Pac-Rom for Samsung galaxy S5 - General PAC Discussion

Will there be a Pac-Rom for Samsung galaxy s5?

Anyone know anything?
Will we have to wait for the three mods to get upgraded first and then wait PAC rom to be built for S5?
Is it possible to compile a version for S5 today?
Does previous versions like S4 work for S5?
What are we waiting for?

I'm attempting.
I have builds that have came out almost working, then google had to update to 4.4.3 and it messed it all up, then my computer hard drive crashed, this is for the Sprint varient but I'm going to make it for more S5's soon.

Sounds interesting! Too bad the update crashed everything, I hope you get it working
Keep up the good work, it's much appreciated!

[Q] Dirty Unicorns ROM

Does anyone have any idea if there is a version of the Dirty Unicorns ROM for our phone, unofficial or not?? I have searched lots of forums and googled my fingers off, and I don't find one. However it is a very active ROM for ATT and Sprint. My friend has it on his Sprint M7 and loves it. I would love to try it.

On the official page it says that in the future it might expand to support Our Phone but no dice yet. Nothing left to do but wait. On the other hand you could try many of our extensive collection of roms that we already have.:silly:

Thanks, I am and have been playing with lots of the ROMs we have. Just trying to find the sweet spot between function and fashion
I am basically clueless on ROMs, but since there is a working Sprint version, how hard would it be to port it to our phone, in an unofficial version? I have been reading lots of the how to posts, and it seems fairly straight forward. But I also know there are several gotchas the screw with the Radios on the VZW network. I dont want a brick on my hands

Another future update?

I guess it's safe to say since Sprint is getting 4.4.4 that we're getting it as well? At some undetermined point of time of course.

I believe T-Mobile already implemented most of this in the NF4 update.
What I'm interested in is the Knox 2.0 (which I fear I might make rooting a stock device impossible) even with an unlocked bootloader.
Knox 2.0 was included in nf1 iirc. No hindrance.

Yeah I saw kid mode. And if course we already received that in the last update.

Yea I just yelled at T-Mobile about this and questioning why Sprint has 4.4.4 and why also the S4 & S5 on T-Mobile are getting 4.4.4 but we are getting ANOTHER 4.4.2. They told me an update is coming today, I looked and it's nf9 that has "improved wifi calling". I yelled some more about myself wanting stable data connections & removal of mm-qbattery-daemon. ..they ignored me...I'm mad...why the S4 & S5 but the real flagship (our Notes) are being neglected!!!
Frankly, I have enough updating: waited until July with updating to KK (my wifi calling stopped working and finally there was easy rooting without setting Knox, so I broke down and updated). After update my battery usage went out of control, thanks to root I fixed it, but still not impressive. Phone works as well as it worked before, but don't see much improvements, except for wifi calling that's fixed now, but now SD card access is tricky, with some programs it's fine, others don't work, so unless there is something new I really want, I won't bother updating, especially that probably root will be broken again.
Too much one step forward, one step back with those upgrades, especially that my phone works fine as is now.

So Android 5 LOLLIPOP has been officially revealed...

...and will it come out to our GNex ? :3
The SDK is coming out on Oct 17 (Source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/10/15/the-android-5-0-lollipop-sdk-will-arrive-on-october-17th/)
I hope so, because of the new GPU drivers in the FML-ROM, we're "prepared" for it(?)
When the source code will come out I'm sure that the develepers will start do work on it

