Need help with deciding. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so I'm debating on whether or not getting the G3. I need as many opinions as possible whether or not to get it. Please list your pros/cons along with your comment. Right now, I'm stuck with either the M8 or the G3.
My previous devices were:
Samsung: S2, S3, S4
HTC: Inspire, Wildfire S, EVO 3D
Sony: Xperia Z1 C6903
LG: Nexus 4 (current)
I really liked my Samsung's just cause of the AMOLED screen. I stripped TouchWiz most of the time and stuck with AOSP. I liked my HTC's cause Sense was actually pretty cool besides the heavy UI. I liked my Z1 cause it was waterproof. I love my Nexus, because, 1) Life's Gangster 2) straight Google 3) decent specs even today.
Cons: TouchWiz, is full of useless gimmicks. Sense, then, heavy UI. haven't used any other version since 4.1. Sony, odd but useful UI.
My girfriends brother just got the M8 and he said he loves it. Is only other (smart)phone was an S4. I'm not sure whether to get the G3 or the M8 though. He said that he used the G2 and he said it was **** without explanation. I was gonna get the M7 but since HTC took the SD card slot away, I'd have no use for my 64GB.
I love that the G3 comes with 3GB ram for the 32gb with expandable to 128GB. I kinda like the rear power/volume buttons. I love the lockscreen (using it on my N4). I love OIS and the Infrared depth sensor. The only things steering me away from it is the 5.5" screen and it not being waterproof. I'm not too worried about the waterproofing because hello, taking a shower with my Z1 wasn't anything exhilarating. I think 4.7" is a sweet spot for screens but I definitely got used to my S4's 5" other than having to reposition my hand to drop the notification shade down.
Please help me decide on what I should do. Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I figured I'd put it here cause 1) I'm asking a question (2 about the G3.
Thank you.

Only you can decide.
No one can give you an absolute "yes" or "no".
You have already found two negatives FOR YOU in G3 - 1)screen is too big 2) not waterproof.
If you are in the US, you can buy it from your carrier, use it for 13 days and then decide whether you like it or not.

Yeah but opinions can help a lot. I mean the screen "seems" to be too big. It'll be different when I actually get the hold the device and see how it feels. For the waterproof thing, hopefully there will be a case that at least protects it from light rain or something. My N4 isn't waterproof and I'm okay with that. It was just a nice luxury when I had it noting I really need. There's always those companies out there that do it to an extent. Do you have the G3?

Not yet, I'll get it right after T-Mo tells me they have for sale.
To me it will be my dream phone. To ME.
Everybody's needs are different.

Lol. I'm using the Xperia Z Ultra! 6.4" of finger and Palm splitting. All other phones feel so small to me but I'm trying to find the sweet spot so I can go back down under 6". I'm getting the G3. Love LG designs and I miss owning the OGP. I think this phone will be the one for me until the Note 4 comes out, but if the Note 4 is knoxed up with locked bootloader on t-mobile then I'm sticking with the G3. Might even be my phone for more than 6 months!!!

@Maine_Coon same here. I was checking out my gfs brothers M8 and my thoughts are: Pros: its surprisingly thin, surprisingly lightweight, Sense seems a lot faster, boomsound is greatly improved and bassy, the pictures look amazing, the top where the IR blaster looks slick. Cons: I have to slide the phone down a bit in my Palm to reach the power button (I'm used to side power buttons). I don't like how they moved it to the right of the top of the phone. You have to strain your finger to press it. I don't like the placement of the headphone jack. Its not directly in the center of the bottom of the phone, it looks cut off. I don't like the recents panel.
So yeah, I'd rather take an OIS camera with an infrared laser rather than dual cameras. I have never witnessed an OIS camera before and I think it would be sweet. I think I'm steering towards the G3 more than anything. Let me know what you think of it if you get it before I do.
@Jammol 6.4" is massive! Honestly, my Z1 was too big for me and it even had a 5" screen. I loved my S4 once I stripped TouchWiz off of it, unlocked the Sim and bootloader. I only got rid of it because Samsung released that Knox ****. I mean I still rooted and flashed ROM's with it removed though. I just think Samsung is steering more toward unless gimmicks that they think people would use. Don't get me wrong, air view was pretty tight, but that's about it.

