Very slow charging... - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else experiencing this problem or is it just how long it takes to charge this tab?
Plugged into the charger for an hour with the tablet off and it's only charged 15%. So it's going to take 6 and a half hours to fully charge?
Also the battery seems to die pretty quickly from just normal Web browsing. From 40 to 15% in an hr.
Battery life / charging / Simpsons tapped out lags / lots of stuttering with TouchWiz...
I want to be happy with this tab but it hasn't been easy

My battery life improves after a few charging cycles. I found Samsung charger is slow but not too bad. Mine charges about 30% an hour with tablet powered on but not in use. It goes a lot faster when using Nook HD charger, though both have 2.0A output.

My Note 3 charges so much faster that it's not even funny. And considering it's 10000 mAh...

Yep charges super slow. No idea why. Also drains super fast surfing web. People talk about getting 8 hours on this. Im lucky to get 4 but then again i like brightness high.
Use a launcher to improve Touchwiz stutter (funny that some folks complain about this stutter thing - on 10.5 have never experienced it even without a launcher).

Try to power down for a few minutes and then see if there was a difference after you powered on.
You can also check the task manager to see what is running on your system.

I always kill apps when I'm done with them. Guess I'll give rooting and removing all the Samsung apps a shot.

I got some decent battery life out of mine when I had it about 6-8 hours mixed use. Def noticed a big drop when surfing the web using white backgrounds. Charging also was painfully slow on mine I think around 3-4 hours from 0 to full charge for me when not in use.

It's been a staple of their latest tablets unfortunately. Just make sure you're using the stock cable/adapter as some of the aftermarkets don't have enough power. For example, I have a 10 foot cable but it only puts out one third the power then the included power cable using the same adapter.
Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk

Try using Galaxy Charging Current lite it helped me. I was using a Anker intelligent charger and it took forever to charge it. App showed current at 350-450mA. Used Samsungs and it showed 1800mA.

I have to agree, just received the tablet today albeit stressed out to the max because the fedex guy marked it as delivered when it wasn't to squeeze out extra minutes for a break (seriously?!?) I thought it got ripped off! So, back to the battery, I turned on the tab, beautiful this thing is by the way...and was at 62% out of the box. I began charging it using the included power cable and adapter, and 3 hours later I realized just how long this was taking to charge. Granted I was using it practically the whole time, I am hoping a higher amp charger will fix this for me.

Yup it took me 5.5 hours to charge fully. I'd be lucky if i get 5 hours of usage before the juice runs out.

8.4 inch charges fines here. 2.5 hours max, powered on or off.

Charge time isn’t particularly fast on any of the devices, but the 10.5-inch model in particular takes a while to make it to a full charge. The 10.5 will reach a 90% charge in just under 4 hours, but to make it to 97% takes another hour and the last 3% takes another 42 minutes on top of that. Usable charge time is competitive, but if you’re obsessive about always charging to 100% the 10.5-inch model does take a while to get there.

Mine seems to charge quicker than what is stated on that chart. Will have to time it from 0% next time.

The charger that comes with the tab s is the same all new galaxy devices are shipping with. They do 5.3volts instead of just 5 volts. You will get a little quicker charge with the stock charger.

I get a legit 6-8 hours SOT mixed use

Slow charging NO charging
I hope this is okay to post here since it is a charging problem. I am on my third SM t-800. Mine stop charging all together! First one charged one time then stopped. Second on would not charge at all, It used up its factory 45% that it shipped with and nothing more. Third one was best by far and charged untill this moring and has stopped. Now, here are the details. I checked the cord by pluging into my note 3 on all of them. Infact my wifes Note 2. They charge fine. I don't have my ameter to check ampers but they clearly are delivering volts to the other devices. Now get this. I have a Bose external speaker that uses a mini usb. I plugged that one into the tablet and it is charging right now. Of note I had a concern that maybe some how the socket was bumped on the tab and somehow messed it up. But that is a long shot since the first two were used while only on a desk. So this third one has been supper "babied". I'm so frustrated right now.
BTW my first tab charged very slowly. 6-7 hours or so. Maybe more? I feel at this point the pins in the tab are not making contact. Any thoughts?

