How can I get 4.4.2 kit kat install on a note 8 SGH I467 - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Here is my short story.
My mom and I went into a AT&T store to update my phone in March 20014. I was carrying around an old iPhone 4s and I was well over due for an update. I updated to the Galaxy note 3 and I surly Love it!! I haven't been able to put it down for some time and there was a little bit of an update for my phone. I went from 4.3 to 4.4. My mom was curiosity about the whole android thing, and wanted to try one of their devices out, so the sales guy sold here a note 8 sha-i467 tablet. I wasn't expecting this additional purchase, so I didn't do any kind of hard research on tablets, other than I want something that had both smart phone and tablet size features, and I found that for my update.
Sadly, my mom ended up hating this tablet Calling it a piece of S***. This was due to a number of bugs and slow speed of the OS on this device. It currently has1 jelly bean 4.1 versions.
I have been trying in vein to find some way to update this phone to the 4.4.2 version. I don't care if it's legal, and I don't care about voiding that warranty. I just want 4.4.2 on that tablet...
On the side of our frustration, I think AT&T sold us a product that is being dropped soon. There is has such a low demand for this product that they wont release an update for this model. I now loathe AT&T for Delivering such crappy service. All they want to do is push products around and make a huge buck off of people who don't like their service. The discontinue of our service with the tablet will now cost us a $150.00 fee.
I'm not happy with At&t, they disrespected my mom by taking advantage of our lack knowledge with the line of products. I would gladly paid for the higher price items if It would had avoided this problem.

There is not yet a 4.4.2 from Samsung for the 5120 which is the LTE version although the wifi and 3G version (5100 and 5110) have been out for a couple of weeks. However there are differences that prevent us from using those stock ROMs. Your i467 and my i467M (Canada) are rare and not well supported even for a 4.2.2 ROM.
I've been told that the 5120 4.2.2 ROM will not work on our phones, and that when 4.4.2 Kitkat comes out for the 5120 (maybe a month) it will not work on our phones. I was going try the stock 4.2.2 from the UK and then flashing the Rogers radio from my i467M, but I've been told that its more than the radio. Ive been told it could brick my ROM.
Unless some good developer takes up this project its not going to happen. There were too few of these sold.

Root is possible, but no unlocked bootloader=no custom recovery=no custom ROM=you're stuck on 4.1.2

You are right, he has the AT&T, not the Rogers. At least the Rogers has no locked bootloader.

AT&T SUCKS note 8 still doesn't have 4.4.2
OMG it's been months and not even a hack to force install 4.4.2 in this tablet? This blows. Can anyone show me a way to use kitkat on this device. I still can't believe no one has release 4.4.2 and now they are about to release 4.4.4 on all of the latest devices. I will forever hate AT&T forever!!

how to install OTA manually ??????????????????????????

SAMSUNG SGH-I467 doesn't have ROM to install
AT&T is not very kind

ATT may have done the same thing with the i467 that they did with the i747 in that updates frlom 4.1.1 were only available via OTA updates. A complete ROM was never released.
The only way to get to KK, assuming the OTA is still available, would be to flash back to stock 4.1.2 and run the software update option. If the tablet has a 4.3 or newer bootloader, I don't think you can downgrade to 4.1.2.

Dear members,
I have compiled the kernel for SGH-i467 from the kitkat open source (haven't tried installing it, though).

Hi, thanks but you do realize that this thread hasn't been touched since 2015 right?
Anyways, we don't need to append https, if I just copy/paste the link in chrome, it can add it by itself.

It IS a confirmation that the Galaxy S 3 will get Kit Kat. I never claimed that it was a confirmation that our Galaxy S 3's will get Kit Kat.