Sure will.
The only thing that bothers me is that some report "dim", or not enough brightness.
I almost always keep the brightness at 100%.
Have such a screen dull would be a shame.
Battery life is non-issue for me, I always have the spare. Unless it is not possible, as with G2 and Z Ultra
Everything else suits me perfectly.
Already sold my i6000 and G2, Z Ultra will follow if I will be happy with G3.

Are you talking about the G3's screen being too dim? If so, having a 1440p QHD screen you would think they'd have to limit something with it to conserve battery a little better. As what @Jammol said, if the G3 is actually worth it, I'll probably keep it until way past it's lifespan. The most I'd probably do to it is slap AOSP on it like I did with my S4 depending on how the UI is.

yes.
doesn't make sense to me to have a phone with dim screen.
my i6000 6.5" 1080p screen was brilliant.
as of AOSP, we need an unlocked bootloader and not just root.
hopefully this will be resolved.

With T-Mobile's Uncarrier 5/6, I doubt locked bootloader will stay for long. T-Mo is really trying to win more customers and I think if they allow unlocking of bootloaders, that would win a lot of people in my opinion. Hell look at Verizon, they may have the most advanced and fastest LTE, but I'd rather have a fully customizable phone than fast Internet, especially when I have Wi-Fi at home. But again, that might all change with Android 5.0

Think about the OnePlus One if you're ready for a 5.5" phone. Comes with CM from the factory, the most open and dev-friendly device atm. Only prob is availability and few reports of yellow tinted screen (sounds like the N4 a while back haha) and can't try before you buy. G3 is beautiful but hobbled by GPU thermals and too many pixels, prob locked bootloader, needs Windows to get it ready for custom roms.
Or if you need a G3 wait a month or two and it will have Snapdragon 805 to solve all the major issues.

Yeah the OnePlus One looks like an amazing device but I kinda like UI options. Hell, even when I had my S4 before I put AOSP on it, there were so many themed versions of TouchWiz. I never really witnessed a LG UI before and I'm interested to find out what it's like. I would definitely get it, but the whole "invites" thing is a huge dilemma. I'm waiting for Xaiomi to hit the US. Cheap, but beefy phones.

What do you consider outdated though? So should I get the G3 when T-Mo get it then? I read reviews about it on AndroidAuthority and AndroidCentral and they both said that even though it has a 5.5" screen, it handles like 5". They said the camera is good, infrared laser is fast, etc etc.

i was one of the winners from the race contests and i ended up giving my invite to somebody else because of the reasons below:
-only snapdragon 801
- the display is outdated..2k and/or 4k with qhd is the future
-no microsd slot
-no water resistant
-no removable battery
-no ir blaster
-too tall, with big bezels..taller than the g3
-oneplus devices tend to have a yellow tint on the screen
-CM takes too long to update their work
-by the time u get it there will be better phones already

That doesn't make any sense. 2k/4k resolution is only needed on a much larger screen, while the 810 is slated for sometime in 2015. If you're willing to wait a year then this whole discussion is moot.

@CrashTestDroid you really think they'll come out with a G3 with an 805? I just want something beefy enough to play Modern Combat 5 when it comes out.

The only downside (if you dont like big phones) is the phone size itself. I find it hard to operate with one hand. Since its a phablet you'll probably use two hands most of the time.
I currently own an LG G3 Beta version and I can say that it is excellent. Battery life, screen, features are more than enough. I wish it was around the 5" spot but then again the beautiful QHD display makes up for it.

LG G3 Mini Wishlist?

