.
Ok, as for annoyances found so far:
1) Green color while taking a picture and switching between cameras. Focal camera has green artifacts everytime and freezes at first shot taken as already known issue with majority of 3rd party apps.
2) Small artifacts taking panorama shot.
3) Apollo FC at first run after pristine install. Already known for CM10.1.
4) Sometimes widgets (like contact 4x1) and shortcuts of Google apps disappear from the desktop. I just encountered that few times without going into depth. Will try to give repro rate.
5) Electron Beam animation while locking the device is buggy. I turn it off in display setting and feel much better.
That's all I remember by now. And why I say annoyances? Because all those things aren't so nagging as Gapps problem fixed yesterday.
Taking into account that it's only 1st release... Hell it's smooth and usable.
And one thing that I liked so much...
A new feature in camera in video recording.

Is there a way to save photo taken to external sd instead of internal? BTW, I think I found a bug : apps that put in a folder on desktop (by dragging an app to another) will randomly disappear after reboot.
I am using this rom + Seeder 7 Script and it's working really perfect! Many thanks @ all devs involved in this rom!

Unfortunately I faced that problem once or twice too... This happens because we have too low RAM.
Precisely, LMK kills background applications when the device is running out of RAM (multitasking). The only solution by now is having a custom kernel like Hurtsky and add DSPM and Apollo to the list of unkillable processes.

So I installed the jailbreak a few months back and have been waiting eagerly for a ROM and searching around... but from what I have read, the sch-i925 version note 10.1 doesn't have the same partitions as other 10.1's, so I haven't found a ROM for it.
What confuses me is that people seem to be returning back to stock... and in the first line of the instructions of this ROM I find:

So... what other ROM?? How did I miss that?
I'm super happy that I finally find a ROM for this tablet, but why now a few day's after the first post of this great news... why I'm the first posting here?? Nobody else jumping out of their seats in joy??
Also, I'm curious... does the CM include phone capabilities? I'm in Iceland and the Icelandic version of this tablet is basically just a very large phone, I'm hoping this ROM will get me there since now I cant even use the mobile networks at all because I have no Verizon SIM and even if I did - it would be ridiculously expensive
I'm looking forward to testing this out, will post my results

Do you mean it includes the phone app, but somehow is still limited to Verizon?? If its a new ROM, why is it still locked to a certain carrier??
So I was about to install CWM when I got into trouble connecting detecting the tablet with both heimdall and odin. Adb detects the device... perhaps a driver issue because of ADB... perhaps it doesnt matter
I booted into recovery only to find the TWRP that I haven't used yet, it came when I installed adams jailbreak. Im not familiar with TWRP but it looks pretty good. Do I need to install CWM or is TWRP good enough??
*edit: No problem connecting to ODIN on a different computer, so now I can install CWM if needed.
Could you let me know if I can use the TWRP recovery instead of the CWM?
Also, did you mean that this ROM is locked to Verizon mobile network?

I believe this rom is specifically for the verizon version of the n8020. There is a port for the international version.

I also believe that this rom is specifically for the verizon version of the n8020 (the sch-i925). I have the Verizon SCH-i925 Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which is a LTE version. So this rom should fit pretty well I dont believe I can use the n8020 ROM's because of some different partitions from what I have read.
Can I install this rom with TWRP recovery or is CWM a prerequisite?
I didn't quite understand your reply, even if the Rom is designed specifically for this tablet, that does not mean it is still locked to the network provider. Is it still locked?
Thanks again, cant wait to try it

cwm is just recommended for official cm builds but twrp should work. and no its not locked onto verizon it is just designed for it. moving it to another carrier would require slight modification

So the install went great - No problems with TWRP, ROM or Gapps... smooth sailing!
The only changes to the tablet prior to this install was following Adams guide on how to unlock the bootloader. I also had not installed any updates from Verizon.
The ROM I installed was the cm-10.2-20130904-NIGHTLY-i925.
I also didn't install CWM, the TWRP that i got from unlocking the bootloader worked just fine.
Here is the bug list:
The Bug List:
1. GPS is working just fine.
2. I haven't tried the BT voice search.
3. 5ghz WIFI not working - I also needed to reboot to get 2.4ghz working again
4. No graphical issues yet, I test played raging thunder racing game and no problems there at least.
Other Bugs:
Camera:
No camera app found. I installed Nexus camera from market but it gave an error: "Can't connect to the camera". Also, my flashlight app can not use the camera flash.
I noticed that in folder /root/sys/class/camera/ there is only two documents "front" and "rear" which are both empty 0.00B files. Was looking for the cause, perhaps this helps?
Mobile network *Edit: Not a problem anymore:
In order to search for networks, the APN needs to be configured first! I am using my normal phone Icelandic SIM now and can use 3G in here in Iceland, send texts and after downloading a dialer I can now make phone calls also
Besides that, the OS is working great... 4.3 is pretty cool Its a real bust that the camera isn't working, I hope that gets fixed since its the only downside of this upgrade.
I'll keep a watch on this forum, so let me know if I can send you any info about my install. I'll also keep an eye on the upgrades and report if my problems get solved
Thanks for this ROM

Mobile network *Edit: Not a problem anymore:

camera had worked up until a few days ago an opensource camera hal replaced the camera wrapper. I haven't made the change to build the oss camera yet as only the front cam works with it. I'm working on getting them both functional.

Great, cant wait to see whats to come!
Would I then perhaps be better set with a camera by taking an older rom, 1st of September for example?

Good question, I'm glad I downloaded all of them, I suspected they might only have space for 5 there! Just wait a second, I'll google this for you.
Sorry for the wait, it was only a minute though... but I found this for you:
http://goo.im/devs/cm/i925/nightly
I guess I didn't need to download all of them after all. By the way, September 2 worked better than September 1 so Im using that now.
Im going to check the 8th of sept ROM tonight... perhaps its all fixed there, will report
I've got the latest 9/9 nightly flashed on my i925 and don't see an option to add APN's nor make calls.
Can I just download any Dialer from the market and calling will work?
My intention is to test it with the AT&T $35 month prepaid plan, but I hear already that supposedly Medianet Internet doesn't work.
If that doesn't pan out, I'm going to be trying a Staight Talk AT&T sim.
*EDIT* I downloaded Dialer One and that seems to work
@Snarlster, how did you edit the APN for data?
TBH I think so far the features of stock are more rich

It should be found in Settings--> More--> Mobile networks--> Access Point Names

You need to create an APN in "Access Point Names". (press + sign at top right)
You should only needed to set the Name (You create name) + APN (supplied by provider), here in Iceland they provide this information on their webpage.. can be fine to add more settings but this is the minimum (at least here).
*remember to save, I missed it at least the first time but you got to press the 3 dots in top right and press save.
After that, search for networks, if error then restart and search for networks again.

Good luck with that, I just threw my work phone's SIM card in the tablet, dont use the phone that much so it was perfect, now I have a work tablet instead of a work phone... but I can receive and make phonecalls and texts, I'll just have to find that blootooth earpiece I have somewhere and that should be perfect

I prefer this look, the main thing is to get all that Verizon crap out and to finally have control over this thing

I don't seem to have the option to add APN's. I could do it on stock
