HTC Desire 816 Power Button Issue. - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
Hope you are doing well,
As you can already know by the topic name. My 7 day old HTC Desire 816 has gone for a toss. You might ask how?
Here's the whole story. ( I haven't been posting much of topics like this, bear with me if I miss out any point)
I got the phone around 7-8 days ago. I wanted a secondary Android phone that can be used as a multimedia device, and can fit my needs for Music, surfing the web, Whatsapp, Facebook and so on. I finally decided to get this phone. I was quiet happy with it. But then suddenly after 2 days, I had this issue of the power button getting stuck inside the phone's body, and that too all by itself. And I got a message saying "To restart your device, press the power button and volume up/down button." I didn't even know why that happened, but then I thought that it might have happened because I kept the phone in my jeans. The jeans itself wasn't that tight, at least not tight for a phone's power button to get stuck!
This issue was somehow solved by gently pressing the power button again. And it used to work fine after.
But today night, (13th FRIDAY!!! June 2014) when I kept my phone to charge, the same message appeared "To restart your device, press the power button and volume up/down button." I took it normally, thinking this happened because the power button might have been stuck again, and this time the phone wasn't in my jeans pocket either, so I gently pressed it again. But this time, nothing happened. And the power button was literally inside the phone. I tried pressing it a bit harder thinking it would release itself somehow, but nothing happened either.
Maybe I just have a faulty unit? Or is it something else that's making this happen? Just disappointed because this happening to a week old device is just too bad. I have no idea what will the Service Center guys will have to tell me.
I wanted to ask can I get a replacement? I don't want to use the same handset now. Also, asking the fellow Desire 816 owners, do they face the same issue?? Like the power button not responding? Or the volume button??
It is almost 2am, tomorrow I will be visiting the service center and would let them know about the issue. I will keep you guys updated if ever interested. Fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

Here's the message that I get.

Hope it never troubles you either mate.
Are your volume and power buttons sturdy? Or do they move a bit? I find the buttons cheap since the beginning and this incident has made me hate the phone more.

I got the HTC One Mini, a 2 month old handsey for a fair price. I purchased it. I did get to return my Desire 816 back, and got the One Mini.
Thank you for the replies. Your help is much appreciated.
Not all phones are the same, mayne I just got a faulty unit. Hope no one other faces this issue. The phone indeed is good for that price. None can deny.

I am Facing same issue.
I got an Htc desire 816 10 days back and now my power button is not working.
what do i do?
Please help me out.
Thank you so much in advance.

Use pocket gravity sensor apk for the time being until you find a proper solution. If you are good enough, remove the back part of the mobile starting from head phone socket and fix the power button. Hard but the only way to make it fully functional again without changing phone.

The best option is to use a flip cover. It not only protects your phone in the long run but when you open the cover the screen turns on automatically and turns off when you shut the cover. In this way it's easier and it will also protect your phone and the power button.

