[Q] S3 Data Usage Menu - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Weird Question:
Does the data usage menu change appearance?
Currently, mine only shows the dropdown menu for which cycle I want to view, a graph that shows way more data than I actually used(maybe it is combined data and wi-fi?) and a breakdown of usage by app. Is there anyway to get the other menu back where the set limit, allow mobile data and whatever other checkboxes are usually there?

I think it depends on the ROM you're using mine shows the checkboxes for warning and limit and then when I turn those on I can adjust the levels below and it is possible that it can show wifi and mobile data but its an option you can turn off.

I am on the default System, it changes seemingly randomly.
I attached a screenshot of the current look, as of an hour ago, it was the normal one with the check-boxes and all.

Right about that Data Usage Cycle box is where I have 3 checkboxes that say Mobile Data, Limit Mobile Data Usage and Alert me about data usage.
So Im not sure where yours are. Im on the latest KitKat update and Wicked X Rom but the boxes where there on the stock Kitkat rom

I dont think they show up unless you have mobile data turned on and by the looks of your over 4gb those appear to be wifi stats. So maybe you need to turn mobile data on and then you'll see the checkboxes.

I have data turned on. If I restart my phone, the normal menu appears (the one you see on your phone) but then after an undetermined amount of time, it goes to the screen you see in that screenshot... It is all very odd.
Also, it shows different amounts of data used per app (which would be sort of expected if the screen i get has compounded data with WiFi, but the reason it is odd is that it shows that I used more data for certain apps on data alone vs data + WiFi)

App to monitor mobile internet usage

May be shooting in the dark here, but does anyone know if there is an app available that monitors your 3gp mobile internet usage. i.e Shows your internet usage(MB) that has been used over 3gp, not what you have used over wireless.
Thanks
I use Data Counter Widget, allows me to set it to show monthly statistics too from a set start point each month, so when your bill is paid & allowances are reset
Counts Wifi and 3g/GPRS/Cell data

I used to use this too, until I discovered it stopped my phone from sleeping.
Moved onto 3G Watchdog which is pretty decent.
I can vouch for 3G Watchdog as well.
+1 for watchdog
can it distinguish between two sims?
i am having a dualsim adapter. and i only care for one of them.

Can't say I've had the issue with the phone stopping sleeping, everything works perfectly!
try 'call meter ng'. monitors data as well as calls and messages. advantage with 3gwatchdog is the home screen widget, but both are equally accurate.

Easy to check, dial *#*#4636#*#* and go into Battery history.
My running figure was at 100%, and looking in the Partial wake usage menu showed DCW to the be culprit

I did what you said and see no Data counter widget. They just update a new version 4 days ago, maybe it's fixed?
Perhaps... hope so, as I kinda liked it, other than the battery drain
same, i like how it auto reset itself every month.
3G Watchdog does that too, and even predicts how much you will use upto a given point (in my case, the billing date)
3G Watchdog for me
Can you de-activate "3G Watchdog" ?
I plan to use it only when roaming.
Thanks for the advice chaps, ill give the 3g watchdog a go.

You can hide the notification icon, and not use the widget but that's about it.

I need some tips to avoid too much data usage on Tmobile samsung galaxy s2

I usually have wifi connection ,and rarely need data
but I might need to check emails, browse website and or make/recieve calls through viber every once in a while ,where the wifi is not available ,
so does 200 Mb enough for the usage i mentioned above ?
is there any tips i can do to avoid data usage on the background ,like when the phone on stand by ?what are the apps that contiguously drain the data usage?
will deactivating sync help ?anything else ?
Thanks
you can manually turn data ON/OFF with a widget
that will prevent any unwanted transaction
Yes you will be okay as long as you turn of syncing in settings.. for example Google stance and Facebook email sync while you're on 4g
sent from my real Gs move in silence like lasagna
Yes that sounds fine for 200mb. Just don't browse like.. videos or something crazy. Just make sure you turn Data off whenever you can. Track your usage hard for the first while to make sure you don't go over.
thank you guys
will turning off syncing be enough to save the data without needing to turn off the 4g data?
because I noticed if i did turn off the 4g data ,i won't be able to receive MMS
one more question
do navigation and the google maps require alot of data usage ?
my advice would be get the 2 gb data package because with the 200 mb u get charged for overages but with the 2 gb and 5 and up u only get throttled i think???????
Also use traffic watch apps like: https://market.android.com/details?...S5yb3lzb2xiZXJnLmFuZHJvaWQuZGF0YWNvdW50ZXIiXQ..

