Does the Samsung LAN/USB Hub ET-UP900 work? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Accessories

Hi @ all
Does anyone knows, if the original Samsung LAN/USB Hub ET-UP900 will work with this tablet? Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to post a link.
I'd like to fit the tablet into my car, use the two usb-ports for sound-out and external hard-disk, use the micro-usb for charging the tablet while using the usb-ports at the same time. LAN port not needed.
Does this work?
Greetings from Switzerland
Patrick

I've been wondering that my self??
Anyone?

I have just checked on the Samsung German site and when you select our model of tablet it comes up and says not compatible. Although I personally would take that with a pinch of salt. Shame it was not a little cheaper then I would just buy it and try it lol.

Also looking at the specs closer it is for use on the Note Pro so there is absolutely no reason why it would not work.

Assuming that too, but too risky to buy the tablet and the hub if something won't work after all...
So I'm hoping that anyone is able to check it out.

So, guys, after a few tries with other devices like Multimedia Dock......cause i can't believe, that its not possible to use usb and charge at the same time, and ALL other devices definitely Don't work, I buy this at conrad electronic in munich, cause there I know, I can bring it back, and get money back, if it doesn't fit......and, I wonder very very much.....it works.....but I only tested usb and charge....and device check it as a usb connector....thats important.....I dont know why, but multimedia dock won't work, it doesn't be shown as a dock, no charging. ....but it works with note 3.....strange.....but now im looking for a way to connect it to LAN. If I connect it, nothing happens, no internet connection.....how it will work on pro? An app needed? Cause in settings are no options to configure a Lan Connection......I think, you will need ipv4 settings for.....or it is done very simple and there is a simple script in the firmware of pro devices? Anyone knows? Im searching the internet, but found nothing about......
Ah....and the reason for searching this device is: if you want to use a bluetooth keyboard, you'll have problema with bluetooth connection all the time....I figure out, pairing it new every time is better.....but at this device, wlan an bluetooth must be going over the same modem or hardware, cause if you use both, wlan and bluetooth for keyboard, you got massive trouble with internet connection and sometimes you cant connect to your access point.....really ****.....I try an usb keyboard , wireless from Microsoft with pad....and this works perfect. ...but then, you can't charge anymore.....with any hubs or something, no chance, and all older devices wont work.....damned.....does anyone have a solution for the bluetooth trouble? I try the bluetooth fix apps also, they help a but for bluetooth problems but not for the wlan disaster....whats the reason for ? The radio?......wil be happy for any answers.....

you running kit kat or?

After seen the spec and it probably wont work. ET-UP900 need USB 3.0 port and Note 2014 only have USB 2.0 port. Maybe some kind of USB 3 to USB 2 adapter might work.

The USB 3.0 Port is just for charging, for example with a wall plug...
sent from htc one...

I'm thinking it's more of an issue with drivers or kernel ....
That's why I'd love to hear from someone with KK installed

Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) should work!

Just got my brand new official Samsung USB lan/Hub. And..... it doesn't work. The usb part of it seems to wok ok, but it doesn't detect ethernet. The user manual wants me to go into the settings --> more networks-- Ethernet connections... BUT I have no such setting
planing on playing around for a little while longer, but sorry to say lads, it doesn't seem to work.
suggestions?

Seems that I atleast have hit a wall with regards to getting this to work. Anyone have any bright ideas? or dark ideas for that mater??
Anyone actually managed to get this to work?

Ok, guys.....i think, you mean the adapter for Note pro? I got it, and it works. .... first, i bought this, cause it was the only USB adapter, that charge and using usb at the same time with p600........... and then i try to get Ethernet work. ...... the thing is, you have to know some things about ip4 connections, this is a kind different to wifi connections. ...... but i can offer you good news, the adapter works. The thing is, the firmware of p600/605 isn't modified to say the apps, they can connect to Internet with ethernet. ..
With the Adapter, the connection works, if you look to your router, you will find your device in Lan network. ......
What you need, are two things. ..... first, the app "ethernet" from play store (need root), that gives your device the right ip address, subnet mask and the gateway. .... (you don't have to do anything, just start the app, and press "enable")...... and the second one ist xposed framework and the module "hack connectivity", this little tool will say all apps to listen also to Ethernet Routing, not only wifi....... for me, this ,works like a charm, if i come to office, i plug the adapter in, with a wireless keyboard usb plug, Lan connected and also a cable to charge my note 3........ than i just enable the ethernet app, and change keyboard to my own for external keys (external keyboard helper), and that's all, so i have Lan Internet (4 times faster than wifi), have connection to my pc, and a external keyboard and mouse. ..... that's perfect. ....
If I'm finished, i plug the adapter off, and disable ethernet app, it changes automatically to wifi. ........
For generally information : Android already have ethernet drivers enabled from source, also in Samsung firmware, eth0 is working, the thing is, the apps are just programmed to listen to Wifi only. ....... don't know why, cause it's just one simple parser line to get this working.....
OK, on a mobile, it's not so interesting to havea Lan connection, but on a tablet, this will really good and fast. ....
Try this and habe fun. ... but i don't understand, why Samsung have the pins of the 10.1 204 so stupid organized, that all docking stations and usb adapters don't work with charging and usb at same time. .... the note 3 Multimedia Dock will not be detected as a dock. ....... that's so stupid. ....... shame on Samsung. ... if this was my company, i will fire the engineers at the same day if they make such a ****..........