Hi dude i too have the same power button problem it's stuck what should i do now

Hello everyone,
Sorry for being too late to post a reply.
It feels so bad that so many people are facing this issue after investing their hard earned money and getting a faulty device. I did get many E-Mails regarding the same. And I tried to help each and everyone of them as much as I could.
Do not panic, it is just a piece of technology, and I guess you should be able to get a replacement easily.
I'm not sure what is the replacement duration for the phones purchased from the dealer. But normally, online shopping websites provide you 30 days of replacement or money back.
So, this is for the guys who faced issues regarding the Power Button/Volume Rockers. When I faced this issue, my phone was just a few days old.
What steps did I take? And what steps should you take? If ever you got a phone from Online Shopping websites like E-Bay, Flipkart, etc., you should immediately call them and let them know that you have got a faulty device. In most of the cases they will surely replace it. They do have a 30 days replacement policy. If you face this issue after 30 days of the purchase, then all you can do is take it to the service center and tell them to replace, if they refuse, getting it repaired is the only choice you have. Head to the nearest HTC Service Center. (Which I hate)
Now, if you have purchased the device from a dealer, shop, get to the Service Center as soon as your hardware buttons start acting up. Tell them that you need a replacement, if they tell you that they will get it repaired, just say a NO to it. Because it will be time consuming and they will end up screwing the device even more. Just simply say that you need a replacement for your device.
They will inspect the device, see if there are any chances of wear and tear.
Then they shall do some online form filling thing, and give you some papers to sign. Read and sign them.
Later they will check the phone and the accessories, if they find everything is proper, they will pack the phone. And tell you to go back to the dealer, along with the letter they provide you.
Give your faulty unit to the dealer, also the letter, and get your replacement device. Or any other phone if you wish. (That's all that happened in my case)
Many of you will end up getting your phone for a repair. Which will not only consume time, but this problem will occur more often. So better say a no no to the repair.
I was lucky enough to face this issue right after 7 days of my purchase of the device. And I got a replacement. Also, in my case, the service center wasn't authorized to open the devices. They needed to send it to some other place which was far away from my city. I did tell them to replace the phone and fortunately they agreed to it. I later went to the dealer for a replacement phone, he didn't have 816 in stock. I got another phone instead.
And NO, a flipcover or anything as such will not help you from protecting your phone. Trust me on this. It has nothing to do covers and how you keep your phones. We all keep phone in pockets, and not all face issues like this. This is because of the poor designing flaw by HTC. Which is later solved by its successor the Desire 820. There are numerous complaints with the hardware buttons on the HTC Desire 816.
I was lucky because the HTC distributor was a friend of mine. And he did assist me very well.
Hope this helps somehow.
Cheers!

2-3 months old. I cannot comment on getting a replacement. You should try, maybe fight with the service center guys. I'm talking straight on point.
If they refuse. Get it repaired. That's all you can do.

I wouldn't do it personally, or recommend anyone to do this.
But if this works well for you, then awesome.

oh i diffidently agree its not for the faint of heart, i couldn't find any teardowns on the phone so i just winged it and i found that the case has 2 glue strips at the battery and in the pic you can see i tore the wrapper on the battery finding out, but there is no physical damage to the battery so im good . in the other photo you can see the surface mounted switches for the volume and power and in my case the power could be flicked back out once pushed in so thats why i though it was sticking. extreamly small dab of airtool oil and bam its good. BUT that is my case. i cant vouch that its everyones.

Kudos to you!
At least someone tried this.
My 816 was insured. I could have tried to open it. But i didn't wanted to keep the 816 with me after facing this issue with a new handset. Hence I ended up exchanging it.
Happy that your power button is rocking perfectly after this DIY.
Cheers!! [emoji482]

thanks, yeah i really like the phone and i'm a diy kinda person. been playing with androids since they came out so i'm rather comfortable fixing them myself. just wish they didn't glue the battery to the casing >.< kinda ticked me off. but the case has no creases so all's well that ends well. now that i think about it though. i should of lubricated the volume keys while i was in there too...

I also oiled my power button switch but I didn't disassemble the phone. Here's how I did it - perform at your own risk. Read all of the steps first and then be very very gentle.
Tools: lots of light (led headlamp), thin prying device (fingernail and/or plastic card), oil (3-in-One multipurpose), sewing needle
Step 1: Push on the top end of the power button. (do this assuming the phone is 'standing' up ,-e.g. head phone jack is pointing straight up) This will raise the lower end of the power button
Step 2: Grab onto the lower end of the button with your fingernail or pry device
Step 3: Slightly and gently pull on the button across its length (do this as if the phone is laying down face up, e.g. the phone's screen is pointing up). Do not pull the button out all the way. If you are doing it right, you can see a very small squarish switch with a rubber plunger - this is your power button switch, and it is what is getting stuck. This is where having lots of light begins to be your best friend
Step 4: With the button still slightly pulled out lengthwise, insert the needle into the button slot and work the rubber plunger loose. I ended up using the sharp end of the needle to stick into the rubber and pull it out back into its normal resting position. Again, be gentle (p.s. you could probably do step 5 before this step as it may help loosen the plunger up a little)
Step 5: Lubricate the rubber plunger. Dip the sharp end of the needle into a little bit of oil and run the point of the needle around the edges of the rubber plunger. Be careful not to over oil, a little bit goes a long way
Step 6: Lubricate the switch. Use the eye end of the needle to push on the rubber plunger a few times
Step 7: Repeat steps 4-6 as needed
Step 8: Release the power button and test (the button may work for a few presses and then stick again)
Step 9: Repeat steps 1-8 as needed