Just got of the horn w/ Samsung. Got issue taken care of. In short, the phone tech mentioned ampreage and I yanked the AC transformer off the wall and checked it. The factory transformer is 5.3v. 2.00ampers. In the dark last night i plugged into a "white" charger. An ipad charger I think, that is 5.2v. 2.4amp transformer. I switched the cord to the corect transformer and the tab is charging. Apparenty the chip in the tab was protecting the unit from over ampreage and it shut down charging. I know better than this and feel like a fool but thought I should let you all know what happened. This brings up a issue. Slow charging.... could the slowness be caused by a transformer with say 1.5 amps? Maybe the tab will let it charge but at a slow rate? Just a thought. Moral of the story for me? Plug in the tab in a lighted area, and into the correct charger.

Charging is a little slow, but the battery is large, so i accept that, but when it's charged 100% it lasts for ages. Faster charging shortens the life of the battery anyway. I could easily get 7- 8 hours constant surfing out of this tab. I've been on it now for over 2hrs surfing and it's used 13% . I always use auto brightness.

I get 6-8 hrs of mixed use, YouTube, surfing the Web and some movies with a little gaming. It takes me around 4 hrs to fully charge. Battery life is average. I'm using a 10.5 LTE.

Technically this is not true at all. It is heat that hurts batteries. You can charge as fast as you want as long as you keep it cold. That being said, Lithium Ion batteries will take a much faster charge rate and not cause heat. You could easily charge this battery in 2 hours, but the common chargers aren't that powerful.

Long charging duration. What should I do? Confused! Please advice.

Guys this issue is annoying me. My device is having some charging problems. I have measured the charging time for last two charges, and its taking 3 hours 40 mins for 10% to 100%, and 4 hours from 0% to 100%. Where most people are saying it takes around 3 hours, from a complete drain to full 100%.
So have any of you guys ever measured the actual time of charging? A lots of comments I see say around this or around that, or from 2 hours to 3 hours, well that's not what I need. If anyone has measured the time then please post here. I'm thinking about going to SC, but I don't wanna go there until I'm totally sure that there is a problem.
PS: I'm talking about Stock charger, (2A) plugged in AC power source. And device should be on, not off.
Btw- There should be a technical answer to this, the charging current is 2A and the battery is 3100 mAh, so how could I do the math?
Thanks in advance.

I don't know the math stuff but why don't you try calibrating the battery - worth trying !
Knowing that info is only half the truth. How the phone charges the battery and how much energy your phone uses during the charge matters too.

The time taken to charge is a pretty simple mathematical formula. But the rest of the calculation is complicated.
If you phone is on, how bright is the screen, is the display on or off, are you on wifi or network data, are you syncing email every 15 minutes or every hour, are you using the phone to send messages during charge, have you got gmail, dropbox, facebook, instagram, whatsapp, etc etc etc all doing a sync at regular intervals during the charge?
All of those things will use up some of the charge as its going in, so the charger is fighting against you.
I've been charging off usb at work and struggled to gain 20% in 8 hours because of my usage pattern.
Theoretical time for charge is about 1:30 hrs. Reality, start and ending charge should slow down (for safety), heat slow downs, plus usage of phone as spoken above I guess it could take up to 3 hrs.
It's not great to do a full charge regularly. I tend to keep mine between 40-90% for maximum life cycle of battery.
Perhaps try resetting battery stats? Try a different 2a charger?

Mine takes 2.5 hrs to charge from 10% to 100% with phone on using stock wall charger and cable (when charged continuosly with no activity on phone). It charged from 1% to 96% in 2.5 hrs with phone switched off (switched it on exactly after 2.5 hrs to check). But, usually i avoid charging my phones to full 100% (also always charge it when at 10%).

Try with another note 2 charger first. The thing with these chargers is they will behave erratically when there is voltage fluctuation or if you use in a train and other cases. So go to SC and tell them its taking almost double time for me to get charged. They will replace the charger as well the cable. My cousin has the same problem with s3. He got it replaced by the SC.

Thanks Chaitanya. But the SC guys are so stupid here. First thing they do always are to take the phone in their custody and deal with it badly. Still I will ask them to replace the charger and check.
Some of us have noted that if you let the screen time out and not manually shut screen off after connecting the charger. ..The charging is faster. . If you manually shut off the screen. .. The charging is slow.... It is weird but don't know why. .it definitely is happening

Op: I said theoretical it will take 1:30.. Realistically it should slow down during stages due to safety reasons.
Mine took probably 3 hours the other day I ran it down, but this was combination of using 1a and 2a charger.
I think on the note 2 it doesn't ramp up power till it gets to 20-30%. Took a while to get there from 2%. If only battery widget was working on the note 2..then I could confirm.