Woo!
Yeah, pretty sure it's going to get Kitkat. Even if it doesn't officially, there are always roms haha.
I hope its something to "wow" us. I mean, my friend received his update on his GN3 and he noticed a great battery life and just a bit more snappy. It was something like a 500mb download so it had to be more features. I'm wondering if we're going to get something like that or a whole new TW maybe. By the time we get the update the GS5 will be out.
Do not expected the new TW interface, the S3 will never see the new tw interface from an official update. Would probably see improvements in wifi connection, bluetooth connection, perhaps some tweaking to settings and under the armor updates from 4.4.2
We will for sure get the new update as the S3 counts for a lot of the samsung units sold aroung the world
OK folks, lets take this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639286 for focused discussion in one thread. Thanks

[Q] Note 4 or Note 4 Developer Edition?

Hello all,
I am fine with either, although I do plan on rooting and installing a custom rom on the note 4 (that is when one comes out?)
I am just concerned that the Verizon Note 4 will be better in the long run, rather than the Developer Edition. I assume the Verizon variant will get more future support.
BUT I think just the Developer Edition has been rooted at the moment.
So any input to which device I should get?
Not sure this is even a debate. There is a reasonable chance the retail version will never even get rooted, and if it does on 4.4.4 there is not guarantee that the root will stick with an upgrade to 5.0.

I think you answered your own question. If you want a custom recovery and root then you're going to have to go to the Developer Edition. If I had to bet, I'd say that root for the Retail version is not going to happen. To add to that frustration for retail owners, Lollipop will come along and that very well make it even harder to find a root exploit for the DE, no one knows about Lollipop yet.
I voted with my wallet and bought the DE.
It sounds like you've got a pretty good grasp of the situation. One thing that I'd throw in is that I'm not at all worried about not getting official support from Verizon. Every Android phone I've ever has has been rooted within minutes of getting it and I have never once taken an OTA update from Verizon. I've always been able to update through ROM releases much quicker than Verizon releases official OTA updates.
One other thing I should throw in though on the side of getting the consumer edition, the warranty will be longer. I believe the DE only comes with a 30 day warranty.
If you're interested, EMSPilot has already released a custom ROM for the DE.

[Q] help Root SCH-i535PP on 4.4.2

Ive been searching night and day trying to find a way to root my galaxy S3 (SCH-i535) running 4.4.2 . Ive come up empty handed and as may know TOWEL ROOT DOES NOT WORK ON THIS BUILD. The most progress I have made is unlocking developer options with 7-tap doctrine. (haha) So this is pretty much a "calling all car" for those out there who are well versed in the art of rooting and all things $ sudo.
Info on safely reverting to an android OS that is rootable would also be useful.
l or any knowledge about the SCH-I535PP on 4.4.3 (pre paid verizon Galaxy S3) and exploits discovers .
Im lightly knowledgeable in Terminal, soooooo. If any one knows some work arounds or anything that would at least make me smile please feel free to write.
Tell me me what you all know and restore my faith in the power of the internet community.
much love,
-Lifehertz
ive also been looking
ive also been looking to root my phone also. all ive been able to dig up is possible roms that might be flashable with this model. and help would be greatly appreciated!
I knew I wasnt alone.
For some reason i have faith that someone is working on getting this phone rootable.
Until then lets keep the conversation going.
Do you have any links to these rims. Also, what are your thoughts?
I want root too because this phone is not compatible with samsung gear apps for my neo...very heartbreaking. ..wanted to put more apps on my watch but can't because this verizon galaxy s3 prepaid is not updated like all the other ones.....
Hey guys, I'm just posting to join in the misery. I feel like a hero for getting past the activation setup wizard! I have spent many hours researching how to root this stupid phone, and at this point its my white whale. There will be a way eventually, and this thread can be our anchor when that day comes. If anyone has a problem with the setup wizard, let me know.
The white whale under my friend.
Im curious as to how long the SCH-I535PP has been available on 4.4.3.
Because if it has been a short amount of time then the true developers and root wizards
Probably haven't had much need or want to work on a root for this phone.
I am noticing though after walmart dropped the price of the phone severely
And christmas came around. There are a Lot of new SCH-I535PP users. So maybe if we keep asking around and raising awareness about this build needing root, then a root genie will hear the cries of the community and get to work granting us our wish.
Verizon really locked this up with the recent update. This phone is two years old and there are many stronger phones coming out the root gods are focusing on blessing. But, its not hard to see that the SCH-I535PP is fantastic tool for its price point.
Please, anyone who reads this and is well versed in rooting phones, please do the SCH-I535PP community a solid and help us step out from being the prison bars of 4.4.2.
Thank you for letting me ramble. I hope it helped keep the spirit alive. Haha
Disclaimer: I'm an android noob, and everything in this post could be wrong. I'm just trying.