Screen Switches On/Off Continuously

Since a week ago my DHD screen started switching itself on every few minutes. The phone doesn't unlock but keeps lighting up which is annoying esp at night! I'm using stock 2.2.1 Sense so can't understand why this started happening. Reset or removing battery doesn't do anything either
Anyone else had this or found a solution?

I had a similar problem with my HTC Desire. I found it to be a problem with the power / lock switch on the top of the device that was getting 'stuck'.
Can you confirm if what your experiencing is the same as if you were to continually press the power / lock button on the top of the phone?
Yes, it's basically the same as the power button being pressed. I wondered if it might be stuck but it doesn't look any different or stuck..

Just out of curiosity, could the phone have been exposed to water at any point?
It's indicating to be a hardware problem since you have the Somebody on HTCPedia.com was having a similar problem and this seemed to solve their issue:
I had the exact same problem and it was (most probably) also caused by exposure to water: I had the phone in my pocket while cycling through rain and it all got wet. Since then, the power button got stuck, as in it was always pressed but sometimes was getting released depending on how the phone was held. For me, this resulted in the batter being drained in about 4 hours since it kept bringing up ShutXP.
EDIT: Do not use a flux remover (de-flux) solution/spray like I described previously (now deleted). In my case it worked for about 1 day and then then button was completely irresponsive which is a worse problem than having it always pressed (if you take the battery out, you can't turn it on).
I was inspired by a solution in another forum. I used surgical alcohol that yuou can by at any pharmacy. The higher the concentration, the better (I used 90 deg).
Take the battery out first !!!
Effectively, you drop a few drops of alcohol inside (yes, inside!) the phone through the small cracks around the power button. I used a pipette but dipping cotton in alcohol and then squeezing also works. Don't worry about dropping to many drops of alcohol ... it dries very quickly. I then blew in- and shook the phone strongly (this was important) to make the liquid advance a bit inside and also to dry it. You then need to leave the phone to dry. You can speed that up if yo put it under a desk lamp.
All solved now. Power button now works fine. What happened probably was that humidity/water created a short circuit, giving the same result as keeping the power button pressed.
If the above doesn't do the trick, you can try to unscrew the plastic shield that covers the button, remove the external button and access the real micro-mechanical button that is soldered onto a very small pcb. You give that one a good clean, rubbing it generously with a small piece of cloth dipped in alcohol. You can also try scratching the surface between the button's soldered pins since that's where a short circuit probably formed in the first place.
Hope you fix it.

Thanks a lot for the help. This is why xda is such a great forum. From this I worked out it is the power switch and after playing with it and seems to be working on for now. If the prob happens again I'll try the alcohol trick above.

[Q] Where to get GNex's motherboard? Or in my case, do I need one? Details inside...