Are you using the charger that came with Note2 ? I was using my old blackberry charger and it took for ever to charge the phone.
The output of the Note2's charger is more than twice the output of my blackberry charger.
^ Yeah, of course I am using the stock charger that came with Note 2! I'd not create this topic if I had used another charger.
Anyway, after a long week in Service Center now my phone is back, they provided me a new charging adapter (not the cable) and I was very happy because I thought everything will be smooth and like before but guess what? No improvement. It's still taking long! I just measured it for 30 mins exactly, it went from 70 to 83%, i.e 13%, where it should be 24% as stated in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33585646&postcount=31
Now I am really angry. I will try with another Note 2 USB cable first, if that fails, there is something wrong with the device, I guess?

I really don't think it's your device or your battery for that matter. I have a question as well (sorry to hijack...). When you were charging it for 30 mins, were you using it? Was the screen off or the phone totally turned off? I noticed one night that I had an email notification and the phone did not charge because the notification LED was on all night while I slept and it was plugged into my 1A Samsung charger from my original Note. I have yet to check if the charging disconnects itself if the LED comes on. I don't even know if the phone charges at all if the screen is on either. Can anyone confirm? I guess I'll try it out tonight! The battery last forever I got to admit, perhaps most of the time I'm slow charging it at 1A max with the original Note's charger? I guess it does the battery some good
Thanks a bunch!
No pal I am not using the device while charging (because I am testing and measuring the times, that's why I restrain myself from touching it), and it's on, not off.
Anyway, yesterday I went to a friend's home and found he has a Samsung ACE and has same USB port like Note's and I was carrying the charging adapter, so I took that Ace's cable and plugged in to my Note's adapter and let it charge for an hour, and I was amazed and happy to see that it increased 38% in 60 mins. Well this tells me that the USB cable of my Note 2 is gone to heaven.
And oh, if you charge and use the device at the same time it will charge pretty fast even then too. I can confirm this when I first got the device, always was using it and charging, and I was surprised to even then how fast it was charging.
I (and many other users) have similar problems with Galaxy S3. I've made an app that shows the actual charging current: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076078
I'm not sure if it works on the Note 2, but it is worth a try.
Please check if your device is charging at the optimal charging current (I think it is 2000mA for the Note 2 charger, instead of 1000mA as pointed in the SGS3 thread).

[Q] M8+Nexus 7 charger ??

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone tried this on the M8.
I used a nexus 7 charger for the M8, I didn't check if the charge time was faster because I plug it before I sleep but the weird thing is that the
battery life is somehow significantly better and lasts longer.
On my old ONE X, if I used the nexus charger, it would charge the battery faster but it will also drain quickly. I read also that using a tablet
charge (2A) will damage a phone battery on the long run.
I dont know if this has to do with the snapdragon 801 or the quick charge technology? or am I just imagining
what are your thoughts?

Funny you mention this. Wether or not its relevant (Not trying to debate the fact), I like to "condition" my phone batteries when I first get them, full discharge - recharge while turned off for first 3-4 charges or so. But I did in fact use my Google Nexus 7 charger to do so, and on the 4th charge I got 6 days 8 hours before charging on light usage. Minimum 1 hour talk time per day via 2 30+ min calls, and 20+ texts a day. (Light facebook / game usage for the sake of seeing how long it will last) Not sure if it has anything to do with the way I charged, or the charger, but I'm pretty happy with it. Just on reg power saver, as you can see the Sprint version did not have Extreme power saver update yet.

WOW, 6 DAYS now thats great!!!
I think it because of the nexus 7 charger
Ok, some facts:
Qualcomm quick charge 2 will allow very quick charging (around 1 hour), but there are no chargers yet.
Conditioning your battery hasn't been required since we moved to Lithium ion, 15 years ago.
Using a charger capable of delivering more current won't make the battery draw more current, in fact, with HTC, it might draw less (the device checks the data pins are shorted to detect a mains charger). Thusly, it won't affect the longevity of your battery.
Using the nexus charger is highly unlikely to have increased the charge in your battery, or reduced the power consumption of your device. If it lasted longer, you used it less.

Slooooow charging?

This is the only electronic device I have ever owned that seems to charge slower than it discharges. I mean it takes FOREVER.
Is this a bug, a too weak charger or something else? I expected battery life to not be so great with this amazing screen but didn't expect the very slow charging. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
When I first opened mine it was at 60%. I charged it while setting it up & play with it. It took about 3 hours to 100%. So charging is still faster than discharging but of course it all depends on how you use it. One thing I did notice is that battery drains very little when it's in sleep mode, which is great.
Looks like Samsung charger is slow. I just tried using my wife's Nook HD+ charger which also has 2.0A output and it went from 65% to 100% in 1 hour 20 minutes. I have a 10.5.
My 8.4 took just over a couple of hours to charge from 0% last night. Tablet was switched off though. Haven't tried it powered on yet.

