Lightweight apps? - HTC One V

Hello guys, I'm trying to make my phone as lightweight as possible and need some good replacements for the keyboard, launcher, dialer, music player and camera. For games I've already admitted that this phone is only capable of puzzle games and 2D games.

What ROM would you happen to be running?
My phone is CDMA and when I had Rhythmic Rom v1.4 I would delete the keyboard it came with and installed the google keyboard, that one seemed to be more smooth. I would also erase Trebuchet and install Nova launcher. I would also greenify anything and everything.
Right now i have a Sense based ROM and everything it has is running smoothly for me

I currently have RhythmicRom but haven't greenyfied everything, just memory hogging apps, also I replaced the keyboard and, I've gotta say, the phone flies now! What Sense-based ROM would you recommend? I've been considering revert to Sense for the camera and overall compatibility. I actually don't like Sense, but its nothing a launcher and gravitybox can't fix.

right now I have Ignorance V4 that I'm still modifying ( adding build.prop tweaks just in case they do work ) and I like it because there are no crashes and the tweaks that tonyskyfall made are just awesome...when i had rhythmicRom the camera would crash a lot so i had to let that rom go for an all around stable rom, so I would recomend Ignorance or myONEv, theyre my favorite sense roms
another thing you can do to make the phone faster is to make commonly used apps a system app using link2sd or titanium backup (i think) and also enable KSM

I found a good replacement for the facebook application called "Fast for Facebook". You can find it on google play store.

Smart Launcher 2
Google Play Music
Android built-in Keyboard - some time ago I've been using SwiftKey, which is really god, but it's also very heavy... too heavy for HOV.
That's what I'm using on Shpongle rom, I've OC-ed my HOV to 1.8GHz and it's not so bad

All Launchers slow on HTC Desire (Except Laucher Pro)

Every ROM I flash pretty much comes with ADW Launcher, this ran really slow on my phone, i don't know why. I heard good things about launcher pro so I installed that, not to wild about the look but it runs fast!
What about the stock android launcher? Also runs slow! Why is that? Is this normal for all desires?
It's CDMA for the record
i hav a gsm and all the launchers are speedy on my desire.
did you wipe before you flashed?
regards
Yep, did all that jazz.
On my device, I also noticed that Launcher Pro seems to be faster than other launchers. However, every other launcher I've tried, including the stock Rosie runs very fine. Currently I use the Rosie launcher from the HTC Desire Z and it is faster than the old one.
All GSM, of course (not that I'd think it has anything to do with your issue).
I've tried all the launchers mentioned + several more and LauncherPro is by far the best (it even has memory consumption settings that you can set based on your needs). Out of the box you're right its not much of a looker but you can very easily pimp it up using a website (they also have a paid app available in the market) like LauncherPro Icons
i have problem with my desire and using launchers on temprooted device - i tried all of them and its slow and i have problem with overheating anyone have same problems?
I'm using GO launcher EX 2.35 with Cyanogen 7, it is amazing and really fast.

[Debate]What rom and why?

Alright.. so we all probably use virtuous rom, gingervillian, cyanogen or miui.
I wanna know why everyone chooses each one.. I've flashed all and am just curious to why everyone else chooses the roms they do.. what really makes you stay with the rom you have??
I run miui. To me cyanogen lacks full customization. And has no benefitial features over miui. I get same battery life and phone runs smoothly at 1ghz as it would on any other rom. ONLY issue is random reboots. Which is a theme issue not a rom issue.. And I don't care for sense roms.. to me they slow the phone down.. although I am waiting for cm7 to become stable before my first flash.
Sent from my G2.
Currently I am running MIUI. I'm still getting used to it but overall I like it. I love the UI. It looks clean and it's quick.
Stock post ota deodexed.... because every other rom gives me some sort of problem that there is no guide to fixing and I don't have the time to troubleshoot the bull****
Whats deodexed mean??

The 1.2Ghz clock speed from the God speed thread.
Anything higher than that affects my battery and I don't see any obvious benefit as I don't play any games that need a higher CPU.
virtuous because of eye candy and htc streams are awesome!!
which rom saves battery most?
I use CM6.1.1
I previously tried Virtuous because I always wanted a Sense phone but realized Sense actually sucks, well the messaging, gallery and dialer at least.
I use my phone heavily for A2DP bluetooth streaming and apperantly cyanogenmod is pretty much the best rom for bluetooth audio quality, also the added equalizer feature is awesome. Its just like the stock rom whish I loved since my nexus days but with just the right amount of customization.
MIUI looks annoying as hell, why not just buy an iDevice if your into that UI?

When you install an app, sometimes it comes with an odex file (i believe it's an extension of some sort to the app) When you are de-odex'd, it merges the extension (dot odex file) with the apk. The only reason I wanted this rom was to use themes for stock roms. I also found that it boots the phone up a hell of a lot faster.
Highly recommended for people who want the stock feel but like small mods here and there.