Quoting this: reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/28gmpd/a_letter_to_lg_lg_g3_mini_wishlist
can't link because I'm too new... ^
Anyone agree? Thoughts?
The G3 is a great phone, but for the logical and rational people out there who value more than specs on paper, or aren't sold on the stupid-high resolution and its pitfalls, what would you like to see in a G3 Mini? I think this is a grand opportunity for LG to make the first "mini" phone that doesn't need to suffer from sub-par specs.
If anyone from LG is reading this, your high-resolution display is actually the main reason I will NOT be buying the G3, next to being slightly too large. I own a G2 which I find is already pushing it.
The high-resolution display is just not worth these pitfalls:
BATTERY: Life is good, but could have been even better with a 1080p display; or could use a smaller battery resulting in lower cost for the device
HEAT: Device runs hotter because of the power draw on the display. When phones get hot, the processor underclocks itself. This is why phones often get laggy when they get hot; 1080p would be at MUCH lower risk, if at all
COST: No doubt that the R&D (optimizations) to pull off this high resolution will make the device more expensive; 1440p display materials also certainly drive the cost up over 1080p
I respect LG for this technological feat, but it really only appeals to the nutty enthusiasts who get off just knowing they are running high specs, or the uninformed masses who are just too dumb to know. I know there is not much else to compete on in the smartphone space, so please bring a Mini that doesn't suck.
Here is my wishlist for a potentially perfect phone (LG G3 Mini), and it's quite simple.
1080p
5", but keeping the same sexy dimensions, materials, and design
Smaller battery is understandable since there will be less power draw
Keep the other key specs the same! (camera, Snapdragon, RAM)

I think he hits it right on too for the most part. Might battery life be almost TOO good with a 1080p display? Thing would run for days and days. On a smaller device there might not be as much space for it.
5' 1080 screen, everything else the same (okay to nudge the battery down slightly if necessary, due to the smaller package).
I don't want mini performance, simply a smaller screen/package. I really don't want 5.5 screen, I have a 7" tablet with BT kbd/mouse for things that take more real estate.
I want compact, not mini. Mostly because mine is a excuse for selling low performance for premium dollar..

It does, but because it's not removable.
The Korean G2, which has a removable battery, is only 2600mAH instead of the 3000 of the international version. And surprisingly enough, it makes a big difference in battery time (or maybe it's because the firmware is different?)
I love the G3 (I mean I'm ready to love it, as I don't have it yet), but I think it's slightly too big for me. A G3 compact with the same size as the G2, only a bit thinner would be ideal (G2 is the perfect size for me). While retaining the removable battery and SD slot of course...

I'm starting to wonder if the X+1 will have native Android L which should automatically give it 20-40% battery life improvement. Looks like August is a solid date. I hope they can deliver where the G3 failed.

Coming from the Note 2, I'm impressed with the screen size to phone size ratio. One thing that has bothered me, is how small the LED notification indicator light is. Can barely tell if it's blinking or not. Might just be me, but I loved how easy it was to see the LED notification on the Note 2.

I thought after the Moto X, everyone would jump on the ActiveDisplay. Motorola must have a patent on it or other manufacturers are still blind to the great value it adds. LED notifications feel archaic after using a Moto X.

Good point. Haven't really explored Moto phones too much, but that's some very useful/practical tech.
I'm surprised almost half the voters believe that 5.5" is more practical than 5" for a smartphone!
Looks like the newly announced 5" G3 Beat will be as good as it gets for us. Not ideal specs, but I'd still take 720p over 1440p any day. If they had made it 1080p, snap 801, and same camera, this would have made it to my shortlist.

Looks like we have a winner!

Essentially a G3 but 5.2"/1080p! My only wish is that they'd made it 5" or smaller, but looks like this is as close as we're gonna get.

[Q] From G3 to G4

Hi guys,
Are there any G3 users who upgraded to the G4? I am having second thoughts on upgrading, so I would like your opinion as well.
G3 user here. I won't be upgrading to G4 anytime soon. Leather back sure looks nice but I wouldn't go for real leather since there are reports of the corners wearing off (see Michael Fisher's video from Pocketnow). Quantum Display is also nice; brighter and more saturated display than the G3. I only use mine mostly indoors so I'm still cool with it. The G4's manual camera mode is awesome tho but I think the great devs here can port it to our G3
Got the G4 for testing and currently a G3 owner, its definitely better (display - find it to be a good improvement to G3, general performance - much snappier than G3, including camera performance)
But, I don't find the improvements worthwhile enough to upgrade to a G4.