It seems to be improving a bit now that it has a few full cycles under its belt. Regardless the Samsung charger charges my Note 3 very quickly. Perhaps turning it off completely during recharge is the answer.
Big difference in chargers, been using my LG GPad charger and it's been good about 25% an hour, last night I put it on a cheaper charger in my bedroom, was at 15% and 8 hours later was at 80%. Definitely want to use 2 amp chargers

[Q] LG G4 Charging Very Slowly

Hi, I just got an LG G4 yesterday. Charging using stock charger, or any other charger I had no problems with S3 before, is really slow. As in obviously slow. The unit is estimating 3-4 hours to charge 30%-40% of battery. Once it took around 20-30 minutes to just charge 5% of battery.
Using Ampere app it is showing on average just 270mah charge. Sometimes it registers 1660mah, then it drops down significantly and settles with 270mah.
Using the dual sim model if that's any help.
Is this a new battery thing? Should I insist to have the unit (or the battery) replaced? Is this a hardware or a software issue? Even if i insist to have this replaced I want to be able to explain that this is a factory defect.
Same problem here..
Really annoying.

Same here, I think it charges at full speed when the screen is off...
I got myself a QC2.0 charger and its doing exactly the same.
It does appear to charge faster with it while the screen is off but I'm wondering if there is an update to the device that needs to be done to fully support QC2.0
i've buy an Aukey Turbo Charger Adapter.
Then my G4 has fast charging more about 75%
I've seen the same thing happen on mine. Highest current I've seen was 1650 mah. And that's with the screen off. Leaving the screen on it reduces to 270 mah

I had the same problem but it stopped after about week. Now it charges quite quickly and that's not with the fastcharge that isn't too impressive.
Same issue. Charging went from 2% to 46% in about 3.5 hours and it says it's still another 4 hours before it completes charging. Totally annoying.
i using the Aukey Turbo Charger and get around 1%-1.5% every min i have done 30%-70% in like 40min
I have a HTC quick charger that I used with my M8. It works well with the G4. With the screen off I have had nearly 2 A charging. It is much less when the screen is on.
Just got my G4 and it's doing the same thing.

my post was made during 2nd ever charging. i did turn on screen occasionally, but not like it was on all the time.
last night charge was shorter - around 5.5 hours.
This is really annoying trying to stream music and navigation sometimes losses a charge. With nexus 5 I usually gained 30 plus percent on my way to work on 40 ish minutes with car charger.
It "might" be a software limitation, to avoid pushing the battery too hard in its early cycles. Same as a brand new car, they usually tell you not to drive too fast for the motor to actually run with optimal parameters.
[2cents]
I am also experiencing the same. I am getting 640mA. It is really frustrating. Yesterday I connected the phone with the provided cable with G4 with my laptop. And i was using the phone, not heavy using. And actually the battery was draining, rather than charging. I got so frustrated. I found the phone actually charges better while staying idle & screen off, but not very promising.
Yep, add me to that list too. T-Mobile G4 with screen off and no use because I'm driving almost all day just to see a 5-10% more charge after driving almost 2 hours. The original charger behaves the same way too. The only fix I've found is to turn the phone off and charge it. It charges really fast that way only.

As I noted above it is an issue with cars too. I'm lucky to gain 5 to 10 percent with navigation and streaming music in 45 mins. The same situation with nexus was over 30%.
Does this behavior stay or is it only for the first charges? Is there anyone who has no slow charging with screen on? Is the g4 gaining at least some percent when navigating with gmaps?

A70 "Super fast charging" ! Really ?

Hi guys,
For those having the A70, does the "Super Fast Charging" feature work for you ?
With the original provided charger (with the "Super Fast Charging" logo on it), I need 3 hours to go from 9% to 100%.
So that is 1% every 2 minutes...
I do not consider this a "Super fast". I think it is "Decent" but would not go above that...
For me, this a severe disappointment... Unless of course I am doing something wrong
Anyone else can share his results for Super fast charging here ?
Regards.
Your phone must have an error. Mine lasts about 1:20 to charge from about 15% to 100%.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
The phone... or the charger maybe ?
Is there something to enable to have that "Super Fast Charging" ?
Or something to not disable ?
If I can solve battery drain (not really lasting as I expect) and this, I will think again about keeping the phone.
So far, it's more a non keeper
Regards.