Hello Nexans,
Long story short:
I was applying SGP's flex to my phone yesterday. Too much water maybe, my phone started acting weird after installation, really dimmed display, touch screen not registering touch, and etc.
So I opened up the phone per ifixit's instruction, attempting to see if there's really any water in there so I can dry the components up.
At the time of opening it up, didn't notice any water at all, while the screen still remains not responding. At the end, the phone finally failed to boot (white Google screen looping). So I put everything back on, and finally leave it looping on my desk while I went out trying to have some fun in order to blow away this Saturday night sadness.
Magically, when I returned home after ~5 hrs, the phone is in the system and the touch screen works perfectly again. Also, the screen is showing images normally again. I happily went to bed with my phone.
This [sad] morning, volume button won't work. Opened it up, found that the volume switch (which was soldered onto the mobo) was ripped off (probably by careless me). Refer to this pic here. EDIT: sorry I still can't post outside link.
Here's the image: guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/2k6S4vvKPZh2IsB2.huge
Now I'm left alone: the phone is a imported GSM, seemingly not supported by anyone in the U.S. right now. Moreover, since the volume switch is soldered onto the mobo, and I am very sure I will ruin the phone if I try to re-solder the switch onto the mobo (it's some finest soldering on there), not to mention that the Cable Ribbon of the volume switch seems to be ruined as well, I think my only option is to get a totally new mobo that has volume switch soldered onto it.
To summarize:
1.Do I need a new mobo, if I find no one to help me repair the phone?
2.Where can I get a new mobo? (searched on eBay w/o results)
3.Will changing the mobo affect anything? I assume the data and system would be lost, but how about the identity of my phone?
4.If there's one agent in the U.S. that you think would take care of this uncostly (~$100?), who would you refer? Maybe Verizon, Samsung, or someone else?
5.If all of the above attempts fail at the end, I'll be considering selling it at a deep discount to someone who's got his way of restoring this phone, where would you recommend for me to go find such a talented Nexus lover? Will eBay fulfill this purpose the best?
Finally, thanks for you, the fellow members, for your help in advance. I hate myself for opening up the phone, now, thinking that the phone may have recovered for good w/o being opened up by me. Now that it has recovered with a broken volume switch in its body, making this issue much more complicated
Again, thanks...
shoulda turned off the phone right after it started acting funky and put it in a bag a rice
it sounds like you jumped the gun and opened the phone prematurely. How long did you wait to open up the phone after you installed the screen guard?
As far as your situation, I would probably cut my losses, get what I can out of it on eBay and buy another one.

Should have I also shouldve stayed with a dry apply film. Being a perfectionist, I almost knew I would ruin the phone by over spraying the application solution for a easier and better application

Actually, immediately. I didn't know the gaps around the glass screen is also the entrance for the water to get into the phone. I thought only headset speaker could let some water into it. After disassembled the phone, I realized that the water can easily get into the phone thru the gap, which leads the water right onto the mobo underneath the glass... Again, I didn't notice any water inside the phone, but i could be just moisture that's playing some nasty game here. I also did some intensive swing and tossing of the phone to get water out, until there's no water coming out.
Anyhow, I just went to Verizon store, and they said they wouldn't touch anything GSM, and said the only option for me seems to contact Samsung. Or as you said, I could sell it on eBay. Don't know how much it's worth though
I had to open up my Gnex last week because i dropped it in a puddle of water while getting out of my car...
If i remember correctly, the vol rocker is glued to the internal part that comes out with the screen and most of the electronics, so i cant imagine how you would have torn it off...
Its connectected to the main pcb via a connector though, sure you didn't just unplug the connector??
You could also try to go without the volume rocker, use some kind of widget for volume control, not ideal but cheaper than a new Gnex
Ooo, I'm sorry for both of us...
Yes, the volume switch is double-side taped, but the other end (the cable ribbon itself) is soldered onto the back of the mobo in my phone. I don't know how or what force ripped it off of the mobo. The cable ribbon is torn pretty harshly... I'll upload a pic when I make past the 10 posts and "unlock all capabilities"..
Also, did you notice any "sequela" after the incident? Does your phone function good now? There's time that on my phone the touch screen does not respond/register touch anymore suddenly. I usually just leave it standby with screen off. Usually, after 1+ hr, when I turn the screen back on, the touchscreen works fine...
Driving me crazy, this bad luck.
Guys,
Here's another issue... How do I get into fastboot mode if my volume rockers don't work..?
Tried Toolkit V4.1 and it keeps saying waiting for device..

