Aftermarket 360 controller problems with fire TV - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried two different wired controllers(third party), neither worked. The mapping was off. Does it have to be a Microsoft controller....... Anyone else having this issue?

I don't seem to be, using a Gamestop-branded 360 controller and the mapping's perfect.
HID controller mapping (ps3-style) seems tobe mapped strangely for me, but that's how I've seen it on all other android devices too :/

[Q] Xbox 360 controller with OTG cable not working correctly

Hi, I've got a V500 which I installed infecteds cm11 build, I've since bought an OTG cable and tried to plug in my 360 controller, but I'm having some issues, I downloaded a gamepad testing app and it seems like the button presses are registering, but it's not registering the releases. Is anyone else having this issue or could it just be my cable/controller/tablet?
I just tried with a brand new wireless 360 controller with the adapter and with that controller only the right bumper sticks. This seems like a really strange issue. Is there anyway I can find out what's causing it?
Hi chris
Nice to see I'm not alone with this issue as well.
As far as I've tested, whenever we press the A,B,X,Y,R1,L1 buttons they don't register the releases.
I've tried many different things, such as changing the keyboard layout for the controllers, and even making my own. Not successful though.
Well, I've managed to "bypass" this problem by configuring the gamepad keys on the games (the ones that we can configure, of course) to don't use these buttons I listed.
I changed the A,B,X,Y to the right analog stick, and the R1,L1 buttons to the R2,L2 Triggers (which are analogic).
Then the controller may work flawlessly.
Nice to know I'm not the only one to experience this issue. Weirdly I can use my 360 controller to navigate around the android interface, but struggle to get it to do anything when it comes to using it in game.
has anyone managed to get this to work?
I've tried the same cable with the same pad on my nexus 5 and it works perfectly, so there is something wrong with the USB driver.
All I want to do is play ps1 games on my tablet.

[Q] DualShock 4 Issues with Button Mapping & Using 2 Pads or More.

I Love my DS4 Controller with the Fire TV. But I've been having an issue where in some apps the buttons aren't mapping correctly or not usable at all.
Im also having issues with using more than one controller at the same time. The buttons on either controller map as the same input and both controllers only control player one. This happens both through Bluetooth and wired
I know we currently do not have IME support yet even with root, but i was hoping for any suggestions that may help with this.
Thanks!.

Controller pairing

Hi, I've got the d855 g3, I play games on it a lot, a while back I tried using a keyboard and mouse to play gta San andreas, it sort of worked, except for the mouse which just made me keep spinning. I got a wired xbox 360 controller recently and plugged that into my phone. It worked, I tried San andreas again but I had no control of the direction I'd be looking, the camera was circling my character. So then I tried modern combat 5, it didn't work either, it just looked up, whilst all my other buttons and controls worked. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
You can use Sixaxis app with a PS3 controller (Bluetooth) and it will work natively without setting up a controller profile.
Sent from my LG G3
That's not really what I meant, it's noth8ng to do with the controller profile, every controller just looks up, whether it's the mouse and keyboard or my wired xbox controller, I dint have a Sony console, so buying a dualshock would be a waste. Have you got a fix for the looking up problem?
Anyone else?
Nvm worked it out.had to enter some type of code onto a terminal emulator. Search it on xda forums if you need it.

[Q] Input lag with SNES emulator?

Hey all,
So I got SNES9x EX+ sideloaded and booting up just fine. Loaded up some games and was playing away. Something felt off and I noticed that there is just a tiny bit of input lag from button press to game. Has anyone else experienced this?
I am using the Amazon game controller or whatever it's called, if that matters. Wasn't sure if this was a known issue, or do I need to edit/change anything?

I tried to use a Nyko playpad pro which from my understanding is the same as the fire controller. I noticed a lag with it, basically made most games unplayable. I switched to a xbox 360 controller using the usb receiver dongle and it is working superbly.

Excellent news, I'll give that a shot, thank you for the reply.
I've had inconsistent lag with a MOGA Bluetooth controller, both on my phone and on my FireTV stick. Sometimes it's spot on, but then other times the lag will get me killed. Old school gaming does not work well with any input lag. I'm glad I read this before buying the Amazon controller.
Now I wonder if I'll find a way to get the XBOX controller to work on the FireTV stick...

Yah it's kind of strange... Other games seem to work just fine with the controller (and I kind of like the controller). Mostly have played the Sev Zero seems to work just fine with no input lag, felt like just playing any other system, but SNES 9x EX+ or whatever just didn't work well with it.
Hoping to try out the Receiver + 360 controllers today and verify no input lag as someone had suggested.