Thanks

I got this ET-UP900 adapter working with a SM-C115 by compiling a custom kernel. If you add the right drivers you can probably run use it with most devices.
During the build process of the kernel you run "make menuconfig". Here you select "Device Drivers" > "Network Device Support" > "USB Network Adapters". Include the "Multi-purpose USB Networking Framework" and "SMSC LAN95XX base USB 2.0 10/100 ethernet devices". If you add those as module you got to load them with "insmod mii.ko; insmod usbnet.ko; insmod smsc95xx.ko" in this order.
My current problem with this is that the device is not carging through the adapater. I guess there is another driver or option missing but I am still looking into this.

USB GPS Receiver capable?

Hey guys...
After reading the last wm6 vanilla thread, i can imagine how annoying i was w/ the wm6 black 2.0 release b*ing and whining about how i coudln't my wireless to work...
anyways, i'll try to cut the stupidity posts to a minimum but in the meantime maybe someone has tried using a usb gps receiver on their phone.
i'm trying to configure ports and stuff via usb, but not too sure what baud rate, which com port etc to set everything at for maximum usage... in fact i don't even know if the darn thing works with my phone either
about to reinstall googlemaps to see if the usb will work....
i know everyone is using bluetooth, but i had this garmin usb 18 laying around for my laptop and bought a usb --> mini usb adapter and thought i'd try it
if anyone has tried, please help me out... thanks

Not a stupid question, a stupid place to ask it. Try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=307
you can't connect a USB GPS to the phone.
the USB GPSs require a server side USB port, the phone is only a client USB port. Hence, you can't connect peripherals to it such as GPSs, printers etc...
Bluetooth GPS units work very well with the Hermes though!?

USB OTG host mode (ANY USB keyboard support!) TUT

USE ANY USB KEYBOARD WITH YOUR USB OTG SUPPORTED ANDROID DEVICE!!!!
I've been experimenting with Wifi cards and the samsung galaxy sII
and realized people where having the same problem as i was having with plugging in usb keyboards.
turns out it all has to do with a vendors permission issue. if your device is not in the list, it will seen as "unknown".
As it turns out you can simply add your device and it'll work. mind you it was to be a simple input device and will have the power constraints of 100mW. But if u can compile a driver and splice in dc power.... skies the limit!
steps:
1. Android must be rooted (not going over that) and must support USB OTG (on-the-go)
2. You can either buy a USB OTG micro to female adapter on ebay for like 4 bucks. i decided to make one myself since i have lots of spare parts.
Heads up: a simple micro usb to female usb connector IS NOT THE SAME AS A USB OTG CABLE, they may look the same but the OTG cable has Pin 4 grounded to pin 5 on the micro usb side. This is how the device distinguishes aach type of cable. WARNING: IF MAKING THIS YOURSELF DO NOT CROSS BLACK AND RED, this WILL fry your PHONE.if you don't know you rway around a soldering iron, just buy one
3. Check what manufacturer your device is on this chart, if it's not there, check on the internet or plug the usb device into a linux box and run "lsusb" in the command promt and look for your device, the number will look like this:
Bus ### Device ###:ID <THIS ONE!>:<more numbers> " Company"
here's the chart: (taken from here :http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html)
Code:
Company USB Vendor ID
Acer 0502
ASUS 0b05
Dell 413c
Foxconn 0489
Garmin-Asus 091E
Google 18d1
HTC 0bb4
Huawei 12d1
K-Touch 24e3
KT Tech 2116
Kyocera 0482
Lenevo 17EF
LG 1004
Motorola 22b8
NEC 0409
Nook 2080
Nvidia 0955
OTGV 2257
Pantech 10A9
Philips 0471
PMC-Sierra 04da
Qualcomm 05c6
SK Telesys 1f53
Samsung 04e8
Sharp 04dd
Sony Ericsson 0fce
Toshiba 0930
ZTE 19D2
eg my keyboard is lenovo , so code is 17EF, you get it
4. log in as root, mount system as read-writeable, Create this file: /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
if its already there, then just append the command you want after.
if you dont have root explorer or otherwise installed here is how to in bash:
Code:
su
su
mount -o remount,rw system /system
mkdir -p /etc/udev/rules.d/
cd /etc/udev/rules.d/
now in the "51-android.rules" file add this line (or more for more device support):
SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", SYSFS{idVendor}=="<VENDOR CODE>", MODE "0666", NAME=="<VENDOR>"
my example with my lenovo keyboard:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", SYSFS{idVendor}=="17EF", MODE "0666", NAME=="lenovo"
save.
5. plug in the USB OTG cable and plug in your keyboard or other device. it sould say "usb host cable" then "usb device".
on some keyboards the numlock light wont work, due to the fact of power contraints on the phone, you can add support by plicing in 5v DC in to the line (soldering needed) or you can probably jsut attach a powered usb hub
And thats IT, now you can actually type documents at a reasonable pace, without paying an arm and a leg for a supported bluetooth keyboard!!!