Install the app called quickboot, it lets u go direcrly into recovery or bootloader without holding volume keys.
Thank you sir, I'll give it a try!
OOPS.. I'm not rooted...so it's a no-go
Hey cswithxda, have you found a way to fix it without replacing the mobo?
I live in Brazil, a friend of mine brought one bought at Negri electronics at US for me. It suffered an accident (part of it involves someone pushing down a window over it) and the screen cracked.
I've sent it back to Negri for RMA Repair to fix the screen and they did it, but before shipping back, found that the volume buttons weren't working. They canceled the shipment and found out that the volume cable was broken (the screen crack was near to the volume buttons, so I guess it wasn't them that broke it while fixing the screen).
Well, I've actually paid for the screen repair and ship back, but they claim that their repair facility was unable to fix the volume... any light over this?

Sorry I can't help buddy, at the time I owned the device, it was still pretty new, so I couldn't find a source that actually sells GNex motherboard. I think the only way to fix a ripped rocker button is to replace mobo if you don't find anywhere to solder it for you.
Important part is this, for whoever got the chance, buy it from Amazon! The rep was kind enough to issue me an RMA after knowing my ripped volume rocker is my own fault, and while I was actually trying to ask him about where to send it to fix. They just gave me an RMA and let me send it back and get anything else I want. Amazon customer service another miracle!

[Bandaid Fix] Boot looping due to power button

First and foremost, you attempt this at your own risk and I am not responsible for what happens to your device. This saved me from buying a new phone when I had an unidentifiable and persistent black screen/boot loop
Symptoms you are boot looping due to your power button sticking:
1. Black screen with intermittent vibrating
2. Phone restarts during boot animation
3. Unable to enter recovery before phone restarts
4. Unable to enter download mode before restart
5. USB JIG forces phone into download mode and restart occurs
6. Phone turns on when battery is inserted
This fix will only work if the button is STUCK and not defective. Remove back cover and battery. Remove the 6 screws on the back of the phone and gently pry the housing off.

After that, find the power button. Using a small flat head screwdriver gently push the button cover away from the mechanical button and try to press the mechanical button in to see if you can still feel it "click". After that, reassembled and test. Hope it works for you too.
Hey buddy, I want to thank you for your guide.
I followed it every step, but unfortunately I was not able to fix my phone.
It still loops every time I press on the power button.
It might be a hardware failure.
Not sure what else to do.
Help!!!!
If this didn't work, get the button replaced. I got mine fixed by mobiletechvideos for 35 plus shipping
save this for furture use thanks
my buttons were sticking ( power button and volume down ) to on my phone , it got to the point where the power button was no longer working and my phone was out of warranty. I just decided to take phone apart and disassemble it and then i located the power button and used some " CRC QD Electronic Cleaner " and just sprayed it (using the straw that CRC comes with) directly into the power button (when i say "spray" i mean i pushed the spray button for about 1 second). After spraying it i pressed the button like 20 times, then i sprayed some more and while spraying (spray for 1 second) i was pushing the button about another 20-30 times. I repeated the spray and push cycle about 10 times (which means i probably pressed the power button over 300 times ), I waited about 5 mins to make sure it was "dry" and then i put the battery back in and test it and It seemed to have cleaned it out and now my power button worked. Then i put everything back together.
Note: I tried to spray and press it with the phone with the enclosure/case/body on but the button cover blocks the actual button and i was forced to actually disassemble the case, its not to hard just looks intimidating. whole process took me about 45 mins first time.
Note 2: CRC QD Electronic Cleaner can also be found at most local auto parts stores BE SURE TO GET THAT BRAND as it is non-conductive, i repeat GET THAT EXACT BRAND/MODEL Cleaner, cheaper brands might be conductive despite it saying it is safe or does not dry as fast and who knows what might happen, CRC is a known well brand and has a good rep)

