[Q] No custom ROMs for this device? - Galaxy Note 3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Peeps,
I have been an Android user since Nexus One itself but never stumbled upon a phone without any ROMs except this one. Am I missing out something? Why aren't they in development?
Please do let me know if they exist cause I was thinking about taking the initiative of making one.

There are no roms under development I think so..... So u should go for it ??

What the good news this morning... go for it dude! we'll support you... and don't forget for LTE model also...

I think so. No AOSP Rom for Note 3 Neo up to now although its was issued 4 months ago . I like the design, S-Pen, battery life, price and its performance but I have never seen any hi-end deviced before with no both custom ROM and recovery like it (N750 - hl3gxx).
I think we have to wait or study to build myself . I have just bought a second-hand Nexus 5 to feel 4.4.3 Rom beside N750.:laugh:

A new Samsung Galaxy W user

I am happy to see the Galaxy W has at least separate section on XDA, although its in Low 'Activity Devices' but if we keep it going then soon it will be on 'Current Devices'.
I recently bought the Galaxy W and now playing with its feature. In most of the areas i found it fantastic but it lags some of the things.
In the coming days I will be posting here. I hope this section will grow soon with plenty of custom ROMs.
In past I was the HTC fan and used many Android based models but now i have switched to Samsung completely.
Thanks
I bought mine last week too. It's actually my first experience owning a smartphone but I'm perfectly happy with it. Thought it'd lag a bit more but instead it's as fast as I could hope. Of course, TUXBrother's OC custom ROM helps in that regard^^
I'd also like this section to grow some more, as I feel this is quite the underappreciated device. Bring on more custom ROMs!
My second android phone
Hi,
I bought one for my wife 3 day ago, she likes it, and my opinion is that besides the screen and the size its not much different than my SGSII.
I think this is a really good middle range phone, perhaps the price should be a bit lower
Magorgoth
For Php16k (I dunno how much this is in your currency), I can't ask for anything more. It's snappy especially right after applying all the tweaks, the body/screen size is big enough to still remain pocket-friendly, and the screen is bright enough. It can run almost anything it's big brother can, except for those HD games which obviously requires a better GPU.
i bought mine 2 months ago, and never regret it, actually this my 1st smartphone and im glad i pick a good 1

no kidding .. i drop my SGW on a hard cement and it didnt even scratch my phone .. i thought she was a gonner but when i check it .. it just reboot and still kick ass !!! love this **** !!
just bought this SGW yesterday, china version,..everything just fine till i found that it doesn't have market place apps pre-installed on it..
been trying to install manually...install is OK, but when creating new account, it always exit...(
the worst part is...this china version is S$50 more expensive compare to singapore price..
now i'm thinking about updating the firmware with other version (region)....
Which firmware do you have installed on?
China Firmware should be the I8150ZSLA2 version. If it's still on warranty, try going to the samsung service centre in your area. It is of course your choice whether doing that or to reflash using another stock rom

Can I do that? i mean asking service cnter to reflash with another version that include market app..
I just thought this is the rule in china...not to include google related thing..
I don't think Samsung Service Center would do a reflash, If they can't solve the problem, you could reflash it yourself. In my country there are some people using ZSLA Firmware (Taiwan CSC), and none of them reported market failure. Might as well check on your firmware version (settings -> about phone, look for baseband version)

Google Edition, i9505, and Tmo-Variant Question.

Hello fellas. I have a question.
Gave away My n4 to my girl and got a free S4 from T-mobile about a day or two ago.. Yay. Rooted and flashed CM 10.2 and loving the phone but i do have a question;
Now i know Google sells the GE Edition S4 But i don't see a difference in our version and theirs besides obviously running Stock and has easy root. But once our device is rooted, essentially don't we have a GE S4? I mean running the GE Roms should be pretty easy since its the same device? Also, i've been reading around and noticed that alot of people from our forum have been flashing roms meant for the unlocked (i9505) S4. We can run any rom from that forum? i know our devices are different processor wise (exynos) but can we just flash their roms willy nilly, and change the APNs to run our LTE and we are good to go? Excited to essentially know that i can Run 4.4 kitkat when it arrives in a few months if this is the case. Got jealous when i saw a glimpse of the N5 and 4.4

There are quite a few threads here both asking and explaining that yes, we can flawlessly run ROMs for other variants. Meaning yes; if you want to run a ROM from the i9505 section, go right ahead. If you like the way an AT&T ROM looks, flash it. When you mention the Exynos CPU, please note that the Exynos is the i9500 and flashing any ROM from that section will brick. i9505 = safe. i9500 = NO NO. The best thing to remember when flashing other variant's ROMs is to use a kernel for your device. Don't worry if you forget to flash your kernel, you're not gonna do any damage, you just won't be able to boot; just wipe, re-flash, and remember your kernel this time.
And before the question gets asked, no you can't do a full GPe conversion. You CAN use the CWM-flashable ROMs, but as far as totally converting, using the pit, GPe stock recovery, and receiving OTA updates... the answer is no.
Not trying to sound like a douche nozzle here, so if I came off that way, I apologize. It's just that this info has already been covered in depth.