I know that version of kitkat was released on June 2nd, 2014, if that helps.
I don't understand whether ALL sch-i535 after that date are blocked from rooting, or ONLY the sch-i535pp (prepaid) version. I've read conflicting things because the circumstances change over time, but the threads on forums stay the same. What was true 5 months ago might not be true anymore.
I believe (could be wrong) that every single phone that was updated after June 2nd is completely SOL and blocked from being rooted. I think Towelroot was the last thing that worked for anybody, and even that method is lost to ANYTHING with a Kernel date of June 3rd or later. Mine is July 22nd. I believe the truth is that the vast majority of people that are rooted are just not updating to KitKat because they know it will un-root them and the party is over. I think that anyone with a phone that is old but updated to kitkat can reset to factory and get back to JellyBean or whatever version they originally had that can be rooted. So that leaves a small, but growing population that just simply can't root because we have the newest galaxy S3s with late kernel dates off the shelf . It's just getting harder and harder to find exploits. They guy who wrote towelroot works for google now, finding/fixing exploits that he once used to hack phones.
Either the population will catch up with us 'un-rootables' or they will leave us behind as bigger and better things come along. The Galaxy S3 is (kind of) yesterday's problem. I'm just sayin.....
I truly hate to be the burden of bad news but I can't say I'm surprised by verizon finally locking down the S3. The contract version was rumored to have been locked down with a version past the last official OTA of 4.4.2 but it seems that the pp version was moved to 4.4.3 which in all seriousness was then locked down by big red
Going forward I'd stay away from verizon as far as phones go, the short version of this is the fact that they will try anything possible to lock down every android phone they can

Damn it. The mutiny. The injustice!
Im beginning to accept this fact. You all have been great. If verizon is a bust, do you know of any prepaid phones that are easily rooted? I might sell this stupid paper weight. My goal is to be able to fully use terminal and learn the android Unix shell. These things are extremely powerful and yet we arent supposed to know or use its power..
Anyways. I don't know much about using Sims on phones because ive only owned CDMA. I don't really need a nee phone. Just somthing with 2gb of ram at least. Any suggestions or experiencs?

How about someone looks for the 4.3 kernel for this phone, flashes it through ODIN, root with towelroot, and goes back to the new kernel with root! That's what they did with the AT&T Galaxy S5, and it should work and Verizon devices too.

I doubt that'll happen, since the AT&T and Verizon S5 and many other devices have been rooted with downgrading the kernel. Either way though, IDK if it'll even work, sknce it sounds impossible to boot a JB kernel on a KK platform. Has anyone tried Cydia Impactor on this device?

Developer Edition and Updates

Thinking about selling my retail note 4 and buying a developer edition. Once lollipop is out will Samsung start shipping the dev editions with lollipop pre-installed? I'm hesitant to go with the dev edition as it seems like a lollipop upgrade may never happen.
That's actually pretty good question. Most people would say no you never get updates etc etc but the developer edition is available online now and if lollipop update happens soon I don't know?
Right. All I really want is to run a stock rom with root but since there isn't a very active dev community for the Note 4 I'm skeptical if lollipop will ever come in that form.

