Cannot get Retroarch and Xbox360 controller to work - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried many build of Retroarch and could not get the XBOX360 controller to work. I have read many posts people got this to work but I cannot replicate this.
The controler works ok outside in the menu and allow me to select the game. Once the game starts, I could only use Start button which brings up the RGUI and Back button which goes back to the Retroarch menu.
Anyone can give me any tips?
Also I am using the XBOX wireless dongle. If I leave this plug in, the Amazon Fire TV will start in Safe Mode. No idea

In the Retroarch input settings, if you disable auto detect you can scroll way down and enter custom mappings into controller 1. The left joystick was detected as dpad but only the dpad works for me in game.

I'm just going to copy and paste the post I just made and what I did to fix it.
I have tired the controller with Sev Zero and Deus Ex. I have also tried an Xbox 360 controller. They work in the Fire TV menu, but not in any of the games. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? The only thing I can think of is that somehow the buttons got mapped funky when I mapped them for XBMC using FireTV Side App Installer.
I figured it out. For some reason the Xbox 360 Dongle was causing the problem. I still had it plugged into the USB port. Once I removed that and restarted, everything seemed to work with the fire TV game controller.

OTG + xbox 360 controller - How can I make the D-Pad work?

I connected my OTG cable to the xbox 360 controller and plug the other end of the OTG cable to my Nexus 7. Most buttons like the left stick, buttons work, however I can't get the D-Pad work.

I too have been wondering this as I love using my xbox controller on my nexus 7 but emulation leaves a bit to be desired if I can't use the d-pad to play old console games...
Depending on what game you play you go to controller in settings where you will see a list of actions. You tap on an action like for instance to fire a wepon then you tap the button on your controller to program it to fire when you hit it. Most first person shooters have that option. Sixaxis with a ps3 controller is what I do. Gameloft games work well with sixaxis but madfinger can be a little tricky to set up.
Keymapper
Use Tincore Keymapper to remap every button you wanted on any game or application you like. Works like charm for me.

[Q] ps4 controller to amazon fire tv

Is it really possible to connect ps4 controller to amazon fire tv..I've seen video on YouTube someone did that by pressing share and home bottoms same time then its worked..i tried that along with everything and it always failed to connect..it's keep saying my controller is not in range while I'm only 4 to 5 feet away..can someone help on how to please
would be appropriate
Theres supposedly differnt revisions of the DS4 that behave slightly differnt then others ... its been said launch controllers wont connect .. what revision that is
The controller I have is practically useless the input lag increases the more i use it *distance doesnt matter* and it will get unusable very quick with over a minute lag.
I suggest getting a differnt controller.
.
Thanks for reply
I use my PS4 controller with my Amazon Fire TV all the time,it's the best controller for Amazon Fire TV IMO.never had any issues.
Pairing it very easy, but can be a little confusing as it's a 2 step task.
First you need to go to controller pairing setting on AFT and search for new controller, meanwhile you must turn of the PS4 controller and hold share and power button at the same time, you will notice the PS4 controller will start flashing.
here is the tricky part,on your TV you will see a unknown controller (or something similar) becomes available, now you must click on that and press Share+power again on the PS4.
After that it will be paired and you will get a message confirming that.
Alsomake sure you unplug the PS4 console itself if you have one, because otherwise the controller will turn the PS4 on and conflics with pairing process with AFT.
I use a seperate PS4 controller with AFT.

using a game controller for mouse functionality...