That's not a rom...
that's a kernel........... *facepalm*
I run Virtuous for a few reasons:
1. camera - the stock Android camera app is abysmal. Few options and not easy to use in the least.
2. music player - genre support is a big one for me
3. Sense - I use LauncherPro, but I prefer the sense contacts and other features.
4. I installed the 3D gallery from stock, so I have access to both. One other small benefit of the otherwise useless Sense gallery is a scrollable 'share' pop-up. On stock ROMs (or CM), if you have too many options in this menu, you can't scroll so you can't access them. Sense lets you scroll the 'share' list.

Not everything about miui is iphonish... and even the parts that are you have options.. the menus? I turn those to the standard grid. the icons? Not all are uniformed "squares" all thou the theme is use they are. But I actually am I fan of uniformed icons. I think it looks cleaner.. imho. What about miui looks annoying?? I admit the original launcher is lame. But I don't use it.. I think docks and notification bars are lame. I don't use either and rock adw.. swipe down for notifications and up for apps. plus you can't tell me miui lock screen isn't sexy..

[Q] Help with launcher lag

Im currently using XboarderMOD AOSP Gingerbread v3.0.1 and there is a considerable amount of lag when scrolling back and forth through homescreens with the stock launcher. Ive found that this completely goes away once i open and close the app drawer, but the lag will come back once i open any app and go back to home. This is a problem ive had with many roms, the only one that doesnt do it is virtuous g-lite. Anyone else have this problem or know whats causing it and how to fix it?
I havent used this ROM, but I similarly experienced when used Virtuos Unity 1.31 this is maybe due to Sense 3.5. Maybe it is because the RAM is not enough. Remember DZ Ram is only 512 MB.
Now, I am back with the stock ROM and it runs smooth ....( but I m planning to flash VIrtuos Fusion 2.0)...

really? I have Flyer, it has 1 GB RAM and Sense UI is running so smooth
In DZ, I even overclocked it to 1.5 GHz (the same clock speed as Flyer) but still lagging
And, last night I flash Virtuos Sense 2.00. It runs so smooth... try it

i prefer the stock launcher, adw, launcher pro, go launcher etc. are all choppy when i use live wallpapers, which is my reason for liking the stock launcher.

I think its a hardware acceleration problem (as in, there's no HW accel). The stock launcher won't be as smooth as aftermarket launchers that use different resources to increase smoothness.

Good stable 2.3 rom

Im looking for a good, stable rom to use with either a2sd or a2sd+ inatalled, i got a 400mb ext3 partition and i am currently using MIUI.
Thank you.

I know but i really feel like a change for a ifferent rom with different features as i have been using MIUI for quite some time now so i really feel like using something different.

Try Redux 2
You could try Tamirda's Revolution rom (sense 2.1+3.0) fast and very stable. Or maybe you want some AOSP lovin you could try MildWild oxygen based ICS themed rom. Both are awesome
The most stable, fastest 2.3 rom i've use on MY desire is GingerVillian 3.3. I know its abit old now, but I've tried the latest CM7 nightly build (262 - no more have been made in a while) both with and without custom kernels, with n without a2sd / data2sd (tried a2sdx but caused FCs from what i could tell) I have also tried ALL the sense ROMs and they just do not compare, MIUI is ALMOST as fast but not quite....
The fastest/best setup imho is as follows:
-CM7r2 hboot
-GV 3.3 (maybe remove a few apps from system as they r out of date - like youtube)
-do not use dalvik to sd, slows it down... imho
-class 6(+) sdcard with 512(mine is actually 1024) sdext (ext4) using ext4 recovery
-use villian setup to install 3.1 wifi pm_fast module
I have tried many different ways of setting up my phone with several ext partitions, or just one large one... and after a week or two of useage, im ALWAYS finding that its just NOT as fast as GV. however the sense 3.5 roms are most defiantly more beautiful! but just NOT AS FAST. I have 350+ app elements according to titianium backup pro. and it STILL doesnt slow down. I mean it boots in less than 30secs everytime!
I do personally use Go launcher EX (system perm n removed other launcher) and the Go widgets and GoSMS Pro (mms.apk still in system), however, if you have ALL the effects on go launcher enabled, you can see the difference, i suggest just picking one you like, and sticking with it, just dont use random.... however at the end of the day, the use of the Go for Android apps, does effect performance SLIGHTLY, however between that and the tmobile theme engine, I can make my phone look how i want, and still have it faster than any other rom ive tried...
thats it! its PERFECT!

Nice answer. I'm with you 100% but I do like Sense for the Facebook integration (can upload pictures so easily as thumbnails instead of links). I'm currently trying to find the fastest Sense Rom to use with Go Launcher, which will leave me with the most amount of free ram possible...