If your main concern for upgrading your phone is the stupid leather back (which, btw, you don't need to use. It comes with a plastic one as well) then that's ridiculous. Each phone is different FYI. I've seen more reports of people on here who've had the phone for a 1-3 weeks and not an issue.

Quite a few selling points compared to the Nexus 6:
IR blaster
SUPER DUPER camera
Those two are my main points. Also, keep in mind that the Nexus 6 is 6", while the G4 is 5.5" - it's easier to hold in one hand. Hopefully the camera isn't all the hyp though. I'm coming from a DSLR - a Nikon D90, and hopefully will replace the DSLR with a phone. Not really sure how that will work.
By the way, the G3 and the Nexus 6 both run very warm - the G4 supposedly doesn't do that since it runs on a 6 core chip, so less thermal throttling. I also recall my G2 getting VERY hot to the touch when I watch videos.

Considering that the D90 I was using is from 2008, I would hope that technology has gotten better for the mobile series. I saw some videos from a few reviewers, comparing them with the Canon EOS series cameras and they were unable to tell the difference unless zoomed all the way in on a 16MP image. I think that's good enough!

You are 100% correct on that, but most images taken at night shouldn't be used with flash, since it destroys the background. While you can swap flashes and lens, most amateurs stick with a set of wide lens - and rarely do people carry different flashes around. I guess it's really dependent on your usage, but I don't take night pics/indoor pics with flash. And it's interesting that the camera on the G4 has such a large aperture that it matches a lot of the decent lens for DSLRs. With a large apeture, the shutter speed can be lowered without having to bump the ISO up, reducing the need for a flash.

G3 Owner here, will upgrade to the G4 as soon as my business account rep gets it done.
I have the G3 for sometime going to get my G4 on Monday.
My G4 arrives today, and currently have a g3 that i'm very happy with but my wife wants it, as her z1 is looking a bit worse for wear.
hoping the G4 is a worthy upgrade, but to be honest i dont have any real issues with my G3.
if the camera is any faster to load and focus then I'll be very happy, as the g3 is quick but I want instant !
I have a G3, and pre-ordered my black leather G4 on Verizon this morning!
Better screen, louder speaker, leather back, slightly curved and a better front design IMO. If you're in the US, the free goodies you get from lg.
right now i have both the g3 and g4, and all i can say is g4 is way better in terms of performance compared to g3 camera is really superb! i love those bokeh shots, plus the low light shots; which cant be done on g3. however, it does warm a bit upon eccessive usage; but right now im still using my good 'ol g3 as g4 doesnt have root yet , and most of my root apps (adaway, titanium backup, etc) will not yet work with my g4. hopefully root will be out sooner...

I upgraded from the G2 (had it only a month because I switched carriers and knew I was getting the G3--used it to tie me over) to the G3 and got my G4 on Friday. Loving it so far. The leather is nice, but I'm worried about it's durability. I'm worried about touching it with dirty hands or laying it down somewhere where it could get dirty. The subtle curved screen is awesome, the colors pop (and I keep my brightness at around 15%). I replaced the launcher with Novo. I miss the smart screen feature but found an app replacement on Google Play. It may be a subtle upgrade, but why fix something that isn't broke. Unlike HTC who does subtle upgrades, but still can't make a camera worth the price tag. For most, battery life and cameras are two big things they look for in a new phone.

[Q] Htc one M10

So HTC says its going to change the design of the next flagship device. Not sure how i feel about that. I hope htc makes an even better looking one than the previous ones

If this is what the design will look like am I would be in love with it! Now that is some sexy piece of phone!

Fantastic but the brushed steel body seems to be outdated.
I have high hopes for this phone. I only had one HTC and it was very brief, the M9, which I had to return because of extreme heat issues. I liked the build of the phone, though.
With most phones going AMOLED, which I loathe, my only choice seemed to be the LG G5 but after the G4 bootloop debacle, I didn't want to further support them. Plus the G5 seems to gimmicky with the modules, of which I'll never use.
So, HTC, please don't let me down.
Rumors are The inclusion of 4GB RAM along with internal storage options: 32, 64 and 128GB have also been claimed multiple sources. The device might come with 5-inch 4K or 2K resolution display. Well, we should keep in mind that it's not necessary for the device to come with these above mentioned aspects because HTC is yet to give confirmation to its forthcoming heir.