Indeed, you can get some BT keyboards quite cheaply. I already have one, but I'd still like full USB keyboard support (I don't always have my keyboard on me, but lots of people have USB keyboards).
I tested this on an unrooted SGS (Logitech K340 unifying keyboard) and it worked fine without having to change any settings. Just plugged it into the USB OTG adapter and then plugged the adapter into the phone. It said the device was unknown but the keyboard worked when I went to type in the apps. Mice also worked. The logitech MX Performance worked fine. A bit weird seeing a mouse pointer on the phone though.
How about keyboard remapping?

Thanks. This is so cool and I gotta try it at home later (Tried 2 different keyboards at home before but didn't work). Hopefully you could find a way to use PS3 joystick as well.
Maybe we collect a list of device code and update it a single file. Then rom developer can incorporate it into their roms.
Don't worry about post counts. The is definitively a very good finding and development progress for S2.

We might have more luck with generic USB gamepads. I think all we need is someone who has the required knowledge to compile joydev.ko for our kernel.

My skill is quite limited too but with some reading it's not that hard (and I can give some help too).
I am looking for support for my Plantronics USB Headset. I am able to control volume through the headset when connected to OTG, but can't route audio through them.
I believe we do need generic drivers for USB Headsets. Hope one of the elite developers can help us. I will be happy to donate 5 euros for the same
Also, my Microsoft Wireless combo (Desktop 6000 v3) do not work while my wireless mouse 1000 do work absolutely fine on the Phone.
I am also looking for NTFS Mass Storage support which seems to be currently limited to FAT32 (and possibly FAT16) only.

Okay i could get the usb id from eurocase (i've a keyboard+mouse 2.4ghz pack) It's 1D57. Now when i connect the recivier, says "connected a usb device". But when i try to use mouse or keyboard it get stuck on one letter. I've try with a genius keyboard also (ID 0566) and it does the same... the only device that it works is a Razer mouse (without doing a thing)
My Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 works perfectly fine. However my other Microsoft Wireless Desktop combo (6000 v3) doesn't.
Also, I am looking for a way to use my USB headsets. I am able to control volume through it, but can't route audio through it.

keyboard n/w

Hello, i just bought an external kb tor my archos 80. But it do s not seem TO work. I believethe problem is that the USB port do es note give enough energy at the kb. Any suggestions?
[edit] solved.
i have a mini mouse, too, which has its own usb hub. I just put the kb and the mouse in the hub, then i plugged the hub in the usb port, and it just worked fine. No idea why, but seems that the hub just let those work.
If the keyboard needs drivers when connected to a PC then it wont work ; however , if it is just a simple USB wire connection it should work.
If its wireless then there's your problem.
Wait nevermind. He solved it.
still n/w without hub, but hey, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

It is p&p, but only on the pc. I gotta restart the tab if i wanna use that. same for the mouse, btw.