not sure if didn't read other responses, or just being smart-aleck
lulz
but...
it is a POSSIBILITY
NOTHING can be CERTAIN until source drops AND someone TRIES, but I'd have to IMAGINE that SOMEONE will be trying hard as HELL to keep this device rolling in development no matter how old it gets, many people hold this device dear to their hearts, it was one of the first WIDELY released nexus devices on MULTIPLE carriers including cdma. and even though it's a pita sometimes, we still have love for this ol girl, but right now, at this very moment, NO ONE can tell you 100% if it WILL run lollipop %100 stable or even what many would consider daily driver type of builds.
have I answered the question yet that's been asked a couple times and answered already just not in as many words? I'm NOT trying to be a ****, I REALLY would like to know if anyone is still confused about this situation?
you've tried really hard to be a ****, though
I haven't read others, I don't frequent this forum often, I'm not into custom ROMS.
I was just passing by asking this info. On this post there was nothing that explained the situation as you did. And there were no info on the first page of the Galaxy Nexus forum.
Thanks, it's a bit more clear. I'll drop by in a few months to see what's happening
Android 4.4 wasn't officially supported by Galaxy Nexus, yet we have a plethora of ROMs to choose from. I believe that 5.0 will be no different. It will take more time to get it to work because of the changes from other iterations, but we will get it. Not officially. Google probably won't give a hoot that there is a new driver, and just leave the device for dead. There is no money to be made from the amount of work that would have to be done. If it DOES get officially released, I'd be incredibly surprised.

NO ONE has said that Google will push ANY kind of official L update to gnex, when source code drops, custom Rom development will undergo to try and bring 5.0 based aosp roms to the gnex, which isn't unfeasible.

I heard of CM is not going to support galaxy nexus with lollipop due to the lack of maintainers. Maybe teams like PA might keep on with their supports. But I don't expect Gnex would run well on L coz it doesn't even on Kitkat. every now and then I see stuters and bugs . When I thought Gnex was dying and apparently showing its age, I flashed back to the stock 4.3 . The magic just happened and my gnex was brought back to life . yes the scrolling isn't as smooth as that on others roms but everything is fast especially when it comes to multitasking, it's great.
with that said , I mean even gnex is going get supports from some devs , what we could do with it is simply have a look at that and that will by no means be a stable and pleasant daily driver.

I'm looking to go back to 4.3 as well. Is it as simple as doing the normal procedures and flash a 4.3 rom? I heard of some issues downgrading while using 4.4 bootloaders and problems with SD card memory. Just want to make sure if there were any extra precautions you had to take before going back to 4.3

just the toro and toroplus variants.
maguro still maintained
so for someone to build for toro/toroplus isn't too much to infer. I can't see NO ONE not building for gnex at Some point
whether EVERYTHING is FULLY working or not is another story, but I'm sure it'll be usable

No, there's not a single problem that i've seen. I just downloaded the factory Image and flashed it in fastboot mode.
but that will erase everything so just make a backup for your apps.
Funny that you say 4.3 runs well on your gnex because I've been running stock 4.3 for quite a while because I was fed up with trying to find the best custom rom and dealing with kernels and stuff.
4.3 runs like complete **** on my gnex and it has since I put it on there. It seems to get worse as time goes on though. I was using the Aviate launcher for quite a while but just installed the Google Now one to try that out and it seems much, much worse than Aviate in the performance department. I can be in an app, press home button and it will be close to 10 seconds sometimes for it to load, even with no apps present in the multitask/app switch thing. Blows my mind. I don't know why the performance is so bad.
I want to go back to android 4.1.2 because it's the only time I remember my gnex being quick.....but im having a hard time making that decision because of feature reasons.

It gets worse because the Java garbage colector is not doing what it's suppose to do and you have memory leaks so the memory gets full without a way of emptying it... To get around this, you need to restart the phone to empty the memory(usually daily or even two times a day). This HUGE bug is present onward since 4.2 for GNex, excluding 4.4 builds. So 4.1.2 will be best in that department.
But there is no need to go back to 4.1.2 to get this fixed (I couldn't bare it). Instead CM 10.1 has managed to fix the leak and you would be on 4.2 which is pretty similar to 4.3 and even 4.4 from the user end
I think Android 5.0 unofficially will continue.
There will be no further support officially. I "travel" too in different kit kat roms but always there were a bit of lag.
I return to cm 10.2 and my phone was brilliant, pretty quick.
Until recently that I install liquidsmooth that gone very fast for kit kat version.
I think now the kit kat versions will be enough stable. For lollipop, we will have to wait a lot.
we will see.
Source code just been released, so anyone working on, thx
I want cm lolipop!!!