I believe a SuperLCD screen is soft-confirmed, so you may pretty happy to hear this. As far as storage, I've heard a lot about 32 and 64, but only a whisper about 128 right at the beginning.
More exciting is yesterday's #powerof10 tweet, which reads "Here comes the new boom. You’ll hear it. #powerof10 pic.twitter.com/Ln3XxWZ9BO
— HTC (@htc) March 23, 2016"
One can hope
Yeah, I was originally reading about the screen being Super LCD 5 but am now reading Super AMOLED at a few places after a "spec leak".
That will officially count me out on the HTC 10.

Even though I'm 99% sure it is going to be an LCD, the latest Amoled panels are decent. Definitely shouldn't be a deciding factor when choosing a device.
Sent from my Vodafone Smart ultra 6 using Tapatalk
I don't know if decent is good enough for me. My last AMOLED phone (Nexus 6) really let me down, developing burn in after about three days, even if it was slight. I'm a heavy user and my eyesight is fairly sharp. Combine that with some slight OCD issues, any blemish draws my attention constantly, slowly driving me insane. Tis a sad life.

Sounds like a defective screen to me-- I have 20:15, and am anal about the quality of my screens. I am not a huge fan of AMOLED in its current state, but I've not had an experience with them developing burn in with even heavy use, so long as said use is "normal." You can burn almost anything in with enough time + static image.
From the pictures which flows. HTC 10 looks beautiful,Snapdragon 820 is also the best in Android.

Switch from Z3 Compact to LG G4

I'm currently using Z3 Compact and I've been really satisfied.. but now the jack is not working and I'm tempted by all the good offers on the LG G4. I'm just wondering about a couple of things. Hope you peeps can answer some..
1. The size is my biggest issue... I'm afraid the LG G4 may be too big for me. I have quite small hands, but I would like a bit bigger phone than the Z3C. Do you guys think it would be too big for me?
2. Performance wise.. Will it be any upgrade?
Thanks
G4 has a large screen but feels very good in hand.

I just switched to a G4 from a Moto X 2013. I have to admit the size scared me at first, but I'm getting used to it...
It's sad that I can barely type a message with one hand anymore (I still don't feel 100% confident in terms of balancing the phone in one hand while typing), but all the other benefits make it worth the trade.
The screen is great for reading, media consumption and just beautiful overall, and oh - the camera! Also, Marshmallow!
I don't regret my switch.
But I wouldn't mind having a bit of a smaller phone as my next one.

Thanks.. It's the size im most afraid of, since I mostly use my Z3C with just one hand.. I rarely use it with two. If you were me and still had the Moto X, would you choose the G4 again, or buy a smaller one?

Honestly, it's also a matter of how good a deal you find. I got this G4 for a very nice price compared to how much other last year's flagships cost where I live, so the 5,5 inches is just something I can live with in exchange.
But I must admit I would prefer something around 5 inches. I would've gotten the S7 (non-edge, although the edge is beautiful) if I weren't too late for the preorder Gear VR bonus...
Didn't want to dish out so much for just the phone (over twice as much as the G4 cost me).
I had the S7 in hand and it feels perfect. ~5.1 inches is the sweet spot for my hands, it seems.
It also depends on what you're looking for in a phone... I really wanted a good camera and the G4 has one of the best.
Not sure about any other recent phones which are fairly compact and have a really good camera at the same time...
Well, there's the Galaxy S6, and you might ask why didn't I consider it - well, I didn't really fancy Samsung phones until the S7...
Although supposedly the S6 is much better with Marshmallow now... It's not a bad choice, I guess.
In the end, there's no short answer, since the size isn't the only factor here.
I think the G4 overall is such a nice device in every way... if you can get it at a good price, you won't regret it no matter if you end up typing messages in one hand or two...
Think about what you want the most in a phone and check whether the G4 has it and consider whether you're willing to live with the trade-off of having a bigger phone.

