[Q] Performance of LTE version in US - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Hi. I purchased the Pro.8.4 for $350 at Best Buy. Apparently they only sell the WiFi version. I noticed that you can get the LTE version on Expansys for about $450. Anybody in the US buy the LTE version? What carrier you using and how is it working out. Is it worth the extra $100 to you? Thanks!

I bought the T325 and I am using it on AT&T. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the correct LTE bands for the U.S., so the best it can get is H+ which is 3g. Having said that, I don't have LTE where I live but I get 14Mbps on H+ so I'm not missing the LTE at home. I travel a lot and most of the places I go to have 3g speeds between 3-6Mbps so it does ok (a lot better than hotel wifi).
The thing to consider is that on AT&T, and I'm assuming t-Mobile as well, the T325 shows up as a cell phone so it will require a full cell phone sim. A data-only sim won't activate. I also had to tweak the APN to get a solid connection.
All said, I'm very happy with the T325 and I use it as my daily phone/tablet.

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Just wondering how you use it as a phone. Due you use it via bluetooth device?

I can confirm what flymacs wrote. It doesn't support LTE in US. I'm using AT&T as well and I've confirmed there is LTE coverage where I'm at from other AT&T users but I only connect to H+ (3G).
Not a real problem for me as I'm a light data user and I knew going in that LTE was a long shot.

The SM-T325 is the Cellular/International/Non-U.S. LTE version. The SM-T320 is the wifi only version. The T325 has a earpiece just like all cell phones. You can make/answer calls simply by holding it up to your ear like any other cell phone. Granted, it may look silly holding this size of a device next to your head. I use both a wired earbud and a bluetooth headset.
Phone quality and reception is very good. In fact the audio quality of the T325 is better than most of the devices I've used. The only minor issue I have is my work apps don't scale very well to the high ppi of the screen. But that is not the phone's fault.

[Q] Work on AT&T without much trouble?

Thinking of buying this phone on ebay (unlocked) to use with StraightTalk AT&T bands, I know it's possible but will I have to send the phone off somewhere to get the radio re-flashed? Several of the phones on ebay come unlocked.
Also I live on the edge of the network and I am using an Infuse 4g and get extremely flaky reception with BOTH the network and WIFI, compared to an old motorola phone, anyone report any problems with signal or WIFI antennae strength?

If it comes unlocked from ebay it doesn't have to be shipped anywhere additional. It's already unlocked and ready for any GSM sim. As for the Infuse 4G, I couldn't answer. If the service area is ****ty it's gonna be ****ty.
Thanks Muff, I do live in a pretty ****ty service area, I may just end up sticking with a Motorola phone. Maybe I'm crazy but my previous Moto phone's have always had superior reception to other branded phone's I've seen. My infuse's WIFI get's 1 bar 20ft away where as my droid 1 had full bars, and although I cannot really compare the 2 phones on network, my buddies iPhone(at&t) can still get calls throughout my house where as I constantly lose signal mid-call. I just wish Moto wasn't so stingy with their bootloaders.

[Q] P605 LTE What service

I know that the P605 will not work with LTE. However I can confirm that my straight talk Sim card works and I am getting HSPA+ (ATT Straight Talk Card) Here is my situation. I purchased a sim car from AT&T and activated it on the Gophone plan.. $35 per month for 500 minutes and unlimited text and data. For some reason no matter what APN I put in I don't get any data. I got data the first night I set it up and now I get no data. I have a International Version of the Galaxy S4 running with a GoPhone dumb phone $50 per month unlimited everything. (AT&T system does not recognize the IMEI so it reverts it to a dumb phone). Why isn't it working for my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014. I figure $35 bucks isn't a bad deal. Please assist or am I dead in the water.

I also have a P605, and I've been trying to get connected via Red Pocket Mobile, an AT&T MVNO, but I haven't had much luck. However, my issues are with Red Pocket's terrible customer service, and trying to get their smallest data plan (1GB for $10) connected to the sim card (that it took them 2 weeks to send).
I've read about a T-Mobile $30/month plan for BYOD devices that I will test out, once I get the sim card from them (currently backordered)...My device had a USA T-Mobile profile already present in the APN settings, I'm hoping it will work!