Quick, easy to the point answer. Love it thanks man. Just I've been on the Nexus phones and devices for a while and just needed a refresher on flashing different variants. To be honest I did search some threads a little more in depth after posting and found these answers, so my apologies for that. Thanks again though man.

MAN tell me about it. So how are you liking your S4? I love this thing so far. Just need to find a case on amazon, was honestly looking for maybe a bumper case but I haven't found one yet. Boy I can't wait for that Samsung galaxy gear watch to come out, would be perfect with this phone. Hopefully I won't have to go back to touchwiz though :victory:. Impatiently waiting for kitkat and the reveal of the N5, which if is in the same price point of the n4, I will be getting as well.

The truth? It's only my 2nd Android phone, so I can't really speak from very much Android experience, but so far it's a beast. I got an Otterbox Defender the day I got the phone and it's spent maybe 10 minutes out of the case... it adds a little more bulk, but I also cracked my old phone's screen twice while going caseless; I can live with a little more bulk.
On TouchWiz; it's really astounded me. My previous phone, I used everything BUT stock; something about the S4 though, I can't stay away from TouchWiz. The same can be said for the other ROMs as well though. My ROM folder on my SD card is over 10GB and I constantly swap between them.

why has touchwiz rom development grinded to such a slow pace?

pardon me if this had been asked recently. while the roms out there are top notch, I feel like im getting bored. why is there never new roms or updates? is it because we still have 4.1.2?
I bought this phone because its the greatest phone for me. battery life. size. power. etc. thought it would be one of the better supported.
dont get me wrong. I love the rom im using. its flawless. so I shouldnt complain. but it also has a feature to use torch on lockscreen by pushing the home button. love it. but I cant find it as an add on. so im stuck on this rom.
and im nervous about aosp roms. I love them. I really do. but battery life decreased by about 50% during the week I had an aosp rom installed. so im partial to touchwiz.
I have a great set up now. its just discouraging to think people are giving up on the note 2. which imo is still the best phone you can buy. not over the top on specs but good enough. huge battery. screen res that is not beyond what my eyes can see. and a cpu that doesnt have to blsze at 50 million mhz to run the phone and every app I need. enough ram. etc
This is the same song-and-dance that Samsung has displayed since they started making flagship Androids. They promise timely updates, and not a single one of their phones has ever received an update that can even be conceived of as "timely."
The way Samsung treats their customer base is exactly why TW ROM development has grinded to a halt. People are sick of it. There is nothing new that can be done/added to 4.1.2, so TW devs are waiting for 4.3 to drop (if and when it ever does) to resume TW development.

Or, the devs have done as much as possible with what's been released of TW thus far.
To the OP: The pinnacle has been achieved. Go forth and use your phone and not be bothered by the lack of dev lately: there's nothing left to do until more TW is released by Samsung
-----
Tips for a pleasant XDA:
Search before asking. Someone has likely already asked.
Spell your words completely, and use punctuation. It confuses people when you use "u" and "ur" and "dat", or when you wrongly use "there/their/they're/your/you're".
Be nice. Don't be rude, just move on to another post without leaving a comment. We are not 7 years old.
And PLEASE, do not ask for the "best" anything. We all have our preferences.

Agreed my HTC one went from 4.1.2 to 4.2 to 4.3 already while my note 2 has yet to get an update.
That is sad lol
We should not complain. This is nothing compared to the wait i had to endure with my x10
Because AOKP rules and I get over 6 hours of screen on time with the stock battery/kernel
You said your nervous about AOSP roms because of the battery drain......I was always told the Rom needs to settle and drain all the way down and charge all the way up a couple of times before it settles and you will see the buttery smooth stuff....lol...(Great Battery Life)
Once a month, I let my battery completely die and charge it all the way up (while phone is off)....
I have great battery life on all the roms I try. I can make my phone last 4 days doing regular stuff most of the time before a charge...
I do always come back to Jedi X19....Its just more my type. Beanstock, PACMAN, and others are good too...I just have better experiences with multiple apps while working with TW roms. On the other hand, all the customization you can do with an AOSP rom is insane and I miss it......
To each is own......Battery life sucks on stock roms...Even with freezing apps, its nothing compared to a custom rooted rom.