I've been playing with USB support for a while as well. I've managed to get almost every device I own to work. To get the back to work, I need to turn on the 3G (to get power).
Rosewill SD Reader (Both - Some times requires mutliple insertions)
Logitech Keyboard and Mouse (Both - Unify)
El-cheapo game control (back only and required a USB hub)
USB3 external NTFS 640GB (back - read only)
Fail: i-Rocks MultiReader
One of the tricks I've seen is to insert a USB hub between the devices. I have no idea why, but sometimes this helps (although it sucks power). Sometimes I have to reboot to make it work. Another trick is turning the 3G Stick on and off.

Is there like a network device that I can buy to turn my 2.5" external hard drives into NAS so I can access my movies from Stick TV running XBMC?

Most new wireless routers have usb with media server features.
If you use a separate router that allows you to connect your external HD & wish to keep the Fire TV connected to your current router then I believe you'll have to bridge both routers, if not then you can only connect to one wireless router at a time. The setup itself shouldn't be that hard but it does take some configuration.
Another option would be to purchase a Y-OTG cable that allows you to connect your external HD directly to the stick but I believe your external HD would need an external power source to make it work. Again, I can't confirm if what I wrote would actually work..just throwing some ideas out there.

Thanks, but I don't believe this will work because it works as a separate router, if it was a USB to CAT5 hub of some sort, it would be ideal but this does not function like that. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I believe they only work with one USB at a time and the one I had (Netgear AC1750) did not work properly, kept dropping connection or just would randomly not see the hard drive, the way it works is not very user friendly. In fact once it even corrupted one of my hard drives, and I freaked! Luckily Wndows was able to correct the issue. It doesn't show the folders as NAS but more like a network device like a PC, so you couldn't easily see the data in there. I now have a TP Link, WDR3600, I believe it works fine with USB Thumb Drives but it won't work with USB hard drives (multiple) but I can at least try to buy a USB HUB and try that to see if it can mount multiple hard drives. As I mentioned above, I am also concerned about corrupting the hard drives when router is finicky.

I believe Fire Stick TV has only one USB port for power and power is required to keep it running. With Y-OTG, we won't be able to get power to the 2.5" external drive anyway and also there is no way to mount that drive easily , so network would be best option.
Found this but it has less than stellar reviews:

you could try a pogo plug, also make sure the hard drive is not going to sleep. i use a netgear router and have not had an issue with the stick seeing my media. i can mount it as a dlna drive or smb. if you are looking to use it with plex then u will need an actual nas drive so u can run the plex server on it. if the router u have only has one port it is prob only going to mount one drive. but with what ever solution u use i would make sure that the sleep function is off on the hard drive as it can cause issues. if i remember correctly on some of the pogo plugs u can install arch linux and then plug a drive into and have it act as an actual nas and not just a hard drive plugged into the router.

Correct, which is why I said the external HD would have to have a separate power supply that is not powered via USB, I do see your point though as most new external drives are powered through the USB.. The Y-OTG cable will still allow you to power your stick & utilize the other connection for data but again if your external HD doesn't have a non-usb connection for power then yes you're out of luck.
I know with the Fire TV Box, people use an app called StickMount to mount external storage, the caveat though is your AFTS has to be Rooted; my guess is with the Y-OTG cable it should allow you to connect your external HD & run the same app but that's if everything I mentioned is in order.

I thought about getting the box since it has better hardware and more ways to "hack" but at $19 I couldn't pass on the Stick which finally allowed me to turn off my computer completely! Now if I can get my XBMC see my storage, i'll be done. Honestly if they charged $50 for stick with USB input or for the actual fire TV box and add USB ports, that would be amazing. I think Apple TV does that, right? But can we get Amazon and XBMC on it?

What does Pogo exactly do? I thought it was a hardware for a very specific service to access your files remotely, can you even see the files locally using simple sharing process?
Is this something I can do with Raspberry Pi? I just thought of this, I remember seeing RP units with multiple USB ports and RJ45. If there is a small NAS software, or even a simple linux that allows you to share your drives with other devices, this just might be what I am looking for. I am not sure if RP can power 3 drives simultaneously,
How is something like this?

ya you can use minidlna i think it is called for the rpi. a buddy of mine does that, he says its not the best thing in the world but it does work. i think if you got a banana-pi it may work better as it has better specs and still works with all the rpi stuff. as for the pogo plug im not sure how it normally works but i do know people have been putting arch linux on them to use them for dlna stuff and the model for that is under 20$ iirc

I've been checking these, I thought r-pie was about $20 but it seems it will cost a bit more than that if I consider using it as NAS after case, etc it will be $50-$60 or so looks like it. Thanks, but I think I need couple of these, one for each drive, also not sure how the drives get their power or how this one is powered. If it is possible to use this with a hub, maybe it might work, but I am not sure.
In case this thing doesn't work as planned (if I can't easily get XBMC to see external drives) what would you guys recommend as a device that I can run Amazon Prime Video AND be able to access my local videos without having to run my PC 24/7 or at least having to run it whenever I want to watch something off-line.
This will allow pass-through of wifi.