I have an xbox360 controller with usb receiver and am getting about 1-2 second lag on keypress. I use the same controller and receiver on my pc and there's no lag. Both are official MS products. I found this thread because I was looking to see if the amazon controller showed similar lag with an snes emulator (Snes9x Ex+). Looks like OP is having the same issue I have with the FireTV controller, but it looks like you aren't having the problem with my same setup, unless you're using 3rd party.
Did you do anything special, or just plugged it in and all was well?
I have both the Nyko playpad and the Xbox 360 wireless receiever. I have noticed lag using both controllers (on most emulators). Playing around with the refresh rate settings in the emulator seemed to help some. Changing the refresh rate to 60 worked the best. Disabling any TV motion effect (120hz or greater) for your Fire TV input also helps, but I don' think the lag is completely eliminated. I'm interested to see if anyone else has ideas/input. It doesn't seem like a controller issue.

The 360 controller + receiver definitely improved for me over the Amazon game controller, but there is still a tiny bit.. I'll try messing around with some settings as well that were mentioned in this thread.
Super Mario World was way more playable though, with the 360 controller + receiver.

I did nothing special, just plugged it into my 4 port hub with 0 lag on NES, SNES, Genesis emu's. It is the official Microsoft wireless dongle, not sure if that matters

Interesting. My controller and dongle are both official microsoft products, but I don't have a hub. Is your hub powered? Also, what emulator? I'm mainly interested in SNES at the moment and am using SNES9x EX+
With my DS4 controller it will work beautifully for about 5 minutes then I would get massive input lag .. like minute delays making it absolutely useless .. it also makes my firetv remote useless .. as if the Bluetooth reciever is absolutely jammed up. I have to restart or disconnect controller and wait 5-10 minutes before I can use any bluetooth devices ... soo uhh if you have input lag maybe try a non bluetooth controller
Has anyone else experienced this?
Yep definitely lagging the system with the Xbox 360 dongle. I have to unplug the dongle to make the system stable again.
i have the same probleme here on Fire TV Stick with Bluetooth controller! Is there a workaround or any news??
Perhaps we could write a bugreport to amazon?
I also agree with esdouble, but the thinking of my way the RetroArch emulator is one of the best emulator.
I only came to this thread researching if the Amazon Fire TV controller was any better than my Stratus XL which constantly has input lag issues when playing SNES 9X on my Fire TV 3 Gen which I see is no better.

using a game controller for mouse functionality...

I am currently using the Sixaxis app with sony ps3 dualshock controller to control my fire tv - it works great - has support for home button, mouse mode and can be customized very well.
My only problem is that, the controller will not charge no matter what - from the fire tv directly, or when connected to pc, or from a wall charger.
The only way to charge it is to reset it (via the small pinhole in the back), or connect it to ps3 - this will make it lose the pairing with the fire tv and it will start charging again. I will have to set the bluetooth address again via the SixaxisPairTool from PC to get it to pair with the fire tv again.
My first question is - does the charging work for you after you have used the SixaxisPairTool from PC?
I also have a gamestop red samurai v2 controller. This pairs and works with the fire tv without any special app. However, misses mouse control.
I went through the threads here and understand that by creating a custom keyboard.kl file we can get the behavior we want for that controller. Can that idea be used to control mouse behavior as well? Any pointers would be welcome.
Thanks.

hah, so you're here as well... I also have/had ps3 controller paired with sixaxis, but I haven't used it for a while and ATM does need to be charged with actual PS3.
So, to answer your question PS3 controller did work(charged via phone charger and xbox one usb) for me after it was paired with sixaxis for long time until eventually I stopped using it and then ran out of juice. Now it needs PS3 to charge again (maybe once), before I can reuse wall charger. Problem is, I don't have PS3 on me.
yep. the ps3 controller with sixaxis app works so beautifully with both regular apps and side loaded apps (that require mouse), it is a shame that it cannot be charged.
i have it setup such that the right analog is mouse (always in mouse mode), left analog is rew/ff/prev/next, d-pad is d-pad, L1 and R1 are left and right mouse, etc.
the problem is the sixaxis tool works only with sony ps3 controller. is there any other app like this that will do the same with any controller? thanks.

well there are xbox 360 and xbox one controllers "how to" here, but I haven't tried them since both somewhat requires usb cable or dongle because they are not bluetooth based. and just repeating myself here, but ps3 controller does charge using other options and NOT ps3 only. BUT if it dies, then PS3 is required to recharge because you'll have to reset it.
ok. i am not sure why the charging does not work for me though. it won't even charge from PC once the SixAxisPairTool changes the mac address.
i saw the tincore app and i am planning to try it today with my gamestop controller.
How did you configure the sixaxis controller app? Whenever I try to connect the controller it never finds it even if i have the correct bluetooth address paired.
SUCCESS with tincore app. configuration is a bit difficult due to access via the fire tv remote and due to some menu items not showing up fully. however, once configured, the gamestop red samurai v2 remote works flawlessly - for necessary buttons as well as mouse.
i cannot get it to auto apply on restart and will investigate that later. for now, i am happy . thanks.

not sure what you are missing, but you can try this:
1. start the sixaxis server in fire tv and get the bluetooth address from bottom left
2. use the SixaxisPairTool in PC to set that address on the controller (for good measure you can reset the controller first by the pinhole in the back)
3. now pressing the glass PS button on controller should pair it