No one really knows the answer to your question, will Samsung ship Developer Edition Note 4's after Lollipop has been released by Samsung. Who knows how long or when Samsung will have a version of Lollipop for the Note 4? There are some schools of thought that Lollipop may not be able to be rooted, Developer Edition or retail version. So, who knows?
I personally maintain this: I really don't care if Lollipop is released for the Note 4. I have a Nexus tablet with Lollipop on it and am not impressed at all with Lollipop. My Note 4 is rooted with TWRP and self debloated, running Nova Launcher and a few apps requiring root like Xposed and Wanan and I don't think there is a phone on the market, with or without Lollipop, that has better battery life, runs smoother or faster, has better connectivity or has a better display. When you add in the S-Pen features, you can't beat the Note 4 and I don't think Lollipop is going to make the Note 4 better. Just my opinion.
Jpcalhoun said it best.. There is a bit of me that wants that lollipop but then again im so happy where my DE is now. If it ain't dont fix it really comes to. Mind.
Update Question
I might be totally off base here, but I thought it was just a question of getting the OTA update from a non-DE Note 4 and modifying it slightly so it doesn't overwrite your bootloader with a retail version.

my bet would be yes. i have two note 4 devs and one has an1 on it from sammy and the newest has nj5 on it so they are updating them and still making them the latest. also im sure if the retail note gets it there will be a stock tar that use dev guys can use to make our dev ed a lollipop device and i am not sure about lollipop either without xposed. i have used several nexus 6 and lollipop is stupid fast and smooth but i still need xposed and dont mind tw at all so we shall see

Well, I'm convinced... Off to go ebay my retail n4. Anybody done this and can report on how much they got for it? Sale prices are strangely all over the map on ebay. I can't really figure out what is causing some to sell for $500 and others for $650. Mine is in great condition. I'm expecting $600. Thoughts?

That would be correct. The challenge is having a developer, or someone who knows what he's doing, to do it. From my experience that updated version of Android, in this case kitkat to lollipop, usually comes to us in the form of a ROM flashable through recovery. But it doesn't necessarily have to be that way I guess. I assume you could take the factory .tar, modify it and use ODIN to install.
Either way, I have a line on clean copies of the updates. Guy down the hall from me has a retail VZW Note 4. Asked him to download, but not install, then bring the phone to me to pull the file from cache

In this case i really disappointed to myself, why i upgrade it, as i live not in the US region, because i read in other thread, you said there's root access for our note 5 but only for 5.1.1 although it's still pain in the ass..

Full root on lollipop was a huge luck strike. Root for marshmallow if ever will take a while if at all and if N comes even longer. Best to just stay away from AT&T phones for good, I'm moving to international Note 7 once released for octa version and root.

Marshmallow? My AT&T Note 5 is still on lollipop 5.1.1. I check for updates all the time and it always says I'm on the latest version.

We were not "lucky" to get MM on the Note 5, Samsung has had no issue supporting the Note 5 and S6 series with MM since they were flagship phones. If you look at the history of Samsung's support for the previous gen phones, I'm confident they will support N for the Note 5 and S6 series unless something comes up that's significant enough for them of all companies to say no. I'd say you have a reasonable expectation to see N on the now previous gen Samsung's. I love my S7 edge though

If we get Android N it will probly be Aug or Sept of 2017 Samsung will drag its feet and AT&T will really take it's sweet time releasing it
It's not Samsung you have to be worried about, it's AT&T not finding and releasing.
Agreed, Samsung has even committed to providing the monthly security updates to the providers as soon as possible, and even AT&T has been a bit quicker in releasing those. Granted security patches are pretty easy to scan over and verify they won't screw with the AT&T side of things, but a whole new OS upgrade is definitely another story for carriers so they don't brick phones or cause software glitches because of their modifications to the firmware. Thats one thing I do like about Apple, no carrier specific software, they need to do that with Android, since pretty much all of the carrier apps are on the Play Store, and if they aren't well, I say f you to the carriers and their garbage modifications anyways, hence why I flashed the unlocked firmware to my S7 edge.
And beta avalible in Korea

Go to best buy and have the Samsung associate update your phone to 6.0. Did mine yesterday and couldn't be happier. My note 5 is more snappier and responsive