I agree the Facebook / Twitter intergration is awesome in Sense, if i could get the Sense contacts n dialler on aosp, I'd deffo do that! but I got round this problem by exporting my FB m8s via a CSV card and then imported into google contacts... Then using syncmypix I have everyone setup correctly. Effort I know but it works! If you do this, the FB app syncs / links nicely.
I have never suggested using an alternative launcher on sense (with the exception of if you dont have root and i dont think the user is smart enough to root it safely) as while it does give more free RAM, you miss the best parts of sense; THE WIDGETS!
The Sense framework will ALWAYS be running in the background taking up some RAM, so you might as well use it... imho anyways...
I really like the runnymede AIO V4.0 Special edition! If you want something smooth and different, try that one

Fastest rom without launcher (aosp)

Hi guys. basicly my favourite roms are miui and ilwt350 but I would like to make them even faster by using aosp. Is there a way to do this? Or roms that are aosp are bad and i really need launcher?
I am leaning towards ilwt350 but it comes with adw launcher/go launcher and I am not really into one or another, so It wouldnt hurt to try it aosp if there is a way

ok, i don't know if AOSP ROMs can run without a launcher... but try this: in ILWT, theres an ILWT.txt file, you can edit that file to make the flashing not install any launcher... (launcher=none)... try it, but i don't think it'll work though

it don't work. Rom doesnt start then
That's only there in case you want to install a custom launcher using the function to install custom apps. You're saying you want to install the AOSP launcher?
If so, courtesy of martonikaj:

Make sure to hit the thanks button in his post if it helped you.
I don't think the OP understands what the Launcher does in Android? Or what AOSP means?
Not to rag on you, but just want to clear these things up before we go any further.
The long answer:
AOSP: Short for "Android Open Source Project"; it's like the complete vanilla version of what Android was designed to be. Minus all the skins (Sense, Blurr, Touchwiz, etc...) and carrier bloat, it is the essence of what the AndroidOS is.
Launcher: The GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Android, the stock (AOSP) version of Android has this to access the various parts of the OS (Phone, App Drawer, Contacts, Apps, etc...). There are various other kinds of launchers out there with different features (ADW Launcher, LauncherPRO, GOLauncherEX, etc..) and carrier themed versions (Sense, Blurr, Touchwiz, etc...).
The short answer:
The lightest weight launcher that you could possibly use is the stock AOSP launcher. Android cannot function (graphically) without a launcher (to my knowledge).
ok thanks. I think I needed an explanation of some kind even tho i thought I know what it is
I am asking for pure android launcher. There is always, sense, touchwiz, launcherpro or adw.
Or shouldnt I even bother? I am kinda used to sense but can't find any "perfect" version. best sense for Z is 2,1 but virtuous sense 2.0.0 have this major problem and don't keep apps in memory after I go to home screen. Listening to music, pause, check messages, go back and pause is reset to start of the song (or 3hour podcast and then I have to search where Ive finished listening)
games are constantly restarting every minute like plants vs zombies.
I guess that You will advise me to use launcher. What is fastest with ilwt then? stock adw?
also another question. hd videos are working great on sense 3,5 roms while I have to oc to hell on every other rom and they stil jitter. Why is that? Other than default player doesnt help.
Thanks for help
I'm using the paid version of ADW, which is ADW EX. It's totally worth the money and it is A LOT SMOOTHER than the free counterpart. If you can spare a tiny amount of money it's definitely worth buying!
By HD you mean videos that are at about 1280x720, right? If so have you tried MX Video Player? If not then download it from the market (it's free).
Works very smooth at 1,1GHz, try this video as a preview http://www.tools4movies.com/Droid/nfs_hp_2010.mp4
Yeah. I am talkinga about .mp4 720p video, like trailers or movies.
I have 3 movies as my preview and those work just like every other move, no stuttering or whatsoever on sense 3,5 but on any other system, they fail. on cm350 ilwt, Gallery doesnt see tham and MX video player play them only software. HW is not even avaible
Try downloading the MX Player NEON codec. It's in the market.

I had the same problem as you. I am currently running G2Slim. It's the fastest and smoothest/fastest 'vanilla like' rom you can find and it has SUPERB battery life! I mean you get like 200+ free ram after booting The only price you pay is that it's ugly and it misses some of the great sense things like the dialer application.
If you just cant say farewell to sense, in this post I've listed some ROM's that have sense elements but not the Sense launcher (ROSIE). So basically they are senseless ROM's that still have sense (like the dialer etc).
P.S. The smallest launcher, to my knowledge, is ZEAM Launcher. You can grab it from the market or you can find the original post by the author here
I've been on several different launchers for GB now:
Stock
ADW
LauncherPRO
GOLauncherEX
Sense
MIUI (I know this is a ROM itself, but talking more about the UI)
Of the launchers, for AOSP ROMs, I would ALWAYS ditch the stock launcher (whether it be Stock, ADW or LauncherPRO) for GOLauncherEX. It comes with the majority of the conveniences of Sense without the RAM hogging bloat. For me, it seems to be the best balance of functionality and speed. There were features that were missing in the other launchers (Resizing any widget, full screen calendar widgets, etc...) that I really couldn't live without.
I would suggest trying them out if you have the time. Spend about 5-7 days with each launcher and figure out which suits your needs the best. My setup was always Virtuous G-Lite with GOLauncherEX and it worked out perfectly for me. Insane battery life (talking 3 days on a single charge with moderate use with the stock battery) and great speed (no lockups or lag).
Good luck!
Thanks for reply guys. I am still checking thing out. I want to do some good couple of days testing witch each rom.
Right now i am ditching cm7 ilwt350. Its kinda glitchy. Especially screen not rotating or only half of screen rotating etc.