Only you can answer that. Are you a phone size phone type of person or not.. Why not hold one yourself.
Do take this seriously as the best phone in the world means nothing if you can't handle it comfortably. I opted for the G4 because the v10 would be too big. I did this be using a iphone 6 plus as a dummy (!) that blocky device was uncomfortable and the v10 was bigger still. My previous device had a 4.7" screen so jumping to 5.9" was a jump too far.

I'm wondering how demanding you are of battery. How much sot do you require over how long for standby.
What sot/runtime does the Z3c give you currently over data only, over wifi only.
For me I switched from Z3 .. You will get many upgrades and noticeably better performance but you will be disappointed about the battery life a lot especially from a Z3 compact user.. SOT is barely 4 h and 30 m over wifi only.. Standby nearly 20 h

Wow that is a jump. I don't know what specifically attracts you to the G4. I chose it mainly for the Camera and the fact that I can enable Qi charging, which I couldn't do with the Nexus 5X. At that time I didn't even know about LG's ridiculous unlocking policy. So if Camera an Qi are not that important to you, I'd stay the hell away from the G4 and get an N5X instead. Real cheap now, latest Android, fingerprint and even a bit smaller than the G4.

Was going to preorder LG G5 but will wait for M10 now

The value of the preorder for the LG G5 means you get $932 worth of equipment for $632. It was very tempting, but I don't want to preorder it and then wish I had waited for the M10. I really want the M10 to be top dog. Rumor is going around there is going to be a M10+ with a 5.5" screen but nothing about when or where it would be released. That's the one I'd rather have.
I'm waiting too.

Even if it still a rumor, I would stay away for the M10+ and buy the M10. If you look in the past, you'll see that the "+" variant never had good development compared to the non "+" one. Might not be an issue if you don't care about custom roms...
i just saw these 2 videos and i got disappointed with LG, i wasn't going to buy it but i expected more:

That tear down video is a plus for me. The phone is easy to repair! The only criticism he makes is the "lack of premium feel". Personally that is way down on my list of concerns. I am not looking to impress anyone with how great my phone looks and I doubt anyone gives a damn anyway. I look for the features I want first and foremost. I have to admit I was not happy with how thin the glass over the screen is on the other video. That does kind off suck but I don't think it is a deal breaker for me.
I have a G5 arriving tomorrow. The camera and the replaceabe battery are what sold me. The free extra battery and charge case and the free 360 degree camera made me jump on it. I will miss the wireless charging now I am accustomed to it and have charge plates sitting everywhere! I only wonder if I should hold off opening the box until I can find out more about the HTC 10 after it is released on the 12th. I
I believe LG is on to something-- a modular phone has been my geek dream since the birth of smartphones! However, I don't think the first generation "beta" of this feature is going to be where it's at. There are a couple WOW mods (Battery and camera) that are simply awesome, but otherwise this first iteration is just a really nice albeit average phone with some snap-in "meh."
If the M10 fails to impress, the G5 is probably what I'm going to get. I didn't pre-order the G5, so I won't be getting the package either way.
I pre-ordered the G5 as I wasn't convinced of the HTC 2016 flagship a month ago.
However my pre-order for the G5 has now been delayed to the 22nd April and as a result I've been following the build up and now really liking the look of the HTC 10.
If it has a 5.1 inch or bigger LCD (not AMOLED), SD 820, 4GB RAM, I think I'll cancel my G5 and get this. I'd want the black face though, either with silver back or black back, I don't like the white fronted version in the leaks....
Time will tell tomorrow.
The G5 is a flop. Most of the reviews say it's half baked and pretty lackluster. The only good thing anyone has to say about it is that the camera is good.
I am currently using the S7 Edge but I have one more Jump until June. (I am on T-Mobile's Jump on Demand program which gives me 3 upgrades a year). I was going to maybe move to the G5 or the HTC 10 since I wasn't all that impressed with the S7E. After the major update T-Mobile pushed out for the S7E last week, my mind changed and I am now extremely impressed with the S7E. The battery lasts forever and the touchscreen is no longer overly sensitive.
That being said, I will wait to see what the HTC 10 brings. I love the look of the phone and I like Sense more than TW. The only thing I wish it had was a larger display but I can live with 5.2".
At the end of the day, the G5 is already crossed off the list. I played around with one in the store and was totally unimpressed. It felt like crap in my hand. The chamfered edges are too sharp and feel uncomfortable while I'm gaming in horizontal view. The display is also very average. Not impressed one bit. I wouldn't call it bad but it wasn't what I'd expect from LG. When it comes to looks, I know it comes down to personal preference but damn the G5 us fugly. When you hold a S7E next to it, you can just see that the S7E is on a whole nother level when it comes to sleekness. Everything wasn't bad for the G5 though. The UI felt snappy and I didn't notice and lag/jitters.
I like the look and feel of the G5. I think all the phones pretty much look the same and I really don't care that much about it anyone. I don't think anyone is getting laid because their phone is so impressive. I have been wanting a wide angle shooter on a phone for years...awesome! I have always carried spare batteries. I can always go from 10% to 100% in seconds.....also awesome!
Sent from my K00C using Tapatalk
LG g5 is DOA. I'm returning mine. Better competition. The build quality alone isn't very good as that gap between the module and Chassis is frustrating. Moreover, the camera isn't as good as the S7 Edge.