I had that Tmobile plan however my area is not fully framed for the 1900MHZ on tmobile. AT&T works but like I said must be something funky going one. At this point I may send my device back for a refund or sell it. I may just wait for a US carrier to get it. Yeah I know I won't get updates or support from US carriers.........wait damn that........ I will get my money back for this one and just go back to using my wifi version. (gave to my wife but will have to get it back) US carriers really suck when it comes to certain things.

Good luck getting your WiFi back from your wife
San Diego should be farmed to 1900 so I'm hoping for decent coverage around town. I faced the same dilemma here, wait or go for it... My old tablet was an Acer A500 so I really needed something (and some people complain about lag on the Note? Ha!).
If you want, I could send you the APN setting Red Pocket lists on their manual setup page, if you think that would help...
Bummer

I noticed someone in another thread mentioned they had AT&T working. I can't post links, but in the Original Android Development section, "[RECOVERY] TWRP2.6.3.x TeamWin Recovery Project 12/27" at the top of page 11 there is a message about using AT&T and getting HSPA+ data.

I'm expecting my P605 this Friday. I got it from Ebay. I have a TMO on my Note 3, so technically, should my sim card work on my P605 when I try it?
Will the APN seetings on the phone for TMO work on the P605? Thanks guys.

There shouldn't be any problems using the sim and APN settings. The data rate you will see will depend on your area. If TMO has 'reformed' the edge frequencies to HSPA then you will get decent data. Otherwise you may get stuck with edge...

If your Note 3 isn't using LTE when it gets those speeds, then 'maybe'. Because the P605 doesn't have a perfect match for US freqs it still may not. I'm not sure where you are located, but if it's in a refarmed area you should (P605 supports HSPA on 1900). Here is the link (hope it goes) for the refarmed areas:

Sorry, I'm just learning all this too, and I can't really give you a definitive answer!

Hey bro you've been a big help. Thanks. I bought the tablet without knowing this issue. Anyway, I get a 4G LTE signal on my Note 3 so I guess that's LTE speed. I'm in Houston, TX and it says in the link you posted that we are one of the modernized market so we'll see.
Has anyone gotten the P605 to work on AT&T
Has anyone gotten this thing to work on the AT&T go Plans?
I need a carrier with a good rate that uses the AT&T network. Previously I would put my international devices on the go phone plan since it sees it in the system as a dumb phone however with this one it won't connect to the data. Gives me a message that I need to add a supported data plan.

Ok guys. Tried my TMO sim on this note 10.1 and it's only getting hspa+. I run a speedtest and got 11/3 d/u speed.
It's a lot better if I tether my note 3, I'm getting the same speed I get from phone.

Because the P605 doesn't support LTE in the US frequencies, HSDPA+ is the best you will be able to do. Your note 3 is tuned to use the LTE freqs here.

[Q] T-Mobile SM-P607T - cannot connect to 2G/Edge network?

Hello gang,
I picked up a new T-Mobile Note 10.1 2014 edition 2 days ago. So far, everything seems to be great. There is one issue however that seems perplexing. My tablet connects to 4G and LTE networks just fine but for some reason, it will not connect to 2G/Edge networks near my home. I live in a rural part of PA where T-Mobile doesn't have 4G/LTE coverage. My Samsung Galaxy S3 connects to the Edge network near my house without issue. However, my tablet does not connect and simply shows a small X where the signal meter is.
I spoke to T-Mobile tech support this morning and they seem to think that the band covering 2G may be dead. Could this be possible when 4G and LTE work just fine?
Also, the options under Network mode are now limited to 2: LTE/WCDMA (auto connect) and WCDMA only. My SGS3 has a GSM only option which the tablet seems to be missing.
I am running Android 4.4.2. Any thoughts / suggestions?
Thanks!

I can't state this as a fact for the tmo P607T but remember that the tmo 3g version of the
Samsung galaxy tab plus 7.0 had a similar situation. Users were looking to add phone functions
to this device.
Turned out on the xda threads that the tmo tab plus 7.0 had no hardware
to support phone functions as the international version did.

