Google Play does not play well with Fire - Amazon Fire Phone

Well, after getting the android SDK and Kindle Fire adb driver set up, the phone has the Play Store icon on the launcher.
Sadly of course, amazon locked it down and it crashes before it can sync with google.
I'm going to make it my weekend project to see if I can get it to run. Before I do, I assume the play store app needs to have root, correct?
I can't even read scripts on /
So that means no play store, nothing worth mentioning yet.

see if you can get a logcat, maybe you missed some other apks or just installed playstore as a data app (playstore needs system permissions)

I think you also have to install Google Play Services to make it work.

True, I'm only realizing that now that gplay runs a daemon, which is probably going to be blocked or somehow jailed from running on fire (even with root).
I've been messing around with towelroot but I think this whole thing about not being able to root it has to do with some kernel features.
I can't wait to be able to take this off my buddy's at&t plan, though. Unlimited data with tmobile
at&t can shove it for telling me I can't unlock it.

[SOLVED] Anyone get Prime Music working under 8.4.3?

Update: I figured out a solution -- see message #4 below
I'd really like to get Amazon's new Prime Music service working on my 8.9" Fire HD. However, I'm currently on 8.4.3, and I don't want to upgrade to 8.4.9 since some people have reported difficulty rooting it.
Has anyone done this? I suspect that if I could just get my hands on the new version of com.amazon.mp3 for the Fire HD, I could get it to work. However, the version at the Google Play store doesn't work with the Kindle Fire.
Before I spend hours trying to get this work, I wanted to ask if anyone has already traversed this rat hole.

I've also been wondering about this. Any luck getting it to work? Have you tried downloading the update from the Amazon website and taking the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk from there and putting it on the kindle? The update has a .bin extension but it's probably just a zip. I was able to open it in 7-zip and it looks an android update.zip file.

I did something similar: I got my hands on a Tate, updated it, and then pulled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk off of it. I uninstalled the existing system app on my Jem, verified that I couldn't go into music, and then installed the new APK.
Result: it doesn't provide Prime benefits, but does allow me to access the my non-Prime music. I don't know if that's because of some other necessary component, or because the new APK includes a check to see whether the Kindle has been rooted. I know that some of Amazon's Kindle software has incorporated such checks in the past.
I figured out a solution to get it working. I should have thought of it earlier.
I uninstalled the amazonmp3-unsigned.apk system app using ES File Explorer. I then used Google Play to install the new com.amazon.mp3 APK as a user app. Somehow I had gotten it stuck in my head that it would need to be a system app to work with the rest of the Kindle software. Duh.
It seems to work perfectly. I can access Prime music just fine, and it seamlessly connects to my Amazon account. The only downside is that the app from the Play store is designed for phones and locks the app into portrait mode, whereas the native Kindle version supports landscape. But, hey, that's a small price to pay.
Amazon is clearly checking to see if the tablet is still an unmodified Kindle Fire.
I tried loading Kindle Reader on a CM-upgraded KF, with no luck. Then, I used Build-Prop Editor to change the property 'name' to Asus, and the 'model' to Nexus 7. That's all it took for Kindle Reader (and my book account) to work properly.
Try that next time something 'Amazon' doesn't work as it should.
When you install using google play does that automatically install as a user app? I'm assuming so, but the fix isn't working for me. I am using 8.1.4 however.

Yes, the Play store will only install user apps. You uninstalled amazonmp3-unsigned.apk first?
Is the app not working at all, or not giving you access to Prime Music? I wonder if enough changed from 8.1.x to 8.4.x that the services for Amazon account authentication don't work.

Yeah, the first thing I did was just update the app using google play before I even read this thread. Weird thing is it opens and acts just like it should untampered. Landscape mode, automatically logged me in and all. But as soons as I try to access the library it shuts down. So I uninstalled back to stock amazon music using google play, uninstalled that system app using ES, and then installed fresh using google play. And it does the exact same thing. Landscape mode enabled, auto sign in. Acting like an amazon app.