I am currently using the Sixaxis app with sony ps3 dualshock controller to control my fire tv - it works great - has support for home button, mouse mode and can be customized very well.
My only problem is that, the controller will not charge no matter what - from the fire tv directly, or when connected to pc, or from a wall charger.
The only way to charge it is to reset it (via the small pinhole in the back), or connect it to ps3 - this will make it lose the pairing with the fire tv and it will start charging again. I will have to set the bluetooth address again via the SixaxisPairTool from PC to get it to pair with the fire tv again.
My first question is - does the charging work for you after you have used the SixaxisPairTool from PC?
I also have a gamestop red samurai v2 controller. This pairs and works with the fire tv without any special app. However, misses mouse control.
I went through the threads here and understand that by creating a custom keyboard.kl file we can get the behavior we want for that controller. Can that idea be used to control mouse behavior as well? Any pointers would be welcome.
Thanks.

hah, so you're here as well... I also have/had ps3 controller paired with sixaxis, but I haven't used it for a while and ATM does need to be charged with actual PS3.
So, to answer your question PS3 controller did work(charged via phone charger and xbox one usb) for me after it was paired with sixaxis for long time until eventually I stopped using it and then ran out of juice. Now it needs PS3 to charge again (maybe once), before I can reuse wall charger. Problem is, I don't have PS3 on me.
yep. the ps3 controller with sixaxis app works so beautifully with both regular apps and side loaded apps (that require mouse), it is a shame that it cannot be charged.
i have it setup such that the right analog is mouse (always in mouse mode), left analog is rew/ff/prev/next, d-pad is d-pad, L1 and R1 are left and right mouse, etc.
the problem is the sixaxis tool works only with sony ps3 controller. is there any other app like this that will do the same with any controller? thanks.

well there are xbox 360 and xbox one controllers "how to" here, but I haven't tried them since both somewhat requires usb cable or dongle because they are not bluetooth based. and just repeating myself here, but ps3 controller does charge using other options and NOT ps3 only. BUT if it dies, then PS3 is required to recharge because you'll have to reset it.
ok. i am not sure why the charging does not work for me though. it won't even charge from PC once the SixAxisPairTool changes the mac address.
i saw the tincore app and i am planning to try it today with my gamestop controller.
How did you configure the sixaxis controller app? Whenever I try to connect the controller it never finds it even if i have the correct bluetooth address paired.
SUCCESS with tincore app. configuration is a bit difficult due to access via the fire tv remote and due to some menu items not showing up fully. however, once configured, the gamestop red samurai v2 remote works flawlessly - for necessary buttons as well as mouse.
i cannot get it to auto apply on restart and will investigate that later. for now, i am happy . thanks.

not sure what you are missing, but you can try this:
1. start the sixaxis server in fire tv and get the bluetooth address from bottom left
2. use the SixaxisPairTool in PC to set that address on the controller (for good measure you can reset the controller first by the pinhole in the back)
3. now pressing the glass PS button on controller should pair it

Fire Stick issue with Ouya Controller

Hi all,
I'm trying to setup RetroArch on my Fire TV Stick with an Ouya controller, and have the controller keymap working properly. Now I am running into an issue that the left trigger is always mapped to Home on the Fire Stick, and am unable to get around it. This is problematic as I can't map the trigger to anything else, and inadvertantly pressing the trigger while in RetroArch causes the game to pause and the Ouya controller is no longer recognized after resuming.
I can see the keylayout file in /system/usr/keylayout for the Ouya controller, but can't comment out the line mapping the left trigger to home. (Not rooted).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Why not root?

Wrong buttons for paired game controllers on Fire TV Cube 2nd gen

Hi,
I just got a Fire TV Cube 2nd generation and I was trying to pair it with a game controller to use Steam Link, Shadow and Geforce Now. I've been able to pair both a Xbox One and a PS4 controllers via bluetooth but both end up having the same problem; the home button doesn't work as expected and the start button doesn't work at all.
With the Xbox One controller the home button takes you back to the Fire TV launcher while the start button doesn't do anything. The select button seem to do what the home button should do as by pressing it the Steam overlay pops up but it takes it quite many seconds to realise I have pressed it.
So apparently Amazon has dropped support for game controllers, even theirs, but I don't get how the option is still available, controllers can be paired but then there is no way to configure them to fix these issues.
Does anyone know if there is any way to fix this problem?
Thanks.