this trick was the one that worked!:good:
so after giggling and wiggling ... spraying and pushing ... (none of which worked)
I went back to the Nintendo standby .. blow at the port ... go figure ... i guess something got stuck in the USB port kept making my phone reboot lol
Thanks for the help all!!!!
Ugh..any other suggestions?? I can't believer they are considering this ISER damage! This is my third one. First one had powerbutton issue, replacement had a screen issue where it look like water was on the screen... Two months later is one has power button issue.. This is some bs.
OMG!! You just saved my phone (and my wallet!!) Thank You so much!!
I made this account just so I could give my 2 cents here. I was having random reboot problems with my sgs2 and it would vibrate on a black screen after rebooting etc. I took the back casing off by taking out screws and prying off plastic backing and just hit the power button with an air can while pressing the power button and voila, now my phone isnt having the issue anymore. Thought id have to replace the button but it seemed to be working fine so i thought id try the air can first. Thanks everyone for pointing me in the direction of it being the power button, wouldnt have guessed that myself.
Mine was still clicking. Kinda took it upon myself to do this and I also sent mine to Mobile Tech videos. The service he offered was great but a bit confusing

I have two hercules and first one which is about 10 months old started having power button problem(infinite boot loop) in Last November.
At first, I kinda clicked it ^well to let it boot to ics but as soon as I press the power to wake up screen or shut off the screen the phone would restart n go into boot looop.
So I tried not to use the power button at all but it got to a point where it was unusable. So I opened it up and cleaned he inside but it didn't help. So I decided to send it off to mobiltechvideo.
But one day, it just dissapeared completely. I mean I suffered so muh from this yet it is gone and I can't even simulate the bootloop now.
I am thinking its not electrical problem due to chip in the button go bad but rather physical problem.
Perhaps tiny particle or dust getting into ppwer button module causing the boot loop.

After trying many different things, including opening it up, air can, etc. I sent my phone back to T-Mobile. They made me upgrade from stock GB to ICS first though insisting it was a GB issue. New phone works perfect... you shouldn't even need insurance to do this as its a defect not broken by user.

I tried to take it to the T-mobile store and they said since I didnt have insurance nothing could be done. I am so pissed at them since I have been with them for over 8 years and never had any issues with phones. What exactly did you tell them? I tried all the fixes and my phone just does not want to stay on. I even took it to a cell phone repair shop and they were completely useless. Told me that it was a software issue. I am on stock iCS just rooted.
may be the power button is dead
i shipped to mobiletechvideos for 35 plus shipping (found in ebay)
hoop he can fix it by replace a new power button

I had the same problem but on the att version. There was a cable/wire that had a clip on the end that was loose. I just made sure it was well connected and it stopped rebooting. Total cost $0. Really easy fix, no need to send it any where.

No Boot/Odd Behavior after Screen Replacement

Hey all, so I just replaced the screen (followed the great guide on this site) and now I'm getting some odd behavior when trying to boot.
The power button is completely unresponsive. When I plug the phone into power, the LG screen comes up for ~3 seconds, as normal. The LED is flashing thru all the colors per the usual as well. Then the screen goes black for another 3 seconds, all the while the LED flashing. Then LG pops up again just for a moment, then to the normal phone-is-off-but-charging screen, with the LED flashing red.
Really don't know what to make of this. I had it rooted with a one-click root from here. The only changes were deleting stock apps and enabling the front touch keys (but never had an issue with it booting after this, I did that at least a week ago). Also my PC recognizes that something is plugged in, so I guess that's good.
Thoughts?
Update: tried booting into recovery mode, I held the buttons for much longer than normal to no response. As soon as I let go, I get the LG screen. Then black. Then LG. Then an unusually long AT&T screen, then it booted. Now the power button works as it should, and it boots in that same odd fashion. And it seems that I can not go into recovery. Yikes.
I'd be fine with that except I have a dead zone across the lower portion of the screen, it's about a half inch tall and about covers the asdfgh... row of the keyboard. Weirdly if I start pressing on any other key and then swipe to any area in the "dead" zone it WILL register, as in, I can select the S key, normally in the dead zone, but swiping to it from a working area. Will try soaking the mobo in alcohol and swabbing the digitzer connector with a q-tip. Any other thoughts?
Update 2: I tried cleaning the contacts of the digitzer connection- both the end of the cable and the motherboard connection- with rubbing alcohol. Reassembled, and we're back to square one. Power button unresponsive, when plugged in I'll get the LG screen, then black, then the LG screen will flash and I'll get the chargining screen. But now, trying to boot into recovery mode does nothing. So then I soaked the mobo in alcohol, and cleaned ALL the contacts and ribbon cables on the frame. Reassembled, no change. I really hope someone sees this, as I'm at he end of my tech know-how. Tonight I'll try to reconnect my old touchscreen and see what happens. Maybe the new one is just defective? But you'd think the phone would still turn on...
God I hope somebody sees this. I feel like a complete nut talking to myself.