I have never tried anything of the sort, but considering you can flash and of the generic d2lte roms to this phone (which is technically d2spr, whether you have sprint/boost/virgin, all three are the same device), I would say that if there's any talk of doing it on any other S3, then it would seem to be totally possible. If you have any luck with this let me know, I'd like try it. Also I have a spare mainboard for my l710, so id be more than willing to take the leap of faith and flash it first

They seem to have ported it to Verizon Galaxy S3 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/ubuntu-phone-os-ported-to-galaxy-s3-t2178134
Maybe it could be ported to sprint?
Judging by looking at it, the only issue would be it to recognize our Sprint modem, as it slightly differs (driver-wise) from the Verizon model. But I'm going to play around and see if I can install it on my spare Sprint s3 mainboard. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Hello fellows,
I have been running the CyanogenMod, Nightlies. (5.1.1) on Virgin/Sprint network, for well over a month now! Can say, they do seem to run rather well, right out of the box (Have played with Buid Prop a bit, running even better)
Any who, I have been looking and a working on something like this... UBUNTU PHONE OS, on our Galaxy S3's.....
Never really knew why/what/who ruined the Ubuntu Phone a few years ago.... Was really into that, but it never came out.... (bet someone lost thier job on that deal.... Who wants a phone to work like a reguler PC??? lmao)
PLEASE keep this going. I willing to test just about anything. Dont have an extra board, but do have an extra phone, (screen is jacked, but can boot and run)
....fingers crossed here!!!!
So far everything I tried soft-bricked the phone. Not even a dang boot-loop. Lol.. I'm gonna keep at it though.. I'll update if I have any luck.

Help needed to upgrade a Note 2 that was lost for 2 years.

I bought an unlocked Note 2 in the summer of 2013.
I happily used it until Christmas when it 'disappeared' in our house. My toddler daughter had hidden it somewhere.
Despite turning the house upside down it was never found and I reluctantly moved backwards to older phones I already had.
Nearly 2 years later and a builder found it hidden away in our spare room.
I know have my phone back which has been in hibernation for 18 months. It is running 4.4.1 and my question is this.
Despite it now being old I would like to upgrade the firmware to the best I can for the device without it slowing down. Please can someone recommend an upgrade and where I can find it. Phone is not rooted so will I have to do this?
Thanks in advance for your time.
There is no 4.4.1 for the note?

Good news that you found your phone. Probably your firmware is 4.1.1 and not 4.4.1 because 4.4.1 not exist and also you have to update this firmware immediately because of sds bug. If you don't know about it Google it. There are plenty of roms at forum and also plenty of instructions how to flash a custom rom and also how to update at latest official if you don't prefer custom.

Thanks for your reply Vagsvag. Just checked and it's running 4.4.2. I think it automatically upgraded something when I turned it on and logged in for the first time (sorry I'm not very savvy). In your opinion will this suffice or is there a newer platform I can safely download. I did a cursory bit of research on Google and it looks like 'Android L' is the last one offered for the Note 2, but I couldn't see if it was ever confirmed. I'll do some more research on here. I'd rather not load up a custom rom as when I did that to my last phone (S2 and the Lite'ning Rom) the phone became very glitchy. Perhaps things have improved in the last 5 years.

4.4.2 is the latest official, for newer version of Android you must go to custom rom, cm or aosp, there are also some roms transfered from official s3 firmware android version 4.4.4. My opinion is if you are ok with speed, response etc stay with this only root it to remove junk apps and block the ads. Now if you want something little bit more fresh you can try cm base, one of the more stable is Ivan_Meler's cm 12.1 at original android forum.

Thank you for all your help. I've rooted the phone which seems to make everything quicker. I'll stick with 4.4.2 for now but will have a look at CM12.1 at some point.
Ivan Meler CM 12.1, Best ROM so far. Whenever you plan to get in the CUSTOM ROM Zone !!!