Never tried navigation but google maps doesn't require A LOT of data usage (at least to me), but you should be careful with 200mb of data a month...
Especially you are always in the same area then every time you use google maps you accumulate the map tiles you download in cache so that next time you are in the same area google maps doesn't try to download the same area again.
Try using some data monitoring app that tells you how much you used at any time.
I'm not going to recommend any ways of saving you data but i can recommend you an app that I've been using to save me time and effort of toggling the sync and data on and off. Use "llama" and set the settings to your desire.
You can search in the battery life thread for a very good setting for "Wifi connected" and "wifi disconnected"...I'm using it now and it's helping me a lot...getting around 30 hrs battery with moderate usage. I'm connected to a wifi most of the time.
Rooted, but running stock for now. Plan to flash some roms later when I get bored.
Juice defender you can choose to turn off data when screen is off. and or allow only periodic updates. Or you can turn of 3g/4g data any time you have a wifi signal lots of choices to fit your need to minimize data use. Since data usually means battery life you will find many power managment apps will help you.

[Q] Very high mobile data usage reported by carrier, no evidence in phone

EDIT: The issue was the carrier's fault and not the OS
I found out yesterday that I breached the 5 GB limit of data usage for the month when the carrier completely cut my data connections.
I went to check the reported usage in the system settings and it just shows 687 MB used for the month, the highest usage app is facebook with just a little over 100 MB used.
Now here's some facts:
Running Ditto Note 3 v 3.2 (android 4.3) (based on XXUEMK9) (Baseband: N7100XXUEMJ9)
Never used tethering this month
I always keep 3G off at night and when I'm on WIFI
How do I find out what could have caused all this data usage?
The detailed connections report from the carrier will come in 2 months so I can't know anything yet from that, I'd like to try and figure out something now.
I will be getting a data plan upgrade that will allow me 500 more MB for the month but I'm afraid that if I don't do something fast I might end up wasting all the data again, for now I'm planning of clean flashing the newest release of the rom but I'd like to know if there is some app that will let me monitor data usage in a more detailed way as it seems the built-in android graph doesn't record this hidden data that was used.

Auto sync is already off actually, I always do it manually (actually forget to do it manually), it should show up in the graph if it the culprit were auto sync
Check to see if photo syncing is enabled, google photo's, picassa etc.
I would also do a malware scan with a decent scanner like ESET.

The operator confirmed that the 5 GB have been used, I must wait 2 months to obtain detailed reports though.
Still, something has to have happened on the phone, if it's the operator I have no way of proving it.

Maybe they have to prove the data is consumed by you.
Try to shut off the phone and remove the battery all night for a few days.

Would they pick what the system graph wouldn't though?
I don't know how they are made, what if they just use the same data?
Can anyone confirm this?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobidia.android.mdm this app will tell you how much data you've used each day and whether it was wifi or mobile plan also give a detailed usage of each app data consumption and this doesn't register the same as what our phone does,it works independently,i've used this app when i was on ICS when detailed data consumption wasn't availble in ICS and then checking my carrier's consumption bill there were only 4-5 mb differences between what the app had registered and what the carrier had. install this for the time being till your month renews and starting the next billing cycle you'll have a better idea about your monthly usage

Thanks for the suggestion!
Turns out that it was all the carrier's fault because it happened to several people at the same time, I was just the first to report it so they didn't know about it.
In the end there was nothing with the ROM, the data the system reported was exactly what I used, no more no less.

By that logic, it should either be data on (no saving of data) or off (full saving of data) - but that is not what data saver is for. I believe its a bug or something I am overlooking (hopefully) and someone can help me with it.
don't think you can...
from:
https://developer.android.com/training/basics/network-ops/data-saver.html
When a user enables Data Saver in Settings and the device is on a metered network, the system blocks background data usage and signals apps to use less data in the foreground wherever possible.
tethered devices are basically background data usage...

set daily data limit?

Hey guys, many of you are using jio sim in India. It comes with a daily data cap of 1gb. Just want to ask is there any way we can set daily data limit or notification showing daily data usage. Btw I'm rooted nd twrp installed.
Under data usage there's a sub-menu labeled billing cycle. It has an option for a data limit. Mine only does it by month, but you can manually set the amount of data used so you can reset it every night to 0.

Um, I already know that but I don't want to reset it every night. I found a module Advanced data plan but it's not working.

Same here. This is one of the things I'm missing from my Xiaomi. People slag MIUI off, but it had some useful little features baked in. It was nice to be able to view WiFi usage by day or by month quickly too. It would be great if Oneplus would introduce something like this.
You can download an app called Data Usage Alert, Speed Indicator, Usage Monitor from play store. The app allows you to set daily, weekly and monthly data limits. It also sends notification when you reach the data limit. It is the best way to save money.
