[Q] Desire 816 proximity sensor - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I purchased my desire 816 last night and I'm loving the phone. The one thing irritating me is the proximity sensor, there is a faint red light everytime the screen is in use. Is this normal or is this an issue? Do y'all see the same on your phone?

That is not a issue . Its normal . When phone is in use that very faint red light is always on . I personally don't think it matters a lot or irritate .

Hi,
This a rare but known issue with the proximty sensor. Try searching for proximty sensor you'll find some entries read through them maybe there's already a fix.
I don't know if it'll work but you can try to recalibrate the sensor. Here's the link. "How to" is included.
Maybe it helps.

Light sensor broken, can it be turned off??

Hi all,
My light sensor appears to be broken on my phone, I put it to my ear when making a call but when i return the screen is still black.
The screen does not return to normal till the other person hangs up (anserwing mchines are giving me the rage lol)
Does anyone know how to fix it? or just turn that function off? Not sure why its suddenly broken.
cheers for your help
yes go to settings and screen disable auto light
Could be an issue of your Rom...
you can check if it is actually broken with this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951858&highlight=proximity+recalibrator
Take a vacuum cleaner and vacuum on the top left of your screen, around the screen seal, small dust particles can get in there and affect the light sensor. It worked for me... give it a shot!

[Q] Where is the One X's ambient light sensor?

Anyone know?
Left of the HTC logo above the screen. It is also where the proximity sensor is.
If you call someone, take a look at the front of your phone. You will see a steady red glow from the top left of your screen, this is where the proximity and ambient light sensor are housed.
It helps if you angle the phone, you can see that there is almost like a rectangle hole in the paint behind the glass

If you want to easily see it, enable Face Unlock, then try to unlock your phone in complete darkness, you will see that little red light comes on to the left of HTC logo.
That light seems to be permanently on after I had a viber call. Any ways to turn it off
Edit.: the cause was NotifierPro. Fixed it.

Dear Sir!
Do you mean the sensor activated during a phone call? My HTC one X last time has an abnormal behavior when I place a phone call. Normally when you move the phone away of hear it should turn on the screen back light so you are able to hang up the phone call. But my phone still be black after moving away from the hear so I need to push power button to activate the screen back-light and than hang up the phone call. Could somebody help me out on this issue? Any kind of help shall be much appreciated.
Best regards
Fredi

Peoples here are just viewing no answers?!!
Proximity sensor is used to turn off the screen during a phone call if your screen goes off during a call when you put the phone on your ear that means that the proximity sensor works

do you mean you cant answer calls because of the proximity sensor turning the phone screen off?

An idea would be going in to settings then accessibility then check "power button ends call" so when you are calling you can press the power button to end the call
another way would be to restore your phone.
make sure that the sensors area is clean(the proximity sensor is extremely sensitive)
some have had issues with screen protectors that distrupt the sensors.
i had a flickering screen problem too i was multitasking while taking a call and when i tried to use the notification the screen turned off then on again, but it was my mistake as i was keeping my hand to close to the proxi sensor.
but it could be a software bug so you could try a factory reset if everything fails