I'd recommend that you uninstall again, and verify that the app is really uninstalled. I was able to get my tablet to a point where I had no MP3 player installed at all, and going to the Music tab from the Kindle launcher would result in an error. If you uninstall and still see this app, then there must still be a copy of the APK installed somewhere you're not seeing it.
I wish I could help with more details, but I no longer have the stock OS installed, and am now using Cyanogenmod. Prime Instant Video was the main reason I was keeping the stock OS, and now that's available for Android generally.
Yeah, after I uninstalled the app using ES but before installing a fresh copy, hitting music resulted in an error. ..and I didn't back up the original file. Lol. Not that I had any music there anyway. But yeah, I hear you on CM. I would be using that too, but it's my wife's main tablet and she likes the kindle lending library. Now if they put that on android, there would be essentially no reason to ever use the FireOs again.

[Q] No network access after Play Store sideload

Anyone else have any apps that can't access the network after sideloading the Play Store?
Specifically, I'm trying to get my banking app, Simple, to work. It's not in the Amazon store (I've contacted them about this.), and when I search the Play store, it doesn't show up. Googling for the link tells me that the app is incompatible, so next step is to sideload it, and it works, but says there's no network access when I try to log in.
Initially, I chalked it up to the app, but then Waze was crashing on me, so I reinstalled (from Amazon), and after I got it to load, it was complaining about no network as well. I got Waze to work after some fiddling, not really sure what I did.
Anyone else having these sorts of issues? I've turned off auto updates from the Play Store, and I've installed very little from there.
If anyone wouldn't mind sideloading the Simple bank app to see if you can log in, I'm curious. (You don't need a valid account, I get the "Check your network connection" error regardless of what I put for credentials.)
Thanks.

If Play says the app is not compatible it is probably because it requires Android 4.3 or better to run. Forcing the app onto Android 4.2.2 (FireOS) is just asking for trouble. Maybe look for an older version of the app or wait for the FireOS update that hopefully will be out in the next month or so.

[Q] New Fire Phone User Please Help

I just got my new unlocked Fire Phone about a week ago, and after a week of use, I love this phone but do have a couple of questions to help out my experience.
1)I find the need to use Google Play for a couple of apps... Tried downloading the google play store useing a video o a different post found, only to find that a "Google Play Services stooped" error rendered my phone useless. I uninstalled all the google apps and my phone worked fine, but still need gale play.. How can I fix this??
2) I currently have Fire OS 3.6.8 but read that there is a new Fire OS 4.6, but my phone wouldn't update it. What can I do to fix this??

I hate this phone right now because Google updated its play services to 7.8.3.
1. You probably installed Play services 4.4.x, but it then updated it automatically to 7.8.3. That has been breaking everything google on this pone.
2. check the general forum and you'll see them.
I can't wait until I get the LG G4.

Actually, update your phone first. I had the same issue with the google play store, so I completely removed it from the phone. After the most recent update to FireOS, everything works smashingly. Uninstall google play services, update your phone, then put everything google back. Bada bing, bada boom, all better.

Agreed. After updating to 4.x it's been great. Even the overlapping font on google maps is gone. I can change my keyboard easily.
But I'm still going to get the LG G4.

Everything was fine, now Playstore won't load

A few months back, I had side-loaded Google apps onto my stock device.
(I'm on 4.6.6.1 now - not sure if this upgrade happened recently...)
I am using it with a Project Fi data-only sim and letting the kid use it for Pokemon Go.
All of a sudden, PoGo won't start (GPS signal not found), and I can't load the Play Store (it just says at a blank white screen). Anyone else have something like this happen, and is there a simple fix?
Me too, today Nov 11 my google maps and play store dont work
same for me since 4 days....
I'm not on stock atm but in the past that exact thing would happen to my Google play if Google sent an update for it's services that somehow broke it on the firephone. Google has made about 3 updates this month so try reinstalling an older version or something and see if it works.
I don't need this when the whole world is falling apart.