Hello . Do you charge it with the screen closed? Only then fast charging works! IF yes then something is wrong with either the cable or the charger .You could also try a factory reset !

Hi,
Thanks for the info => Super Fast Charging only with display off ?
So if I leave "Always On" it will not work ?
Maybe that is why...
Anyways, I did as you suggested : I have done a full factory reset, and I have installed the bare minimum of Apps.
We will see about battery drain an battery charging.
I'll keep you posted.
Best regards.

Go to Device Care then Battery then the three dots on top right then Settings then make sure "Fast cable charging" is enabled

Hi Sufyan3D,
Thanks a lot for that info...
I've made sure that the fast charge is enabled.
So far, the device is still at 100% so I can't say if the problem is "solved", but I'll make sure to report if now it charges as it should
And also about battery drain...
Regards.
That's correct! OK check it now and tell us! No battery drain, this thing is a beast! Keep us posted!

Hi,
So far, I cannot tell about the Fast charge.
But the phone is almost idle (really gently used) with "Always on" enabled.
It's been idle since about 3hours and battery is at 98%.
I consider this a rather good result.
Hope it'll stay as it is once I install all my apps...
If not, I'll try to track the culprit for the high battery drain.
Regards.
I have same problem, after reading your post, I drained my battery to 9% and charge, it so slow while charging.

Hi guys,
Well I think it is confirmed that my phone has a problem.
The battery drain is more than acceptable.
I drove my kid to school yesterday. It is a 80 minute trip to go there and come back.
While I drove her, I used the A70 as a GPS whilst it was connected to car audio with Bluetooth.
Battery drain in 80 minutes was a little less than 10% which is quite good I think...
Then I played a bit with the phone and went to bed.
This morning it still had 84% battery.
So that is about 2% battery drain overnight.
Not stellar but acceptable.
So I decided to hook it up.
The battery panel reports "Fast charging plugged in".
But after 40 minutes, I am still at 98% charge.
That means 40 minutes to get 10% battery.
I am aware that the last 10% are the longest, but still... 40 minutes for 10% ?
I will test with another charger to see if it is the phone or the charger...
Regards.

Download a free app called "Ampere" from the Play Store, to measure your charging current. Plug the phone into the charger then open the App to get the measurements. Post your result here and compare with other A70 owners.
App shows that my charging current is around 1100mah (with the 25w charger)
I landed here as I was surprised how slow my A70 was to charge. It takes around 3 hours to get from 15% to full, using the included Samsung 3A charger & original cable. Ampere shows the current trickling in at around 850mA. Super Fast Charging is enabled. My previous phone was a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite which charged at around 2A according to Ampere.
PS I found this link which suggests most of the fast charging happens early in the cycle https://www.sammobile.com/2019/05/02/how-fast-is-samsung-25w-super-fast-charging
The Charger is rated at max 2.77 amps and 9 volts for fast charging. It will vary through the charging cycle though. Towards the end, above 80%, the charging will slow. How long does it take from 15% to 80% and what is the measurement in the middle of that?

Will need to measure that the next time I charge it as it's now at 100%! How long does yours take from 15 to 80%?

I've never tested it. I have fast charge turned off. I charge my phone over night. The battery lasts me all day every day.
Samsung A70 Failed!!
I think A70 is failed in all fields.
No porper GCam. And now batteries.
My device getting charged in around 4 hours with original cable and charger.
Now I think I invest 27k in wrong item. OnePlus 7 or realme 3 pro was far better than A70.
It's just name Samsung, nothing else. Blank box with tag of Samsung. Really disappointing with this.
Sorry to fans of Samsung devices. But I don't like this. After 2011 (Samsung Galaxy Y s5360), I think Samsung is better nowadays but I was wrong. I will never buy Samsung phone again.

I am not facing such issues in my device. Regarding development, for a device like a70, development is always slow. We have the source codes available. The only thing missing is developers onboarding to support the device. If at least 1 dev puts the kernel and device source codes and tree in github, I bet development will start soon after.

I took some readings with Ampere during a charge:
0 mins 8% battery 4050mA
30 mins 38% battery 1060mA
60 mins 52% battery 1050mA
90 mins 66% battery 1020mA
120 mins 81% battery 1080mA
150 mins 91% battery 1000mA
180 mins 100% battery
So 3h from nearly empty to full which is not exactly fast. Is this in line with what others get?