4.3 TW rom for the Note 2 should be out in a month or so. Development will increase again since they will actually have something new to work with. Unless you are looking for a TW rom that gets updated weekly and the only changes made is the style/size/color of the font.
AOSP development tends to slowdown (almost to a halt) everytime a new version release draws near, as developers don't want to spend countless hours making a new feature that might very well not work in the new version. Once the source code is out development will skyrocket for AOSP devices, while our forum may take a few additional weeks to actually start seeing any action.
Last, I don't consider this device to be stale and dead, I just think that it's in a limbo of some sort. Since I only run AOSP roms I'm not mad at Samsung support, but I am very intrigued of the way samsung has ingnored it's MOST EXPENSIVE phone. I really expected a lot more from them. But as I said I'm runnig 4.3 (AOKP) and I'm extremely happy with my Note 2. Don't see any other device out there that would make me ditch the Note 2. (well maybe I'm a little curious of the Oppo N1).

Custom ROM - What Do I Need to Know

Hello Guys,
I am a new guy to Android, in the sense I have been using it since May! I am starting to experiment with the possibilities now that I understand my S4 fairly well, and I ditched my iPad for this tablet!
Well, I have absolutely adored having Hyperdrive on my S4 and I am thankful to all of the folks over there who made that happen. My question to you folks is what will it take to get a custom ROM as high quality as HyperDrive (if not hyperdrive itself!) on my 10.1 2014 Tablet?
I understand a root is needed and we are waiting on a custome recovery for our device? What else will I need? Can we use ROM's made for other devices or is that a terrible idea? I am excited for the future and I thank you all for your help!!

Never use a rom for a different device. We need a recovery first and foremost. After that we a need a developer to get the device and work some magic.

Thanks for the helpful info! I'll take it easy then, and continue to monitor on the developments of recovery and roms for this current software!
Thanks!
I just got the galaxy tab 2014 edition as well, and have a galaxy s3. I got into customizing my s3 and am excited about doing the same on this tablet. Even if it was just to remove bloat ware. (The program Knox uses 170 megabytes constantly.) Don't get me wrong the tablet is as quick as it needs to be but I'm used to my s3 being instant and can't wait to optimize this thing. Im hoping synergyrom and hyperdrive will be the ones to release something soon. 2500x1600 screen resolution by the way, very nice.

Android 5.0 source is out!

Who will do the honours and compile an AOSP ROM for T999?
Doc Holiday where are you now?
or even a touchwiz ROM of S5 or S4 I love touchwiz..
I am also looking forward to this, however patience will be our friend. It's weeks like this one that make me want to learn how to write custom ROMs in their entirety myself. When I'm out of school I am totally going to learn to make ROMs!

I highly doubt we will ever see a TW lollipop rom for our devices, our phone has become highly unpopular and most devs are gone. We are lucky we got a taste of kitkat since our device's sisters received the update and they all run the same processor. We are gonna have to settle with vanilla lollipop roms.

We are lucky we got a taste of kitkat since our device's sisters received the update and they all run the same processor. We are gonna have to settle with vanilla lollipop roms.

Don't feel bad, our phone is still a good device. Since our device has many variants (one for each carrier) our only hope would be if any devs from the other variants work on their devices and one of our devs port those roms to us, similar to what happened with the kitkat roms. I'm not changing my phone anytime soon, it handles everything I throw at it. Or device was ahead of its time, similar to many vintage sports cars lol

This is why I picked S3 .. I heard S4 was such a battery hogg with its air gesture sensors and stuff.. and S5 was too expensive for me at this stage.
Read last night about Lollipop's better access to removable storage and I'm starting to think I'd rather skip KK altogether.
If only we could get wifi calling on 5.0 :silly:

I totally agree. The S3 was ahead of it's time and I'm starting to see a 3year ledgendary device trend with Samsung. Word is, the S6 will be grand. Propabaly I'll see it fit to upgrade then. I prefer Vanilla ROMs though, so I will be looking forward to AOSP, AOKP and CM build of Android 5.0. I can see some gorgeously awesome themes for Android 5.0 new material design with the theme engine so no Touchwiz for me
I would pay if it came to that for someone to make a 5.0 build! I don't have much, but I'd be desperate for animation galore and prettiness!

They apparently have it for the SIII Mini, I doubt we will be far behind.

Really? Got a link to it?..... Never mind. Found it http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/development/rom-aosp-lollipop-preview-t2931716 ..... It's a WIP but if S3 mini running it smoothly, it would be grand on this device.
Anyone interested in building a port?
There's a post in the at&t Samsung Galaxy s3 original android development for cm12 running lollipop 5.0. I flashed it on my t999 and it works great. Just follow the flashing instructions and flash all the files they say to flash. Your welcome. The topic is labeled cyanogenmod 12. It's build 4.

Side note... You will get a /data error while flashing but ignore that because it flashes after that error. First boot takes a long time. Some had to factory reset after flash or battery pull during first boot. I had to go back into recovery and factory reset but booted afterwards. Took almost 10 minutes to boot. But running it now and it works great for an alpha build.

I agree with what your saying about 3 year legendary device. The S3 is very well built, like the Vibrant. So my guess is, S6, if there's going to be one, will be as final of the S4 - S5 experiments.