All my fire phones were working fine with side loaded framework, google services, play store etc. as explained in the xda forum. They would automatically update and nothing broke except for a brief period a year or so ago which got fixed automatically after a few days. I know Google broke it with an update at that time, but not sure who fixed it -- Amazon or Google.
But now, the same things has happened. With Google Services update a couple of days ago things have come off their moorings.
Youtube, Maps, and the Play store itself are on the blink. Other things which require Play services also are gone, of course.
I am afraid, this time around, Amazon seems to have really given up on the fire phone. So the chances are quite bleak that they would take any trouble to fix this. eg. They don't even support Amazon Music Unlimited, and Audible on their own Fire Phone! Both are Amazon's own products!!
Check out this thread, last couple pages. Got me going again (for now, anyways).

Thanks. That got me going for 36 hours. Then it automatically started updating, and back to square one... Google Play Services has stopped working blah blah blah..
The deicsion to freeze and branch off from a version of Android was a very short-sighted selfish, customers-be-damned decision.
Amazon seems to be a really bad version of Apple without the technical wherewithal to sustain itself.
What a pity. The fire phone itself is a great one.
Is there any chance that a non-Google non-Amazon fix can work at all?

Since we're here, I'm assuming we have our phones rooted. That said, is there some way to just block the updater with a firewall or something similar?
The new google play services update broke all amazon google services in stock fire OS
We have to block the update process or wait for fix in next play services update
Anyone find a way to fix it

"Wrong!!"
Sorry, the would is still fresh..
No.. none of my phones is rooted. The beauty of this Xda-forum solution of side loading the four files (Account framework, Account Manager, play services, & play store) was that they don't have to be rooted.
Just update framework and Login Component to Version 4.4.4 and delete the data from store and Services and everything should be fine.

Updating all manually to the newest kitkat version does seem to do it (though, I only just did it). Didn't even check the versions as I assumed they auto-updated as well. Should last a bit longer now till that version is too old.
Good catch. Thanks.

Not sure if people are still following this thread but I thought to share. I was able to sideload Amazon music unlimited. It disables native music app but doesn't launch using the same app link. I need to use ES Explorer's App library function to select and launch. Otherwise it works well. Not sure if the audible app would work the same.

Netflix - device incompatible

I was messing around with xposed and Sony framework for ps4 remote play. I tried running Netflix and got an error, don't remember syntax. So deleted Netflix and tried to DL and now it won't show in play store . went to history to see it and says incompatible. So I did a dirty flash of same older ROM, same thing. So i did a full reset and installed lineage and same thing, incompatible. What am I missing?
Bad enough my nexus' rotation is broke, touch screen randomly doesn't take inputs, usb port broken, only charges and can't connect PC for files. Wireless charging randomly doesn't work and drains over night, etc. The one thing I had was some browsing and Netflix.
I had the same thing, the last update of Netflix it said it was incompatible and since then it doesn't show in the Play Store. Luckily I still have the previous version installed, but failing that you could try installing version 4.8.5 from https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862715472

****ers. This did it meanwhile I thought my **** was broken bad.
Now lineage looks OK but typing in browser has 2 second delay before showing on screen.
Incidentally having looked further into the Netflix problem, apparently this is deliberate on Netflix's part; they've just decided not to allow installation on unlocked/rooted devices. At least they haven't blocked it entirely, I suppose, but I see lots of people threatening to close their Netflix accounts over it - most of the recent Play Store reviews are 1 or 2 stars because of it.
Yeah people are getting their accounts locked and banned due to this. Such a silly move from Netflix, classic corporate decision and they think it'll help stop piracy with offline downloads then people using root to grab them and upload them. Seems the long way to do it haha. If anything this will drive people to piracy, however we who root are a big niche so I doubt they'll care.
Magisk will get around this but you gotta be careful as if stuff updates then SafetyNet breaks and you open Netflix you'll be screwed. Or use an old apk like someone mentioned further up. Though this may turn server side soon.
it's because ur rooted. the netflix company has started blocking ppl from installing netflix to a rooted device or a device with an unlocked bootloader. idk most of whts going on but i think it has something to do with androids version of widevine. u can still get the latest netflix by sideloading the app from downloading an apk from a trusted source like apk mirror. hope i helped!