The GSM mode only makes it so you can force the Device into 2g or Edge mode. If you do not want to use LTE just pick WCDMA which is 3g/HSPA+ and GSM(2g/edge). If you are looking to turn off the T-Mobile data part Pull the Sim card out or just put the Tablet into Airplane mode which you can till turn on Wifi. I bought my Note just for Wifi, and using EIP. So i am not using it with T-Mobile Data. getting a data plan on the tablet is a big waste when you can just hotpsot your phone.

Well, it turns out that my tablet is defective. T-Mobile is sending me a replacement. I spoke to several tier 2 techs including one Samsung specialist and they all concurred that the band governing 2g on my Note must be inoperative. Weird right?
Well I got my replacement Note in the mail yesterday and it also will not connect to the 2G/Edge network near my house. I highly doubt I could have gotten 2 bad tablets in a row so there's something else amiss here. Perhaps the specs on T-Mo's website is incorrect and this new device simply doesn't have the capability to go to 2G/Edge or the modem firmware being used is a crippled version.
Very disappointed to say the least; yes Edge is horrendously slow but can be beneficial in a pinch sometimes. Any thoughts?

Yeah, I think you're right; despite unlocking mine and using it on AT&T (which does have better coverage), there's places on my commute where there's 4 bars, yet no data transfer. I've yet to see an "E" or "3G" symbol, either.
I'm thinking about trying to flash the P605M radio, but that'll have to wait 'till the weekend.

Please keep me posted on your results if you do end up flashing the modem. I'd be very interested to see what you discover.
I wonder if this move by T-Mo to cut 2g/Edge compatibility has something to do with their rumored intention of converting all of their 2g spectrum to 4g? Even if that were true though, that precludes using this as an unlocked device in other areas or countries that may only have 2g/3g coverage. What about data roaming?

Well, turns out that I might put that off a little bit later than the weekend- I've since had mine unlocked and as it gets the VZW LTE bands, I'm going to see how well it does on that (VZW drops back to CDMA in non-LTE areas, so I'd be completely without service). VZW LTE is pretty ubiquitous from what I'd seen with my OG Xoom, but if it turns out I lose service on the train in large spots I'll revisit GSM options again.
Besides, I might just flash the radios just to see what happens

LG d855 Euro model of G3, since not using LTE will it have unlimited data?

I have a d855 model and I read it can't use LTE. Mine displays H instead of LTE but streams hd video as fast as my LTE phone or at least I notice no difference. When I did speed test when tether to laptop I got 4mbps which is still high speed but I think LTE is way faster.
My question is if no 4g/LTE which is limited at 2.5gb per month then am I unlimited high speed ? Just slower high speed.
Nope, 2.5gb with LTE, HSDPA, 3G, EDGE or GPRS and after that your speed will be limited to 64kbit/s (or slower) till end of month.
The phone does in fact have LTE. And whatever stipulations are concerning your data plan are specific to the plan you have on your wireless carrier.

I'm not so much concerned with LTE being available in other parts of the world based on the frequencies of the d855. I need LTE here in the USA and so far I've found the question asked a ton of times and all of the answers are that it does not have LTE. It does not have 1700 or 1900 capabilities which is what T-mobile needs. I even read posts where ATT people can't seem to get it to work with their LTE. I tested it last night and got 3g speeds for tethering 4.19mbps, then put sim in my chinese Huawei and got 28.35mbps so for sure it's on 3g and not LTE. It works great on 3g and is fairly fast but the fact that a USA seller who is selling in the USA would specifically state 4g LTE phone and not mention anywhere in the ebay ad that LTE won't work in the country he is trying to sell it is irritating. If he was a seller in another country then it would be another story. Even his rating was great and no complaints about the d855 but most people might not care that they aren't getting LTE.

Sending Note to Buddy Overseas

Hello all. Been a long while since I've been on the forums. I've got a VZW Note 10+ (SM-N975U) that I just paid off through my carrier. However I'm going to be switching me and my family to ATT solely for better coverage reasons and a buddy of mine needs a new phone bad. I've thought it upon myself to send my Note to him however I'm not 100% sure how good the lte functionality would be for him.
He says right now in his area the only bands they honestly support are 900/1800/2400 for the 4G LTE handle. I wasn't able to find much for the LTE handles this one specifically supports which is why I'm making this post. Would my phone be compatible if I had sent it to him.?
I can send whatever screenshots necessary, this is just something that's new to me
Thanks all