It do want to point out that these wireless dongles that connect to the external HD need the option to work in infrastructure mode & not in ad-hoc mode (peer to peer).
If they strictly work in ad-hoc mode then you'll only be able to connect to the ad-hoc device (in this case whatever is physically connected to the dongle), which means you won't be able to connect to your home's wireless network at the same. In others words you'll have to disconnect & then reconnect to each different wireless connection as needed.
"An ad hoc network is one where computers connect directly to each other on a one-to-one basis. This is useful for impromptu file sharing between two computers. An infrastructure network is one where computers connect to a shared access point. This kind of connection is useful when sharing a printer, Internet connection, and/or file sharing server." - via Amazons Q&A page.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it seems like this is a one-to-one connection. Sort of like how new "wifi" cameras worked until they changed the way they work, they could only act as hotspot so you could get pictures from your camera with direct connection from PC and not via router.

I don't understand why they can't just make these devices with an ethernet port instead... That would solve the problem.

Look here for where it says "create an Internet briigde to access the web" http://www.kingston.com/us/wireless/wireless_readers#mlw221
or check out the app

I know this feature works as I have used it myself, but the only storage that I have used are thumb drives and sd cards.
It is supposed to work with USB hard drives up to 1tb but I don't have any to test with.
Edit....the G2 model.has an ethernet port. In the questions section someone replied that the G2 will work with 2tb HD's and I see that up to eight devices can hook to it rather than only three.

Pogo with archlinux
The Pogoplug e02 hacked with archlinux and minidlna works nice. Cost 20$ on amazon, a bit slow but gets the work done.

Is the app only way to change settings or access the device? Does it have SMB or DLNA type file server? Every single device shown on their product page is either a phone or a tablet, how do you get your data on Windows (it lists windows as compatible)?
It also says "For Android and Kindle Fire, video support is limited to 2GB." I believe that doesn't matter if we use XBMC on any device including Android based Fire Stick, right?
Found the video here:

Thanks, the G2 model's ethernet port is acting as WAN port to turn wired connection to wireless, so only way to connect with this device locally is still wireless, which is still OK since it seems like this is the only device that can do this. I have 3 devices, varying from 500 to 2TB so it sounds like I definitely need G2.

I have to admit it was an impulse buy from Staples store and other than connecting to it to make sure it worked I haven't used it at all. Sorry I can't answer any more questions, but in the question section of Amazon for the G2 there were responses from a Kingston agent named Jewell and she gave this at the end " For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Thank you for choosing Kingston".

OnePlus3 Lan

Hello there,
I've had constant problems with my wifi reception in my room, so I decided to move to ethernet on my phone, at least for streaming video content.
Next I did order this https://www.reichelt.de/?ARTICLE=165094&PROVID=2788&wt_mc=amc141526782519998&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwevLBRCGARIsAKnAJvdjdNWKYiUvEuktVoxBqvco-mV6dL5eAIaDVH68KX7jdTnmxVvdytYaAn-CEALw_wcB Lan to Usb type C adapter...
Aaaand it is not working...
looking at this tutorial, I think I should just be plugging it in and then seeing the icon in my status bar, right?
but I am not...
My guess would be, that I need an usb OTG adapter for whatever reason.
Sadly I do not have any other usb type C enabled devices to test the adapter, but it gets warm and is detected by my switch, so I guess it is working.
Has anyone in here experience with connecting a OP3 or in fact any Android 7 phone to Ethernet?
thanks a lot for help with this!
If your intention is to get internet via cable, and you have a laptop or pc in your room, you can simply keep the ethernet in you pc/laptop, and then use an reverse tethering app, to get the internet on your phone using your usb cable. I remember doing this a couple of years ago when i had an samsung galaxy mini
Quell this would not be in my intentions, but if it is the only way...
Did anyone in here try to use a Oneplus 3 with Ethernet yet?
Btw, I am on stock Oxygen OS and would like to stay there, as I would like to use my phone for mobile payments in the future.