Okay sounds like a hardware issue with the power button being unresponsive. I would take the device apart look around all connections of the power button and look for any hair line cracks or dirty, sticky, grimmy connections. Try cleaning upall that stuff, while there I would look at the digitizer and clean that up. When done flash a new rom with the LG flash tool, allow boot and reboot normally several times before testing. I hope this helps I am new to the phone and have yet to get my repair kit for it so I will not know much more about it till I get into it myself. Hair line cracks can be easily fixed as long as its on the sadder areas. Just re sadder it

Now for the weird flashing on and off booting mine does this as well but all functions regardless are working flawlessly. My phone will need serious structural repairs but nothing I can't do just had a horrible owner. Definitely worth the trouble this thing runs so smooth better than any other I have used and it will continue to hold for a couple years cause of the power behind it. I wouldn't worry about the booting flashing like that I'm just thinking it does this to show it has been tampered with.

Hey man thanks for your reply. Reminded me to update this for anyone else who finds it.
So the new screen was definitely defective. The one time I managed to get it on there was a dead spot. I sent it back, a replacement is on its way.
Now the good news- I realized why my phone wouldn't boot. Turns out that when removing the motherboard, the top part of it got a little... bent. Nothing bad, nothing permanent, but when I mounted back onto the housing, the top part of it had a tendency to stick up a little bit. Well if you follow the small ribbon cable off the power button, it leads to two gold contacts. Sure enough on on the bottom side of the motherboard there are two nodes that would press against the contacts.
Basically, the power button wasn't even connected to the board.
So I actually put the whole thing together, screws and all, and with that, the motherboard sits snugly as it should and the button works fine.
Right now my phone is some sort of hacked up zombie, with a cracked up screen, an upper-left corner that's completely decimated/missing, and no adhesive to hold it together. Hopefully the screen makes it here soon!
Oh and I agree totally, this is the smoothest and most reliable Android I've owned, better than the Evo 3D (which I quite liked) and a GS3 (meh, it got very unreliable after a year). I'm happy the screen replacement is cheap and easy so I can keep this thing for at least another year.
Cool glad it worked out for you or hopefully will. Can you do me a solid once your screen comes in and if it replaced well all working that is could you post the site you got it on or pm me with it. I am here tons of issues with defective screens. Would like to have a reliable market to shop from.

I have never had a bad part for any kind of phone from Wholesale Gadget Parts in Bixby, OK (Tulsa area). I found them on Amazon and originally ordered because they were close and I was in a hurry. I kept ordering because they get it right. I have about a 50/50 success rate with phone parts off other sellers on Amazon. If you buy cheap, expect a high failure rate.
Glass and digitizer for G Pro is about $18 before shipping and any applicable tax.