I've cancelled my g5 order. It getting delayed was definitely meant to be as I've ordered the htc 10 for only £13 more
After seeing the HTC 10 today it's looking very promising. Much better than the G5.
What do you mean by better? The finish and feel might be slicker but that is not my main concern. I will miss the wireless charging on my S3 but the 10 doesn't have that either. The replaceable battery and wide angle shooter are what makes me want the G5. No matter how great the phone looks it ain't much good if the battery craps out on you at 2AM and you are not at home! Zero to 100% in seconds will always be a winner for me. I always carry a spare battery. No matter how strong the battery life of the S7 is it will not be as good in a year! The fee charge cradle, spare battery, and 360 camera cinched it for me (I see the T-mo offer on the 360 cam had been extended so you can still get it).
Did you see the breakdown review on juryrigeverythind.com (I think that is it)? The G5 will be very easy to repair. That makes up for a little sloppiness in built to me, as long as everything works ok from the start. I think they all look like cell phones. If you want to look cool get some new clothes, nobody is looking at your phone and judging you on it!
None of the reviews fault the G5 on performance, it is a beast. Most of the reviewers discount the friends module aspect of the phone because there are not many now and it is questionable what will develop. Still, the idea that I might get surprised with some cool new module feature is a plus for me. Who doesn't get a little bored with the phone after a couple years? I think the G5 is getting unfair treatment by a lot of reviewers.
Sent from my K00C using Tapatalk
The big cross against G5 is the locked (or unlocked custom as seen on Tmobile variant) bootloader. That's a big one for me. I was looking at G5 and gave up on it because of that.
As for battery, I just carry a 10k slab and charge up my phone using that if I am not next to a wall or laptop or pc. Who wants to reboot the phone for a replaceable battery! So, I will likely not use that unique feature of G5 ever.
Going to wait and see what this feels like in hand, coming from 5.5 and up phones I don't want this to feel tiny in my hands.

I've had my G5 for 2 days now. Build is good- the modular piece seams nicely, feels good in hand. Tested for light bleed- minimal bleed on top and only noticeable in darkened room with test app, very accceptable. I read about someone having a proble with the audio jack- mine is very tight. Someone said they had hissing sound with BT- mine is great with my jawbone and my car unit. Battery time is ok, maybe not great, I tend to be a heavy user. Quick charge is very fast, about 1% per minute. I look forward to receiving the spare battery, unlike previous poster I do not mind rebooting my phone, especially if I can go from 15% ot 100% in 30 seconds! Camera is very good, lover the wide angle. It seems that the metering only has center weight and matrix which disappoints but I may not be understanding the interface, need to find a manual, phone only comes with a quick start guide so I guess I can download from LG. Overall I am very happy. Can't wait to play around with promo 360 camera when it arrives!