Mi Max Prime, unstable (on MIUI v8.2.3)

Hello everyone,
i recently purchased Mi Max Prime (Helium, 128GB, India). without exploring the phone much, i updated the ROM to v8.2.3 at the first notification i got of update (which was soon after purchasing). since then, facing a myriad of issues:
1. random freezing - this issue was there even prior updating.....the phone would freeze when the OS would ask about app-permissions (to access contacts, photos, etc.); after updating, it has become less pronounced, but seems to have increased in playstore, esp. when attempting to download any app.
2. random shutdown - it would so happen that if i press the power button to turn the screen off, or even if the screen dims off after inactivity, many-a-times the phone would simply shut down. at that time, i have to keep the power button pressed for a longer time to boot the phone, than is normally reqd.
3. apps sometime take long moments to respond. happens sometimes even when flicking homescreens or when in settings.
all these have been happening frequently, making it a frustrating experience.
has anybody faced similar issues? previously i was thinking of taking it to the service centre, but then read some posts here wherein people had written that it ultimately proved futile, and changing the ROM to a custom one would be a better recourse, and that ROMs like PureNexus, RR, etc. are MUCH better than MIUI.
could somebody pls suggest about this?
TIA!
either flash a new official rom with full wipe Or try a custom rom!
Offical rom doesn't have any performance issues I think you better take it to service center.
Have the Helium 64GB on the EU rom, do experience some apps taking awhile to respond and on the rear occasion phone froze. But not to the point of it being a bother.

thanks for your replies.
as a prelim measure, seems sensible to take it to the service centre and ask them first. if that doesnt help, will then surely install a custom ROM. am lamenting for not having checked the phone earlier. i got it from amazon but because of some simcard-woes, i delayed testing the phone & had kept using my older phone for some days, and now amazon product-return window is closed. so no alternative other than taking it to the serv centre.
hi guys,
i took the phone to the service centre y'day. the reply i got doesnt exactly bolster confidence in me. i was told that the OS would've to be upgraded as you are facing software-issues. i then told them that i already have the latest global ROM, OS v8.2.3. i was then told that you downloaded it from the 'internet', while we at the service centre currently dont have this version. we'll be getting it in the next week here, & then you bring the phone to us, we'll re-install the said version through OTA, 'properly'.
now am highly wary if that'll help at all. what do you say? should i simply install a custom ROM now, or go there & give what i was told a try?

so as i was expecting, the service centre still havent got the global ROM v8.2.3 with them. wont waste time about this anymore. will test the phone for a day or two come the weekend, and then install a custom ROM. thanks for the replies y'all!

Mimax Helium Random Shutdown at 80+% Battery Charge
My phone shuts down randomly on a full charge and it all began when I sat down with the phone in my back pocket. The case curved and it just began behaving badly.
I bought a new aluminium back from eBay and power button ribbon because it did not power on when pressed many times. This did not help much, but it was cool have a straight shiny new case and fully functioning power button.
Annoyed, I took the phine apart and realized that the battery ribbon was coming loos whenever the phone was bumped ever so slightly because the battery was moving around in the phone. Furthermore, the screws holding the metallic plate over the main board had thread out. Thus, it's was not holding the ribbon in place. Note, you will know that it is a poor battery to main board connection problem if you apply pressure connection and the phone start when the power button is pressed and dies as soon as the pressure is released.
To fixed the threaded out screws, I place a dab of crazy glue into each screw hole. To apply pressure on the battery to main circuit boards ribbon connection, precut a small piece of cardboard and attach it to the back of the battery ribbon where it attached to the main board with a speck of crazy glue to hold it in place. Then quickly replace the metallic plate on to the main board with the screws before the crazy glue in the screw holes dry completely.
To keep the battery from moving around in the phone I placed a speck of glue from my hot glue gun on perimeter of the battery to secure it in place. I then realized assembeled the phone and gave it a full charge.
Realizing that the problem could also be related to an outdated rom, I downloaded the latest rom and flashed it. Then, I came across a firmware update project on xda at https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....elopment/firmware-xiaomi-mi-max-t3741655/amp/ so I flashed that on to the phone too.
As of this posting, the phone has been running without issue for the past 48hrs. Hope this helps, because I was actually dreaming about smashing this phone with a hammer. Now I love it again ?
